"Golf enthusiasts will find plenty to love at Pompano Beach Club—the family-owned resort is practically next door to the world-famous links of Port Royal. But the former fishing club is also a haven for anglers of every stripe: You can grab a complimentary rod from the hotel staff and wade out nearly 400 yards on the nearby sandbar to cast for bonefish and—what else?—pompano, or charter a vessel to catch yellowfin tuna and mahi-mahi on a deep-sea voyage. Back on land, the 75 guest rooms provide laid-back ambience thanks to floor-to-ceiling windows perfect for enjoying panoramic ocean views. Better still, retire, rum swizzle in hand, to the terrace of the appropriately named Sunset Lounge to take in the postcard-worthy vistas."

Pompano Beach Club, Southampton Parish, Bermuda - Hotel Review | Condé Nast Traveler

"What makes this resort so special? Pompano Beach Club, a family-run Southampton resort, has one of the most unique beachfronts of any resort in Bermuda—one where you’ll likely spend the bulk of your time during your stay, thanks to a massive sand bar located directly off its coastline. At low tide, this is where you can walk nearly 200 yards in knee-to-chest-deep water—which, by the way, is perfectly still and as clear as gin. If you’re lucky, you’ll also spot the fish that give this hotel the other part of its name: blueish-green pompano that call these sand flats home. What's the story behind it? This is the only resort in Bermuda that’s majority-owned by an American family. As the story goes, New Englander Tom Lamb fell in love with Bermuda in the 1950s; he partnered with a Bermudian businessman in 1956 to open what was then a small fishing lodge where guests caught their own dinner. Eventually Lamb bought the hotel outright and expanded it into its current iteration: a sprawling, cliffside property where ocean views abound and intergenerational families embrace its all-inclusive ease. How are the rooms? You won’t be blown away by the room’s basic décor and simple furnishings, but you'll have one of the best ocean views in Bermuda and ample outdoor space, so head to your private balcony and smell the salt air. Since Pompano is on a cliff high above the water, you can look out for miles onto the turquoise Atlantic—make sure you have plenty of storage left in your phone for pics galore. Is there a charge for Wi-Fi? There's free Wi-Fi. Drinking and dining—what are we looking at? Since the room rate also includes breakfast and dinner, it’s likely you’ll be eating onsite for the majority of your stay. But most guests wouldn’t want it any other way, which is why so many folks return to Pompano. Like its rooms, all three restaurants face the ocean; don’t miss dinner at the Ocean Grill, where you’ll be surrounded by three walls of 30-foot-tall floor-to-ceiling windows. How do the staff treat you? Management duties have passed through the Lamb Family tree, many of whom attended the prestigious Cornell Hotel School, ever since this hotel opened in 1956. For them, this is much more than a small resort—it’s their home, and you'll be treated like family. What type of travelers will you find here? Intergenerational families who’ve been visiting Bermuda for years and golfers who’ve come for the proximity to Port Royal Golf Course, just next door. Anything fun to do in the surrounding area? You’ll be on the far west end of Southampton, a 50-minute taxi from the airport and a 35-minute ride into Hamilton. But this is one of the closest hotels to the Royal Naval Dockyard and its family-friendly collection of sites and attractions, so getting to places like the National Museum of Bermuda or the Bermuda Transport Museum will be a breeze. Is there anything you'd change? The rooms could use some TLC in the design department. What have we missed? The main focus of this resort is that gorgeous slice of powdery pink sand and the aforementioned sand bar that extends just beyond it. Explore it by heading straight to the water sports hut where you can rent snorkel gear, glass-bottom kayaks, stand-up paddle boards, and Hobie Cat sailboats. Rather just swim? Make a beeline for the two floating swim platforms, about 100 yards out, where you can relax in absolute seclusion. Bottom line: Worth it? Why? This is one of the few hotels in Bermuda where most meals are included, so if you’re looking for hotel where you won't have to continuously grab your wallet, give this one a whirl." - David LaHuta

Everything was amazing when I vacation in Bermuda. The staff were friendly supportive had good insight when it came to activities. They have good knowledge about the island and where to go and gave honest opinions. The meals were amazing and nobody would leave hungry after the meals that were provided. The beach was picture perfect and the beach side bar was an amazing addition and made it super easy when needing a drink at the beach. The view from the main building and from your room was second to none as you looked over the ocean, that was incredible. The weather was amazing during our stay, which is something that is out of everyone’s control, which made the stay even better. I definitely will be back to Pompano Beach club in the future And highly recommend staying at this location when visiting Bermuda.

