I remember it very clearly. Years ago, one day while I was walking here, a young man with curly hair, dressed in white, came under this bridge carrying a jar with a rat inside. He was just about to throw the jar into the Seine when he suddenly started talking to the rat. He seemed a little angry and confused. Then he sat down by the river and placed the jar beside him.
After talking for a while, he suddenly looked startled and said to the rat, “Can you understand me?” He looked as if he had lost his mind. Poor thing—he believed the rat could understand him. Then he accidentally dropped the jar into the river, and immediately afterward, he jumped in himself.
Thinking he was insane, I didn’t linger any longer and walked away. What he’s doing now, I have no idea.
