"Port Fonda, Westport. I can say with 100% certainty that you will not taste Mexican food quite like this anywhere else in Kansas City. Port Fonda's menu is as imaginative & adventurous as it is delicious. The restaurant began as an Airstream before settling their roots in Westport. Their carnitas tacos are my personal favorite: braised pork shoulder, adobo, grilled pineapple, cilantro, onion and fresh-squeezed lime. The interior is just as interesting as the menu; you'll find traditional-style tattoos inking the concrete walls, transparent murals coating the windows & traditional oil paintings of Mexican motifs."

Found this place walking down the street. The smell coming from it was amazing. We went in and the staff was amazing. They explained the bottomless bloody Marys. This is a must try for Mexican food. The food has so many flavors and spice. If you are unsure they gave great recommendations. This place is now on my list for when I come to KC. The atmosphere is fun and energetic and modern. Better than anything I have had in Houston and I have tried a lot. Best Huevos Rancheros I have ever had.

Google
Excellent restaurant with incredibly tasty food, wonderful ambiance and good service. A testament to everything that’s right about Kansas City cuisine. The staff was very attentive and welcoming. My order came very quickly. I really appreciate their innovative menu thats is very flavorful and has numerous options for vegetarian versions. As a diabetic I really appreciated I could get fresh cut raw veggies with seasoning instead of chips for example. I had the Chimichanga del Dia with habanero sauce and a habenero based cocktail. The menu is absolutely delightful. If you’re expecting a typical, boring Mexican restaurant with mariachi music or are afraid of flavor, don’t go. You’re not ready yet. If you want something tasty and unexpected, go to Port Fonda, you won’t be sorry you did.

I'd heard about Port Fonda some time ago and how good it was but had never had the opportunity to go until this last evening with friends. We kiddingly mentioned to the wait staff how we thought we raised the average age at least several decades. The service was very attentive and helpful when we had questions. Their menu was going through some updates so I wasn't able to get my tamale pie, however, my dinner was excellent. We were also able to get a few appetizers and drinks during happy hour which is worth it if you can make it before 6. I look forward to returning and trying out some new summer menu items.

Google
Went for the green chile festival and absolutely loved it! Roasting Hatch green chiles live and live music - what is not to love?!! The food was on point, the margarita flight was delicious, great service, great vibe and we can't wait to come back again soon to try the rest of the menu! In our opinion, what a gem! You have to make the effort to come try it out for yourselves. I don't think you'll be disappointed!

Google
This is a great spot in Westport with a lively atmosphere and great place to start the night. The food is some of the most delicious in Kansas City and has a James Beard semifinalist award to prove it. Would highly recommend the chimichanga and the pitchers of margaritas! Coming back soon!

Kendal Budd-Felix

Google
The chips and salsa sampler was nice and the environment was cute, however, the margaritas are not made fresh and taste very syrup-like and sugary. Everything is aesthetically pleasing, but just not a 5/5 in the flavor department.

Lauren Pope

Google
Some of the best Mexican food in the city. I love the roasted corn, and their ever-changing chimichanga is always to die for. Also check out their weekend brunch. They have the most delightful avocado marg on the menu currently, and the huevos rancheros was absolutely delicious. Always a hopping spot, and I can't recommend this place enough!

Andrew

Google
Place is overpriced, and not very good. Drinks were bad. If your going to serve a margarita in a water glass, at least make sure it taste good. Also when the customer has issue with the drink or food don't just say put sugar in the drink and sorry about the food, here's the bill.

Yelp
Taco Naco in Westport?? Yea they ate. This my fave mexican spot rn hands down. Like I'm mad I didn't find it sooner. Food hit every time, ain't no misses. I had the shrimp & chorizo taco and the chicken al pastor. Both of em was fireee. Shrimp one had this crispy lil crunch and the sauce was delightful. The al pastor got that sweet lil pineapple on it so it's givin sweet n spicy in the best way...but pollo, no porque! The chips and queso?? Nah that queso was creamy af and the chips was fresh. Like not stale not too salty just perfect. I also got a spicy mango marg and baybeee it had me feelin real cute real quick. Came with a lil tajin rim and a tamarind candy on top. 10/10 just off vibes alone. Oscar at the bar held it down too. Cool energy, made sure I was good the whole time. Def comin back. Might bring my man or a bestie. Might not. Either way I'm finna eat good.

