On the Grid : Polka Dog Bakery

"The South End is full of dog owners, and Polka Dog Bakery is where they go to get their furry friends the best treats around. Polka Dog has been making all-natural dog treats from locally sourced ingredients for over 10 years. The shop has a hometown, independently-owned feel that owners and dogs alike adore. Target picked them to be one of its first Main Street USA brands in its “store within a store” concept last spring which pushed their fanbase far beyond just Boston, and we couldn't be happier for them." - Adam&Co.

Great place! The selections for dog treats is extremely diverse and the staff is always very friendly. They have everything from dog food, dog treats, and a great selection of bully sticks & other fun things. My dog absolutely loves going to Polkadog and sprints to the front door anytime we are within sight.

Google
Polkadog is hands down the best place for dog treats! My dog absolutely loves everything from there, especially the chicken treats — they’re her favorite. I trust Polkadog because their ingredients are high-quality and everything is made with so much care. It’s our go-to for healthy, delicious snacks that make my pup so happy!

The store is great. I’ve been here many times. But today I walked in with my dog, there were no other customers. There were three employees. I said hello and one of them said hi. I said it was my dog’s birthday so I was there getting him some treats and toys. He gave my dog a little treat. I was walking around filling my bag up with treats and did ask a couple of questions. I was barely acknowledged. Like I said, I have been here many many times and never had this kind of experience. Even when I was checking out these people showed zero customer service skills. I will not go back to that location again.

Google
I saw a dog get brutally attacked here. Do not bring your dog here. Dog “bakeries” should not exist. And when they do, some serious precautions should take place, which Polkadog bakery, does not have. As a dog owner, I will never go here again.

Google
I am absolutely blown away by the level of service and thoughtfulness from Polkadog! Not only did they deliver exactly what I purchased, but they went above and beyond to include extra items that I wasn’t expecting. It’s rare to find a company that takes such care in making sure their customers feel valued, and this one definitely does. The generosity they showed really made my day, and I’ll certainly be returning as a loyal customer. It's clear that they truly care about their customers and are committed to providing more than just a transaction — it’s an experience! Thank you for going the extra mile!

Google
My pup’s food got stolen from in front of my house. I was in a bit of a panic but Jim took good care of me. He walked me through the various food options that were most similar to what I normally get for my pup. Huge relief to still have this kind of customer service.

I bought a bag of Clam Chowda while on a trip to Maine. My dogs went absolutely bonkers for them. I have since ordered other products and am continually impressed by their quality. They make wonderful training treats and I appreciate the fact that there are no extra, unnecessary ingredients! Thank you for such a wonderful product!

I loved the customer service that was displayed in the day and visited the store. It is definitely a must-have location for dog owners who love their pet.🙌🏼❤️

Yelp
Love this spot! I visit here everytime I'm in Boston. All the treats are made fresh, what I really like about them is that your dogs can try the treats on the spot. This way you don't have to guess whether your dog would like something it or not! I have also bought their lobster and crab toy and they are still in good condition and very good quality!

Yelp
Not cheap, but I think that they have an excellent selection of higher end dog foods and treats. Lots of them are available in big jars with clearly marked prices, so you don't have to buy the whole dozen of them only to find out that maybe your Fido doesn't like that flavor. Fat chance. I got two chews and brought them home for the girls. Big fans of these, they were distracted long enough for me to get through the door and unpack before they were sniffing at my pockets for more. I will be back to Polkadog for sure.

Yelp
Loved this store. I made a stop in while in Boston to grab my dog a few treats. I always like to bring him stuff home when I go on a trip without him. The prices were pretty good and the selection was huge! We feed our dog raw and natural food so this store met all the requirements. The store employee was super friendly. I def would recommend this spot.

Yelp
My dogs, Lil Stinker & Dr Smallz, LOVE Polka Dog Bakery. They are noth Maltese, fussy eaters, who won't touch a Milk Bone, or any other dry dog biscuit, BUT...they devour Polka Dog treats! DOG TREATS: duck snacks, bully sticks, deer antlers, 5 pound bones, dried pig snouts, and I will let you discover the rest. STAFF: Obvious dog lovers who make sure every customer is treated like family. PRICE: Their dog treats are not that much more expensive than generic treats, with poor quality ingredients, sold at chain pet stores. Their high quality ingredients are worth every dollar! THE DEAL: Dog owners love bakeries, such as Boston's Mike's, Modern or Maria's Pastry Shops. Dogs love Polka Dog Bakery!

