Google
Very cool bookstore, and very intriguing curation and assortment of books. Anywhere you wander, you'll find something that piques you're curiosity.

Google
One bursts with pride at the mention of Point Reyes Books, a world class bookstore in our little town. It represents all of the core values that draw us here, be it conservation, innovation, food, poetry and the imagination. This bookstore is central to our community. We hope to bestow the love and support it deserves as it nourishes each of us.

Charlie H.

Google
A wonderful selection of books, great music playing, and very kind staff. Definitely a recommended stop!

Nash H.

Google
This bookstore may seem small but it’s jam packed with a wonderful and diverse collection. The staff are helpful and friendly. Definitely check it out if you’re passing through Point Reyes Station

Rebecca F.

Google
such a cute store! fantastic selection of local books about the surrounding area, flora, fauna, and the ocean in general!

Wayne C.

Google
An amazing little bookstore, we always stop by when we're in town. You're going to find a wide variety of the best books out there. Not necessarily best sellers, but really good books that maybe you didn't know existed but have to read. The staff is always friendly and helpful, too. So overall it's one of the best small bookstores out there.

Judy R.

Google
When I stumbled on this shop, I didn’t dare go pass the first table at the front. It told me all I needed to know: that this shop may be small, but curated with wisdom, wonder and love. Point Reyes Books is simply one of the finest indie booksellers in the U.S.

Kyle S.

Google
Amazing bookstore! We always check out local bookstores when we travel and this one might be the best. It has a unique selection of books that perfectly encapsulate its location at beautiful, natural Point Reyes with also a large selections of translated books - all while having all your desired popular fiction, fantasy, and nonfiction. 10/10

Yelp
Lovely little bookstore with great selection! I loved the local book collections as well as the staff recommendations. I ended up buying a California Field Atlas by Obi Kaufmann as well as a book on drawing birds. Would definitely visit again if I'm in the area!

Yelp
Such a charming bookstore in this coastal town. Friendly staff and great book selections. I picked up a tote bag & a gift for a friend. Highly recommend stopping by!
google avatar

Alex P.

Yelp
Incredible selection with great suggestions abound. Perfect for everyone, from "I have all the books and want something totally new," to "I'm here for the weekend and want something to curl up with to watch the birds." Can't wait to come back.

John H.

Yelp
Had to walk out of the store because I couldn't tolerate the rudeness from the elderly woman behind the register. She criticized a gentleman for using improper grammar and then continued to mock the way he spoke as she was helping a different customer. I commend the guy she was rude to for keeping his cool. He clearly heard her comments, everyone in the store could as well.

Yelp
Point Reyes Station is an especially quaint and inviting town-- and those who have a discerning taste in books will find Point Reyes Books an especially excellent place to browse. They curate a wonderful selection of literature, poetry, spirituality, art, and non-fiction. I particularly appreciate their selection of nature and environmental titles. They also offer a nice selection of local authors as well as one of the best sections of books about indigenous peoples I have seen. If you are looking for the latest bestseller or pop culture or self help titles, you will very likely not find it here, but if you enjoy finding a treasure you did not previously know about, then this is the perfect store for you. Some of the other reviewers here at Yelp complained about less than helpful or polite staff. I will admit that I am never greeted cheerfully or made to feel like a valuable customer, but I am far too interested in browsing the wonderful books they have selected to ever find it problematic (and they often offer signed copies from their various author readings). They have also never been rude or dismissive. It is very obvious the selections have been chosen by sellers who know and love good books. I, for one, hope they continue to stay in business for many years to come. My personal thanks to all involved for offering such a rich opportunity for those of us who love to read and collect books.

Yelp
The place to be on Sunday. Super crowded but get there a little early to beat the crowd. Next door is a coffee and bakery. Grab something there first and then spend a lot of time in the bookstore. Staff is nice. So many books in this little hole in the wall. So hard to choose what to select.
google avatar

Michelle N.

Yelp
Good selection, but weirdly rude owner/staff. When I said no worries about them not having a book, she said "I'm not worried" in return?? I'd rather support other local bookstores.
google avatar

C C.

Yelp
It is great to have an independent bookshop to browse. There is a big children's section and a lot of local books too.