Yelp
We were very excited to try this place as there had been a lot of hype around it. There were 6 of us and 3 people actually enjoyed their meal. Personally, I had the chicken quesadilla and it was bland and greasy. The folks that had the burritos really enjoyed them. We are not in a hurry to go back. It may have been a lone experience because the place was packed and we've heard good things.
google avatar

Yelp
"Authenticity for White People." The main demographic being catered to here. I will say the to-go containers of salsas are the standout, esp creamy jalapeño. The burrito bowl was bland and did not come with any salsa, which it desperately needed. Extremely expensive tacos. The local, authentic food trucks in Olathe would be floored

Yelp
Loved this funky, vibrant, taco place that serves some legit tacos and offers unique salsas! Coming from California, we were craving some tacos and we were glad we came here. We tried an assortment of tacos: Chicken Quesabirria, Baja Shrimp Chorizo, Pork Al Pastor, and Tecate Fried Fish. All of them were delicious. Even the Mushroom Mole taco was unique and delicious. They give you a bunch of salsa to choose from - mild to hot. The Peaunut Macha was fantastic - I've never had anything like it. The service was prompt and friendly. They even accommodated a request that wasn't in the menu officially - Queso con chorizo as a dip without the nachos. Overall we had a great time. Highly recommend!

Yelp
This place is pretty decent. I came here with my friend. We were originally headed somewhere else, but they were too packed, so we decided to try this spot instead. The inside is super open, and you order before sitting down. What we ordered: I got a burrito with brisket and no beans (I'm not a fan of beans). My friend ordered four al pastor tacos. We also got a regular order of nachos. The burrito was just okay--lots of rice and meat, but not much else. There wasn't any salsa or anything to add flavor; it was mostly rice with a little bit of meat. I wish there had been more sauces or cheese to balance it out. My friend enjoyed the tacos, though. The meat wasn't too dry, which was nice. The nachos were a bit of a letdown. I know they're simple, but they could've used more toppings--maybe some veggies or extra flavor. It was just dry chicken with cheese and a few jalapeños. On the bright side, the horchata was really good! That definitely hit the spot.

Yelp
Bring on the birria!!!! Best tacos and margs in Westport - and a unique spin on Birria Ramen. Counter order service, fast for when you need a quick but fresh and flavorful meal. Stay longer and enjoy their well crafted margs and definitely don't forget to sample the different salsas (my favorite is the creamy habanero)! Lots of windows and natural light so a great spot for happy hour or lunch with friends.

Yelp
food was dismal. soggy nachos, loaded but not well balanced. Cheese was generic canned velveteeta spread. Quesadilla floppy and not crisp filled w dry chicken. When I called I was offered 4 weak words then put on hold until I finally hung up.
google avatar

Yelp
I think I found the party. A bright and colorful interior invites you in. A fairly expansive menu of gourmet tacos and Mexican-inspired dishes and beverages gets you comfortable. A loud soundtrack blasting through the speakers and a super cool laid back staff makes you not want to leave. I liked the tacos - especially the Tecate Fried Fish.
google avatar

Yelp
This place is local but seems like a franchise. I'm from Alaska and we have some good taco places but this was by far the best I've had in KC. I appreciate the workers honesty by saying how the burrito was good and recommended a different place for the tacos I initially wanted. She lowered my expectations and the carme asada burrito turned out better than I thought. 8.5 out of 10.
google avatar

Grace T.

Yelp
Not sure why there's so much hype for Taco Naco... I didn't feel like the meats were that good, and the sauces were mid. Maybe I went on an off-day? I can see how people would really enjoy this place if drinking with friends in Westport, but I wouldn't recommend this restaurant for individuals really looking for good food.

