Point Robinson Lighthouse

Google
Beautiful lighthouse that still offers tours on Sundays from 12:00 to 4:00. The bench is wonderful with so many intact shells, left there for the beach creatures of course. The lighthouse itself is in great shape and it's at an amazing spot. The trail is short but it has a little elevation gain. Great stop!

Google
This was a nice little hidden gem to explore. A small lighthouse as far as lighthouses go, but still fun to view. There is a small sandy beach with tons of driftwood and small rocks. A great view of Mt. Rainier, the Puget Sound and boats of all kinds going by. We took the walking path through the wooded area that was a small jaunt from the parking lot and picnic area. I am not sure how long the installation is there, but the troll wood sculpture was super fun to see.

Google
Its a beautiful lighthouse but only open Sundays. Totally worth the trip though. Beautiful beach, great view of Mt Rainier, and steps away from the PNW Bird King Troll. 1 of 7. Highly recommend the trip!! Also, try the SandPiper restaurant while on the island. Some of the best fish n chips as well as the garlic parm fries. 10 out of 10

Google
If making a day trip to Vashon for the first time, you'll want this park on your sightseeing list! Wonderful coastal views and a brisk wind are always on tap here. King Oscar the Troll draws a lot of visitors as well. Expect it to be busy on the weekends, especially in the summer! You can probably find a parking spot but expect to do some walking at these times. Enjoy! Olympic Otter

Google
I love visiting. We took the ferry across the water, drove out to the lighthouse and it was beautiful. The view is amazing, it's relaxing. The bathrooms were sufficed. The map and signage was easy to follow and lots to see. Traffic/parking got pretty busy later in the morning and afternoon but it's worth a drive.

Beth

Google
Beautiful area short walk to the beach and lighthouse. Lots of soft woods to climb or sit on and watch the boats ship by.

Google
Very cool park - if I lived closer I’d go here all the time. Great view of Mt Rainier from the beach and some lovely short trails to explore.

Catherine H.

Google
This is worth a visit when going to Vashon. We went on a weekday in April and it was our first time in Vashon Island. It is a short walk from the parking lot. We took the trail aling the trees and bushes. The view is picturesque with lots of driftwood and the beach.

Yelp
This was a nice park on Vashon Island. We were there for the Troll King and the lighthouse. There are nice trails at the park but we mainly only took the short one from the parking lot to the lighthouse with a stop at the Troll King for pictures. There are only porta potties on site.
google avatar

Smrithi S.

Yelp
This is a beautiful beach park, with the added attraction of the troll. We spent a good amount of time exploring the park and then on the beach by the water. A must visit while on Vashon Island.
google avatar

Mojdeh S.

Yelp
A beautiful beach park, with walking trails through forested areas and fields (where you can meet Oscar King of the Birds, Vashon Island's Dambo troll). The driftwood along the rocky beach is beautiful and offers wonderful spots for climbing, balancing, and relaxing, enjoying the views ahead. Many shelters have also been built and added to, giving space for seating - cool shade in the sun and heat, and weathered spaces to avoid smaller moments when the elements catch you on a walk. On this particular clear spring day, we were able to see Mount Rainier in all its glory.

Yelp
Cool place to visit with awesome views of Mt. Rainier. Today was my first time visiting Vashon and although it was super cold (12 degrees with the wind chill!), I decided to walk down to see the lighthouse and spectacular view of Mt. Rainier. This is a must see when visiting the island!
google avatar

Tharin W.

Yelp
This small park offers nice nature views and a small trail to walk through the woods. We visited during winter, but I can imagine this would be a prime location to visit during summer for a perfect picnic. Parking is FREE!
google avatar

Bijana K.

Yelp
Definitely a place to stop! We came to see the troll, but I wish we had known what a cool park this is and brought a picnic. There are benches to just sit and enjoy the water and mountain views. Everyone was super happy to be there and friendly. There is even a little gift shop with some cute items. I wish I lived closer so I could return easily.
google avatar

Mattea D.

Yelp
Visited today for a sunshine-filled, cold winter stroll with a toddler. Small park with Oscar the troll and the Point Robinson Lighthouse. We saw a couple bald eagles but didn't get lucky enough to see a whale. Easy to find and visit from Tacoma, rock throwing at the shore was a hit with the little one! Stayed about an hour and caught the ferry back home. There are lodgings that can be booked at the lighthouse! We'd love to try it sometime. Parking lot is smallish with some clean port o potties. Didn't have an issue with parking.
google avatar

Erika J.

