A History of American Safety and Security

"The third tallest lighthouse in the United States, the Ponce de Leon Inlet Lighthouse has stood guard over Florida’s coast since 1887. In 1835, a lighthouse was constructed on the south side of what was then called Mosquito Inlet (now Ponce de Leon Inlet). However, the lighthouse never received a lamp, and it was weakened by storms and attacks by members of the Seminole tribe during the Second Seminole War. It collapsed in 1836. In 1883, construction began on a new lighthouse at a different spot in the inlet. The construction was overseen by Chief Engineer Orville E. Babcock. Sadly, Babcock and three associates drowned during the construction of the lighthouse. In 1887, the lighthouse was completed. It featured a first order fixed Fresnel lens from France, which could be seen from 20 miles away. On November 1, 1887, the lighthouse’s first keeper lit the lamp for the first time. In 1897, author Stephen Crane, then a journalist covering the uprisings in Cuba, was shipwrecked off the coast of Florida. Along with several other men, he escaped in a small boat. The men used the light from the Ponce de Leon Lighthouse to navigate to shore. In his short story The Open Boat, Crane recounted the incident: “The captain, rearing cautiously in the bow, after the dingy soared on a great swell, said that he had seen the lighthouse at Mosquito Inlet. Presently the cook remarked that he had seen it. The correspondent was at the oars, then, and for some reason he too wished to look at the lighthouse, but his back was toward the far shore and the waves were important, and for some time he could not seize an opportunity to turn his head. But at last there came a wave more gentle than the others, and when at the crest of it he swiftly scoured the western horizon. ‘See it?’ said the captain. ‘No,’ said the correspondent, slowly, ‘I didn’t see anything.’ ‘Look again,’ said the captain. He pointed. ‘It’s exactly in that direction.’ At the top of another wave, the correspondent did as he was bid, and this time his eyes chanced on a small still thing on the edge of the swaying horizon. It was precisely like the point of a pin. It took an anxious eye to find a lighthouse so tiny.” Today, the lighthouse is still in active service. A National Historic Landmark, the lighthouse is now open to the public. The supporting buildings have been beautifully restored and are now operated as a private navigational aid and museum by the Preservation Association. The view from the top is spectacular and features a collection of 1st thru 6th order lenses along with hundreds of related artifacts." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

Free parking just steps away from the gift shop where you can purchase your tickets. Admission to the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse is $6.95 for adults (age 12+), $1.95 for children (ages 3-11), and free for infants (ages 0-2). Note: It was one of the hottest/most humid days of the summer so drink up before you get there and dress appropriately. Went right to the beach after to cool off ;) but it is a lovely way to start your day. Our docent took us to the lighthouse, allowed us to climb the 209+ stairs (she didn’t go with us and I don’t blame her), beautiful breeze and a wonderful view.Take the time to take a few videos and photos. However, Ponce de Leon Inlet Lighthouse & Museum offers much more than a climb—it’s a blend of coastal drama, architectural history, and educational exhibits. Whether climbing to the top for sweeping views or exploring the restored Fresnel lens displays, visitors consistently find it worth the visit, whether or not they’re lighthouse buffs. Friendly staff, well-kept facilities, and budget‑friendly pricing all add to the appeal. What a lovely part of Saturday. Thank you

What a cool place! We took our family here to break up our beach days and it was a perfect little adventure. Our kids enjoyed learning about lighthouses and the history of this lighthouse as there was plenty of fun information for both kids and adults here. As others have mentioned, the view at the top is awesome. It was very windy and I almost lost my heart so just be aware of that. We probably spent a total of almost 2 hours here. The staff was very friendly and the send guided your was great.

Worth the Climb! Climbing to the top of the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse was tough but so rewarding. The views of the ocean and waterways stretching out forever were breathtaking, and the breeze at the top felt incredible. Inside, the museum’s old lighthouse lenses were fascinating, and the Pacetti Hotel Museum gave us a glimpse of the area’s history. It’s a great mix of adventure and learning, and my teens loved it too.

Google
Great lighthouse, and the views are spectacular if you make the climb to the top. It's only 203 stair steps and it really is not a bad climb. There's plenty of platforms if you need a break. The only challenge is passing other people coming up or down as the stairs are a bit narrow. The museum and historical buildings are interesting and a all of the history makes for an interesting read. Worth a stop to check out of your in the area. Plan to take a couple of hours to get through everything.