Yelp
First of all the atmosphere here is great. Located right off the main road in Westport, it's a great place to sit outside and people watch or sit inside and enjoy the ambiance. They play great music and have a very inviting staff to welcome you. When you walk it the restaurant is very bright and vibrant with colors. There's a nice little retail area with snacks and other knickknacks you can look through while you wait which is nice. There's also an option to order on a large touch screen which I think was easier due to the visibility and a better menu layout than the board at the counter. One nice thing is that they bring the food out to you so you can sit wherever you want inside or out. The food was really flavorful with great options for everybody. I tried a few different soft tacos including beef, quesabirria and fish. My favorite was the quesabirria tacos. They were super tender and juicy and tasted great with the salsa and a splash of lime juice. The chips and queso were also great. Perfectly salted and the queso clings to the chips very nicely, not runny at all. They also have a variety of Jarritos which is one of my favorite drinks to have with Mexican food. The one downfall of our visit was the margaritas we ordered. There was some sort of miscommunication so we didn't receive our drinks until after I reminded them they needed to be made which was when we were almost finished eating. Once we got our drinks they were super disappointing. My passion fruit margarita was mostly tequila with hardly and flavoring plus it had tajin on the rim, which I hate, when I requested sugar. My friend's margarita was completely wrong. Straight tequila and no flavoring at all plus tajin on the rim again. Not what was ordered at all and poorly made. Overall it was a pretty good experience minus the drinks. I'd go back again for the food and maybe try the drinks again if a different bartender were there.

Yelp
Taco Naco has the best and most authentic street tacos and overall authentic Mexican food I've had in a long time. The margaritas are a bit sweet for my liking, but the chicken and chorizo are amazzzzzing. You can't go wrong with a taco, quesadilla or burrito. The ambiance is fine, it feels like you're in a market in Mexico, and you order at the counter, but honestly that works great, especially if you want to be quick.

Yelp
Just Stopped By Here To Get A Drink. It's Pretty Early But It's A Calm Cool Vibe. Oscar, The Bartender Is Super Cool And Was Willing To Answer All The Questions I Had. Would Come Back Whenever I'm In Town And Try Their Food And Get More Drinks!

Yelp
Oh Taco Naco, how I love you. Taco Naco is one of the main reasons I miss living in Westport because I constantly wanted to walk over for tacos. You place your order at the counter and then take your number to a table. The space is surprisingly large inside, and there's tons of bar stools outside. The food comes out hot and quick! They have desserts and other goodies that can be purchased from the small market area to the left inside the door. You absolutely must get an Agua de Pina for your drink - it's the perfect refreshing beverage! The tacos have super generous portions, and the toppings are fun and unique! The breakfast burritos are honestly the star of the menu for me. The delicious fresh tortillas really do it for me every time. A bacon and egg breakfast burrito from Taco Naco single-handedly saved my life during the heat of the Pride Parade in Westport. I can't recommend enough! There really is a reason why Taco Naco is consistently voted some of the best tacos in the KC area!! Taco Naco is close to the U-shaped parking lot off Pennsylvania, but you're mostly stuck with street parking unless you walk from the Westport garage.

Yelp
Cute location and clean store. Food selection was large and service was fast. Food was hot and fresh. We will be back. Little pricy for what it is since it's a self serve restaurant but food was tasty.

Cheddar C.

Yelp
Very clean restaurant with freshly made Mexican food. Tried the brisket tacos, salsa and queso dip. Very good, but tacos were small. Went to the late happy hour from 9p-11p and drinks were cheaper. Service was friendly and food arrived very quickly. They have various Mexican foods, salsa and other items for sale as well. Inside and outside dining available. This place is definitely worth a visit.

Yelp
A vibrant, fun and delicious addition to Westport. Taco Naco is serving the basic Mexican staples of tacos, burritos, tostados, tortas...but with a bit of artisanal flair. My Carne Asada Chimichurri taco was topped with cheese and an avocado mousse; and my Shrimp Chorizo taco had a nice Chipotle Aioli drizzle. The side of elotes were the creamiest and cheesiest I've ever had. We also went with the 7 salsa sampler flight with warm crispy seasoned chips. The Peanut Macha salsa was one of the most unique flavors I've encountered - definitely will order it as my sauce of choice on all return visits. Counter ordering, but delivered to your table by friendly servers that continuously checked on us throughout our stay. I was frequently using Shazam to discover some great new music also. 5 stars on food, value, service and atmosphere.