C P.

Yelp
WOW! This is the best bookstore I've been to in ages! The place is adorable and the selection of books is very unique!! The prices were reasonable (cheaper than Barnes and Noble) and it was just super fun to look around. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Estela G.

Yelp
This is a drive worth taking! I've been hiking in Point Reyes for a decade and only recently did I finally stop at this bookstore. I remember the first time, I spent at least half an hour looking at each bookshelf and honestly I wasn't ready to leave. The second time, I saw a book by the window as I entered and immediately asked to see what it was all about. The mark of a great bookstore is by the way the books are shelved. Thank you for taking the time to source a collection of amazing books and making them so easy to find!

Dennis W.

Yelp
Stopped by on a busy Saturday. Nicely curated book store with a wide selection of books. The service was less than I would hope for (does it hurt to say hello or thank you?) but it did not prevent me from buying two books.

Matthew R.

Yelp
This is one of the best bookstores I have ever been to (and I have been to bookstores around the world). Perfect balance of curation and selection. If they suggest a book, just get it, and come here to find tables of books that are hand selected for readers.

Yelp
This is a small bookstore in a nice little area of this town. I enjoy going to smaller bookstores to browse and get some reading recommendations. This bookstore seems to have a little bit of everything (used/new). They seem to prefer science and nature books based on location of these books and the reading recommendations prominently displayed. Nice bookstore that's worth a visit.

Carla T.

Yelp
This bookstore is quite a gem and definitely worth a stop if you're traveling through this area. It's a small but mighty bookstore featuring local as well as international writers. I loved the carefully written book recommendations and ended up buying three books that I can't wait to start reading!

Grateful A.

Yelp
Manager (or owner) opening on a Sunday morning was upset to open the door, and outright rude. Not sure if it was a bad day for her (hopefully it's just a one-off) but I cannot support a store, which treats customers so poorly. Oh well.
google avatar

Noe B.

Yelp
I just came across the talk by Barry Lopez at the bookstore in May 2019, following the release of his book "Horizon." It says much about the store and the Point Reyes community that they would invite Mister Lopez to hear him speak. As the camera panned the audience I saw people who I could identify easily with -- "my kind of people." It has been many years since I was in Point Reyes Station, but I know that the next time I am in San Francisco I will drive up Highway One to get back to the bookstore. It is a treasure that I will always support. For everyone with a solid sense of good things, it is a place that serves as a beacon of creative intelligence and genuinely American idealism.

Yelp
Was sightseeing in the area and stopped at the bakery next store, I also recommend the Bovine chocolate almond cherry cookies. I love local bookstores to experience the feel of a town. Point Reyes Books had a lady behind the counter with friendly connections and service. They carry current and used books. I purchased two new beautifully illustrated children's books. If in the area, it's a great spot to wonder the aisles and discover new reading material.
google avatar

Jon C.

Yelp
Do not drive out of your way for this place. But if you are passing by worth a quick stop. Stock is ok but could be better. Don't expect to discover a real 'find'
google avatar

Annabelle S.

Yelp
I think Point Reyes Books is one of the best little independent bookstores I've ever had the pleasure to know. It's impossible for me to walk through the door and not walk out empty handed, and that's not just because I have a book fetish. The selection is excellent, there are often local authors featured, and for the space they have it is remarkable how much breadth and depth they have. This time I walked out with Scott McCloud's "The Sculptor" and then spent a few happy hours tearing through that amazing new graphic novel while I sat at Stinson Beach. I was so happy to see copies of Michael Pollan's "An Eater's Manifesto" which I bought a few years ago at the Slow Food festival in SF and then promptly lost. I didn't remember that Point Reyes Books was at the festival and had no idea that they are the only place that sells it (there is also a book by that title, but I'm talking about the lovely, suitable-for-framing broadside that is produced by Point Reyes Books.)
google avatar

Yelp
When you walk into a bookstore and there's an entire shelf of books devoted to resisting the person who currently lives in the White House, you've come to the right place. And a place that is five stars. It has a very small community feel, there was a book discussion that day with a gardening author. They also have current selections. Point Reyes Station is a special small town. Point Reyes books is a special small bookstore. If you're done with a hike, done seeing the seagulls fly along Limantour Beach or done seeing the views from Sky camp, go here. Read about where you hiked, see the pictures and appreciate the small town feel. Point Reyes is magical, it's only fitting it has a magical bookstore to go with it.
google avatar

