We spent one night here and were very pleased with our stay. We had a room with a washbasin and a shared toilet, which was stated clearly at the time of booking. This was however no problem for us, since the bathroom was very clean. The room was small, yet clean and cozy. The hotel is old fashioned, which I think adds to the Montparnasse atmosphere. Such a price worthy hotel in the heart of Paris is hard to come by! We were in walking distance to Quartier Latin, Notre Dame, and the Seine. The staff were also friendly and gave us good recommendations for places to eat in the vicinity.

The room is quite small but clean. There is a private bathroom and separate The room price is not too expensive. The transportation is convenient and safe. There is a breakfast for only 10 euros per person.

The hotel has shared bathrooms (additional cost €2.50 per shower), but there is a sink in the room. They have their rules (no hot food and no visitors in the rooms etc.), but they take care to communicate them quickly. Very good price for a central location at Gobelins.

Disaappointing hotel. Room clean but very cramped and shower room tiny. Experience redeemed only by staff who were uniformly friendly and helpful. Good breakfast. Good location for Mouffetard Market and Left Bank generally, Wouldn't stay there again.

Room was gross. Bed must not have been cleaned because had previous peoples hairs all over it and spiders. Not clean and staff wasn’t helpful. Zero accommodations. Check in time was not flexible. Would never stay again. Overpriced. We are friendly and grateful people. Still saying hello and gave many thanks to the staff. Not sure what bot responded below.

Avoid this hotel – unprofessional staff, poor location, and uncomfortable stay I stayed here recently and had an extremely disappointing experience. I initially wrote a review sharing what happened, and the hotel has since responded with a very misleading and selective version of events. So I want to clarify everything here — both to share my experience and to correct their public response. When I arrived at the hotel, I was given a room on the ground floor right next to the reception. From inside the room, I could hear people arriving, talking, and moving around — all very clearly. The hotel’s response claims the room was “garden-facing” and “quiet,” but that doesn’t change the fact that it was next to the noisiest part of the hotel. Whether it faced a garden or a wall is irrelevant if you hear every conversation at the front desk through your door. Not liking the room, I went back and politely asked if I could change. The receptionist was arrogant and dismissive from the beginning. He asked me, “Are you expecting visitors tonight?” — a completely inappropriate and unnecessary question that made me feel uncomfortable. I simply wanted a more comfortable, quieter room. I even told him I would happily pay the price difference or even pay for an entirely new room — just to avoid sleeping in the one I had been given. Despite this, he refused, saying I couldn’t change because I had “already opened the room.” I had only looked at the room — I hadn’t used it, and it was obviously still clean and untouched. His only response was, “C’est la règle” — “That’s the rule” — delivered with complete indifference. No willingness to help, no customer care, no flexibility, even though I was willing to pay. In their response, the hotel claims they “would have preferred to speak with me directly” — but I did try to resolve it in person. I was standing there at the front desk, calm and polite, asking for help. I wasn’t rushing or being unreasonable. I was simply met with arrogance and refusal. That’s not a misunderstanding — that’s poor service. The hotel claims it is in the “historic heart” of Paris, but that’s a misleading description. Yes, it is technically located in the 5th arrondissement, near the Latin Quarter and the Panthéon. But for most visitors, especially those interested in exploring major attractions — like the Louvre, Le Marais, the Champs-Élysées, or even Saint-Germain-des-Prés — this location is relatively isolated. It’s south of the Seine, away from where most cultural, shopping, and dining activities happen. While the area may have some historical landmarks, it is not central in the way most travelers would expect when booking a hotel to explore Paris. As for the room itself, it didn’t feel clean, welcoming, or well-maintained. The hotel can claim hygiene is their strong point, but in my experience, it absolutely wasn’t. I ended up booking another hotel that same evening — even though I had already paid for this one — just to avoid staying here. Paris has many better hotels in similar price ranges, with better locations and far better service. I would absolutely not recommend this place to anyone.

