25 Best Beaches in the United States

"Located on the sunny southern shore of Kauai, Poipu Beach is popular for surfing, snorkeling, windsurfing, and bodyboarding. It is made up of two small coves sharing one name, separated by a narrow sand spit called a tombolo. Both sides offer breathtaking views, and if you're lucky, you may catch a glimpse of an endangered Hawaiian monk seal sunbathing." - Travel + Leisure Editors

"After, we drove over to Poipu Beach. It’s very popular. Beautiful warm water, lots of people snorkeling. Great views for a sunset. We swam and chilled to watch the sunset."

We saw incredible turtles around noon time. The beach was a small sand strip and highly overcrowded on both the sand and the water as being a popular destination. Parking was good but there was no place to seat in quiet moment to observe these wonderful turtles.

Beautiful beach. Soft sand. Rocky underneath in multiple areas. Nice cove for snorkeling with few rocks there. VERY crowded. Best part was the turtles in the evening. They came out about 7.

Beautiful beach. Good crowd. Family and kid friendly. There are times when the Hawaiian Green Sea Turtles come on the sand to rest and it's so cool to see them. The authorities ensure that they are not bothered by people by putting cones around where they are with warning signs to stay 6 ft away. And, of course the omnipresent roosters and hens everywhere in Kauai. There's also a small area of water that is protected by a reef and makes for a great place for non-swimmers (like me) or little kids to be safely in the water. Restrooms are available. Outside showers to wash yourself off. Gazebos for shade. The only odd thing we found was a small area that's walled off and marked as a family grave site (seen in my rooster pic) right on the beach edge, which was kinda weird...it wasn't even maintained or anything. Anyway, worth visiting!

Like every other review, this is a good beach to see local wildlife and watch the sunset. It's a very busy beach so don't expect it to be quiet. Bathrooms, lifeguard on duty, and plenty of parking. And just a reminder - don't stand on the reefs!!!! Respect this environment if we want to protect it.

Excellent place to watch the turtles and to snorkel! They have cones setup to keep you away from the turtles. It’s a busy beach with lots of families. There are lifeguards on duty too. Restrooms & parking are available close by. Nice place to sit and enjoy the ocean and the turtles too!

Very large beach with lots of people. Parking can be tough, and although there are picnic tables, they can be pretty gross. There are also large flocks of birds and chickens feeding on leftovers in the trash cans. The bath houses are typical for Kauai...needing a good cleaning. There are places to eat right across the street, Sea turtles come ashore and bask in the sun, and there are volunteers who watch to make sure people don't get too close to them.

Beautiful beach and a good place to watch sunset. Though we missed the sunset it was an amazing experience to see the beach and people enjoying surfing and snorkeling activities. This place is well maintained and has all the amenities like shower and restrooms accessible nearby for the public.

Beautiful beach and so cool to see the wildlife. Endangered Monk Seals, tons of sea turtles, and of course chickens. Great place to watch the sunset. Was crowded but still able to find a place and enjoy. Water is beautiful, and the public bathrooms are clean. Outdoor showers are available.