Yelp
I love wandering into independent book stores. Yes I have a Kindle and Gayle has an ipad2, but both of us still buy books that we can hold in our hand and really turn the page. I hope that lasts. I stop at Point Reyes Books whenever I'm in town, which isn't often enough. It's small, rickety, and packed with all sorts of new and old literary goodies. The folks inside (on both sides of the counter) know their books too. Just my kind of place! The only thing missing is a indoor spot to but the books, some coffee, and a Bovine Bakery treat together.
google avatar

Janet D.

Yelp
Well-a bookstore that is loaded with really interesting books. Old and new books stacked to match and pique your interest. I got stuck in the back portion of the bookstore looking at this one authors perverted mind travel. I don't remember the book but it was surely a trip turning the pages on this one. The wooden rickety floors matches the smell and stench of a pure old location. This bookstore has one or two chairs to sit while you read my dear readers. This is a true blue mom and pops operation. Do not expect wifi and coffee here either. Do check it out! You will smell what I mean :)
google avatar

Andie R.

Yelp
Fantastic small/independent bookstore with a fine selection of new books in various genres as well as a small section of used. My 13yo daughter and I happened to stumble on it on our way to meeting friends at a restaurant which made it all the more enjoyable because there is nothing we enjoy more than happening upon a bookstore by surprise. She found a used Agatha Christie novel and Moleskine notebooks. It was the frosting on an already wonderful day exploring the Lighthouse. Look forward to visiting again!
google avatar

Akina C.

Yelp
This bookstore is so good, it's ruined my other favorites. It is small, but has an amazing selection. I bought two books (The Red Parts by Maggie Nelson and Your Art Will Save Your Life by Beth Pickens), and I finished both in one weekend. I saw a few other books that looked interesting and I didn't buy them, and now I'm kicking myself. Boohoo. I want to take off a star because they are too far away from me, but that's not really fair.

Stuart R.

Yelp
Excellent selection, friendly staff. They carry many books on nature, environment, poetry, philosophy that aren't in most retail bookstores.
google avatar

Angela W.

Yelp
Bookstores have almost disappeared. Thanks to independent bookstores like Point Reyes Books, you can still relive those days of browsing through the shelves and flipping the pages. You will find topics on history, music, art, food, language and a Webster Dictionary. A great place to take the kids so they can browse the children's section.
google avatar

Jeff A.

Yelp
Surprisingly large and varied selection of books from local, regional, and national authors. I was looking specifically for a book about Bolinas ("The Town That Fought to Save Itself") and while they didn't have it in stock, the gentleman working the front desk was friendly and helpful. Not only is the selection quite large, but the do a great job at selecting and placing the books in interesting arrangements.
google avatar

Sam B.

Yelp
Took a picture of two books with my cell phone and the old lady and man that own the store went nuts yelling at me (never treat a customer inappropriately) about people buying books on Amazon. I've been a customer there for many years, but never mind that. Time for the couple to close it up or sell it and retire. I told my wife to put her book selection back, we're leaving. I figure they lost a sale of three books, and I will never set foot in there again. And as far as buying the books on Amazon, that is a great idea which I hadn't thought of. Good luck to the evil pair!

Yelp
Pt. Reyes Books is a fun little place in quirky downtown Pt. Reyes Station. They've got an assortment of magazines, old books, and new releases. It's one of those places where you can get a magazine, then sit down at Bovine Bakery or go across the street to Toby's to get a coffee. Pt. Reyes Station is a tiny town; remarkably, it was a boomtown in the era before the 1906 quake... and not much has changed. Philip K. Dick, who penned such futuristic philosophical novels that inspired movies like "Minority Report","Blade Runner","Through a Scanner Darkly" and "Total Recall" lived in rural Pt. Reyes Station, which hasn't changed much since he lived here. The bookstore has breathtaking views of Mt. Vision, and Mt. Wittenberg, mountains literally carried from the LA area to the Marin coast. One could understand why PKD was into virtual reality. Pt. Reyes Books is a fun, quirky place.
google avatar

Rinky N.