This is a very small hotel with limited amenities. It was okay that the room didn't have a toilet or shower, it was informed right away during booking. Overall it's clean and the location is good. But service :( isn't it weird how one rude word or gesture can ruin the whole experience? The Indian guy at the counter spoke, it seems, without harsh words, but just the way he handled himself and talked to me and my friend made me feel like I want to discourage people from ever visiting this hotel

Very basic hotel. I'd advise to book a room with a bathroom in it. Breakfast insisted of cold croissants and rolls. Would have preferred some hot food selections. So.e of the staff were really helpful, others left a lot to be desired. All in all, for a short weekend break, it was OK.

Yelp
Never book with Booking.com again, especially with PORT ROYAL HOTEL. 2 months before our holiday, we accidentally booked a 5-day Paris Hotel for a ridiculous price of €1300. Immediately, contacted booking.com about the error and they told us to contact the hotel. PORT ROYAL HOTEL in paris - worst hotel customer service ever - said that it is not refundable and that we should just contact our insurance company. They charged me and got fully paid for it. So we figured, alright, might as well get our money's worth. 2 months later, on our scheduled arrival date with the hotel, our trains got delayed. We immediately contacted PORT ROYAL HOTEL in paris and told them that we would be arriving the following day. Less than 24 hrs from the scheduled check-in. The hotel then CANCELLED our 5 day reservation, marked us as NO SHOWS, and we were literally left on the streets of Paris, without any place of accommodations. We had to booked yet another hotel on the spot because of this and incurred more damage to us. When we reported it with booking.com, they said that they had no power to do anything and then, did not reply anymore. Basically, they got €1300 from us without providing a single worth of service. Worst third party platform ever. Worst hotel ever. They should be answering to a higher form of government that can do check and balance on them. Because this was basically a scam. Booking.com even has POLICIES for their hotel partners to only mark clients as NO SHOWS, after 48 hours from their supposed check-in date. Port Royal Hotel then messaged us again with the exact same template - "they cannot do anything, we should just contact our insurance company" - because they basically stole money from tourist and that's what they do. Reference number: 3225822359 I see from the reviews here that they also did the same thing to other clients. And then they defensively deny it with their replies. We can provide receipts and correspondence to ANYONE thinking about booking this place. Please don't make the same mistake we did. To lose €1300 is not a laughing matter. This establishment should answer for the scam of a hotel its running. Its ruining the experience of staying in Paris with it. We are also going to report this to the proper authorities. I just wanted to let others know so no one can experience the same anguish booking.com and PORT ROYAL HOTEL did to us.

Yelp
I stayed at the Hotel Port Royal on a recent trip to France. I stayed in Paris for a day and a night before continuing on to Rennes via train. I stayed at Hotel Port Royal based on the recommendation of a friend who lives in Paris. There is a funny story though because she meant to recommend the Hotel "Pont" Royal, which is fancier and more expensive. However, she sent me the web link to Hotel Port Royal. I saw that that Hotel PORT Royal had a great location for my convenience and was pretty close to the metro/RER train. Based on this and the "recommendation" I received I booked it. The bottom line for me is that this hotel was a good value for the money and I would recommend it. I received excellent service throughout my stay. Everyone was super nice at the hotel and had English language skills. Hotel Port Royal offers clean spartan rooms. There were no TV's in the rooms. Some of the rooms do not have a toilet and instead, you need to use the WC in the hall. I booked on the website and saw this ahead of time and made sure I had a full bath in my room. If I had to say two things about Hotel Port Royal I would say it offers "no frills but good value". I recommend it (even if my friend did not!)

