My buddy came from the Bay Area to visit me, and one thing he wanted to do was the PEC. I told him I will see what I can do, because I figured it wasn't one of those places you can just walk up to. And, that is quite true. However, if you are a Porsche fan, are thinking about wanting to buy a one, or have some cash to burn, then check this place out.
I would like to preface a few things- this place is near the airport, and you must check in at the gate if you even want to consider getting into this place. I would start off by doing your research online. Here is a breakdown of what you can do:
Simulators, from 30-60 minutes, 40-75$
Guided tours, 90 minutes, starting from $16
Demo laps
And of course, the actual driving, where depending on the car you choose, will cost from $365-975.
There is also a hotel on site, a catering facility, restaurants, a gift shop, a restoration factory, and a heritage center.
According to the site, the heritage center is free. Which, it is, but you may want to call ahead, especially if they are busy. When I drove up that day I told them I wanted to visit the Heritage Center they thought I was huffing glue, lol. Thankfully, they gave me a card, I tried calling, but long story short, after waiting about 15 minutes, they let us in. I guess they had 2 large events that day. All we wanted to do was look at some cars, not start anything.
Security is definitely on edge here, as it should be, there is millions of dollars of inventory housed in the building. And, a lot of Porsche history here. Did you know that Porsche North America moved from Reno, NV to Sandy Springs, GA? Good call, I would have too...
They have some pretty cars here, and is a great backdrop for a prom or something catered to a car enthusiast. The gift shop has plenty of over priced things, all Porsche, for the infant up to the grandparents. Hell, they even have model cars priced in the 5 digit range.
This place is high end, for sure, and a celebration of German engineering. If you run into the assistant chief track instructor, his name is Hunter Gahl- you will be in good hands. Just make sure you do your research before you come, and if you plan on driving, don't drink any alcohol!