Yelp
I'm obsessed with this doggy shop. As a dog owner, it is really difficult to find quality locally made but reasonably priced food and treats. Polkadog Bakery meets all of my doggy's needs. My dog is in love with the dried cod skins and dried chicken treats from here. If you bring back the plastic tube container the cod skins are in, you will receive 10% off your next order. When we came here my dog had high anxiety because we were in a new unfamiliar shop. She wasn't able to try out any of the treats! So the lady working there made her a sample treat bag. That way I could come back and buy whatever her favorites were. Such great service!! And they even make doggy birthday cakes!

Yelp
My little puppy Chauncey is in the chewing phase of his life (16 weeks) and I'm so glad that I found this store. It's offers a great natural options of chews galore. My first time in the store I tried out the fletcher stick and received a complimentary bag of chicken jerky. Chauncey loved both which brought back to polka dog to try other chews. The second time coming here I asked Christina for help and she was a gem. I purchased the no rawhide salmon chew per her suggestion. I'm sure Chauncey will love them. If you gave a dog I highly recommend to come here. Your dog will love you and you'll leave with an empty wallet! :)

Yelp
Terrific pet supply store for healthy food, snacks and high quality supplies, clothes and toys. The assortment of all-natural treats and food choices is astounding. Happy that we live nearby but I'd drive 30 minutes to go there. That's how great the place is.

Yelp
Our little one absolutely loves all things Polka Dog. This wonderful dog boutique is a great place go get some delicious treats, snacks and food for your furry friend. The staff is always nice, the stores are always clean, and their snacks will become some of your pets faves. Bijoux loves the sweet potato duck wraps, fruit roll ups, and chicken kebabs just to name a few. They carry some of the best dog food brands too, and have a selection of other pet accessories and toys. Some of our faves are the fleece pullovers in these cooler temps. If you haven't been to the Polka Dog for your furry friend, you are definitely missing out!

Yelp
I first stumbled upon Polkadog Bakery while walking around in the North End. I hadn't had a dog at this point but just admired how great the selection of treats and toys was. Now, a few months later, I have a mini Aussie pup, and Polkadog in South End is pretty much our one-stop shop. I specifically wanted to feed my pup Fromms, a high quality dog food which isn't sold everywhere, so I got lucky that it's sold here. Polkadog can be a little pricey, but you really can't go wrong purchasing anything here. The clothes, toys, and treats are all great quality, and to my knowledge, they only sell top notch foods. This review is a little more for their Polkadog Delivery option. I subscribed to have my Fromms dog food purchase auto-renewed every 6 weeks. I ordered a 26-pound bag of food around noon one day, and I came home to that bag of food waiting on my doorstep that very same day. And whoever delivered it carried it all three steep flights of stairs up to my apartment door!! I was so pleasantly surprised and appreciated that they went through all the trouble. Their customer service with their delivery option is spot on. I had some questions about delaying my subscription and figuring out a gift card payment option, and both Bill and Lucas were so fast and helpful in figuring out the answers to my questions. They responded quickly, looked into my situation right away, and showed that they really care about their customers. I've been so impressed with Polkadog's service that I even recommended it to family back home in California!

Yelp
Absolutely love this place. Large variety of homemade treats and toys. The people that work there are so kind and knowledgeable about dogs and what they should and shouldn't be eating based on the age / breed! They're super friendly and obviously love their job. Also, they always give free samples any time I've come. My favorite thing is to go to the Peters Park dog park and then stop by on our way home. Definitely recommend to all dog lovers.

Yelp
Literally THE best! Dog food delivery for our 185lb English Mastiff mean consistent and reliable delivery every 19 days. Without fail, Polkadog has always come through! They have amazing customer support via email, and on-time deliveries always. Bill is my personal fave, but working with anyone at Polkadog has been nothing but a pleasant experience. Highly recommend their services and products. Love the Polkadog delivery service for our pet! (their boutique shop in Lynnfield/Market Street is also amazing!)

