8 Best Places to Visit in the French Riviera

"The trio of Porquerolles, Port-Cros, and Le Levant are dubbed Îles d’Or, or Golden Islands. They're about two hours from Saint-Tropez and scattered off the coast of Hyères, but they have more in common with the Caribbean than their celeb-frequented neighbors. Croissant-shaped Porquerolles is the largest of the three and the most accessible, since it has a few studios and small hotels. A sailboat is the best way to get here — and the best place to sleep, too. Coastal loop trails cut through Aleppo pines on the car-free island, where you can hike or bike to beaches like Plage Notre Dame, which has a reputation of being one of the most beautiful in Europe." - Lane Nieset Lane Nieset Lane Nieset is a travel writer from Miami who has lived in France for the past decade. Described as a conservation site with limited development and secluded beaches. Well, more like a Californian suburb with bicycle congestion and the London underground at rush hour. You can surely find idyllic views, but the island is really just a commercial venture branded as a natural park. Probably move on if you're looking for peace and nature.

Porquerolles Island is a stunning destination for travelers. I found an informative travel guide on Amazon that gave me all the key details about this beautiful location in France. For anyone planning a trip, I recommend getting a guidebook, and James Patel's guide is an excellent choice. Overall, my time on this French island was unforgettable.

lle de Porquerolles is a gem in the Mediterranean, and Notre Dame Beach is its crown jewel. This beach has been celebrated as the most beautiful in Europe for eight consecutive years, and it’s easy to see why. The photo captures the essence of Notre Dame Beach perfectly. The foreground is framed by dark, twisted tree branches, giving a sense of the natural and slightly wild environment that surrounds the beach. Beyond these branches, the vibrant turquoise sea stretches out, dotted with boats and swimmers enjoying the clear, inviting waters. The lush green hill in the distance adds to the serene and unspoiled landscape, making it a perfect spot for nature lovers. The beach itself is known for its pristine, crystal-clear waters and soft, golden sand. The combination of the rich greenery, the well-preserved environment, and the tranquil atmosphere makes it a haven for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The bright blue sky and good weather conditions, as seen in the photo, further enhance the beach’s appeal. Whether you’re looking to relax on the sand, swim in the clear waters, or explore the surrounding nature, Notre Dame Beach on Île de Porquerolles offers a little slice of paradise. It’s no wonder it has earned its title as Europe’s most beautiful beach year after year.

Magnificent place either for a day trip or a moro prolonged stay. Paradise for trekking, with hilly trails, fantastic views, high cliffs and beautiful calanques. Beach goers won't be disappointed as well. If you want to stay on the island, you have to reserve well in advance.

Never again. We didn’t get all the excitement around this island. An awful atmosphere on the island (feeling the hard “heritage” of the island history) with the worst ever service in France (comparing to Paris, Tignes, Lyon, Dijon, Strasbourg, Cassis , Bandol, Le Lavandou), where you don’t feel you are welcomed at all. The nature is beautiful, but it’s not unique: you can find the same azure water beaches and fine pines around Cassis and Bandol, as well as Le Lavandou. Many people take bikes to ride around. The roads are of poor quality, so they mainly propose you mountain bikes, maybe good for half day stay, but I believe you can find better than this to ride a bike in the pines and to swim in the azure sea.

Wonderful island, a bit overcrowded in the summer ~ 10k visitors each day this year (2020). Great place to disconnect from reality and discover nature's most beautiful beaches and fields. Friendly locals, great restaurants, and shops. Recommended to rent a bike, it costs 17 euros the whole day, and you can visit all the important sights in one day.

The boat tour to the island is 72€ for two person. On foot it isn't possible to see a lot of the island. We rented bikes but the bikepaths are more heavy Mountainbike paths. Bike rental was 16€ per bike a day. The island is nice but it is difficult to see everything cause you don't got enough time to get around the island. The Boat arrives at 11 am and leaves at 5 pm. You should be at the pier about 4 pm. If you arrive later you won't get a seat and you need to stand for one hour. And then remember the 72€ bucks you paid. That is just ridiculous. And there are no informations in English. The whole tour they just spoke French so that you couldn't gather any information about the surroundings. In the evening I was and that I went there. By the way... The beaches aren't that nice. There are nicer ones like indie beach which I can really recommend.
