"Morelos is a state in south-central Mexico known for its rich volcanic soil, which is ideal for agriculture. It's a region where history and agriculture collide, and it's considered one of the nation's most important agricultural zones. Morelos is also the exclusive producer of Avila, a unique agave spirit that combines the characteristics of tequila and mezcal." - Stacey Leasca Stacey Leasca Stacey Leasca is an award-winning journalist and co-founder of Be a Travel Writer, an online course for the next generation of travel journalists. Incredible, prominent peak. We mostly saw the volcano when hiking Izta nearby, but you can get views of it as far away as Nevado de Toluca. It's been pretty active recently so you can easily capture it with some plumes of smoke rising out of the caldera. I have heard that it's not open to visitors, but there is a small visitor center in Paso de Cortez that is a good stop. Rumor has it, Cortez sent some men up Popo while passing through to collect sulfur to make gunpowder. Did they survive?

A very bright sight. The power of nature is shown to the maximum here. Before the eruption, this mountain was one of the most difficult, very relief, loose soil. There are always many dangerous unforeseen and inevitable moments! The Popocatepetl volcano woke up on April 15, 2023. Its smoke rose almost 7 km (6700 meters)! In the last 24 hours, he has made 148 emissions. This is one of the dangerous volcanoes in Mexico. Volcano Popocatepetl with a height of 5 thousand meters above sea level, the second highest in the country. There are at least 46 active volcanoes in Mexico, six of which are in the high risk category. Popocatepetl is one of the most active volcanoes in the world. It is located just 64 kilometers southeast of the capital of Mexico, Mexico City. In addition, it is the second highest peak in Mexico (5452 m) after Pico de Orizaba (5636 m). The most dangerous volcanoes are: Popocatepetl, Fuego, Ceboruco, Pico de Orizaba, Chichon and Tacana on the border with Guatemala. In the event of an eruption of Popocatepetl, a chain reaction will not occur - each volcano is independent, each has its own sources of magma, the scientists noted. I recommend this show! The primitive fear of such an element is unique!

Very rough, beautiful hike/ climb. We stayed at high camp at 15,500 and ascended beginning at 3 am. Varied terrain with a unique scree I call Mexican scree which is like sand, pebbles, and ball bearings. Trail has some significant ascents and descents both going up and down. Beautiful ridge views along the top with amazing glaciers. Descent on Mexican scree was rough. Overall great Mountain unlike anything in US. Great experience.

Outstanding landscape trip - be ready and in shape : climbing over 4700m, temp around 2.C but the outstanding views make it worth. better arriving very early morning, around 6 or 7am to have enough time to visit el Popo and Izta together / take clothes for cold, water and food for at least a 3h walk up the mountains

I will never forget this place, just stunning! Be prepared with a jacket for when you reach the top, it is cold up there.

Even though I saw it only from far away, it is absolutely beautiful. Hoping to climb it one day. Majestic and wonderful view!

If you are in Mexico City or surrounding areas, this is a wonderful view to see. If you want to go to the national park make sure it's open first, if Popo is acting up then it can be closed for safety reasons. But you can see Popo from all over.
