"Slip off the beaten track and find the beer lovers gem that is Port Street Beer House. Established in 2011, this friendly watering hole is a firm favourite amongst both locals and tourists who have travelled to the pub having heard about the well-kept beers and friendly staff. The pub stocks beer from both local and far flung breweries, with seven hand pumps, eighteen draft lines and over one hundred bottled beers, you will never run out of choice." - The Neighbourhood

Very good pub in a former shop about 10 minutes walk from Manchester Piccadilly Station. Seven cask beers on handpump when I last visited including two oatmeal stouts. Plenty of outdoor seating in the beer garden to the rear, most of it covered. The bar is on the ground floor and there is an upstairs room. The toilets are on the second floor but there is an accessible toilet on the ground floor.

Cracking beer house/taproom. Plenty of craft and cask on tap. Staff friendly, seating out front and out the back. Good atmosphere inside

Great pub. Super choice of beers and knowledgeable staff. Would definitely visit again.

Visited for a couple of pints early evening on a weekday. Great service from the chaps behind the bar. Huge selection of beers. Definitely worth a visit.

Brilliant craft beer selection, local bar snacks (best pork pie I've ever had). Nice and clean, lovely decor and artwork on the walls. All the best things about craft beer/real ale pubs without being sticky and dingy. Would definitely go back. The downstairs bar was busy, but there was also a nice looking seating area upstairs which looked quieter.

Lovely pub, lots of choice. Beer garden to the rear and plenty of seating upstairs too. Appreciated the free sanitary products in the bathroom - a lovely touch! Also dog friendly!

Great bar for trying a new ale as they change quite regularly, Great atmosphere. Bar snacks from Littlewoods Pies

Yelp
I'm pretty sure I'd be here every weekend if I lived in this part of Manchester. Port Street Beer House is an unassuming little pub with a fantastic (and massive) list of brews, both local and international. Service is friendly and efficient, and even the stronger stuff on the menu won't set you back too much: a pint of most beers will run £4-5. I grabbed a pint of a super-fresh saison from Blackjack (a Manchester-based brewery) and enjoyed it in the small-ish garden out back. The only drawbacks? It get can very packed---and it's cash only.

Jessica H.

Yelp
We frequent Port Street quite often - for a quiet Wednesday drink, to hunker down with a pack of cards on a Saturday, or one of many local beer related events such as the Indy Man Beer Con launch - so I'm usually far too many pints in to remember anything for a review the next day. Needless to say, it's a firm favourite. Our recent trip was for the Cloudwater spring launch, where they gradually released a variety of keg and cask beers from the brewery as a 'first look' at the new lines. As these were drip fed, I went off the Cloudwater after only one pint, but I think it's a great idea nonetheless. I enjoyed my US Light Mosaic very much and could finally taste the difference between keg and cask; perhaps the final stage in my ongoing beer education! The seating is split over two levels and there are larger tables, often shared between a variety of parties, upstairs. I'm reliably told that there is also a beer garden worth frequenting during the warmer months. I love the dark wood and general feel of Port Street - balancing that fine line between pub and bar. Staff are friendly and customers more so, and there's no real pressure to drink beer as they have a selection of cider and wine also. Follow them on Twitter for updates on their boards and they're often changing, and you never know what you might be missing out on!

Yelp
Still feels great walking into this place, like you've found a hidden gem! You definitely need to know where it is to find it though as it's a little off the beaten track and no proper sign outside. The main draw inside is the huge choice of real ales, craft beers and ciders on offer which are amazing. Great little outside beer garden too! Check it out!!

Yelp
Here's another of my favourite city centre drinking spots well overdue an update after a dozen visits. Their regular meet-the-brewer and tap takeover evenings make for interesting events (albeit they're extremely popular so get tickets/arrive early doors). They also regularly get involved with collaborative beers so are heavily involved in the Manchester beer scene. The latest takeover, by Siren Craft Brew from Wokingham in Berkshire, made me as giddy as a kid in a sweet shop as they're one of my best loved UK breweries. A friend and I got there for dead-on 5pm when it started and were third and fourth in the queue (which grew quickly!). PSBH may be slightly tucked away on the end of the NQ but they've remained a wildly popular two storey drinking den, established before the likes of BrewDog arrived in Manchester. Expect to find a few more edgy keg beers available at the bar amidst the 20-or-so pumps, with the fridges behind them filled with over 100 bottles. They're now firmly on my shortlist of pubs I recommend to visiting friends. Tip: if the weather is fine try and grab a seat in their small beer garden.