Google
I have been twice to this lighthouse. It is the tallest in the state of Florida, and second largest in the US. The grounds are kept immaculate, there are plenty of sights to see on the grounds and spend a good few hours there. The history is well preserved, showcased and well written. There are no food or drinks allowed once inside the premises, however you can step back to your vehicle for a sip if needed. They have a fantastic gift shop as well. If you're in the area, it's certainly worth it.

Google
Ponce Inlet is a hidden gem on the coast and an absolute must-see! The lighthouse is stunning, and the climb up the stairs is an adventure in itself—definitely a bit of a workout, but completely worth it for the breathtaking 360° views at the top. You might even feel a little vertigo looking down, but that just adds to the thrill. It’s the perfect spot for amazing photos and unforgettable memories. A nice bonus is that they offer military discounts, which I really appreciate. Just be sure to check their hours before you go so you don’t miss out. Whether you’re a local or visiting the area, Ponce Inlet is one of those places you won’t forget. Also, make it a whileday visit, stay at the beach, kayack to the dissapearing island or eat at one of the restaurants there.

💍 Forever Starts Here — A Special Engagement at Ponce Inlet 💫 The Ponce de Leon Inlet Lighthouse & Museum is officially one of the most meaningful places in my life now — it’s where I got engaged! 🥹💖 We didn’t get engaged at the very top of the lighthouse, but honestly… we didn’t need to. The whole place has this romantic, timeless energy. From the charming historic buildings to the peaceful breeze off the water, every part of the experience felt intimate and full of love. We explored the museum, climbed the lighthouse, soaked in the views — and then, somewhere in the midst of all that beauty and history… he asked. And I said yes. ❤️ If you’re ever near Daytona or Ponce Inlet, do not skip this stop. Whether you’re into history, scenic views, or just want a quiet, beautiful place to reflect, this place is a gem. It’ll always be part of our love story now — and I wouldn’t have it any other way. A perfect day, a perfect place, and a moment we’ll never forget.

This is a beautiful place to visit. We didn't have time to go thru it all but I wish we had. I love seeing historical places and learning about the past. I highly recommend making this one of your stops! If you are like me, you can also add the stamp to your passport book for national historic sites

Yelp
This is such a great place to visit if you are into history and lighthouses. We are so we enjoyed ourselves. We went on the 4th of July and they had volunteers dressed in period costumes in several of the buildings to answer questions. I have to say, that was a great touch. We enjoyed talking to them and having docents adds so much to the tour. We did not climb to the top of the lighthouse because quite honestly we are both a little afraid of heights and when we went to the St. Augustine lighthouse a couple years ago I was super nervous and this lighthouse is taller! The coolest thing about this place is the light and lens building. There you can see several fresnel lenses of all sizes and some are rotating. We also paid for the Pacetti Hotel tour, which is across the street. It was also very cool. I would recommend doing both if you go because it is a very affordable and cool tour.