Yelp
Affordable, No Frills Hotel Near The Metro Line Port-Royal Hotel is not fancy. Like most Paris hotel rooms, our double room was very small. It consisted of a mediocre bed, wardrobe instead of a closet, desk and one chair. The bathroom was equally small, with a shower and just enough room to turn around. The room did not have a TV or a safe. However, our room was clean and affordable, starting at 88 Euro (about $115) a night for a double. Equally important, Port-Royal is located on the Number 7 Metro Line, providing easy access to the tourist areas. A one minute walk takes you from the hotel's entrance to the Les Gobelins subway station. The friendly staff at the front desk provided helpful information! They offered good directions, and held our passports in the hotel safe until our departure. Located in a more residential area of downtown Paris, south of the Latin District, there is less of a touristy atmosphere. Parisians are living life all around you. A small grocery store and bakery used by the locals are conveniently located across the street. We did not try the breakfast that the hotel offers for an additional 8 Euro per person. Instead, we purchased fresh, flakey quiches from the bakery across the street for 3 Euro. The hotel rules state that no food or drinks are allowed in the rooms, which we found challenging. Booking this hotel in advance is a task. Port-Royal does not accept credit cards. In order to reserve a room in advance, the hotel staff will email wire transfer directions for a deposit, the cost of one night. This adds to the total cost of the hotel, and is a major inconvenience. Cash payment for the remainder of the stay is required upon checkout. Hopefully Port-Royal Hotel will change this policy. Even though the there are some negatives to this hotel, if we go back to Paris, we would stay at Port-Royal again in a heartbeat.

Yelp
A budget friendly hotel in a great part of Paris! I'd been researching places to stay in Paris before my trip and stumbled upon this place on TripAdvisor. Originally we had booked a hotel a lot farther out for almost the same price. Hotel Port Royal is located in the 5th arrondissement, just a little of Rue Mouffetard (loved the outdoor market!) and the Latin Quarter. Lots of great attractions nearby and pretty much everything in Paris is walkable. It is a safe neighborhood too, so you don't feel out of place walking back at night as a tourist. Although called a hotel, I felt like it was more of a hostel. The room we booked was a double room with a bathroom outside of the room. It was 58 euros a night. For a private bathroom it is 84 euros a night. The bathrooms and showers were very clean though. And during the time we stayed, I hardly saw anyone using them. The only caveat is that to shower, it costs 2.50 euro for every 5 minutes. You pay for the token at the front desk. It is doable though, and the water pressure is strong so you can shower pretty quickly. The room we had was really small, but clean. I had a requested a quiet room, that faces the interior court yard. If you request a room facing the street, I think they are larger. It had a wash basin, wardrobe and small desk. The room had french windows facing out. We were on the second floor though and didn't see much. I'd request a room facing the street next time. The only thing I didn't like? The bed!!It sunk the middle and my back would be sore in the morning. =( Also, I wouldn't bother with breakfast in the morning. For 6 euros a person, all you get is coffee or hot chocolate, french bread and some butter. Nothing wrong with the food, but I'd rather walk to a pastisserie and get fresh sandwich baguettes for a cheaper price. Also, lots of tiny markets nearby, so you can buy some food. We told the staff that we were going to arrive early. Got there at 9am and our room wasn't ready till about 1pm. Not a big deal. We had a place to store our luggage, but we were tired and hoping to rest. At night, it seems the front desk closes by 2am, so for those late owls, I'm not sure how they would get back in. Overall, it worked out. For the price, I'm not expecting much, I just wished the beds were more comfortable.

Yelp
A charming little hotel situated just off the main districts of Paris. The staff were friendly, the room was clean and best of all the bed was extremely comfortable. Also, the windows thoroughly blocked out the noise of traffic just outside the apartment. All in all a great experience.

Yelp
If you plan on going to Paris in the Summer, don't stay here (no AC). If you plan on hanging in your room more than checking the sites, don't stay here (Not a place to hang all day, no tv). My plan was to have a clean bed to sleep in at the end of the day, this hotel was PERFECT for just that. They had only a room without a shower available at the time so that sucked for me but I still was able to shower in a clean shower so it wasn't much of an inconvenience. The 5 min shower should be at least 7-10minutes but it still worked for me, as long as I was showered, I didn't need much longer. (clean your body and get out lol) The walls are thin so you can hear neighbors, etc. but the area was PERFECT. Great local restaurants, cafes, and bakeries. The people at the front desk are fantastic! (Olivier is the best!) The cleaning staff were friendly and did a great job! (thank you Laurence!) The metro and bus system is very close by, I was able to stop back at the room between places which was very convenient, I didn't have to go everywhere with my souvenirs. The breakfast was decent, I had it one of the days of my stay. The wifi was great! I was able to update my friends on facebook with photos and status updates with no problem. Most of all, I enjoyed Paris and if I return, this hotel will be one of my options to return to (as long as it's not summertime, No ac)