Yelp
Pretentious as hell and hipster filled to the max... This place is awesome and embraces the fact that it wants to be a more traditional ale drinking experience whilest not being a one man and his dog, stale beer house. The ale is excellent quality and the staff dont try and shove the expensive stuff at you, theyll always warn you if what you order comes with a high price tag before they pour it. My go-to drinking hole!

Yelp
Port Street should be high on any lover of craft beers hit list, whether living in Manchester or just in town visiting it's perfect place to pop in for 1 or 2 (and see what their amazing list of guest beers is offering this week) or spend a long afternoon in warmth working your way through their extensive range while catching up with friends. That extensive list includes around 20 beers on tap, with at least 100 bottles on offer - mainly sourced from some of the finest USA, UK and Scandinavian breweries around. Prices are fairly high but no more than you'd pay in any other city for the same craft beer - it is though always worth checking the price (and strength) before you order a pint of that rare, one barrel produced collaboration between 2 of your favourite breweries - it could be time to get a new mortgage! There's a large lounge room upstairs and beer garden out the back with ample seating for around 40. Capacity is one problem with this place and it can get very very busy at the weekends so try to get in early or go offpeak. Don't miss out on their regular "meet the brewers" nights on a Monday evening. What usually starts off as a civilised tasting of a few very good beers turns into a bit of a Monday night session - something that's no good for anyone. These monthly events have been known to make Tuesday's very hard work in the past :-) They also run nearby Common and Chorlton's The Beagle - plus Indy Man Beer con so make sure you check these out to complete the full set!

Yelp
I actually tried some beer here which I could tell was probably very advanced and delicious but unfortunately I am not advanced enough to drink a whole delicious pint. The cider on tap was excellent thought - a little sweet which is nice given still ciders can often be powerfully and somewhat undrinkably sour. Staff were extremely helpful and readily offered samples. Loads of place to sit upstairs so great for groups, although overall it's slightly lacking in atmosphere.

Garrett P.

Yelp
It's like a little beer-loving paradise, within the even bigger beer-loving island that is Manchester. The selection alone available here warrants a full 4 stars. There's something for everyone -- even the people I begrudgingly put up with that don't typically enjoy a pint or two. What's that, you only drink German wheat beers with hops grown organically in Oregon? Ask the bartender - they've probably got it. Personally, I prefer a strong hoppy IPA, and have never left disappointed with their choices. That's saying something in Manchester, where many a pub fail to acquire something exciting to drink. Add to all of this the great atmosphere of Port Street Beer House and you've got the makings of a favourite. A lot of seating area both upstairs and down (though it's usually so busy it's hard to find a spot), and a decent beer garden in the back. I'm almost happy this is located in such an awkward area toward the end of the busy streets, because if it was any closer to City Centre they'd definitely be rammed daily. There are many pubs in Manchester, but few truly great ones. Port Street has to be one of the top 3 on my list.

Ying L.

Yelp
A lot of people have raved on about this place. Previously, I couldn't find this place as I was walking around NQ looking for a pub. I went with a group of people on a Friday night after going to UpInYourGrill and was surprised to see an unassuming front exterior flanked by a couple of bouncers. The place was heaving and the air con blowing a cold gale. The bar staff seemed very friendly and knowledgeable. If it hadn't been busy, I am sure we'd been able to sample before we bought. I decided to go for the Yang IPA which was a bit strong, nice taste but wasn't heavy. I scoped around upstairs which has a lot of seating and wasn't busy and managed to get us all seats. A nice beer house to visit if you like your craft beers, but not a place to stay in all night as it is a bit pricey. What I like about this place is that it is well lit, no music so great for hanging out with friends.

Mimi W.

Yelp
They have so many different beers here & I randomly chose a wheat larger which was quite nice. I liked that they had wifi password written on the wall which made it easy for customers to stay connected to the Internet. There is also a garden close to the bar which should be nice for the sunny days.

Yelp
From last weeks Saturday day time crawl again...what a great bar! Big group of 10 out who really appreciated the large outside tables we could all get round together. Every other bar we only had one drink in before moving on...here we had 3. Great and vast selection of beers, knowledgable staff, full of like minded people all a bonus...only downside was a trek up 2 flights of stairs to the toilets but hey, it gave us a break from drinking! Can't fault it really. Was first time visiting but will definitely be back.