Yelp
Nothing new to add. This is STILL an excellent bookstore! Don't let the small size fool you. As I stated before all their books are gems. The book buyers have fantastic tastes. In addition to their books they have a small collection of cd's and audiobooks. This is a MUST stop (along with Bovine Bakery) when going toPoint Reyes!
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped in before dinner and did not feel welcome. The lady who worked there did not even look up when we walked in through the door. Our 2 year old was running around and touching everything - what can you do? There's only so much I can tell my little one but she gets excited about books and new things! The lady who worked there looked beyond annoyed(sorry, not sorry- she's a toddler!) She then yelled at us for letting our 2 year old drink inside of the store. I was about to buy a $30 book until she said that and wanted to leave right away. I'm confused why your store has a book section has children books if you don't welcome children? Okay...
google avatar

Gwynnie P.

Yelp
How great is it that Stinson Beach, Bolinas and Pt Reyes Station ALL have bookstores? Really great. This is a good one with a fine selection of new and used books, served up with a friendly reception. (and the New York Times)
google avatar

Lisa L.

Yelp
This tiny, one-room bookstore is adjacent to a no-frills, damned-good-coffee (no lattes!) bakery and coffeeshop -- and both offer a great deal on cheap, affordable, and high-quality goods that you can't find elsewhere ... like, oh, say, Missoula, Montana. The dude at the bookstore can be a bit snarky at times, but I just chock it up to the fact that print is going out of fashion, and indie bookstores are shutting down. Hey: even Barnes n' Noble declared bankruptcy some years ago, and they're practically the Walmart of books. Either way ... Point Reyes Books is solid. I got a comprehensive coffee table tome of Patrick Nagel's works, a literary anthology, and a creative writing instruction manual for less than $30 total. They do take ATM and credit cards. Just because they're out in the boondocks doesn't mean that they've never heard of electricity. And yes, they have the Internet.
google avatar

Lola R.

Yelp
I. Love. Books. But what I love more are little indie bookstores. And you know what I love EVEN MORE? Owners of little indie bookstores who give and give and give back to their community. Kate and Steve, the owners of the place, continually pour their grace into our little community. They have a fantastic selection of books (much to my dismay I ALWAYS find something...i have a problem....) and what they don't have they will get for me in a day or two. They buy used books as well though I don't know how fair their purchase prices are since I have trouble parting with my books. The employees are lovely and possess a deep knowledge of books in general and every time I've been looking for a good book and they recommend one, it's been FABULOUS. A super plus is that they are next to the Bovine Bakery so you can increase your joy with a book and your waistline with a pastry. Careful with the coffee next door - it's high octane. VROOM! Kate, one half of the the dynamic duo that owns the place just published a book...I got it today! YAY Kate! I super heart Point Reyes Books. pssst...eReaders are evil. support your local bookstore peeps!

Yelp
A fine lagniappe to a trip to the area. So what would you want in a bookstore that is (understandably) too small to carry everything? You'd want the owner to filter out the books you'd like the least. As the store's inventory got smaller, the odds would be getting better that any book you happened upon would be to your liking. What else would you want? You'd want it to have a lot of books, but you wouldn't want to feel crowded. You'd like the place to be organized, and to smell good. You'd like it to be pleasant. You'd like to come across books of genuine interest that you hadn't known of before. You'd like to get that genuine thrill of finding new reads that you know you're gonna love. You'd like to enjoy the surprise of finding such a delightful store in such a small town. That's what you just might get at Pt. Reyes Books.

Kira C.

Yelp
I love this bookstore. Whenever I'm in the Bay I take a day trip out to magical Marin and come to browse the shelves at Point Reyes Books, which has an incredible array of environmental books - from beautiful illustrated guides to novels to academic writing to poignant criticism. The store itself is lovely with space between the aisles to stop and flip through a chapter, make your purchase and then head over to Bovine Bakery for a coffee and pastry to read it with. A Marin gem.
google avatar

Erin V.