Yelp
**INITIAL REVIEW** The Ponce de Leon Inlet Lighthouse and Museum (which i will abbreviate to PLI Lighthouse for the remainder of this review) has been on my "to visit" list for some time after becoming a member of the United States Lighthouse Society (USLHS). Eventually, I was able to plan and partake on this little weekend adventure, and my friend Paula tagged along for the fun. Given the fact I am a member of the USLHS, this visit was definitely worth my while. But what about everyone else? For the price of $6 and what you can do and observe within the museum, I would say this is definitely worth it. I will even say with the added $5 to tour the Historic Pacetti Hotel Museum which is literally right across the street, it is even worth more because the history and lore is just amazing. Though an address is given, I will simply say that Ponce de Leon Inlet Lighthouse and Museum is at the dead end of... well... Ponce de Leon Inlet. Take note to get there, you'll need to drive to Port Orange, head eastwardly towards Wilbur-by-the-Sea, then head south to the inlet. And to leave, you have to go back the way you came. Take that into account during your trip. PLI Lighthouse consists of the main entrance and gift shop, numerous buildings and houses around the lighthouse, and the lighthouse itself. The gift shop has plenty of goods and wares to check out and enjoy pertaining to the lighthouse, its history, and area. The other houses around feature history of the locale including how the lighthouse operated through its time. Then there is the lighthouse itself. The staff and notes on the official website require patrons wanting to walk the lighthouse to wear shoes and be fit for the walk. Take note the scale up the lighthouse is 175 feet, 203 steps upward. But once you get to the gallery level, directly below the lantern room, you get fantastic views of the area around Ponce de Leon Inlet, excellent for photos and videos. Across the street is the Pancetti Hotel Museum in which Paula and I took a tour of the hotel and its history. We learned so much about how important the hotel was in the time including during NASCAR races and in MLB. Without spoiling much, as I would love you all to at least check out the PLI Lighthouse and surrounding museums at least once, there is much to learn and much to do which can be done in a single day. As for ADA accessibility, the museum can only do so much without destroying history. For example, it would be detrimental to the integrity of the structure of the lighthouse and museum to install a wheelchair lift. That's just the reality of things. Ergo, they don't have one. But the museum tries to accomodate them with displays on ground level, like the lantern room displays, for ecample. Given this visit is considered a one-and-done, and all else taken into account, I will give the PLI Lighthouse and Museum (along with the Pancetti Hotel Museum) a five out of five stars. By all means, it is not perfect, but everything they do and have and the fact in can be done in one visit if given the time, Yelp Elite's kiss! The only way I see driving down to Ponce de Leon Inlet, in general, to be a more-than-once visit for the tourist and explorer is because of the Marine Science Center, Ponce de Leon Inlet Beach, and Lighthouse Point Park. P.S. - The restrooms were cleaned and stocked and there is one letterbox on premesis. No geocaches though..

Yelp
Today we drove south from our hotel down to Ponce Inlet to the Ponce de Leon Lighthouse! We enjoyed climbing to the top. It is taller than St Augustine Lighthouse but few stairs only 203! Inside the stairs are extremely narrow and only one Bannister so due to Kayla Beth Fields weak legs and hips she was not comfortable Climbing this one safely! But, Deacon, Saige and I climbed on up to the top with Saige conquering her fears of height. We had a great time and enjoyed our climb up! Definitely recommend for you to enjoy this if in the area! $6.95 per adult, $5.95 for Seniors and only $1.95 for kids! For extra $1.25 you can get a certificate saying you made that climb! Definitely Budget Friendly with loads of history and outbuildings to explore. There is a 15 minute looping film on the Lighthouse history!

Yelp
I enjoyed my trip to this lighthouse! It was a fun trek up to the top - but be warned it can get very hot and tight up there! They don't allow plastic water bottles on the property so maybe consider brining your own canteen. Other than the lighthouse, you can leisurely walk the grounds and see some historical sights and findings. (If you ever had to do the colonial experience back in elementary school where you visited a school house, churned butter, etc, it's that exact vibe) I'm giving 4 stars for how well preserved everything is and how much heart you can tell went into everything, despite the lighthouse being the best/most entertaining part.

Yelp
Ponce De Leon Light House 2-27-25 I love Light Houses and this one did not disappoint. It is the tallest light house in Florida and is still lit to this day. There is a large gift shop and museums in the outbuildings on the grounds. There is a lot of history going on this property. If you can climb the 203 stairs, you can purchase tickets to go up to the top of the Light House. This is a must-see Light House. I give it 5 out of 5 stars for all the History, upkeep of the buildings and Light house plus the great gift shop. Follow Me On FB For More Reviews Gulf Coast Terry

Yelp
In the Daytona Beach, FL area for a week with friends from church and exploring the area. Ponce Lighthouse looked interesting, so we drove down. Good idea! We had a wonderful time visiting the Park and buildings and getting a glance at how live was so different for the early Lighthouse keepers. The Lighthouse was magnificent. The bulb for light was gigantic - talk about how many people it takes to change a light! Lots of historical buildings to stroll around and see. Plenty of descriptive stories about the history there. I loved the story about Jingles the dog. Even a glass enclosed ancient toilet. I just had to take pics of the old, gnarled tree in the park. When I saw it my mind immediately went back to the Bernstain Bears story of the Spooky Old Tree I read to my kids and grandkids. It's a lovely place to visit and leisurely look around. And a great seafood restaurant right across the street. Parking is a bit tight at the Museum, we had to park our car across the park where they was ample parking. Just a 5 minute walk, so not bad.

Yelp
Family friendly destination to learn and explore. If you're in the area looking for something to do for a few hours, you can climb to the top of the tallest lighthouse in the state and enjoy a great view. After climbing back down you can learn about lighthouse history and the life of a lighthouse operator. Not a bad activity on a rainy day. Probably a lot less crowded but not a best views.