Yelp
Lovely spot with lots of cool driftwood. Walking paths and so beautiful right next to the water. They even have the old houses where lighthouse keeps use to stay, for rent now!

Yelp
A day on Vashon Island is not complete without visiting the Point Robinson Park. You gotta come and savor the coastline view and explore the small forestry area while munching those berries you passed by. Lol. Had a great time here. Picturesque and cool view with less crowd this is indeed a great spot to stop by. Shoreline is not that safe as there are lots of logging that they dump so if you're with kids keep your eyes on them. The breeze is enough to make you chill so make sure you bring your jacket/sweater with you. This is also a place for wedding goers where you can rent to celebrate your wedding memory at Vashon. And what I personally love the most is the lighthouse standing there. I feast my eyes staring on it and did a lot of photowalk around it. T'was a personal fun thing to do! Parking is available for free just make sure that you leave the place on time to avoid locking up inside the vicinity. Mahalo for reading and happy juandering fellow yeeps!

Yelp
The beauty of Vashon ~ something unique, magical being on an island. The bay by the electric tower was calm & smooth as glass, the hypnotic lapping of the gentles waves, panoramic view of the Sound and Mount Rainier. Boggles my mind there was deer walking around. How did they get there? Come to the beach to breathe.
google avatar

Paris T.

Yelp
Point Robinson Park was definitely the best part of my visit to Vashon Island. The trails are well kept and the parking lot had plenty of spots. The lighthouse is really neat and overall this was a unique place to explore. Although there were quite a bit of people here when I visited it still felt very calm and peaceful. The shells on the beach are massive and so cool to look at. I highly recommend checking this spot out if you're ever in Vashon and pack food for a picnic on one of the many benches!

Yelp
We enjoyed visiting Point Robinson park during our time in Vashon. We did come on a cloudy day, so did not get the views as others have described. We tried looking for wildlife out in the water, but didn't have much luck. Nevertheless, we still had a great time exploring the shore and visiting the lighthouse. It was pretty quiet with not many others.
google avatar

Yelp
While visiting Vashon Island, we decided to come by here to enjoy the lovely weather and enjoy some of the great views. Parking lot is decent size, but it was pretty full when we pulled up, so I just did it old school and parked on the side of the road. 2 routes to get down to the water/lighthouse, a little trail or just follow the main road. It's a pretty easy walk or stroll around the park, great views for photos, a good amount of areas to sit, picnic, build your fort with drift wood, walk on the shoreline etc. We had a decent view of Mt Rainier that day too. Lighthouse isn't super huge, but still pretty cool to look at. It was closed but looking through the windows, it looks like a small museum and history spot. There's some guest houses you can rent out as well.... right click, save in my head for the future. Overall, we enjoyed our relaxing visit and would definitely come back again!

Yelp
Point Robinson is a park with a lighthouse and small gift shop on the edge of Vashon Island. It's free to park then hoof it down the hill to the park and beach area. The lighthouse is a statement unto itself. Tours are available by the resident Captain Joe Wubbold from May-September and can be arranged by calling him in other months at 206-463-6672. There's a gift shop on the first floor of the lighthouse, but it was closed when my BFF and I were out there so I haven't been inside. Their website states it's open Noon-5 on Saturdays and Sundays. There are picnic benches along the beach and in the grassy area of the park. The view is lovely of the water. I strongly suggest bringing a winter coat, hat and gloves if you come here September-May and a light jacket in the other months. The cold wind coming off the water can be really strong.
google avatar

Don M.

Yelp
If you are on Vashon. You need to go for the views. Lighthouse makes a good backdrop for photos. Mt Rainier, if visible, is a great sight. Sandy beaches. Lots of huge driftwood. Great spot for a picnic, walking on the sand, etc.
google avatar

Yelp
Pros: beautiful coast, scenic lighthouse, whale trail educational post. Cons: curvy unsafe roads to get here with too many drivers pushing you down the road in unsafe weather, several unleashed dogs running around even though this park has staff onsite. Pretty concerning hazards, but a nice local stop.
google avatar