Jessica D.

Yelp
A few of a us popped in for the final drink of the evening. We'd just consumed a large quantity of chicken so I feeling particularly full and didn't feel like beer. I chose the whiskey option and as neither I, nor the bar man, knew what type of whiskey I might like we had a good old honest chat about it. That's good service. I will definitely be coming back here for beer - the selection is incredible and the pub has a great relaxed vibe. A reliable beer hole.

Elisabeth N.

Yelp
Super place for beer lovers. They have a good selection of both drafted and bottled ones. In my experience it tends to get a bit crowded during the evenings, so if you want to just sample some beers, try to get her a little bit earlier. What I also like is that the staff seemed knowledgeable and genuinely interested in beers. Which is awesome! Price was ok as well, nothing to expensive so you can sample quite a bit before you need to call your mom for a transfer! Not the most fancy looking pub/bar I have seen in my life, but it has its charm and if I ever go back to Manchester I will definitively go back to this place to grab some beers! (Happy to see that they also did Norwegian beers there!)

Shrimoyee C.

Yelp
This is a mecca for beer lovers! Their menu appalled me because I haven't seen such an extensive more than 10 page menu just dedicated to beer! They have all kinds of beers you name it and I can bet that they will definitely have it! The bartender (who is also the owner) has the most amazing dreadlocks and sense of humor so it's always a good laugh while you place your order. I am a sucker for wheat beer and they have several varieties of that (which makes me very happy), besides if you are a fan of dark beer or ale do try their 56% brewdog dark beer. The pub has two floors and an outdoor patio (great during summer) to sip on chilled beer and have a smoke! This place gets quite busy even on weekdays but the crowd is usually chilled out and sophisticated (No brawls or Chavvy fights here). My Verdict: If you are a Beer lover like me then this will be your next hangout in town! Tall, Short, Wheat, Dark, and Fruity they have them all here!

Andrew Y.

Yelp
If your a fan of craft beers, then you will want to visit Port Street. Its got a wide selection of all sorts. Personally speaking, I am boring with my beer and just like "lager". I know some people won't call it proper beer but I like what I like. I have been here 2-3 times before and I think I most if not all occasions, I had the beer called Flensburger. So if you like me, go for that. Its something like £3.80 a pint. I have always visited on a Friday or Saturday but always have managed to find a seat/table. There is seating both downstairs and upstairs (and outside too).

Andy W.

Yelp
Excellent place with good Beer and a great Atmosphere. If you don't want a run of the mill 'Pub' full of louts who are just there to get leg-less as quickly as is humanly possible, then this is your sort of establishment. What We have here great beers and Ales from all over the world and an ever changing cask selection. This place even Sports a Beer at £45 a pint, and doesn't sell soft drinks! Incredible! Doesn't do any Food, but has great nuts ;)

Ashley F.

Yelp
Just on the outer edge of the Northern Quarter and conveniently close to Piccadilly Station this is a popular and busy venue with great ales and lagers (ask for a taster if you can't decide). It has a busy youngish (well, late 20-30's) crowd and a vibrant atmosphere. It doesn't exactly have a beer garden but there are tables to fight for out front and is a great after work meeting point. The upper floor, quieter and more chilled has tons of space and tables so even when the place feels heaving seating should still be available.

Claire P.

Yelp
The best place for real ale in Manchester city centre!! There's a huge variety of ales to choose from, both bottled and on tap. The chalk boards around the bar give you information about the guest ales and if you want further information or a little taster the staff are very knowledgeable and friendly.

Usman A.

Yelp
It has an great selection of draught and bottled beers from around the world and it is unlikely that anyone will be unable to find something to their taste. The bar staff are friendly to add to the enjoyment. Worth seeking out on the edge of the NQ, especially if you are a beer lover.

Beki A.

Yelp
I had never been in this pub before, despite walking past it to the gym car park for about the last 2 years! Feel a bit ashamed I've past this gem of an ale house so many times now! Ah well, I've been in, and sampled some awesome ales in the run up to the Manchester beer festival. To be honest, its not my sort of place but I'm up for coming back and seeing what ciders they have on offer!

Hannah R.