Yelp
Loved visiting this lighthouse!! It's so cool learning all the history of the lighthouse, its keepers and its role over the years. You buy your tickets in the gift shop they have a bunch of cute souvenirs and then can do a self guided tour around the museums. I love history and the view from the top of the lighthouse was gorgeous and super windy!!

Yelp
Fantastic history, and just a really cool location in Ponce inlet. Definitely a lot to see and a lot to learn about. The history of Florida natives was the most fascinating.

Yelp
A historical stop along the East Atlantic coast. The place is well kept and clean. Not that expensive, for 6$ per person is a good deal.

Yelp
It has Ample parking, the price was reasonable for what it was. There were several buildings to explore and a plethora of information in a fun way to obtain it. The grounds are neat, clean and easy to navigate. I would recommend this museum to couples and children of all ages. The staff members were all kind, courteous, and professional.

Yelp
I was stationed in the USCG here years ago and it was really nice to take my son and climb up there and point all the lands marks and tell him stories from that time. The museum and lighthouse looked identical to 15 years ago, they do an amazing job preserving and maintaining the history and integrity of the site. After climbing f to the top I was reminded that I'm not in that CG shape anymore but the lack of crowd made it easy to take breaks and not feel rushed up and down.

Yelp
Perfect for a quick little adventure - reasonably priced ($7) and very interesting, with its own free parking area. The complex consists of multiple buildings, one of which shows a short movie on the history of the lighthouse. Other buildings you just peer in the windows to see where the lighthouse keeper lived, the pump house, etc. The pièce de résistance of course, is the actual lighthouse. It is 175 ft tall, and you can take internal stairs almost all the way to the top. The lighthouse is no longer manned by a person, so they have the very top with the beacon glassed off. To get to the top, you have to climb 203 spiral steps. Phew! Fortunately there are places along the way to stop and take a breather. TIP 1: No matter how good of shape you're in, you will feel this in your calves the next day! Once at the top, there is a railed in circular walkway to take in the different views and scenery. TIP 2: Going down is way easier than going up. :-) The other building that's very interesting is the one where they keep past lights for the lighthouse. The old beacons are beautiful, and it's interesting to read about them. When you finish, there is a great gift shop to wander around in. All in all, a fun way to spend a couple of hours.

Yelp
The Ponce inlet lighthouse is a informative fun little day activity fun for ALL AGES ! I've lived in the area for about 4 years and never visited until this week :) FUN FACTS: 203 STEPS Tallest Lighthouse in Florida Second tallest in the world Please visit when it's good weather, not too sunny with definitely a little cloudy hopefully with a breeze. I went on the most perfect afternoon, wasn't too hot & when i got to the top it was AN AMAZING BREEZE! As you go up the stairs there's about 5/6 small stations with a brief story of the construction process!
google avatar

Yelp
This is a a great visit. The buildings and grounds are very well preserved and maintained. The information regarding the history the lighthouse and the people who managed the site is very interesting. The view from the top of the lighthouse is spectacular.

Yelp
I loved my visit here!!!! We first went to the small building that had a movie which told the history of the lighthouse. Super informative and interesting. Next we visited several homes which had lots of interesting items to read and artifacts to view. Next stop was my trek to the top of the lighthouse. The interior is well maintained and I felt totally comfortable walking up the stairs. There are landings every so often so if you need to rest or others are coming by, you can stop. The views from the top are incredible! You can see so far in every direction. You feel very safe as it's all caged in. It was very windy on my trek, but it didn't stop me from enjoying the views. Going back down was equally as easy. We did the nature walk which was kind of a waste, and you were walking through sand. Next stop was the generator building and then the building that held the lights for the lighthouse. Fascinating reading and lights. There is a nice gift shop, but I am not a shopper. Definitely a must do when visiting Daytona Beach.

Yelp
Florida is known for some of the best history in the US and the Ponce de Leon inlet lighthouse is a great place to go to to get some history lessons in and to get a nice view. This is the Largest Lighthouse in FL! First stop was the gift shop to get our tickets and I'll tell you as they told me do the lighthouse first then visit the houses because you will be tired after those steps, took a couple photos and we were on our way up. It's hot inside not much ventilation until you get outside. they're places to stop on the stairs while people are coming down just make sure not to look down lol. After climbing 203 steps with a 30lb baby on my hip we got a beautiful view of the beach and landscape around It was gorgeous the breeze was perfect... but the walk down was slower than the walk up.. would I do it again probably but on a cooler day!