Yelp
From car to ferry to car to a drive through Vashon to Maury Island is how you get here. This is a 10-acre shoreline park and a very short distance to walk around. We came by on a somewhat overcast and beautiful January day There is parking at the top and a couple ways to walk down to the bottom. We took the paved road down to the Keeper's Quarters and on to the Lighthouse. The area overlooks Mt. Rainier at a distance and is gorgeous! The lighthouse is open from May to September. The Keeper's Quarters are available for rental year round. The beach is covered in large driftwood and pebbles. I stuck my hand in the water and it was BRRR!! I don't think there is a time when the water isn't cold up here. We can easily see the Des Moines Marina at a distance. Hubby has been wanting us to paddle board across. Ha! There's a little Ship's Store Gift Shop but it was closed when we were there. It's only open seasonally. We enjoyed our time here -- walking around and enjoying the view. I do want to come back when the lighthouse is open and check it out.
google avatar

Yelp
Spent Mother's Day exploring Vashon Island. If you ever get the chance, definitely come check out this park. We happened on Kite day and my son had a blast flying a kite with the perfect amount of wind. There are trails to enjoy and the beach itself. Plus, the lighthouse is adorable.
google avatar

Inga C.

Yelp
A quintessential Vashon Island landmark, the lighthouse at Point Robinson is a good place to learn about the island's history and ecology. There are signs from the main road to direct you to Maury Island (really a peninsula) and to the park. The lighthouse is a short hike downhill. The building has not been open when we've visited, but we enjoy walking along the beach, climbing the piles of driftwood, and enjoying views of the sound and (if you're lucky) wildlife. There are historic buildings on site that are available for vacation rentals. The park has picnic tables and artworks.
google avatar

Bradley S.

Yelp
Great views. Too bad the light house is closed.lots of driftwood. Strange people in the area. There's a trail to the lighthouse, handicapped accessible on the bottom lot.
google avatar

Rachel H.

Yelp
Easy to access lighthouse on Vashon Island with views of the Sound and on a good day, the Olympics and Mt. Rainer. The lower parking lot is easy to access for kids and the elderly. Don't let the signs deter you if you have a family with special needs. There is there is plenty of parking available in the lower lot. The upper lot is a short but steep, easy hike down to the lighthouse, which our seven year old did without a problem (in summer, with good conditions.) There are a few hikes here in summertime, and a handful of geocash spots, for those with kids and a compass (or iPhone.) The beach is covered with driftwood, and while the picnic tables are further away from the beach, we saw that most local families come here with their own portable tables and set up right on the beach, during summertime weather, for lunch or dinner right on the beach, using the driftwood as benches for their table. The lighthouse is small, but totally reminded me of the lighthouses on the Eastern Seaboard, with whitewashed, original keepers cottages nearby. You can rent the two old "Keepers" homes from the State of Washington and relive your own, "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir." Our daughter spent an hour playing in the water and building driftwood structures while my husband and I laid in the sun on large logs. This is an almost perfect spot. (There is a portable potty nearby to the lighthouse, right by the driftwood beach, for those who want to picnic here longer, or make a day out of it.)

Yelp
It NEVER gets old visiting this panoramic beach! Today was just another reminder of why I LOVE living in the Pacific Northwest.
google avatar

Alden C.

Yelp
I've been here twice now and it is so tranquil and beautiful all year round! What is the main draw for me is going to the Point Robinson Lighthouse because that is kind of a thing I do...go seek out lighthouses in the state I live in. Coming here in late winter or early spring is peaceful. The weekends are a little less so but it is still quiet enough since it is still nippy outside. In the summer this place is a swinging! There is a small gift shop that is sometimes open and has all kinds of adorable gifts to be tempted by. Also on the grounds are guest houses so you can reserve ahead of time and stay in these houses while on your vacation-which are very cute by the way! Point Robinson Park is an adorable little place and is great for a picnic and a stroll!
google avatar

Cam G.

Yelp
Another fantastic area on Vashon Island! I really suggest you go check out this area while on Vashon! The lighthouse is so beautiful and the beach and the driftwood are like a movie scene! It's absolutely stunning! It wasn't that busy when we went and were planning to go back for a picnic this weekend!
google avatar

Jeff G.

Yelp
Vashon Island is a pretty unique place. It can be small towny, very rural, highly forrested, farmy or watery. The scenery is always different. Point Robinson falls into the watery view camp. It's a beautiful rocky and log swept beach that on it's own is fun to walk around and explore on. Kids and dogs love this spot. But it also has one of the most dramatic view of Mt Rainier you'll every see. I've been living on Vashon for a couple of months and my dog and I have come virtually every weekend and the view and the beach never get boring.
google avatar

Sonya W.

