The Best Hotels in Bermuda for Every Kind of Island Vibe | Condé Nast Traveler

"Family-run and perched on Southampton’s far west end, this sprawling cliffside resort is beloved for a uniquely mesmerizing beachfront: a massive sand bar just offshore where, at low tide, you can walk nearly 200 yards through perfectly still, crystal-clear knee-to-chest-deep water and, if you’re lucky, spot the blueish-green pompano that inspired the name. Intergenerational families embrace the all-inclusive ease and constant ocean views, with Port Royal Golf Course right next door." - CNT Editors, Shannon McMahon

"Golf enthusiasts will find plenty to love at Pompano Beach Club—the family-owned resort is practically next door to the world-famous links of Port Royal. But the former fishing club is also a haven for anglers of every stripe: You can grab a complimentary rod from the hotel staff and wade out nearly 400 yards on the nearby sandbar to cast for bonefish and—what else?—pompano, or charter a vessel to catch yellowfin tuna and mahi-mahi on a deep-sea voyage. Back on land, the 75 guest rooms provide laid-back ambience thanks to floor-to-ceiling windows perfect for enjoying panoramic ocean views. Better still, retire, rum swizzle in hand, to the terrace of the appropriately named Sunset Lounge to take in the postcard-worthy vistas."

Pompano Beach Club, Southampton Parish, Bermuda - Hotel Review | Condé Nast Traveler

"What makes this resort so special? Pompano Beach Club, a family-run Southampton resort, has one of the most unique beachfronts of any resort in Bermuda—one where you’ll likely spend the bulk of your time during your stay, thanks to a massive sand bar located directly off its coastline. At low tide, this is where you can walk nearly 200 yards in knee-to-chest-deep water—which, by the way, is perfectly still and as clear as gin. If you’re lucky, you’ll also spot the fish that give this hotel the other part of its name: blueish-green pompano that call these sand flats home. What's the story behind it? This is the only resort in Bermuda that’s majority-owned by an American family. As the story goes, New Englander Tom Lamb fell in love with Bermuda in the 1950s; he partnered with a Bermudian businessman in 1956 to open what was then a small fishing lodge where guests caught their own dinner. Eventually Lamb bought the hotel outright and expanded it into its current iteration: a sprawling, cliffside property where ocean views abound and intergenerational families embrace its all-inclusive ease. How are the rooms? You won’t be blown away by the room’s basic décor and simple furnishings, but you'll have one of the best ocean views in Bermuda and ample outdoor space, so head to your private balcony and smell the salt air. Since Pompano is on a cliff high above the water, you can look out for miles onto the turquoise Atlantic—make sure you have plenty of storage left in your phone for pics galore. Is there a charge for Wi-Fi? There's free Wi-Fi. Drinking and dining—what are we looking at? Since the room rate also includes breakfast and dinner, it’s likely you’ll be eating onsite for the majority of your stay. But most guests wouldn’t want it any other way, which is why so many folks return to Pompano. Like its rooms, all three restaurants face the ocean; don’t miss dinner at the Ocean Grill, where you’ll be surrounded by three walls of 30-foot-tall floor-to-ceiling windows. How do the staff treat you? Management duties have passed through the Lamb Family tree, many of whom attended the prestigious Cornell Hotel School, ever since this hotel opened in 1956. For them, this is much more than a small resort—it’s their home, and you'll be treated like family. What type of travelers will you find here? Intergenerational families who’ve been visiting Bermuda for years and golfers who’ve come for the proximity to Port Royal Golf Course, just next door. Anything fun to do in the surrounding area? You’ll be on the far west end of Southampton, a 50-minute taxi from the airport and a 35-minute ride into Hamilton. But this is one of the closest hotels to the Royal Naval Dockyard and its family-friendly collection of sites and attractions, so getting to places like the National Museum of Bermuda or the Bermuda Transport Museum will be a breeze. Is there anything you'd change? The rooms could use some TLC in the design department. What have we missed? The main focus of this resort is that gorgeous slice of powdery pink sand and the aforementioned sand bar that extends just beyond it. Explore it by heading straight to the water sports hut where you can rent snorkel gear, glass-bottom kayaks, stand-up paddle boards, and Hobie Cat sailboats. Rather just swim? Make a beeline for the two floating swim platforms, about 100 yards out, where you can relax in absolute seclusion. Bottom line: Worth it? Why? This is one of the few hotels in Bermuda where most meals are included, so if you’re looking for hotel where you won't have to continuously grab your wallet, give this one a whirl." - David LaHuta

We enjoyed our stay at Pompano Beach Club. Our room had a beautiful ocean view and if I turned to the side, Golf course view. It was quiet even with an adjoining room and he had a tranquil stay. No music blasting on the property (just the sound of waves and the nature) made for a peaceful retreat. Initially the hotel seemed a bit away from the main tourist attractions (dockyard. Pink sand beaches, hamilton, etc.), but they were easily reachable by the bus/ferry system which are excellent on the island. The hotel staff (Karen) were able to provide very useful info regarding the island and the public transit. Prompt drop off/pick up near the bus stops were also appreciated. But what made this resort wonderful were the people who work at the property. They tried their very best to make our stay comfortable as possible. Everyone we interacted with was great but I would like to personally thank Makayla, who went above and beyond to accomodate us for our later departure even on a busy day.

