This is the first aquarium I've gone to that has had belugas. Sadly, the popular animals here are used as entertainment in shows so it feels a lot more like a hybrid SeaWorld/aquarium than an actual aquarium. To a small extent, I enjoyed seeing the dolphins and whales. I mostly, however, was saddened by their small enclosures and forced performances. The facilities for the animals are pretty outdated. Honestly, I enjoyed the beluga plushies in the museum store more than watching the poor creatures do tricks. Their trainers do seem to love them. But it's still just too sad to watch. I prefer the conservation-minded aquariums that don't exploit their animals (shoutout to Monterey Aquarium, one of favorite places).

They did have displays of deep sea creatures (all dead). Reminded me of biology class in college and was interesting.
One weird cultural thing is that Japanese people love their seafood. Not only is it not uncommon to hear someone remark about how tasty a displayed animal is, you might even see a food display right next to the animal. That's just macabre. In my case, they had a little display of sauces and foods prepared from jellyfish, right next to the jellyfish tank...