Yelp
We are in LOVE with Polkadog Bakery!!!!!! I am new to the South End area so I went for the first time. Todd greeted us with enthusiasm and was so very helpful in picking out treats and toys for our puppy. The store was somewhat busy but he made sure and said Hi to everyone and helped them with there questions. They had so many amazing treats our Baily was on cloud 9.

Maggie S.

Yelp
Love polkadog! Friendly staff & great products. Can't walk my dog past them without stopping by.

Flo B.

Yelp
Thanks Polkadog Bakery for your amazing product and service. Our dog was not with us when we found the store, and we got some treats to surprise her. She wasn't a fan of what we selected, but Polkadog replaced them with duck and chicken. Thank you so much Polkadog! We are delighted, happy and grateful.

Yelp
Very cute and shop in south end. Without any prior research I was expecting it to be a full blown bakery, and hoped to possibly buy a custom cake for my dog's 7th birthday. Unfortunately, their selection was smaller than what I was expecting. Although I did see about 4-5 varieties of prebaked dog treats (including pupcakes!), there were more regular treats than baked goodies. The baked treats were very hard. I have a 7lb Yorkshire terrier and he loved them, but it took him a few minutes of picking at it to finish eating. On the bright side, the ladies on shift were very nice and helpful even though I wasn't very needy. I will probably come back for other stuff or treats for a bigger dog.
google avatar

Morgana S.

Yelp
This is a nice place in the sense that it's a very clean and organized. And they carry a variety of treats but very limited in their dry food. Staff are okay, they are nice but not very helpful. One of them didn't know if they carried bland food or if they ever carry a type of puppy food. They never have any sample of dry food and THEY NEVER answer their phone no matter when or how much you call
google avatar

Yelp
I want to like Polkadog, overall my girlfriend and I had a great time going through their vast product selection. In fact our dogs love most of the goodies we picked up! However, one treat we selected, the sweet potato pork hide duck roll, proved to be dangerous for our older lab. The treat is a hard core surrounded by a edible thick skin wrapping. On this treat (at least the one we purchased) the skin proved to be too thick for my dog to easily chew through. As a result, she ate the inner core out of the treat and began trying to eat the outer skin. In this case, she ended up getting the skin lodged in her throat and choking. Fortunately we were close by and were able to pull it from her throat before anything catastrophic occurred. Since we can't predict how 'dog-safe' the treats are, we will not be going again.

Yelp
If your dog is eating from Polka, they sure as hell are living the good life. Perfectly situated in South End, there is a quaint and adorable place that makes dogs really happy. There are birthday cakes, gigantic bones that are still covered in a little bit of meat, treats of all kinds and even a little section with a showcase of other snacks for your dog. Sure, the prices may be a bit high, but who else can make your day better with a quirky smile while their tongue sticks out? You will also find unique treats and play things that make typical pet stores seem below average. There are duck snacks, bully sticks (Do you know what that is? You should ask), deer antlers, 5 pound bones, dried pig snouts, and I will let you discover the rest. Also, the staff seems very friendly and because of that, the price is fully justified. Polka Dog Bakery is a human's version of Mike's Pasty or Modern. Wouldn't you be thrilled to come home to a box of cannolis?

Yelp
Great stuff here - lots of variety of treats. Hit and miss for my dog though, since he is so picky with his treats! The staff were great though, as they let him try the treats out before purchasing to ensure that he will eat it :)

Yelp
Can't recommend Polkadog enough! This is without question our "go-to" place for all thing dog! The quality of the treats, food, supplies is second to none and most important of all, our dog loves it! His friends at the store are so kind to him and every time we walk by the Shawmut Ave location he tried to pull us in. Give them a shot, you won't regret it.

Yelp
Awesome and unique treats for your dogs and cats. My pups have loved the dried cod skins for a while. We order the fish skins online, so it was cool to be in the store to see all of their variety of treats. On my visit I picked up some 'no hide' rawhide bones which were dipped in salmon flavoring. These bones are actually made from rice and are a good alternative if your dog moistens and swallows whole (like mine does) traditional rawhide.

Yelp
We love it here! The staff is super knowledgeable about the product and they are always there with a smile and a treat for our little lady!
google avatar

Yelp
Super helpful staff, great treats at pretty reasonable prices for the quality. Not as many baked treats as expected when the name includes bakery, but my puppet was still a big fan of his birthday cake nonetheless. Great chicken treats!!
google avatar

Brianne S.