Yelp
The food here was just okay. The customer service was great and really fast. We ordered to go but the inside was a total vibe. I ordered a pork tostada and a chicken taco. I had 20 minute drive to my destination and the tostada was still crispy. I liked the pineapple relish on the taco as well. But again not a place I would rush back to.
google avatar

Yelp
This was really pretty great, and I say that even with the caveat that we ordered it from a delivery service, which doesn't always provide the best version of a restaurant. The tacos here held together really well, and were perfectly sized, perfectly portioned, and, well, perfect. I tried the al pastor which is sort of my gold standard, as well as a baja shrimp taco that includes chorizo and a chipotle aioli. That one was good, but decadent; I'd compare my order to getting a sushi order where I got a few simple ones (comparable to maki) and one decadent one, like those rolls with fried bits and cream cheese. Their chips and guac were tasty and also well portioned. We have another spot that we order from and sometimes it's an almost literal thimble of guac, not the case here. We also ordered a side of verde salsa that was great. Nothing not to like here, and even though I haven't been in, I think this is a spot that's earned some time in the rotation.

Yelp
Wow!! The food was incredible here! We loved the chips & queso, and I went out of my normal comfort zone and tried their special - the Brisket Quesabirria Tacos!! We loved the ambiance - music, tables, etc. too! Food came out so quickly and we couldn't be more pleased.
google avatar

Yelp
Lots of Mexican food choices, tacos were well served, good salsa's variety, crunchy chips and cold beer, what else could you ask for a taco joint!!
google avatar

Trevor S.

Yelp
The food is just not good, especially considering the price point, and, not to mention being so fortunate to have many great restaurants in KC of this genre.

Yelp
I happen to stumble in here with my friend because we love tacos. My over experience was amazing the staff was knowledgeable, personable and friendly. Food: all my food was really good the only thing I didn't really care for was the tecate fried fish taco there was nothing about it I like. All food items are picture's except the chicken Al pastor which was really good. Drinks: the spicy pineapple margarita was good and I had frozen swirl drink also that was pretty good.
google avatar

Jansher D.

Yelp
I came here for a quick bite with a friend and was pleased surprised! I would say everything is fairly priced and would come again to try more menu items. Food: I got a chicken tostada. It was a bit dry for me but still delicious! The drinks were really good too. I recommend coming for happy hour. Service: The employees were nice and helpful. They were always cleaning tables and making sure you are doing good! Love Ambience: super cute vibe and esthetic! Really inviting atmosphere.

Yelp
Another week, another carryout issue. Might be time to fix the pickup system you have in place. In today's episode, my girlfriend placed an online order that ultimately had to be remade. When we arrived to pick it up, apparently someone else had made off with it. My previous issue with TN was that someone merely pointed to my order rather than handing it to me. Seems that's still happening. This is a simple fix. Make everyone coming to retrieve carryout orders check in, check the ticket and HAND them their order.

Yelp
I d been hearing so many good things about this spot. So when they took over the former port Fonda space, I was excited that it was now close to me. Reasonable prices for tacos. I wasn't very hungry so I only ordered a couple of items. One was the Best Fish taco in the city. Yep. Hands down. The tater tots were also very tasty. Zoe our bartender was very knowledgeable and super friendly. Actually all the staff were friendly. The bar has more than 30 tequilas. They also have mezcals and other popular spirits. This spot is bright and cheery - and offer booth, table and bar seating. This is a great addition to Westport. They have a good Happy hour.

Morgan H.

Yelp
I tried the brisket quesabirria tacos and life feels worth living now. That's the only appropriate way I can describe how good they were. You really do eat with your eyes first. Everything from the food to the interior was so vibrant and colorful and it was a very warm and welcoming environment. Very nice staff and my order was ready very fast!! I'm already ready to go back.
google avatar

Calie H.

Yelp
I am not sure how I feel about the dinner I had tonight. It wasn't bad. But I am not "wow" by it either. My friends ordered a few tacos, and they said it was "a-okay." I got the chicken quesadilla because they only have corn tortilla. And I prefer flour tortilla. My quesadilla was soaked in oil, and the chicken was a bit bland. The salsa came with the quesadilla was also bland. It was missing that "kick" I am used to other places. Service was quick and friendly. We did not have to wait long for food to come out. And they all thanked us for coming in a we were leaving. I think this place has a lot of potential. I will come back to try out other items.
google avatar

Lauren R.