Pauly Z.

Yelp
Best gift shop. Friendly staff. Great views from the top of the lighthouse. Not recommended for small children as it's very historically themed. You'll learn a lot. Lens house is very nice.

Yelp
We came here on a Wednesday afternoon April 2022. The weather was beautiful and we bought a ticket to go to the top of the lighthouse. Ticket per person is around $7. There are a couple of little museums on the grounds that you can look at and go inside. There are 203 steps to the top of the lighthouse once you get to the top you can go out on the balcony and walk around the whole thing, nice views! At the top of the stairs they get a little steeper so be prepared but most people can do it with no problem. I love the view at the top and it was so peaceful I didn't want to come down! We checked out all the other little museums and the little movie as well. They have a great gift shop and the staff was happy and friendly. There's a restaurant right near there within walking distance if you get hungry. This is a beautiful area of Daytona Beach shores I must see if you are in town. Free parking.

Yelp
This review is for back in October 2023. The museum and the lighthouse is a nice place to visit. The location is in a nice part of town. We parked in a small parking lot of the entrance gate. From the parking lot, we walked on the path leading to a small building. When we went inside the building it was a small gift shop. Browsing through the gift shop, we wanted to head outside to see the lighthouse but we were stopped by the lady who was the cashier of the gift shop. She said that we cannot go outside unless we purchase tickets. We asked the cashier how much is the ticket because there are no signs inside the shop. We bought the tickets ($6.95 per adult) and we also gave a donation too. It's a fun experience walking up to the top of the lighthouse. It was a little over 200 steps on a spiral staircase. It was tiring but worth it. Walking down was a lot easier. The lady cashier was not friendly at all. She gave us a stern and serious stare. She did not say thank you to us or anything. The other employees inside the gift shop were not friendly either. Because of the customer service, I knocked down 2 stars.

Yelp
Beautiful Park, Museum, and lighthouse First visit here and we had a really nice time. There's several buildings on the grounds, but our focus was on the lighthouse itself. There are 203 steps and the effort is worth the view. You can see the ocean, the inlet jetty, and surrounding areas. I think it's a great a lot and we'll worth the time to check it out. Pricing is reasonable at less than $8 per person.
google avatar

Yelp
What an amazing lighthouse.. full of history! We try to go to see lighthouses when we stay close by and this one was really cool.. you have to climb 203 steps in spiral staircase, no open windows and it's hot out! Hubby went up I got dizzy just looking up at it ! Lots of facts about lighthouse and the lighthouse keepers. We got to see their living areas and the different lights were housed in a building..it was only 6.95 to do a self guided tour plus there's a nice sized gift shop. They told us this lighthouse is not maintained by any govt not state or federal.. no grants just money from donations and admission prices. It's privately owned open to public.. great staff and really well maintained grounds. There was even a spot they had for handmade boats that Cubans took to get here. Just a cool place that doesn't cost a lot and great way spend the day
google avatar

Yelp
This is one of my favorite lighthouses in Florida. It is the tallest lighthouse in Florida. It's an accomplishment to climb to the top. The view from the top is incredible. You can see the disappearing island nearby. The gift shop is amazing I could spend hours looking at all of the fun items here. The out buildings are fun to explore too. There is a building of fresnel lenses.
google avatar

Yelp
Beautiful park to visit with the family . Natural historical park to take the family. The climb is not for the unfit at heart , it's 206 steps to the top. You can rest between flights and it's worth the view. Nice gift shop and facility to tour of the olden days . Park fee is reasonable and veterans get a discount.

Yelp
This place is a must see while in Daytona beach! The restaurant also had AMAZING food! I got the green tomato BLT and it was cooked to perfection! There is AC in all the building so you can take a break from the heat. Unfortunately my son was to scared to walk the spiral stair case so we didn't get to see the top, BUT the parts we did see and history we learned about the lighthouse was well worth the experience. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Lana E.