Yelp
My Shepherd loves cods skins ( way better than her eating old dead fish, stinky washed upon Ontario lake shores!) Omega oils, good for humans and animals! Give what nature inspired!

Yelp
Knowledgeable staff, great product offerings and savings. Definitely my new go to store in the South End.

Yelp
The review is a compilation review for product and their website. I have purchased their cod treats for years and my dogs love them, however, I recently placed an order on their website for 6 cases of dog food - I received 2 emails telling me they were behind in their orders but my order would be on its way soon.. 12 days later I received an email asking if I really meant to order 6 cases - perhaps I meant to order 6 cans - I replied that 6 cans would be pretty expensive $$254 ... and then I was told the items were not available. Apparently they company never had the items, but I went on their website that day and yet they were still selling the item. It is now7 days later and I have yet to receive the credit. They may make delicious dog treats but their business practices are horrific. They would get a 5+ for the treats and a negative 5 for their online business...

Yelp
The staff is always super helpful. The stores inventory is exactly what I need and I like all the brands that Polka offers. And the staff is really knowledgeable about the products.

Yelp
Polka Dog is pretty far out of the way for me but totally worth a weekly visit to stock up on cat food. I went in with a friend one day after taking her dog to the park around the corner. First off, perfect location for getting your pup a treat before or after a playdate with the other south end dogs. They have a ton of homemade treats for dogs, and I can see how it would get expensive quickly. When we wandered in that first time, I saw a small section of canned cat foods with brands that I had never seen in the super market or chain pet stores. I stocked up on a few brands, and both my cats (Bijou and 'the other one') went nuts over Tiki Cat brand cat food, with it's big chunks of shrimp, fish, and rice. So I go back regularly to stock up, and love that the small cans cost the same amount as the small cans of Newman's Own cat food that I find at the supermarket. Another great thing about Polka Dog is that they carry biobags, which I think are a necessity not only for dog owners but for litter scooping cat owners as well (or for wrapping up your used TP in Costa Rica!)

Yelp
Tomorrow is my dogs birthday and she requested a birthday cake from polka dog! Dog party at my place. On a slightly more serious note, the service is amazing as well as the selection and atmosphere. the owners gave us good advice on helping her adjust to her move to Massachusetts.

Yelp
I live in Southern California, recently my pet store has started stocking the Polka Dog "Cod Skins". My dogs love love love them, when I went back recently they were out and we were upset so we asked the owners to please buy some more and they told us that we were the 5th or 6th person to tell them that just today! Obviously im not the only one who thinks that Polka Dog is a winner! Love the natural vibe. Polka Dog keep it up! I wish there was a 6 star option

Yelp
* Great Selections * My wife and I (and dog) found this place a few years ago, after visiting the nearby park. This is a small shop/bakery that offers a huge selection of homemade food, treats, and baked goods for dogs. (A lot of that stuff looks good enough for humans to eat too.) They also offer animal toys and accessories at the downstairs area of the bakery. The staff is very friendly and help pick out the proper food based on your dog's diet. Their food prices may be a bit high for some people, but high quality products are not cheap. We typically buy some cookies and stuffed bones for the tail-wagger. Our home is nowhere close to the bakery anymore, but we stop by once a year with the kids (and dog) to get treats for our dog's birthday. * Bottom Line * If you're in the South End, then have the dog drag you over for a visit.

Yelp
Thank you, Nick V., for saying it first. This place sure is cute. And I'm a huge dog lover. But Polka Dog is everything that's wrong with the new-ish South End. The Pine Street Inn AND the Animal Rescue League are about 3 blocks away, and yet people drop hundreds of dollars on cashmere sweaters and organic cannoli for their dogs. Just read the comments: "...for those looking for pup to be on the more fashionable side...These [collars] are expensive ($36 each) but they're cute and trendy." Have you ever noticed that, given the option, DOGS EAT THEIR OWN SH*T? Wake up. Dogs are animals, not fashion accessories. There are better ways to spend your excess cash. Don't even get me started on the Halloween dog parade (sponsored by Doggie Day Care) I accidentally crossed the parade route last year. The noise, the crowd, the costumes - more than one dog looked scared sh*tless. We're wasting the Boston PD's time on this? UPDATE: Ok, I stand corrected and added a star. Apparently the treats are flippin' sweet and "reasonable." And my mom was intrigued by the lower level (she has 2 big dogs). Perhaps my problem is more with the cultural phenomenon of cashmere dog sweaters. I will have to do some thinking, Yelpers. **UPDATE #2 Anyone who tries to park in the South End, especially itty bitty Shawmut, deserves what they get, which is the chance to haul an expensive bag of dog food many blocks. Take the T there and a cab home.

