Poppys

So many great things I can say but they will never do justice to visiting Poppy’s in person. Definitely one of the best stops in Waukegan for a burger, hot dogs, gyro or italian beef. The prices are great for the portions you get, and they never skip on flavor at all. Great customer service, staff is always friendly and the rare times I’ve experienced a problem they never hesitated to solve it. Parking is a little tight but if you come at the right time you will have no problem. Been coming here for some years and theres a reason I always come back, keep doing what you are doing.

This was my first time here. I wanted s hot dog but got s gyro instead. Their sandwiches come with fries! The Gyro was pretty good and also a good portion. I thought the teziki needed a little more cucumber in it but it was still good. Great value here and staff is very friendly. I will have to come again. Foe those that will ask the onion and tomatoes are under neath.Oh and they serve ICE CREAM as well.

The food is soooo goood their chicken sandwich I recommend to everyone I add mayo to mine and the meal comes with fries

The people that work here take the time to be friendly, which to be honest is a rarity nowadays. The food here is comparable to Mustard’s Last Stand in Evanston and Chuck Wagon in Wilmette. The hotdogs are on point and the gyros is divine. I highly recommend this hole in the wall hot dog place. Poppy’s is an A list stop for everyone. The shakes here look amazing. Emphasis on the workers here. They really are great hardworking people. Oh and there’s a special every day.

A little place to stop with a bit of seating out front. Great food (burgers, nachos, ice cream treats, etc). Very respectable prices. Friendly people. Lines can get a little long, but only because it is so worth the wait. Try this place once and you'll see I'm not exaggerating.

This is a hidden gem! You must stop by and try an Italian beef or a Chicago dog! The food was great. the service was better!! Oh, did I mention the ice cream cones leaving the building.... they were huge and looked delicious. We are in town a few more days, and we will definitely be coming back!

The food was ok we had gyro plater which needed more seasoning, but it was ok now we also had the chili cheese fries, and oh my God the meat look like cat food it taste a little like chili seasoning on it it taste like potted meat. It was not real ground beef and it was dry so that’s a zero.

So good! Had the Chicago dog, Chili Cheese Dog, fries and a mango shake!! Service was great, fast and friendly! Will be back if we’re still working in town!

The prices are amazing!!! Decent menu options and the food was soooooo good. I ordered two Chicago dogs and sausage dog my son, who is a very picky eater demolished the Chicago dog. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal.

This place is cheap, cheap,cheap. A burger and fries is about 2 dollars. There is no inside dimming they only have 3 tables outside. The food was very good. My only complaint is that they didn't tell me the fries were included with the meal so I bought extra

Food is good, made fresh. Service is good nice customer service. Ambiance was cool not great.

Great little hidden Gem. Always worth stopping by and the people there are very friendly and patient.

Dirty restaurant, food was just ok, happy I didn't get sick. Cheap prices so giving a few stars for not gouging like the other restaurants in the area

Just grab a hot dog order with fries or should I say those were fries? Horrible no taste , hot dog winner my second and last time . No Thanks

Went there today Friday april 9th at 8:21pm 2021.. they are scared to give you pickles.. why is this?.. ordered and asked for Extra pickles and they only had 2 on my burger.. I mean come on why are poppy's scared to give you pickles?.. when someone says Extra it means alot of pickles don't be scared and chincy and give 2.. poor business on the pickle part..

This is a friendly, cheap neighborhood place. Food is great and good. Don't go through the drive thru it's not really a drive thru.

Awesome staff, good food, and a huuuuuuugggee menu! Everything comes with fries (cost included in price). The $1 Burger and fries combo is a godsend in the middle of the night. Prices are practically unbeatable.

When I frist came too fibd this hidden gem . I was so happy to find a place where I could actually get some good for for a great price. But then it seems as thou they just dont care any longer . burnt mushrooms , chicken tenders, onion rings . cold food and missing items . I just have no clue what is going on but please get it back to where it needs to be . untill then I wont be going there .

It's really safe to say that my family, friends, and I are regulars here - and for a great reason, too! The food here is consistently good. Whether you're eating something as filling as a 'pound burger' or getting your own customized shake flavor, Poppys never disappoints! The inferno wings are, hands down, the BEST breaded wings in lake county. They are crunchy, spicy, goodness and they are one of my go-to items on the menu. Poppys is extremely cheap for the amount of food you receive. Everything comes with regular fries and you got it - no extra charge! Try getting a hamburger with fries at McDonald's - they'll look at you like you're crazy! But, guess what? Poppys has exactly that! If you haven't had them before, you have no clue what you're missing!

Not only does Poppys leave your stomach full it also keep your wallet full. The Chicken Diablo has been my go to choice for almost a hole decade, don't forget the side of hot Cheese. I've known some of the Staff for years, they've helped the community so much with the "$1 burger and fries" .

One of the best spots to get a gyro in Waukegan. You can get a combo with fries and drink for a really decent price. If you are on a really tight budget, go for the dollar burger and fries, a deal that can't be beat.

Good staff and excellent food I personally love the chicken Diablo and the prices are really cheap. The banana splits are good as well and the shakes are awesome.

Just a hole in the wall dive with hole in the wall food. About the same price as McDonald's without the cleanliness or quality control. Food was edible.

Happened to be in Waukegan and needed some good food. Spotted Poppy's and decided to see what they had. What they had was a pretty big menu. I opted for an Italian Beef For $5.99. I also ordered a Large Fry for $2.99. That's when the Cool Dude behind the counter informed me that the Italian Beef came with a side of Fries. Now, he didn't have to tell me that. He could have gone ahead and rang up my order as I placed it and sent me out with a whole lot of fries that I didn't need. That was pretty darn nice of him! Since I didn't have to get the Large Fry, I decided to try a Poppy's Chocolate Shake. The Italian Beef was Mmmmm Mmmmm Great! The Fries were good and plentiful. The Chocolate Shake, which was about $2.59 (or so) was HUGE and absolutely fantastic. I had planned to be in the Waukegan area again soon and had wanted to try Poppy's Steak Sandwich. However, my plans have already changed. I don't get to the Waukegan Illinois area very often, but next time I do, I will definitely be popping into Poppy's again!

I enjoy eating there because the food is good and the prices are fair. The staff is very friendly, I usually order nachos locos and will probably return again. If they read their reviews I hope that when I order nachos from them that they are better than my last visit.