Nestled in the hills of Pompano Bay this resort is a picturesque postcard with views of the ocean in every room. The hospitality cannot be surpassed. The owners and staff are outstanding, genuine and caring. They go above and beyond. The resort is quaint, yet grand in nature. The food menu changed nightly at the cedar room. The ocean grill excellent also. Delicious and prepared to perfection every meal was perfect. I highly recommend this wonderful hotel. It is truly special. No wonder people come back year after year. we will return.

Reading some of the past reviews I’m left speechless by some of them. We just returned from a one week stay here. We were greeted by one of the owners upon arrival. He gave us a tour of the property and explained everything thoroughly. Let’s talk about the food first. I thought the food was very good for a meal plan. Plenty of options and the menu changes daily. Next up is the birds. Yes there are birds in the lobby/restaurant. We never felt it interfered with our dining. We never had bird droppings on us or in our food. Don’t feed the birds and they won’t bother you. Next I’ll talk about the property and rooms. We had a room on top of the hill. Upon arrival we were told if we ever needed a ride up to our room it was not a problem and this is 100 percent true. Anytime my father ,who is older, needed a ride he never waited more than a few minutes. Could the hotel use some updates…yes but in no way did it affect our vacation. The view from our balcony was priceless. Last I want to speak about the staff. They are simply amazing. Kind, helpful and accommodating. Sone of them went above and beyond (CC, George to name a few). Other highlights were the rum swizzle party and DJ Bubbles. Thank you Pompano Beach Club for giving us a week of memories we will treasure forever.

Wonderful place for a family to visit. The service is amazing. Lots of repeat guests that have been coming here for years / generations. Wonderful service and the owners are very generous / gracious. Rooms and buildings need upgrades. Lots of leaks when it rains and clothes seemed damp the whole time.

We just returned from our latest visit to Bermuda and Pompano Beach Club is the only place for us. Where to begin? ||If you’re looking for super-fancy, sleek and a loud New York vibe, this isn’t the place for you. On the other hand, if you’re looking for warm, friendly, inviting and comfortable, you’ve found it.||The location is great - nestled on the highly desirable south shore, it’s about 40 minutes from the airport, but less than 30 minutes to both Dockyard and Hamilton. If you’re so inclined, you can rent a minicar or scooter on property, but busses or ferries are also a great way to see the island - and the hotel will give you a lift to either one a few minutes from the hotel.||The rooms are comfortable and homey and, if you choose one with ocean views, the views are spectacular. ||There are two full service restaurants on property - the slightly more upscale Ocean Grill and the Cedar Room. The food at both is excellent, with a nice variety of choices. Dinner on the meal plan is a good deal and includes five courses. ||Don’t miss the weekly swizzle party, which includes non-stop swizzles and lots of yummy appetizers. It’s often followed by a delicious barbecue.||Pompano boasts one of the best and most beautiful hotel beaches in all of Bermuda. Smooth sand and gentle waves. Everything you might want or need is right there, from chairs to umbrellas to noodles/floats, plus there’s a bar. Just steps away you can rent snorkel equipment or a kayak. If you prefer the pool, they have a very nice small one with its own bar area.||There’s a decent fitness center, pickleball courts, and even a spa, hair salon and game room. There’s nightly entertainment, including a DJ, a pianist and more.||There’s always a list of daily activities (snorkel cruise, deep sea fishing, cocktail cruise) you can sign up for right at the front desk and a top-notch golf course (Port Royal, where the PGA holds an annual tournament) literally next door.||The staff, many of whom have been with Pompano for years, are warm and friendly. The owners, brothers Larry and Tom Lamb, are ever-present on property and work hard to make sure that everyone is comfortable and happy.||Yes, there are steps (as you can see from the photographs, the resort is built into the side of a substantial hill), but the hotel staff will cheerfully give you a lift anywhere on property (minus the beach, where it isn’t possible) and some rooms feature no steps at all.||I can’t recommend Pompano Beach Club highly enough. Already thinking about our next visit.