Yelp
Point Robinson is a lovely little park along the water that is breathtaking. On a sunny day, Point Robinson is absolutely stunning. It's a popular place for locals, many of whom bring their kids to play on the beach or come to fly their kites when there's a bit of wind. It's a good place for picnics (if you want to sit on the ground) and excellent for dipping your toes in the cool water. While the park is lovely, there isn't a lot to do. There are few benches or picnic tables and little in the way of paths. However, if you plan to spend your whole day on the beach, this is definitely the place.
google avatar

Sheree S.

Yelp
It was a very warm and beautiful day so my family amd I decided to take a last minute ferry ride to vashon island. The island is pretty big I felt. We drove to the lighthouse because that's one of the main attractions and were hoping to be able to go up to the view point. It was 3pm on a Wednesday and it was closed. I AM unaware to why this is. As there were no hours posted anywhere.
google avatar

Angelina L.

Yelp
After a morning of clouds, it seemed as the clouds parted just for us and turned into a gorgeous sunny day. I came back here with a couple friends and their pup, Buster. Both dogs had a blast. We were able to enjoy a leisurely day as one of us looked for small seashells, the other skipped rocks and I enjoyed taking pictures of it all. This beach definitely offers a shorter travel time to get to from West Seattle / Seattle. Definite must see beach.
google avatar

Beth C.

Yelp
This place is absolutely lovely and idyllic, even (especially?) on a grey, overcast day. My boyfriend and I decided to check on Vashon on a grey, rainy Sunday, and a lovely man at a bookstore recommended we check out the point and lighthouse if we like beaches. We do. One funny aside/bit of advice, however - when you get there, you'll see a sign that says "trail to the lighthouse" and also a continuing road which sternly admonishes you that the parking at the bottom of said road is for disability users only. So we gamely decided to go down the trail, being able-bodied and good citizens. However, it had been raining a lot (welcome to Washington). We made it about 1/3 of the way down the trail, slipping and sliding and cracking up. But by the time I had fallen three times (and I am usually NIMBLE like a MOUNTAIN GOAT) and snapped my jury-rigged walking staff in two, tucked my dress into my leggings and gamely tried to crab-walk down, we gave up and came back to the top. The trail is not all that well maintained, and is a mudslide after it's rained. We guiltily took the continuing road down and parked as inconspiculously as possible. Nobody else was there the whole time, so it ended up being okay. The beach is beautiful, with tons of shells, lovely rocks, and an amazing view with barges and the lighthouse and more. While there we saw a blue heron, hummingbirds, crows, seagulls, swallows, some sort of small, cute, hopping beach-bird, and even heard woodpeckers. It was a good day for birds. I'd like to come back, and next time beat that trail - if it's dry and I have a sturdier staff and some good cleats.
google avatar

Eiman J.

Yelp
Quiet and small but the beach and views are lovely. There are a lot of washed up logs that have been made smooth by the water. Quite lovely.
google avatar

JR W.

Yelp
It's a pebbly beach so wasn't the most exciting for little beachcombers. Also, the lighthouse guy working there was kind of rude and didn't interact with us. Maybe he was just preoccupied with work - seemed to be sorting some papers. The real bummer is that he didn't let us go up the actual lighthouse on a wkend! The bottom part of the lighthouse is supposed to be a mini museum, but it was really messy and cramped. Only positives were that it wasn't crowded, short hike from the car, and there was a really cool driftwood fort built on the beach.
google avatar

Maria Y.

Yelp
Point Robinson Park is on Maury Island. I grew up near this park and still like to visit it on occasion. There's an upper parking lot with some picnic tables and a small lower lot at the beach. Most of the appeal of this park is the beach. It's mostly a rocky beach with lots of logs. It has great views of the Sound and the container ships that pass by. There's no playground here, though there is one at Dockton Park nearby. There are technically two ways to get to this park, by driving along Point Robinson Road or Luana Beach Road. I would recommend Point Robinson Road. Luana Beach Road is very narrow and windy. The lighthouse isn't always open. There are free tours of it on Sundays from May through September, 12-4 PM. You can rent the Keepers' Quarters, though I don't know anything about the process of doing so. On the weekends they now have a gift shop run out of what seems to be an old garage. I didn't have my phone with me to take a picture, but they have a decent selection of local items. The shop is run by volunteers. It's a good place to hang out at the beach, have a picnic, and relax.
google avatar

Tim D.

Yelp
Nice little park. The lighthouse wasn't open, but we got to walk around it and on the beach. Nice view, and very relaxing.
google avatar

Maggie G.