Yelp
Pricey but at times, so very worth it. Homemade, healthy dog treats, every variety of rawhide you can imagine, an endless selection of toys and accessories, various foods, friendly staff. One of the very best doggy bakeries in the country. Highly recommended!

Yelp
I actually had very high hopes about this place from all the great reviews here on yelp. I visited here awhile back with my yorkie and my boyfriend. My dog was loving the place because of all the snacks. I like their selection, it's not bad. But the one thing that has me not returning to this place is their customer service. There was no one in that store when we went in, and no one behind the counter said hello or even acknowledged us. They were not busy and one of them was standing there with her arms crossed. We proceeded to the different jars of treats and my boyfriend and I were discussing which one to get our dog. We were asking questions out loud and I knew they heard us and not once did they jump in and say, excuse me but I would recommend this for a yorkie. Finally I asked them and the woman who answered said, well, they're all pretty good I guess this one here since it's a big seller. I guess this one here? The staff is not friendly at all, not knowledgable about the products, and have some type of attitude problem. We returned here a few times after that incident giving them another chance. But time and time again they disappointed us. We wanted to like Polka Dog, we really did. Not to mention it's a bit pricey and it wouldn't matter to us to make our lil pup happy but I'm not paying extra for crap service.

Yelp
I love it here probably more than my golden retriever does. I've only taken Bailey here once but he loved sniffing everything. The store is organized very well and the staff is very knowledgeable. They helped me pick out a food for Bailey that was chock full of yummy stuff. We didn't keep him on the food but I know he loved it. Bailey's boxer girlfriend, Josie, gets super fun treats from here, he's always jealous! The downstairs has really adorable collars and leashes. The only downside is that they're not opened really late. I brought Bailey here after dinner one night and they were closed already. It was probably later than I thought it was but I felt bad that he walked all the way from Beacon Hill to the South End for nothing.... ok I didn't really feel bad because he still got an awesome walk.

Yelp
For about a month I thought this was the Polka DOT Bakery, not Polka Dog. Despite walking by it every day and going in about once a week, I did not notice the G. I realized it was for dogs, and even thought "Polka Dot Bakery" was a strange name for a doggie boutique but still didn't notice. A kind friend pointed out my error and I haven't forgotten the name since. This is a great store for dogs. Great treats by the handfuls and in MANY sizes and flavors, many toys, great selection of dog collars and leashes, and, of course, clothes. My favorite maker of collars is sold here - Bella Bean. These are expensive ($36 each) but they're cute and trendy. Many dogs in the neighborhood are sporting Bella Bean so the cost isn't a big deterrent. The staff is wonderful. They're always nice and friendly. I once forgot my wallet and the cashier nicely allowed me to take out an "IOU." I went back the next day to pay. Such kindness isn't often afforded these days but that's what this store has always been for me and my dog. Remember to go downstairs! More toys, collars and jackets are located below. Also, this store is conveniently located near the Peter's Park dog park. Have Fido run around with his pals at the park and then stop by here on your way home for some post-play treats.

Yelp
We stopped in here at the encouragement of a fellow French Bulldog owner at at Frenchie Meetup at Peter's Park. Yes, I really did just type that sentence. As a new dog owner, I had no idea a "pig's ear" was actually a... pig's ear. Just when I was beginning to get the hang of things (i.e. if it's called a pig snout, it probably is a pig snout), I came across a glass jar stuffed labeled "Texas toothpicks." Everything may be bigger in Texas, but these toothpicks were actually cow tails. I digress. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, and offered great suggestions for treats for Clark. We didn't buy a pig ear, nor a Texas toothpick, but we did leave with a great variety of snacks and treats for the little monster. The selection is excellent and varied. The lower level features toys, leashes, jackets and beds. We picked up a pretty great warm, weatherproof jacket (it doesn't scream "I am a dog wearing a jacket."), which Clark proudly wore out the door.