Yelp
This place is an absolute treasure. Rilus C probably said it the best- you can pull almost any book off the shelf, and make an excellent choice. The owners are wonderful and go beyond helpful- they truly care about their customers, and are interested in what people are reading, and why. Just one of those rare experiences where shopping feels like connection...and with great reads thrown in, who could possibly, possibly, want more? These guys are my heros.
google avatar

Jeannette C.

Yelp
Super adorable. Not a huge selection but it gets it done. Got a little souvenir for my nugget at home so that's cool.
google avatar

Mitch M.

Yelp
I would love to visit this place every day if I could. It's simply a well-curated, old-guard bookstore when an independent bookstore is too much of a rarity. I loved my visit so much that I would consider going back to Point Reyes for the sole purpose of coming here. Of course, I bought a book.
google avatar

Niko Z.

Yelp
This is one of those exceptional bookstores with such a well-curated selection, that you want to buy everything. A destination bookstore, for certain.
google avatar

Bethany C.

Yelp
The books are great, the staff is rude and grumpy. If you're looking for an excellent selection of books on the Point Reyes Peninsula, this is the place. If you want to connect with the local staff, forget it -- no welcome, no smiles, no help. The owner is pompous and about as friendly as a New York cab driver. Kind of a turnoff and def not a small town experience. But Bovine Bakery, next door, is wonderful and after you finish your coffee and croissant (don't you dare cross the bookstore threshold with food or drink), mosey in with a thick skin and the resourcefulness to help yourself.
google avatar

Jordan G.

Yelp
Adore this store! Well organized, warm and inviting shop! Selection was wonderful, definitely some unique finds. The woman behind the counter was so sweet also. I could have stayed here for hours!
google avatar

Liza W.

Yelp
I love finding small, local bookstores with an amazing selection of books. Point Reyes Books is one of those finds! I found an unusual memoir on their sale rack outside, and a cute book of bugs for my daughter. (She was delightfully surprised by her new book and has already used it to study bugs she found at the park!) I am one of those people who relish the pages of an actual book, so browsing the bookstore is a respite for me. This bookstore has a wide selection of books from bestsellers, to a decent selection of indigenous studies and - this is what I loved the most - their table of book selections that offered different ways of making it through the Trump Era, from political theory to cultural commentary. Fabulous, and a breath of fresh air. I love this bookstore and it will be a regular stop for me when I am in the area. I am a very happy browser indeed.
google avatar

Kevin F.

Yelp
I love the focus in W Marin here
google avatar

Meg C.

Yelp
Such a cute store, about 50:50 used to new books all in very good condition and a lot of really popular titles (Game of Thrones anyone?). Huge kid and young adult section that my children adored and plenty of seating with a welcoming atmosphere for reading. The people were incredibly friendly, chatted with my kids and when my super shy son was startled the nice gentleman gave him a book- which was greatly appreciated. They even chatted Star Wars with my kids. We were won over by this little store and left with more books than we probably should have but no regrets!
google avatar

Sarah C.

Yelp
Oh, how I love bookstores in small towns! Especially small towns that feel like the MN lake towns I grew up going to on summer vacations. Point Reyes Books has a really excellent selection of new and used titles, and have obscure local titles as well as best sellers. I didn't get anything, but was tempted, sooooo tempted. Stop here if you're driving through - it's totally worth it.
google avatar

Natalia B.

Yelp
This small bookstore in the heart of town has everything you need - from local guidebooks to the best literature, new and used, an intelligent selection of magazines, kids' books, local authors, and a very helpful staff. Don't let online shopping destroy such a treasure - stop in and find great selections here and know that you're supporting a local treasure. There are also some fabulous readings to go to, from Robert Hass to Anne LaMott, George Lakoff, Terry Tempest Williams...join their email list at http://www.ptreyesbooks.com
google avatar

Jenn D.

Yelp
I fell in love with this bookshop on a recent trip to Northern CA. They have a great variety of new and used books, and the staff is incredibly nice and helpful. If you're looking for a lazy-day beach companion, definitely check it out!
google avatar

Bridget W.

Yelp
PRB has a seriously decent selection of children's books and some cute little chairs near them for the little readers. I particularly was impressed that they had some good finds that I haven't seen elsewhere. I'll definitely go back to find other gems when I'm in town!