Yelp
Beautiful, historic spot that is worth the visit! Grounds are kept clean and neat with a cute gift shop up at the front. Spend some time with the family and friends and take a trip up the lighthouse for some amazing views. Lots of educational reading and artifacts incorporated in the small houses laid out on the property. My favorite part was the area that housed the huge light fixtures that went inside the lighthouse. Amazing! Side note: If you are claustrophobic and/or afraid of heights, you may not like the walk up the lighthouse.
google avatar

Molly M.

Yelp
Free parking with a nice small park near it. Cute shop where you buy your ticket ($7) . I chose not to go into the lighthouse so I walked through the park end enjoyed the view from the ground. My 3 friends did go to the top of the lighthouse & enjoyed the view from there.

Deshika B.

Yelp
This is my 2nd time here, but the first time I truly enjoyed it. When I came a few years ago, I was severely overweight and the climbed to the top took the wind out of me. This time, we scaled the lighthouse relatively quickly. I absolutely moved the fact that the location was set up to observe social distancing guidelines with sanitation stations, all employees wearing masks, and no one being able to enter without these measures being followed. On every landing of the light house, there was a plastic screen that you could stop behind when someone passed us. We were also able to tour the entire property without huge crowds and in relative peace. It did suck that the video and audio areas were not open (for obvious reasons), but it did not take away from the experience. It was a beautiful, windy day and the views from the top of the lighthouse were absolutely perfect!

Yelp
I love the idea of lighthouses and am always excited to see a new one. However, I have realized that during the trek up I don't always have that warm fuzzy feeling. Also I am scare of heights. So why do I continue to visit lighthouses? Not only do I like to push myself but the view is AMAZING. Each lighthouse is different and unique. The Ponce De Leon Inlet Lighthouse is the closest one to the Orlando area. Fun fact that I learned while I was there - this lighthouse is the tallest in Florida. The grounds are beautifully kept. I was in town with my parents and my fiance and we decided to not only get a bit of exercise in but get some history in as well. If you are in the area I highly recommend stopping at the Lighthouse. If you live in the area and haven't already been here, shame on you. Support local.

Yelp
A calm place to relax, meditate, put things in perspective and focus on your goals. The lighthouse is beautiful and symbolic as well as the memorial honoring our veterans.

Yelp
Great activity for people of all ages. Explore the museum and walk 203 steps up to the lighthouse and enjoy the view. Admission was inexpensive at $6.95 per person. Staff in the gift shop were very friendly and informative about the history of the lighthouse. Gift shop is very nice with plenty of souvenirs or t-shirts to choose from and at a great price too.

Yelp
A pretty place to visit when you are tired of baking on the beach or by the pool. We did NOT walk up to the top - it was in the 90's and wildly humid... that seemed like certain death. But if you're very hardy (or not from the south and not familiar with what heat stroke feels like), I'm sure the view is great. The little park surrounding the lighthouse was nice to walk around and the views of the water are also pretty. We didn't spend a ton of time here, but it's a pretty drive to the site and nice to walk around once you arrive. Recommend for a way to break up your afternoon. Also, make sure to check out the pocket Veteran's park on-site. It's lovely and very moving.

Yelp
It seem cool, but I want to say the price seemed a little high. I think what I was looking at word for special event pricing. Anyway, we wanted to try it but we were a little tight on time and the beach was priority. We thought it was just the lighthouse but it's a few other buildings so it will take a little bit of time anyway we took pictures of the lighthouse and that's about it. Seem very interesting and we're definitely gonna go back. The grounds very very well-kept and clean. Private parking lot.... Looks like it had a small a gift shop also.

Yelp
I have never been to a lighthouse until we our visit to Daytona Beach Shores. There are so many stairs and so little room on the stairs to get to the top unless you are daring which I am not always. On your way up and down you will find stories of the lighthouse which can help you forget the climb. What a view it is once you get to the top I have heard:) There is a lot of history shared including the history of women and minorities which was of much interest to me because I am both. I did not know how much of a role that all types of ethnicities and genders have paid and how their lives were like while helping keep the lighthouse. There is another building with the technology piece that is of interest to some. Don't forget the gift shop with some interesting things for everyone. What a great place to stop when in the area.

Yelp
This was a nice stop with the family found on the inlet between New Smyrna Beach and Daytona Beach Shores. The inlet separates this area from NSB so you need to get there from the Daytona area. There is a private parking lot that has free parking. An adults admission bracelet was $6.95 and kids were $1.95 (2-11) and younger children were free. There are a lot of steps up to the top of the Lighthouse that give panoramic views on all sides that are spectacular. There is a Veterans Memorial, video room, museum, gift shop, and restrooms on the property. If you are in the area, I would recommend stopping by.

