A beautiful winery. We had the best tasting there, Mitch guided us through the wonderful wines produced there with great knowledge. We then sat outside and had one of the pizzas on offer. The chef on the day was very friendly and helped out as we had to switch tables due to a quick burst of rain. All the staff here are lovely and it’s a great experience if you’re in Hobart or Tasmania. One not to miss.

My friend and I came in for a tasting at lunchtime on a weekday (12/11/25) in the Cellar Door. Firstly the entire venue is gorgeous. Beautiful views, plenty of tables outside and well decorated inside. The art was fun to look at. At $15 for 6 wines you truly can’t go wrong. They were all delicious — I only liked one slightly less (the rosé) but really, all were delightful. The young man who did our tasting was absolutely wonderful. Wine tastings can be awkward sometimes depending on who you get but he was friendly, knowledgeable and happy to engage. We enjoyed hearing about the wines from him and he seemed to genuinely enjoy his job. My one and only piece of feedback would be to please play some soft background music. It was dead silent in the cellar door and made trying to catch up with a friend interesting. Though, after some wine it didn’t bother us too much. My parents will be visiting from interstate soon and after trying other wineries in the area, I will definitely be bringing them here. Thank you for a great experience and I’m looking forward to returning.

Perfect day. Found it a little challenging getting a park but that is because it is a very charming spot. The service was fantastic, all staff were amazing very natural and accomodating. The food was lovely had two pizzas and the cheese board. In the wine tasting the woman was informative and friendly. Adjusted her pitch to our bogan personalities. It was my son’s first sample of wine and was a great introduction into the subtleties of flavours and what makes a great drop. We left with a bottle of wine. Thanks for a great day

The wine tasting experience was challenging however I do love this winery. We booked 1st thing in the morning for the Single Vineyard Tasting around $20 per person. We were first to arrive - we booked tasting early in the morning. We were sat at the counter top area (like sitting at a bar) no issue with that. Then another couple came for tasting they were sat almost right next to us. We had 2 staff members talking at the same time to each group of 2 people. It was really hard to concentrate on the wine/tasting experience. Then the cellar filled with the smell of smoke from the Pizza oven being lit. This made it very difficult to smell the wine we were tasting. Of all the wineries we did in the Coal Valley Area - this tasting was the most disappointing. But I do apportion the blame to myself I should have spoke up and asked to either move away from the counter and be seated somewhere quieter as the rest of the cellar was completely empty. Or alternatively I could have asked if just one of the staff could speak to both groups. On a positive note I would give the restaurant Pizza's etc 5 stars we did come the day before and tried the food and a glass of the wine. I love that you can buy wine by the glass. The staff are lovely, nice friendly and efficient and the grounds are good. The pizzas are about $18 and we brought 2 - the serves are more individual size which reflects cost. I loved the size of the pizza it means you can sample more than one style. Seriously this is a great winery with lovely outlook and well priced pizzas. The reason we came back was you needed to book tastings hence why we re-attended the following morning. Again that was our oversight. Rooky error.

Stunning vineyard, perfect for Saturday lunch with your love one. I love the style of the restaurant, wine tasting room and lay out of the bar and kitchen. Very country style and it complimented the gorgeous scenery and warm weather on the day we visited. I also loved the wood fired oven. Very rustic look. The food and drinks were delicious. Fresh oysters and tasty spread of cold meats, marinated olives and cucumber and duck pate. My only feedback for consideration are as follows: 1. Not everyone drinks alcohol because of health issues. It would be good if the bar includes mocktails. There are amazing produce and recipes for delicious mocktails. Majority of prominent wineries and restaurants nowadays that serves food (apart from just wines) also serves mocktails and other authentic non alcoholic drinks apart from just juices and lemonades. For example Italian Spritz. Mocktails like pineapple juice with lychee and coconut cream. Fair enough only Lemon Lime Bitters was available when we visited. So we ordered that for myself and my partner had the wines. But the bar just handed him the bottle of Lemon Lime Bitters and a straw. We had to ask for a glass with ice cubes. That kind of service lacks initiative and made it just averagr. You wanted to have high standard a bit more, rather than just handing the bottle. Or if in doubt, staff can always ask, "would you like some ice cubes in a glass"?. Guests can always decline if not required. 2. We were given a bucket of crackers, and 6 small slices of bread (and few more crackers spread onto the board). The presentation again, doesn't have that high standard you'd expect for a popular well known winery. I mean if you go to Larder and Vin, they have such tiny place. But no matter what you order, they have that special touch, signature to highlight elegance. The plates used, cheese board, baskets for crackers and bread, fork and knives appropriate for a cheese board were well thought. We were given large forks and large knife, which seemed too big to scoop liver pate onto the crackers and bread. Again, it needed a bit of commonsense to elevate and accentuate the wonderful produce to compliment your wine/drinks. 3. The oysters minognette were very fresh, however the minognette vinegar could be elevated a little bit more with extra seasoning. Not bad though. But certainly room for extra improvement. We have also dined at Buscombe's Restaurant, their food and service you could not fault. Simply stunning. Taste and service just magnificent. And to find out that Pooley Wines have the same owner. We were a bit disappointed as we had expected similar standard.

I enjoyed my time spent at Pooley. Best thing about them as such an icon for Tasmania's wine which give you flexibility come down to Tas on a weekday to relax. Great view, great wine, enjoyed the view and the kids running around

Pooley Wines feels like stepping into the Italian countryside—such a charming and picturesque setting. Even on a busy afternoon, our server was incredibly attentive and took the time to answer all our questions with so much knowledge and care. The wines were superb, each glass full of character and beautifully made. We’re already looking forward to coming back, especially to try their wood-fired pizza next time!

Second stop for our winery tour! Amazing wines they have to offer. Such a nice venue as well with the amazing views of the valley. The wines were top notch being the Syrah as the favourite! Staff were very friendly and knowledgeable!Highly recommend for anyone to visit and enjoy some of Tasmania’s finest quality wines!

Yelp
Pooley Wines was the first stop for my friends and me on our DIY wine tour of the area, and what a bar it set for the rest of the day! Our wine tasting guide was friendly and fun, and no wine question of ours was too silly for an answer. All three of us left with a different bottle and a chunk more knowledge about the wines of the region, and I left with a bonus craving for Thai curry (after picking up a bottle of late harvest riesling). The site itself is quite picturesque, with gorgeous stone buildings sitting on the side of a hill. We steered past the cafe corner and hid in the little showroom, but I wouldn't mind a return visit perched on the cafe deck in the sun with a nice glass of Margaret Pooley Tribute (of course my palate likes the more expensive bottles, curse it).

Yelp
Great family run winery. Impressive pinots, but the Reisling was definitely award winning. If you happen to visit the Richmond/Cambridge wine area definitely chk out Pooley!

Yelp
Been in Australia for a few weeks and have done a lot of wine tasting. If you get to Tasmania this is the BEST wine we have had here. Friendly staff and reasonable prices too.

Yelp
Really enjoyed our tasting here although our first server was super super stingy on the wine pours. Could barely taste the wines since the pours were soo teeny weeny. Our second server was much much better and also so much more educational. Was great hearing him talk about the vineyards and the grapes. We even got to taste the different types of grapes...the pinot grape was def much sweeter than I expected. The cab merlot was pretty delicious; very smooth on the palate. We got a glass to drink outside and eat some of our cheese and meats we purchased at wicked cheese co.
