"Ride up the Polybahn for Stellar Views The terrace at ETH Zurich—where Einstein was an alum—lords high above the city for catch-your-breath views beyond to the lake and the Alps. A number of trams will take you to the terrace, but the most fun way to get there is on the fire-engine red Polybahn, one of only two funiculars left in the city, and the most conveniently located. It runs every 2.5 minutes from the Central stop."

The ride only lasts about 2 minutes, but it’s full of character — with its retro wooden interior and preserved station design. Once you reach the top, you'll find the ETH main campus just across the street — and more importantly, a public terrace lookout point offering panoramic views of Zurich and its lake. It’s an underrated but highly rewarding stop for any visitor. Perfect for a quick ride with kids or as part of a walking route around the city. A small but iconic piece of Zurich’s charm.

It was a short but lovely ride. If you already have a public transportation ticket, you can use it for the polybahn. Once you reach the top, you'll exit near the school that Albert Einstein attended. I didn't go inside, but the view from up there is amazing.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Riding the Polybahn was such a fun and memorable experience! I loved that it was included in my SBB daily travel pass, so there was no need for an extra ticket. The ride itself is quick but scenic, and once you reach the top, you’re rewarded with spectacular views over the heart of Zürich. Be sure to stop in at the university and look for Einstein’s locker. It’s a cool little surprise that adds to the charm of the whole experience. A great blend of history, convenience, and stunning sights. Don’t miss it!

Was useful back in the day but it's more of a novelty today. The ride is really short, about two minutes and it takes you up a small hill to the University that most can easily walk up in 10 mins. You buy your ticket at the kiosk in front of the station or the SBB app and board the funicular. If you have the Zürich Card or the Swiss Travel Pass, it's included for Free. They tend to check your tickets at the top. There's no amazing view during the ride but it was fun to experience what it was like back in the day. I took it up and walked down and it was fun to walk around the two Universities at the top.

The «Polybähnli», as the red funicular railway is affectionately called, takes only 100 seconds from the Central station up to thePoly terraceThis nostalgic train is especially popular with students. After all, it's the shortest connection from Limmatquai to the university and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology. Tourists and locals also enjoy riding the Polybahn because of its practicality. Once at the top, the Polyterrasse offers a wonderful view of the Old Town and Lake Zurich. The ticket is CHF 2.50. Better to take online

UBS Polybahn is a funicular rail which stats from central square and goes up to university terrace. It was started in early 18th century to carry rich people who use reside upstairs. In mid 19th century when it started to loose money, a big bank UBS AG took it over and gave it to Zurich Municipal body to run it. It has got 2 cars which can carry 50 passengers each, track length is 577 feet and running time 100 seconds. It runs every 3 minutes. The view from terrace is excellent. Worth trying !!

Cool little tram that brings you to the top of the hill. It’s a very short experience though. I didn’t encounter a ticket check, but you should always get a ticket nonetheless—SBB inspectors may spring upon you like ninjas.

One of my favourite experiences of the city! Only a short ride up, so cheap and the views at the top were so picturesque

Yelp
This is a great little tram that will take you from the Limmattquai up a hill really close to ETH and the University of Zurich. I highly recommend this three minute ride up hill because from the top you will have absolutely magnificent views of Zurich and the Limmatt River. I was able to get terrific panoramic photos on the way up and from the ETH University which is about sixty yards to the right of the train stop at the top. Visited November 2013