Yelp
I was hopeful that this location would be just as good as the OP spot and it definitely was. I wish I would have gotten more pics of the space because it is just so fun and inviting. I love that they still have the little storefront. Order at the front and they bring it to your table and everything came out pretty quickly. We were there for breakfast, but couldn't pass up the tacos. I highly recommend the pozole. They definitely don't skimp on portions. OK
google avatar

Lindsey L.

Yelp
For Valentines, we went to Taco Naco in Westport. I love that they added Valentine's balloons and roses in mexican coke bottles to their already colorful aesthetic for the special day. They are a counter service spot offering a fresh, modern take on Mexican food and are known for their street tacos. Usually I get their Santa Fe bowl but to make it an extra spicy Valentines, I got the salsa sampler. We had fun trying every single salsa from mild to VERY spicy. It was serving... feel-the-burn. With my favorite salsas being the Cantina Roja and Tomatillo. Thankfully we had delicious palomas and margs to cool off and tacos for our main meal.
google avatar

Kalana M.

Yelp
stopped by here while enjoying the westport art show. really good margaritas, nachos were okay i don't believe they were worth the price just kinda of expected more than cheese, sauces, and brisket. they were very filling though. i'd definitely go back to try those birria tacos because my boyfriend loved them!
google avatar

Ana G.

Yelp
I had the best bar service from Kat this taco Tuesday! Taco Naco is the Westport spot that I had no idea was there. Thanks, team!
google avatar

Aimee O.

Yelp
Maybe the best tacos of my life, and I'm a taco fanatic. Absolutely fantastic Conchita Pibil. I would eat here every day if it was closer!

Bradley W.

Yelp
This place is the real deal. From the homemade tortillas to the perfectly seasoned meats, every bite was packed with authentic flavor. The salsa was fresh with just the right amount of heat, and the service was friendly and fast. You can tell everything is made with care. Easily one of the best Mexican meals I've had--highly recommend!

Yelp
We just moved to Westport/North Plaza and are slowly checking out all the restaurants within walking distance--this place was near the top of our list of places to try and it did not disappoint! The woman who took our order, the woman who made our drinks, and the woman who brought us our food were all friendly and fast. This is a counter service restaurant so it is pretty casual, but it was clean and busy but not overly so. We ordered one of each of their signature tacos except the ground beef because my husband is from southern California and a taco snob. All the tacos were good, but the pork al pastor and the brisket tacos were top notch. We also ordered chicken tamales, my husband liked them because the masa was silky smooth, I wanted more meat. My frozen mango margarita was gorgeous and delicious and they had an IPA on draft so the hubby was happy too. We sat outside at the little bar that overlooks the street for top notch Westport people watching. We both highly recommend this place & especially the mango margarita, the pork al pastor taco, and that brisket taco--they were soooo good.
google avatar

Kara K.

Yelp
Bright decor, fun ambience. We had tacos and an order of the nachos. In my opinion, the nachos could have used more cheese - luckily, we'd ordered a side of elote, which was cheesy/corn and an unexpected complement to the rest of our order.
google avatar

Sue A.

Yelp
Very cute taco shop. Got three tacos and an agua fresca for about $20. Salsas are nice and wait time was very reasonable. Not the best street tacos I've had but I'd go back again if I was near here.
google avatar

Emily K.

Yelp
Love this new spot in Westport! The taco variety is awesome and they have a couple of veg options as well. Some of my faves were the shrimp, chicken pastor and fish. They do not skimp on toppings! I wish they came with two tortillas for my droppings because they are hefty. The chips and queso are also awesome! Love that they use takeout containers to serve so you can take stuff home super easily. Also the salsa flight was a super fun concept and I loved trying all the flavors! (Except the hottest one - that one ruined all my friends' tongues and i'm a baby) ALSO you must try the agua de pina! So delicious. Service has been super quick the three times I've been so far!
google avatar

Beverley A.

Yelp
I had a blast here. The customer service was impeccable and tacos were affordable and quite tasty. The margarita was also strong (strawberry). We came here around 8pm and we missed the rush on a Thursday night. Beyond Tacos there is a mini grocery store vibe filled with trinkets, treats and drinks. The other caution is parking may be tight primarily due to the area with a ton of bars. Park where you can
google avatar

Darrell R.