We had a fabulous stay at Pompano. We first visited the resort 7 years ago, during a stop in beautiful Bermuda, on a cruise and always wanted to return.|We stayed for 5 nights and enjoyed every minute of our stay, from the warm welcome, fabulous food, amenities, beach and the immaculate, comfortable accommodation. We stayed in a deluxe oceanfront room, which was convenient to everything.|We found all the staff to be very warm and friendly, particular mention to Greg, Lyn, Tayah and Ilene. Also a mention for Stacey, who was very helpful during our booking process.|We will definitely return.

My wife and I had not been to Pompano in 30 years even though we had convinced our daughter to honeymoon there 13 years ago. We are happy to report the place is as beautiful, the food as good (great!), and the overall vibe incredibly chill - which was exactly what we needed. We contemplated taking trips around the island and checking out Hamilton - but we looked at each other and said "Why leave this place??" - so we stayed on the resort the entire week. Bored? - No way! Just the different entertainment each night, the selection of food, and the variety of fish you sea swimming in the inlet were enough to keep us happy! Is it a little dated? maybe a little - but you know what? that adds to the charm! and makes it feel "Bermuda" rather than cookie cutter places that are the same in Aruba as they are in Nassau. If you and your significant other "need a break" and just want to chill - this is the place! The owners are the hardest workers on the resort and they love talking with guests. I'm wondering if I really want to boast as much as I am, because we are definitely going back - and wouldn't want to be crowded out!! - but the management and staff do a wonderful job and they deserve recognition for it. Thank you so much Pompano - for giving me and my wife a break!

Nestled in the hills of Pompano Bay this resort is a picturesque postcard with views of the ocean in every room. The hospitality cannot be surpassed. The owners and staff are outstanding, genuine and caring. They go above and beyond. The resort is quaint, yet grand in nature. The food menu changed nightly at the cedar room. The ocean grill excellent also. Delicious and prepared to perfection every meal was perfect. I highly recommend this wonderful hotel. It is truly special. No wonder people come back year after year. we will return.

We had an incredible experience at Pompano. We've been to Bermuda before but Pompano took it to another level. The staff is incredible - you truly get to know them by the end of your stay. The beach and sandbar are awesome - I would say my favorite on the island probably because how far out you can walk. Food was top notch and there was never an issue accommodating our large group. We really couldn't have had a better stay and will certainly be back.

Everything was amazing when I vacation in Bermuda. The staff were friendly supportive had good insight when it came to activities. They have good knowledge about the island and where to go and gave honest opinions. The meals were amazing and nobody would leave hungry after the meals that were provided. The beach was picture perfect and the beach side bar was an amazing addition and made it super easy when needing a drink at the beach. The view from the main building and from your room was second to none as you looked over the ocean, that was incredible. The weather was amazing during our stay, which is something that is out of everyone’s control, which made the stay even better. I definitely will be back to Pompano Beach club in the future And highly recommend staying at this location when visiting Bermuda.

It's easy to see why the Pompano has so many loyal return visitors—I spoke to one family who has been coming back for 30 years! From the moment you arrive, you feel genuinely welcomed, like they’re truly happy to see you. It’s a refreshing contrast to the more impersonal feel of modern travel.||While there may be more modern accommodations on the island, if you’re looking for a traditional Bermudian experience where you’re treated like family, the Pompano is the place to be. The service is outstanding, the staff is exceptional, and the views are simply breathtaking. With its laid-back, family-friendly vibe, it’s the perfect place to unwind, reconnect, and soak in the beauty of Bermuda. We’re already looking forward to our next visit.||From start to finish, every staff member made us feel like old friends. The owners, Tom and Larry, are involved in every aspect of the day-to-day experience and treat guests with genuine care and warmth. Special shoutouts to George, Greg, and Shirley, who greeted us at every meal with a smile and thoughtful conversation, and to McKayla, whose energy and enthusiasm lit up the room—even at the end of a long shift!||If we had one small critique, it’s that a few areas could benefit from some renovation—but this in no way took away from our incredible stay. The rooms were clean, the beds comfortable, and the location unbeatable.||Thank you, Tom, Larry, and the entire Pompano family, for your hospitality! 🫶🏻🌺
