Pongwe Beach Hotel

We spent 6 days of our honeymoon at Pongwe and it was an absolute dream! The staff were so intentional, personable and welcoming. We felt part of Pongwe. This is by far one of the best hotel experiences we have experienced. The facilities are well taken care of, the beach is clean! The area is calm and quiet. The food? Consistently amazing! The management and ownership is doing a fantastic job with Pongwe. We cannot wait to come back as Pongwe now holds such a special place in our heart. My partner and I have just returned from our second holiday to Pongwe Beach Hotel, celebrating our anniversary. ||The hotel itself has a personal boutique feel with a quiet private beach. It is very relaxed, there is also an infinity pool. We were spoilt for choice when it came to swimming, there were also Kayaks and Paddleboards to use.||Our stunning room was quite large and private with a lovely terrace, plunge pool and view of the sea. As a gardening enthusiast I appreciated the landscaping of the gardens as this encourages biodiversity and privacy. We were delighted to see bush babies, we were given a banana to feed them. We also saw a rare sight of a Colobus Monkey swinging from the trees.||The Island has the most stunning coastline and the Indian ocean is very warm and welcoming. ||We visited a Spice Farm on the way to Stone Town, this was very informative, we tried some of the local jackfruit and coconuts. Afterwards we visited Stone Town and hired a guide to show us around and explain the history of the area and help us buy a few local souvenirs. This was all kindly arranged via Pongwe Beach hotel including a driver.||The staff were very helpful and polite, the breakfasts were delicious, a different special everyday. There was a variety of food choices including the menu of the day and cocktail of the day. The evening entertainment was enjoyable, local music and dancing in which we were all included. The ambiance of the area was very calming and relaxed. ||I feel fully recharged and hope to revisit this wonderful slice of paradise in the not too distant future.||Bye Bye Pongwe for now ;-)

Thank you so much for eight wonderful nights! We truly managed to relax and enjoy the sun, warmth, and beach life with you after our safari in Kenya. The place is beautiful, and we will never forget Pongwe.||The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The food was excellent and varied! We can truly recommend this place. Peaceful and quiet ☺️

We stayed here as a family for Christmas in 2010 and have longed to return ever since. We returned as a couple this time hoping that it hadn’t changed and still remained as we remembered it. It didn’t disappoint!! From the moment we entered the reception area and were greeted by the lovely staff we instantly knew that returning here had been the right decision. Pongwe Beach hotel remains my favourite ❤️ ||The best part? The staff…. Kenny, Victor, Jasmine, Irene, Mudi ❤️ the whole team at Pongwe put in so much effort to make your experience special. Location is perfect with private beach which is white powdery sand, sun beds and hammocks provided. Dinner on the beach was special. Food was excellent Rooms are spacious and loved the toiletries. I want to return again and again!!||Thankyou to the team for making this so special.

The hotel is perfect for a post safari stay. Staff were warm and friendly and service excellent. The food was good and varied. We had a room with a plunge pool which was excellent. The manageress was very present and always happy to help.

Location is slightly far from everything, but you get to enjoy the private pristine white beach which was a bonus. Be aware there are few beach boys who will try to promote their packages, which the safety of those packages is uncertain. Better book from a reputable travel agency if you are looking for a day tour or snorkeling. The room itself was comfortable, but there was bird poop on the balcony sunbed when we returned from snorkeling. Nothing much to do at the hotel itself as there were limited activities available. The only entertainment was the cultural dance and it was great though. Breakfast was awesome, our only dissatisfaction was the lack of room service. We understand BBQ dinner will be served at the restaurant, yet not everyone loves BBQ. Consider the hotel location is far from other restaurants, they should offer more dining options including room service. We were exhausted from a day tour and wish to have a quiet dinner in our room but the room service request was rudely rejected. Even if we volunteered to collect the food from the restaurant and return the plates ourselves and they would still charge you extra $50. The lady staff at the restaurant showed impatience attitude and did not bother to serve you. Until we lodged a complaint then they were willing to send the food to our room. Honestly speaking, dinner was mediocre with tiny portion size. It did not worth the price we paid and we felt totally ripped off.

We settled on Pongwe Beach after doing a lot of research in the months leading up to our trip. We wanted something with a boutique and personal feel but also with a beautiful beach and pool area, to celebrate my 50th. Pongwe exceeded our expectations- from the minute we arrived until our departure date. ||The staff were exceptional- special mention to Moodi, Jasmine, Kenny and Irene- who always greeted us warmly and went out of their way to make every meal and experience special. Moodi and Jasmine prepared a special 50th birthday celebration for me, on the beach, where we ordered the seafood platter. Absolutely delicious, as was every single meal we ate in the restaurant. ||Our bedroom was a cliff room with private pool and was simply stunning. We were a few steps from the beach and loungers, where we watched the sunrise every morning. ||We would not hesitate returning to Pongwe Beach or recommending it to others looking to visit Zanzibar.

We just spent 10 days here for our honeymoon and I am already dreaming of going back. The beach is perfect - private, beautiful and incredible sea. The main pool was a bit busy because of half term holidays but we were lucky enough to have our own mini pool with the sea view room, which was an incredible touch. One of our favourite things were the food and drinks! Every single meal blew us away - hats off to the chefs. The staff were so friendly and fun, and we loved evening entertainment with local musicians. We also had so much fun on our excursions - swimming with dolphins, turtles and snorkelling.