Yelp
Love it love it LOVE IT. My husband and I found Polka Dog a couple years ago when popping in and out of open houses some Sunday afternoon. We went in, bought a few cookies and that was that. Since then, I think I look forward to visiting more than my pooch. We have a boxer and given the story of the store, I think that's why I love it even more than I probably should (dork). I now go for new toys after my girl has destroyed her current ones, more bakery goodies since she has a history of GI issues and she seems to do really well on their treats, and more recently, because we switched her to a new food. I'd heard wonderful things about Canidae. I thought it would be a) impossibly difficult to find in the city, and b) outrageously expensive. Turns out, Polka Dog is selling it for the same price as the crappy stuff in PetSmart - oh happy day! Yet another reason to regularly visit this puppy/pet wonderland. I only wish there were more clothing options for larger dogs like ours. Granted, I'm not one to dress her up in ruffles and rhinestones, but during the winter, boxers too need coats! One last comment - no matter how busy it is in there, the staff has always been very attentive to our needs, helping us out, suggesting various things to get, etc... Outstanding service.

Yelp
We generally take a trip to the South End on the weekends if the weather is nice to take our dog to the dog park at Peter's Park. I have heard about this place before and have known that it is very close to the park but never really sought it out before. We decided to take a trip there this afternoon though. They have a very nice variety of stuff there in terms of treats, toys, apparel, and other pet needs. The variety is not only seen in the items but also the prices. Examples: Exhibit A: I picked up a really cool toy for my dog. It is this stuffed tree stump with holes in it and 3 squeaky squirrels that can be put in and pulled out. 16 bucks for a 4 piece interactive toy. Totally reasonable! and all the other toys I glanced at as well were what you would expect to pay for such a toy. Exhibit B: I happened to look at a couple collars hanging on the wall downstairs. 68 bucks for one of them! I personally would never spend that much money on a collar for my dog, despite how nice it was. A lot of the other collar/leashes/doggy sweaters/etc were drastically expensive. Exhibit C: Their treats. It is amazing the variety of what they have. I didn't look at everything, because my dog personally has too many treats at home, but from what I saw, the prices weren't too crazy. We ended up getting him some of the beef nibbles. It was like 2 bucks for an ounce (like 2 handfuls of them). Totally reasonable as well. Exhibit D: We also picked up this grooming spray stuff for itching/hot spots. It was 18 bucks. Not super cheap, but not super expensive and it was a big enough bottle that it will last a while. This shop definitely has something for every type of dog owner. There are reasonably priced items and treats for the average dog owner that doesn't mind buying their dog stuff when the price is right, and then there are lots of trendy expensive items for the dog owner that wants to spend their paycheck on clothes and collars for their dog so that their dog can be better dressed then them. We will definitely be making a trip here again whenever we are at the dog park though, even if its just to spend a couple dollars on some special treats.

Yelp
Everyone who works at Polka Dog is helpful and extremely friendly. We were looking for new food to put my dog on and the girl who works there gave me some samples of this oatmealish food that Toby loves. Polka Dog is filled with awesome treats and special treats for your best buddy. The treats are homemade and can be pricey but of course you'd want the best for your little pooch! We only get Toby's treats and food here now ^^ After going to the dog park, he heads into the direction of Polka Dog!