Yelp
On our way to St. Augustine we decidded to make a quick stop in Daytone to visit Ponce de Leon Lighthouse. I am glad we did. It is so quiant and tranquil. We are cultural vacationers and try to visit museums, zoos, landmarks ect. when we travel. We knew this would be the only time we'd be able to visit here. I loved it. It is well mantained, and you are free to walk the grounds at your leasure. Besides the lighthouse itself, there is a small museum where you can see actual lenses and other items related to the lighthouse and read up on some of it's history. There is also a gift shop, which is really cool and not expensive. Overall a great place. I loved it!

Yelp
Well taken care of , this is definitely more of a tourist stop . Cute gift shop lots of stuff to pick from. I do not recommend climbing if you have a fear of small spaces as the stairs are kinda small . All round a great experience while on vacation.

Yelp
On a recent visit with out-of-town family, the Lighthouse, Museum, and Gift Shop were all wonderful to peruse. I definitely want to return; however, I was disappointed to hear the gift shop employees complaining about having to deal with the public. One lady said she wanted to get an office job so she could get away from people. Then, each time we made a purchase, the cashier seemed annoyed that she had to stop and help us. I totally understand that there are plenty of rude customers and it can get frustrating, but to openly complain about customers while there are customers shopping nearby is very unprofessional. If I had been there with my husband, we likely would have turned around and left without spending a dime.

Yelp
This is a beautiful lighthouse it was closed but we still got some great pictures. Built in 1887 and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1998..Opened all year at Ponce de Leon Inlet 203 steps and stands 175 feet. While at our hotel I could see the light flickering 10 miles away. They open at 10 AM every day.

Yelp
One of our favorite spots to visit anywhere. Such a friendly staff and such a well maintained and informative place. We have a yearly membership and have purchased several memorial bricks on the pathway. My four year old son climbed to the top of the lighthouse for his first time this year, great memory. Would advise anyone to go and check it out, make the climb, its a spectacular view of the area!

Yelp
We love lighthouses, because it's where a lighthouse is where I proposed to my wife, those short 9 years ago. So they are fun to visit, this one we enjoyed a lot because it's much more then just going up a lighthouse, which is amazing in itself, because you always have an incredible view, am I right? So you have 207 stairs to climb to get that Atlantic Ocean, intercostal water way view, which is breathtaking, you can get to see the light house lens. During the climb up and down it's always fun to have some family challenges and joke each other, we were having fun encouraging each other and the others who were making the trek. Along the climb there are stories of the lighthouse and interesting facts as well. After the climb up and down, then you can tour the grounds and the lighthouse keepers houses which they have kept up nicely, it was really cool to learn about what the grounds were used for, who use to live in these houses and what life was like for lighthouse keepers and their family and children, very interesting stories. Then there is another building with the technology that was used for lighthouses and how the military has used them in the passed, all very very interesting. We found a nice little trail and went for a walk back in the woods and our boys enjoying running around. There is also a film that we didn't get to watch, but I wish we did. You will find all the info on the lighthouse, light house living and military usage all of interest, I would give yourself 3 hours max, that is if you look and read everything. We spent with 3 little boys 6 and under a good 2 hours there and would have stayed longer if the grounds weren't getting ready to close. There is also a very nice gift shop with things for everyone. This landmark is a great testimony to a community wanting to keep it's h history and improve on something that had gone into despair. The Ponce Inlet community has worked hard to keep it's heritage strong and it's very impressive what they have done to maintain and improve the experience the guest that come get to have. You will be glad you you choose this landmark as a destination for and family and friends. Enjoy!!

Yelp
This lighthouse is a fantastic way to accomplish multiple facets of positivity in one shot. You will experience history, get exercise by climbing to top, get a beautiful 360 degree view of the inlet area for fantastic pictures , and have access to a very nice gift shop. The staff are also very welcoming and it it next door to the turtle sanctuary and aquarium. This is a must see for all ages.

Yelp
I enjoyed this museum, never knew it existed until I happened to look it up. I enjoyed walking around looking at everything. But that lighthouse!!! I felt my age going up, I thought I heard every bone in my body creak.. I wasn't the only one having issues so I didn't feel so bad. But the view from up top...Spectacular!!
