On the Grid : King of Pops & The Reign

"A not-so-old-fashioned popsicle stand, King of Pops is a walk-up window selling made from scratch popsicles right here in Scott’s Addition. Using as many local ingredients as possible, the flavors are seasonal and the fruit is fresh. You can often find their cart at the local festivals, concerts, and other outdoor events or work with them to cater your own party. And attached next door is The Reign, a sandwich counter from people who love good sandwiches, using ingredients from those same farms as the popsicles. Local and local, it’s a win-win." - The Frontier Project

Google
Local betting establishment kind of like a miniature casino. A few slot machines and many poker tables. Came here for the kosher food which is dairy based. Service was excellent but the food not so much. At least the pizza was decent. Very friendly atmosphere. Not much of a gambler myself but the place appears to have a lively crowd in the evenings. Prices are quite reasonable. Fairly recommended.

We have yet to try this recommended kosher restaurant! We were traveling from Savannah to Baltimore. On a Friday we called to see what the hours were ( as we were told they opened at 11am the day before)- on Friday the kitchen opens at 4! I don’t even understand that since Shabbos would be approaching soon. On our way back to Savannah- on a Tuesday- we called to confirm their hours- and they are closed on Tuesdays! I probably won’t try again in my travels up/ down the east coast after this very disappointing experience!

I was looking for another place to try close to me and ran across this restaurant. I saw the pics and knew I needed to try it. I'll start by saying this restaurant has a ton of potential but definitely needs a whole new menu. I've never been to a sports bar that didn't atleast have the basic hamburgers, wings, fries, etc. Apparently they used to but now they've gone kosher. The menu has no meat except tuna. Against my better judgement I got a Ceasar salad, it looked good until I realized it had a unreasonable amount of chewy (stale) crutons on it. The tuna sandwich was mediocre at best. The beer was flat. On the bright side the two ladies that were my servers were absolutely wonderful! They saved this place from getting a 1 star review. I wouldn't recommend that you waste your time or money with this place.

Google
The pizza and calzones were good, the staff were very nice but the neighborhood.... Don't go late at night. Its open late at night and as the only kosher place open you may be tempted to go late at night. DO NOT! Its in a terrible neighborhood and while there's a uniformed police officer ( not a security guard an actual police officer)in the fenced parking lot you have to drive thru a terrible neighborhood to get there. I lived in Manhattan and the Bronx so I dont scare easy but there were people on the street obviously high late at night and it was very deserted. Go during the day. The food is good!

The service is more care-free than slow. But the food is very rich and our server was so nice and sociable. Even with a lot tvs around the vibe in the sitting area is very chill with the music they played

Google
Who would have thought, a kosher restaurant in a bingo establishment, with delicious food available until late at night. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Yelp
This place has plenty of space, both indoor and out. The building is off in the cut and a little hard to find. I happened to come here on Thursday when they have a "brunch" night. Wasn't what I expected but I went with it. Ordered the chicken and waffles and my food partner ordered wings. The service was average and the wait time a little long. Based on the crowd there or lack there of, i kind of expected better service and a shorter wait. The blue motorcycle they serve is very strong. The orange crush is okay. I was not a fan of the chicken and waffles. Both were very bland. They do have a ton of tvs there so I think it'd be a great place to watch sports. I'd try Pops again and hope for a better experience.

Yelp
This restaurant needs to brush up on ADA regulations for service animals. I was told no dogs allowed. When I explained my dog is a cardiac protection dog I was told they only allow service dogs for the blind. They need to look at the federal law and realize they will be sued, I have rights like anyone else. They told me they had the right to refuse service ... to anyone. Read the law Pops! Or you may see your self in a lawsuit for your ignorance!!!

Yelp
This was the very first time stopping at Pop's. And I have to say I will definitely be back. When we got out of the car the bartender greeted us from the parking lot. We weren't sure exactly what we wanted so the bartender made up a drinks for us I know it had Vodka in it and it was fruity and good. I didn't get the bartender's name but she was definitely on point with her drinks. Very friendly, sociable, and professional and that was great. Yes, I will be back this time for happy hour.

Yelp
I've been here twice and they have pretty decent food. Great drinks and hip hop music. If you go on karaoke night you might want to blow your brains out. They have a Small casino with slot machines in the back. Full bar with a frozen drink machine that doesn't work. Some of the mixed drinks don't tase well but I think it has to do with which bartender you get. Great decor inside, Sports bar theme.lots of parking, Lots of potholes and gravel. Overall - awesome hood spot! Totally recommend

Yelp
Pops bar and grill is a sports bar off the beaten path. They definitely have enough TVs to watch any of your games. I love the leather couches they have in the back for total relaxation. Had the wings here, not the best but manageable. I wasn't a big fan of the lemon cake. I could certainly come back to catch some football games here.

Yelp
Good food good staff and a great atmosphere. The wings are plentiful and the ghost pepper sauce is on point not just all heat. This is great hidden way place to kick back have a few and enjoy the game. See you there.

Yelp
I had to update my review this morning, as my last review from 2 years ago was 5 stars for this place. However since then Pop's fell off... I ordered the jam jam shrimp and it was terrible. We sat at the bar and the service was worst. It was only my friend and I in the entire bar last night. We sat there for a whole hour and never were asked what did we want to drink. I gave 2 stars for the tvs, otherwise this is now a 1 star place.