Yelp
After my experience today, I realized it was time for me to update my review. The last couple of times I've gone into Polka Dog, my pups and I have all had a very nice experience. A few months ago I had my wife with me too and we were treated really lovely. The place was crowded but people working there were certain to greet us and ask if we needed anything. But today's experience was simply lovely. It was just me and my two dogs. There was a man and woman working behind the counter. The man greeted me and answered questions I had. He gave my pups treats (which he didn't have to do!) and seem to genuinely want to help. The woman was so nice too. She came out from behind the counter to say hello and make sure that my dogs had had treats. She still let them have more and even let them sample a new treat I was hesitate to buy (needless to say it was bought). I didn't want to perceived as that dog owner that expected them to give out samples to my dogs all the time and was a little embarrassed by all the treats they offered, but their generosity was so genuine and so well...gracious I was really touched. We all left the shop with a smile on our faces and really happy to start our day with such an amazing experience. Thank you Polka Dog - you exceeded our expectations with your treats and customer service! Consider us 3 raving fans :) ---------------------------------------------------------- After trips to Peters Park or the vet (we go to South Bay on Tremont), I like to bring the pups here for a special treat. We're certainly not regulars but we do stop in every once & a while. My dogs love it. As soon as we get within a block they pull on their leashes knowing exactly where we're going. I like the story behind the bakery and I deeply respect the owners and the business they've created. The treats are wholesome and I feel good giving them to my dogs knowing I've supporting a great local business and a wonderful part of the community. But my issue and reason for 2 stars comes down to my interaction with the employees here. Every single time I stop in, I'm not acknowledged, my dogs are not acknowledged and no one seems very interested in helping us shop. It's almost like working in a candy store and not liking kids. It feels weird to be ignored. Do I smell? Are my dogs not cool enough? Perhaps it's b/c I'm not a regular but it happens literally every single time I stop by. And when I do buy stuff, I'm asking if I want my receipt. Um, yes, please. Does that make me cheap that I want to see what I just spent $30 bucks on? I wish my human interactions weren't so negative. I won't stop going though b/c I know my dogs love it there and I really do like the treats (very very high quality) but the level of service is definitely meh and doesn't even come close to how awesome the treats are.

Yelp
I live more than 30 mins south of Boston and drive my dogs in for a routine of Peter's Park playing then excitedly walking to Polka Dog! My 2 pups salivate at the door and are crying for treats as soon as we walk back out! Their favorite treat is the PB stuffed hooves. As a vegetarian it's totally disgusting to me, but anything that keeps my dogs chewing, happy and entertained for hours and hours I'll buy! The staff is absolutely amazing. They are so helpful and are obvious dog lovers. I tell every dog owner I know about Polka Dog and even I look forward to going there!!

Yelp
As an owner of a dog-centric business, I find Polka Dog to be my boutique of choice when it comes to food related items. I absolutely love their selection - anything you can possibly need for all breeds and ages. If they don't have it in store, they're always happy to order it for you. Their staff has been nothing but friendly and knowledgable to me in the years that I've frequented the South End and Jamaica Plain locations. Their baked treats are fabulous, the bones they make and fill are a delight, and they've never been shy of taking bulk orders for treats during the holiday season. They always deliver. There are few places I go and trust with certainty in the Boston area insofar as my dogs food and treats are concerned, and Polka Dog certainly tops my list. I absolutely love them!

Yelp
Went in today after a day at the dog park, staff was friendly and helpful but not hovering. Got a bone filled with PB and some other treats for our doggy child... :)

Yelp
A bakery for dogs and much much more, the cool offering and friendly smiling staff make this south end gem irresistible. Sign up for their mailing list and get invited to fun puppy fashion shows, mixers and pet parades. They recently took over the pace next door further spreading the poochie love:)

Yelp
5 Stars for their bone selection and prices. They have the ultimate supply of any and all bully products for your dog - knots of all sizes, sticks, rings... Most aren't overly expensive either [some are a bit on the high side]. The treats are awesome - you can buy them by the ounce which helps save a little money and get you some variety! I love the items downstairs - clothes, leashes, collars, etc. but they're all a little too pricey for me and my dog, which brings them down to 4 stars. Conveniently located right next to Peters Park too!

Yelp
This is a great spot to grab a gift for a puppy in your life. They have a downstairs full of toys and leashes and collars. The bakery upstairs is where they make tons of treats (which they sell in cute packaging). They have a bunch of glass jars with treats and chewy toys (the fermented yak milk stick lasts forever and the dogs love it). Also lots of fun toys upstairs. I've only ever purchased gifts here but I know they have food and dog-paw-friendly salt for the sidewalk, too. The staff is friendly and nice--they let you squeak and test to your hearts content.

Yelp
Not enough can be said about this place! Friendly knowledgable staff really helps you when you just don't know what you are doing. VERY VERY helpful. The place has the best treats and you know you are getting quality which for your dog is the ONLY thing you should be getting. And the layout of this place is awesome in a town of a lot of hyperspeed shopping they get it that I just wanna take my time and not be pressured or "checked on" every five minutes. That and I always get that they enjoy seeing dogs in their store which is what it is all about... right? go there now. no really now.