Yelp
Beautiful place with a lovely view. Vashon Island is so unique in it's beauty that it's hard to find a place lacking wonder. The lighthouse was closed, so we couldn't go on a tour, but we found a cute bench to sit on, watch the sound, and take in the beauty. Definitely another spot on the list of places to see.
google avatar

Chris M.

Yelp
Breathtaking views and lots of Northwest charm. A perfect place for a beach stroll. It needs more picnic area and a real restroom instead of a dirty parking lot port a potty.
google avatar

Sara W.

Yelp
if you have never been to Vashon, you must drive to the Fauntleroy ferry dock and get over there right now! There is very little to do here unless there is a festival going on, but just driving around the island and visiting the parks is so amazing. There is tons of old growth and wildlife to be seen. The Point Robinson park has a lighthouse on it as well that is available for rent. The view of the city from there is just amazing.
google avatar

Chris P.

Yelp
The lighthouse is really cool, but the beach scenery with Rainier in the background is unbeatable.
google avatar

Christopher R.

Yelp
Took the ferry from Pt. Defiance to Vashon Island to spend the day at Pt. Robinson park. It was a lovely place with friendly people. Kids playing. The rocks and drift wood are quite beautiful, as is the forrest behind the water. The only reason I give this a 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the proximity to the Sea-Tac airport--the natural beauty and feeling of seclusion was somewhat ruined by the sound of jets taking off. Not very loud, but definitely reminds you how close to Seattle you are.
google avatar

Saxon F.

Yelp
Last time I was here I did not get a lighthouse tour (which I will do next time) but even with out the tour this park is very beautiful. There is lots of drift wood on the beach and you have a beautiful view across the sound where you can see the town of Des Moines. While I was there I saw the cutest seal pup which really made my day. Apparently they are around enough for them to have signs up! Can't wait for my next trip to Vashon, I'm going to stop back at this park for sure!
google avatar

angela b.

Yelp
Love it!!! Awesome view of Mt. Rainier and such a cute lighthouse. You can bring your dog here to run off-leash on the beach and swim in the water. You can also go kayaking from this beach if you have your own yak. The two lighthouse keeper houses on this beach are for rent by the weekend or week. Idyllic little getaway. You can watch the tugboats and freight ships on their journey to Tacoma from here, too. Also, it's the best beach for shells! Even better than Florida and Hawaii! I sware!
google avatar

Bradley N.

Yelp
Excellent park with views of Puget Sound and lots of blackberry bushes nearby when in season. I collected massive amounts while jogging/hiking to and from this popular spot, then baked them into a blackberry crumble, which we ate on the deck while marveling at Mount Rainier at sunset. Gorgeous! Staying on Vashon Island is a superb way to experience the Pacific Northwest.
google avatar

Maria C.

Yelp
This park is definitely about the water, the view and the lighthouse. It's one of those postcard parks, and there are a lot of them, and it's a good place to take visitors or be a visitor. It's not really much of a "hang out" park though if you're looking for casual fun.
google avatar

Subrosa I.

Yelp
We had a wonderful time at this neat little park. Not only is it picturesque and secluded, it also has a nice spit of beach for a relaxing stroll, some gentle, dog-friendly hiking trails, and a small, charming lighthouse.
google avatar

Marek L.

Yelp
If I could give zero stars I would. It's hard to get to and once there it's not very nice. Totally not worth the $30 spent riding the ferry not to mention the elitist snobs we spoke to while there. Do yourself a favor, save your money and go somewhere else.
google avatar

Chanta C.

Yelp
It's a great day trip where dogs are allowed! We let the dogs loose and had a picnic with only a few families around - the perfect getaway if you don't have the time or money to go any further from the city.
google avatar

Mike H.

Yelp
Beautiful beach, amazing views, fun driftwood sculptures, and a relatively easy walk from the parking lot. What more could you hope for?
google avatar

Candace W.

Yelp
Lighthouse was so cool and view was beautiful. We didn't stay long because it was too windy, cold, and smelly

Tori J.

Yelp
When the mountain is out at sunset, it's beautiful. I have never been in the lighthouse. But I have spent a lot of time here. A lot of my life happened here. It's a nice little park great for anyone- perfect for strolling.

Kathleen N.

Yelp
This park allows dogs on-leash only. A lot of reviewers post that they let their dogs run free. That is against park rules. I live on the island and attended the park recently. Rules are clearly posted.
