Pontcysyllte Aqueduct

Lovely circular woodland/canal walk started at Ty Mawr Country park, near Viaduct. Carpark & playground £1 car park all day. Pubs either side of Aquaduct & a coffee Narrow boat on route. Spectacular views, highly recommend

A masterpiece both an engineering wonder and a stunning scenic spot. Walking across it was such a thrilling experience, with incredible views over the Dee Valley. The height and the narrow canal path make it feel adventurous, yet peaceful at the same time. The surroundings are lovely for a quiet walk or a picnic, and there are a few nice cafés and pubs nearby for a stop afterwards. It’s amazing to think it’s been standing for over 200 years and still functions perfectly. Definitely worth a visit if you love nature, history, or just a bit of adventure

We came here on Monday 5th January 2026 and it was incredibly quiet and snowy. It's free to enter however you have to pay for parking which is £3.70 via the PaybyPhone app. There are tickets machine however one was cash only and the other one which could take card was broken. It's a good experience and very interesting, however I wouldn't recommend going at busy times as that path is small.

This is over 200 years old viaduct over the River Dee. You can paddle or walk over it. For safety reasons paddle boarders have to push board with the paddle while walking instead is stand up paddling. View from the viaduct is breathtaking. In good conditions you can for many miles. There is a car park nearby in Trevor.

A must visit world heritage site in Wrexham, Wales with an elaborate history. We did the canal ride on the Aqueduct and it was a lovely experience with beautiful views. On a sunny day, the views would be even more spectacular 🌉

Latest of many visits to the area. Signed up for canoe trip across the Aqueduct with Ty Nant Adventure. Well organised experience with a great instructor. Scenery was great with the autumn colours to be seen all around. Fantastic breakfast in the Old Chapel tearoom.

What a beautiful aqueduct! Andrew really wanted to see this on our drive from Edinburgh to Cardiff so we found a nearby hotel and stopped for one night to see this in the morning and I am so glad we did! I was not excited to see it and it was well worth the stop! There is a small shop for a soda and souvenirs and to rent boats but they are not very helpful, we had some questions but they were to busy to be bothered. The aqueduct is fascinating and watching the boats cross if fun. There are several paths and you can hike down to get a view from the bottom as well as cross at the top. It is high and scary! But awesome! There is a car park and signs with information and the trail is moderate. We went right in the morning and the sun coming up was beautiful around the aqueduct. We stayed nearby in Llangollen and it was only a 15 minute drive.
