This will be an absolutely honest review of our stay here this past weekend.
We went for a company retreat and while the organization of various events could have had better signage inside the main lodge when events took place in buildings outside of the main lodge, overall, they handled the extra traffic extremely well.
The rooms could use a little updating compared to other mountain hotels I've stayed at. The mini fridge is very small in that it cannot accommodate 591ml and larger water bottles very well. It's the smallest style mini fridge possible, which doesn't fit well with a room that has two queen beds since it could have been a family staying in any of those rooms. With putting four bottles of water in there, there was no room for any left overs, which didn't matter since there wasn't a microwave.
As someone who enjoys project management, I find it odd to do renovations on the indoor pools and Waterpark during the winter, forcing guests to use the outdoor pools during that time, when the hand rails to the heated swimming pool freeze up due to steam and touching them means fingers sticking to the metal. Spring and summer would have been a better time to do renovations when the weather outside is more forgiving and accommodating to walk out there. I'd think that winter would be a busy time for them with the ski resort, but I could be wrong and maybe summer is busier. That still doesn't change my opinion on which time of year is better to inconvenience guests and which is safer as well. The outdoor hot tub and pool are fabulous though. The entire lodge grounds are absolutely fantastic! There is one thing that stood out and impressed me the most though.
I have several true allergies and many oral allergies. When these were brought to the attention of the chef ahead of time before we arrived, I was absolutely floored with the fact that I was able to safely eat and enjoy every single dinner course that was brought out. The chef was knowledgeable in my allergies and prepared slight variations of the meals that everyone was eating so that I wasn't completely singled out, but so that I also didn't get an upset stomach or have an anaphylaxis reaction either. This is the first time in my entire life that such accommodations were made for me and were done so successfully and deliciously. I'm not sure who the chef is, but thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping me blend in so well and for allowing me to enjoy such a wonderful meal. I was prepared to purchase food from somewhere to eat just in case I couldn't have what was served and you made my night! The Beef Short Rib surprised me and so many others. It was juicy, melted in your mouth and full of flavor. My partner had the chicken and some were worried that it might come dry or overcooked, but again, this chef and their staff prepared a flavorful, juicy chicken that impressed us both. Yes, I shared my short rib in order to get some of his chicken.
Now to review Woody's and the other bar we went to. Woody's was a fun relaxed environment, but when the drink I ordered nearly made me choke because it was too strong in some of the ingredients, the staff member said "well you asked if it had this in it and I said yes". True, I did, but I didn't realize how poor the ratio would be to the point that I couldn't drink it. The same thing happened with someone else who had the same drink the night before, but at a different part of the lodge. Maybe reviewing procedures if a guest mentions that it's simply too much and offering to pour some out and top it up with the non-alcoholic mix that was used would have helped dilute it, but to blame the customer? That's not good service. We received amazing service at the Blackstone Bar (or something like that name) that was down from the reception desk. Our server was peppy, friendly, and on spot when serving us and a large crowd two nights in a row. I didn't catch her name, but if she sees this, I hope she knows that she did an amazing job that night.