If you’re ever in Bermuda on July 4th, run don’t walk, to Pompano for their amazing barbecue buffet. Amazing seafood of every kind, delicious sushi , creative salads and, to cap it all a whole Maine lobster to go with your steak, ribs, chicken etc. If you have space do visit the dessert table, fresh strawberries and cream, pecan pie and all manner of tempting delights. Hosted by the Lamb family and their wonderful team of dining room staff you will not be disappointed!

This place is incredible. We’ve been all over the Caribbean and West Indies and none compare to these views and water. On top of that, the hospitality that Larry the owner offers on a daily basis is unmatched. He goes above and beyond for every guest. Pompano is all around first class service, amazing food, best service we’ve had, and an amazing beach.

We were at the Pompano Beach Club many years ago (2013) and returned with our kids now aged 9 and 5 as well as their grandparents (in their 70s). We have been to Bermuda three times and stayed at Grotto Bay last year mainly because it was so close to the airport and was touted as family friendly. Pompano is definitely a bit further away. We had a bit of a wait at the airport to get a taxi (apparently a super busy day for Bermuda when we landed). It was about 40 minutes or so to get to Pompano Beach Club. I agree with a previous reviewer that the room was a little dated. However it was well kept and there was a pull out sofa for my oldest daughter and a little cot set out for my son. There was a king sized bed as well which was nice because last time we stayed in a resort here we had two double beds so the room was definitely bigger. There was also a little mini fridge which was handy as we stored some sparkling water and cheese that we got from the market up the road. There was both a tub and a shower in the bathroom so good for little kids who don't shower and for adults who do. We had an adjoining room with the grandparents which was convenient. There were many cottages we stayed in the dolphin house. The views from the terrace were amazing. The entire hotel is located in an amazing spot. The beach here is very shallow which is part of why we booked here. In low tide you can walk out almost half a mile or further. There is some snorkeling at the reef out by the furthest swimming dock. Lots of toys for the kids including swimming noodles, swimming mats, and snorkeling gear. We didn't rent kayaks but those were available as well. The hotel also provides bait for fishing (squid rings and bread) and fishing poles. There are boats that go out further for fishing as well as sunset cruises you can sign up for at the hotel. There is live music most nights and our kids enjoyed the Steel drums performance a lot. We were here Monday for the Rum Swizzle party and outdoor barbecue grill. There was an impressive display of salads, cheese platter, ribs, steaks, fish. The food was ok but the star was the dessert table and the pastry chef who had made I think every dessert out there including chocolate cake, carrot cake, bread pudding, chocolate mousse, flan, multiple cheese cakes, peanut brittle, banana cake, and probably a few others I have forgotten about. We had the meal plan which included dinner (5 courses and breakfast which was a mix of buffet style vs ordering off the menu). There are two restaurants for dinner, ocean grill and cedar room. Ocean grill required reservations but that wasn't an issue for when we visited in mid July it was always available when we wanted it and I recommend the outdoor seating. Highlights included the surf and turf, fish chowder, cold gazpacho, swordfish. A lot of the steaks were underseasoned without any salt so I had to add that back. The kids menu was convenient and had traditional American offerings including hamburgers and hot dogs. There is a golf course which I believe is operated by the government which is connected on the further topmost cottage to the Pompano via a small path with commanding ocean and sunset views. Lastly the service was very friendly all and all. Met one of the owners who was very nice and offerred advice on things to do. They sell ferry passes (you only need 1 zone 3 not 4 per adult however for the Dockyard to Hamilton ferry). They drive you to the supermarket, the Rockaway ferry (more of a commuter ferry) or the bus station. They called the night before we departed to help arrange a taxi back to the airport. A shout out as well to the bartender at the Sand bar Kairo who helped make a makeshift Gatorade for my father in law who was having some dehydration issues out of orange juice, salt, and limes. There are a lot of stairs to the ocean beach (about 86 steps). Not an issue for the kids or us but somewhat laborious for the grandparents so keep that in mind if you have mobility limitations.