Yelp
Great service, very friendly and positive. Love the menu. Look forward to going back and trying other items. We had the ginger mojitos, chicken tenders and fries and the grilled salmon. Drinks were very flavorful and not super syrupy sweet. Husband enjoyed his salmon and the veggie medley. Chicken tenders were def above average and not all breading with no chicken. Good batter but not too much which I appreciated. We both loved the fries. Really enjoyed the atmosphere with so many tv's! I'd definetly recommend checking out this local spot! We plan to make it our local bar!

Yelp
Nice bar. Good food. Sooo many TVs. Great for sports or a chill drink. Also...like 7 slot machines.

Yelp
If I could give this place a 0 I would. Sat down for 30 minutes and not one person came to serve us, or ask us ANYTHING. That has to be the worse service ever... or maybe I can't even say service since we never got anything.

Yelp
Went to Pops yesterday for Sunday football. First, don't be put off by the location. It's in an old bingo hall, and sits as the lone eatery on the road. Here is my assessment of my experience: 1. Service was 5 stars. Davon (sp?) was excellent and very attentive. Bartender that we ordered from later was also great and sweet. 2. Food/drinks was 4.5 stars. This was a surprise...in a good way. Small menu allows kitchen to focus on what they're good at. The chips and salsa were just average. Salsa was flavorless but chips were good. My friends and I ordered entrees also. I got the shrimp wrap and my friends got catfish and chips. My wrap was huge and came with fries and was very good. My friends' catfish piece was HUGE, expertly fried in a light batter, and very tasty. I was jealous. My one friend is a fried catfish lover and said it was one of the best she'd ever had. Drinks were cold and had great pours on my vodka sodas. Wine selection was as to be expected:Chardonnay and Pinot Grigio for whites. I told the owner to consider adding Sauv Blanc. 3. Atmosphere: 4.5. This place is huge, comfortable and has around 65 Tvs- excellent for watching your games on. My friends and I had no trouble finding our teams games and finding comfortable seats. There's a whole room in the back with couches and a huge brand new patio. Bathrooms are clean but have only two stalls. May be a problem when it gets busy. Got a chance to talk to the owner and his son, both were very sweet and interested in our suggestions. Will definitely return!

Yelp
First time there and everyone was welcoming and nice. It was excellent to meet the owner and family! I will definitely be back for all of the games (so many TVs) and the food was excellent as well!

Yelp
Came to Pop's to watch the pay-per-view fight. Drinks and service were good. The atmosphere was great! Will be back for another game night or fight night soon!

Yelp
Fun atmosphere, fantastic wings and fries, and friendly accommodating staff. We hope to make our way back there another time and enjoy an evening in the outside seating. Would highly recommend for a team event! Our teenage boys wanted to return the next day for more of those amazing fries and bbq wings!

Yelp
Food was awesome, the service sucked. Let me say I am not a high maintenance customer by no means but damn. Sat at the high tops at the bar area, bartender took my order the came back to say the kitchen wasn't even open. I said ok and started to leave. The Manager overhead and said we can make you something. So I ordered the fish and chips with a beer. Of course beer that I ordered was tapped so no big deal took a bud light instead. Food came out quickly and hot, bartender dropped it off and was gone. Mind you my beer was almost empty wen she dropped the meal but never said a word. Dropped and ran. This would be the last I would see of her during the entire meal. No beer no napkins no service. I had finished my meal and again it was delicious, when finally she reappeared with the check. I ask for napkins so that I could wipe the grease off my fingers, paid the bill, which by the way had a 12% tip added in and at the bottom had a spot for additional tip, I still tipped because that's what I do, left and will never go back.

Yelp
This place is amazing! Amazing food and amazing service! In town for the night, googled sports bars and this place came up. Again, amazing.

Yelp
What a great space! If you want to catch any game and grab some food, you gotta go here! Excellent staff. One of the best Sports Bars in Richmond.

Yelp
I came to Pop's Bar and Grill the first time in December to have lunch with coworkers. I was not impressed, but the food was good. I got the Club that time. I came a second time, during Karaoke about three or four weeks ago. The bartender made me the Pop's Punch and a top shelf Margarita. Perfect. I could tell she worked at Mexican restaurant before (lol jk). The wings are the best I've had in Richmond, she told me they make their own sauces (not sure if that's true or if it's a selling point), but they were good as hell! I wanted Lemon Pepper but they don't have that, so I just went with her suggestion. There is so much seating, different styles of seating, a little casino room to play. Lots of tvs, cold beer, I couldn't believe the place wasn't packed. I found out about Lonnie B DJing there so I know this summer will be crazy. Shout out to Snowflake, the bartender, great service. Oh yea make sure if you go, get the Honey Garlic and Old Bay wings. You won't be disappointed. Only thing I would change personally is putting some more appetizer choices on the menu.

Yelp
I really feel bad giving this one star review. We heard about Pop's through Channel 12 and then a tv commercial. Checked it out today for happy hour. They DO have a great wine selection- something you wouldn't expect in a Sports bar. No happy hour wine - but still. Give credit where credit is due. We sat at the bar. There was one other patron who sat for a short bit long enough to be annoying on his cell phone which he had set to the loud land line kind of ring. Our waitress was sweet. We got a jerk chicken wrap that comes with fries and a pickle. The fries were room temperature and I let the waitress know they were cold. She took our plate leaving us eating a messy wrap off of a napkin. She said she would have them thrown back in the fryer. She eventually brought them back and they had moved up to warm status. The wrap left both of us with a weird after taste - maybe just wasn't a taste we cared for. No more patrons came in while we were there. I will say someone has put care into this place. Lots of tvs. A cute outdoor area with a fireplace (no one was out there. I assume they light the fireplace). We don't plan on going back because we have local favorites that this did not draw our attention away from to try something different so we shall stick with them. Wish them luck but just not for us.