Yelp
If I told you I had the best taco of my life in Kansas City, you'd probably call me a liar. Well slap my ass and call me Susie! The baja shrimp taco was too good for words, seriously. I felt like the tortilla even had great flavor, and the price was almost as good as the taco. You won't be disappointed
google avatar

Paula R.

Yelp
The Brisket Quesabirria Tacos are my jam. The service is great and the restaurant is well taken care of. I love they have the Mexican Coca Cola. My people think I think I hype it up, but it just tastes better!!!!
google avatar

Amanda R.

Yelp
Grabbed brunch on a Sunday morning at Taco Naco. They have really brightened up the space and I love their little market area! You order at the counter - I got a michelada and chilaquiles. The michelada was huge and delicious! The chilaquiles were also incredible! I would go back in a heartbeat! Service was kind. Definitely give it a shot if in the area!
google avatar

Matthew W.

Yelp
Phenomenal! Fantastic tacos! The guacamole is also very good, as well as their tortilla chips.
google avatar

Chelsey V.

Yelp
Environment is open, bright, colorful, and lively music that has rotational ethnic notes (not just Latin pop music) tacos are large portioned in proteins for the price (you definitely don't need more than 3) the drinks are flavorful and strong. The salsas were delicious (favorites were the tomatillo, jalapeño, and salsa macha) chips were fresh tasting and flavored with tajin and salt. The quesadilla was delicious and loaded with cheese, came with a creamy chipotle style sauce, very good dipped in the green salsas as well...the pastor was flavorful and pineapple gave a fresh bite. Asada was well seasoned and texture was chewy without the work of stringy meat. The barbacoa is flavorful and juicy. The shrimp and chorizo was definitely the meal favorite, the chorizo is soft textured and salty that went well with the battered shrimp, 10/10 on that one. The sad fellow was the fish taco...due to so much slaw topping and it being wet and creamy you lost the crispy batter of the fish and drowned out the flavor. The fish by itself was delicious but was overpowered by the soggy mess on top. Wouldn't try the fish again unless they did a lighter slaw or non cream one. The pickled onions, pepinos and radish on the side was delicious to pair with everything to give fresh bites on the palate before the next bites. The passion fruit margaritas were tangy and sweet, loved the taste. The horchata was thin but creamy in texture, perfect for a hot day (and free refills on auga frescas was too goo to pass up) the michalada was perfectly balanced and you can choose your own beer. The market is hardly that but it has cute items in it. The space is way better than the businesses here before and would definitely come again
google avatar

Polly P.

Yelp
The delicious food that is made in the establishment is heavenly. The black bean with shrimp tostadas is packed with flavor. The fish tacos complement the coleslaw. The guacamole is fresh. Just perfection!

Lydia S.

Yelp
Wasn't super impressed with the food and probably will not be returning. Was hoping for a more authentic taco but they were weirdly sweet

Yelp
Must try place in Westport! My boyfriend tried the chorizo breakfast burrito and then I ended up getting dinner here. Prices are reasonable for the portion sizes. I did an online order and it was ready so quickly. I was able to walk right in and got helped right away! I got a chicken quesadilla which had so much flavor and queso & chips. You got enough chips to go with the queso. I think you can ask for salsa but I didn't. If you're craving mexican, go here!
google avatar

Kelsey H.

Yelp
The margaritas were strong and the presentation was lovely. However, the food was expensive and lacked flavor. What we ordered is as follows: Two drinks: Spicy Pineapple Fuego Margarita Wild Berry Margarita Appetizer: Queso con chorizo Entrees: Baja Shrimp Chorizo Taco Tecate Fried Fish Taco Picadillo Ground Beef Taco Chicken Tostada Sides: Black beans Rice

Richard ..

Yelp
We ate at Taco Naco on Halloween night. I had the brisket taco which was delicious and filling. My husband enjoyed the fish taco, and others in our group enjoyed quesadilla and other dishes and tried various salsas. After dinner, enjoyed hot, fresh churros and cups of Mexican hot chocolate. This place will raise your spirits enjoying the colorful decor, friendly staff and delicious Mexican cuisine.