Yelp
I love this place. Everything of importance has been carefully considered and anything that isn't so important gets a 'that'll do' approach. I like that. What does it matter that the front door looks like it's off my Nan's conservatory? They concentrate on the things that matter; beer and beer. The staff are always really friendly with heads (and beards) full of knowledge. Never judgemental, unlike some of the bars in the Northern Quarter, they ask what you enjoy and offer advice, and samples, to suit. The branding is lovely, the menus are great, it's comfortable and it's not trying to be anything that it's not. Sure the drinks can be expensive but it's a classic example of getting what you pay for. The clientele, soundtrack and atmosphere match the laid back, front-room style decor perfectly. The nut selection is amazing. The array of beers even more so. Again proving their true love for the craft, they organise 'Meet the Brewer' events to get Manchester even more excited and clued up about beer. Big love for this place. Big, beery love.

Emma Louise M.

Yelp
If the New Oxford just off Chapel Street were a hip Northern Quarter bar, it'd probably look a little something like Port Street Beer House. Both boast mind-boggling beer bibles with a vast selection of ales to choose from, both are cosy, intimate and quite cleanly streamlined, and both offer a little something for everyone. They might seem a little masculine on surface glance, but that's just society what assumes that, like. Anyway, it's not related to the New Oxford. It's related to Common! (Thanks for the tip, John L.) It was one Toby S who introduced me to the delights of this little spot, stocker of one of my favourite fruit beer brands which is Timmermans. They have many flavours here including the elusive cherry, which I can only seem to find at Solomon Grundy in Withington. Now I know! On a Friday night post-work hours we actually managed to find seats, which was a bonus, and for once a Northern Quarter establishment felt friendly and warm as opposed to obnoxiously cool and stand-offish as they can sometimes do. It does what it says on the tin - it's on Port Street and it serves masses of beer. Job done!

Floriana A.

Yelp
Port Street Beer House is not a place where you can randomly end up, the entrance is almost inconspicuous and there are not huge panels indicating its presence. Still, I had heard great things about it, even from those among my friends that are much knowledgeable about beers. And yes, now I can say that I confidently share their opinion. It's a great place with a great selection of beers. To be fair it took me several minutes to decide which beer to take, with the result of reading and rereading all the several names of beers written on the blackboards that cover the walls behind the counter. Finally, the best idea was asking for a tasting. Furthermore, I quite enjoyed the decor, that is plane but with a few characteristics of a traditional pub. While heading to the toilets (that are on the second floor) I noticed that the place is much bigger than I had thought, also with outside sitting in the garden.

Toby S.

Yelp
The first thing about Port Street Beer House, is that unless you're told its there, the likely-hood and stumbling across it is is fairly minimal, on the edge of the Northern Quarter and tucked behind a pub at the end of a Port Street you'd be forgiven for missing it as the front isn't in your face, and this is all definitely a good thing. The Beer house, is a pub meant for Beer drinkers, I don't mean that Promo Seeking Night life who will drink whatever is on the Happy hour special, it is very much intended for the person who wants to drink Beers to experience a myriad of flavours in their face. This can come at an expense. many of the Beers are certainly not the cheapest you will find, and when you get above a certain ABV the pint pots go away and out come the Halves and tasting glasses and on the really strong stuff you will be asked how many glasses you want to go with your bottle, I do not see this as a negative though, it shows a responsibility to the enjoyment of drinking that is often overlooked and in general the price goes up with the percentage. You will see the pub filled with many people of a variety of ages happily sipping from a glass of whatever wondrous beverage caught their eye, but just in case you are panicking there are some beers that are at regular prices. There are other drinks available, however they aren't really advertised that much, you will have to look and ask to find them. Food is kept to bar snacks of a £1 a bowl reasonable for what you get. The Staff are friendly and more than happy to give a recommendation, which can often be a blessing as you look at the vast selection of Beer on tap or bottled. One thing which I think should be highlighted largely on this is that the staff will recommend a beer and they will tell you the price before opening or pouring if more that £5, which I find quite a reassuring trait. The Beer Garden, is quite 'cosey' so don't go with the sole intention of being able to get a seat outside. The Beer menu is a nice touch on your table, and is useful for getting an idea of price ranges, however alot of the beers are often rotating so don't set you're heart on something off the menu. I have tried the cheapest to the expensive (TNC the £45 beer is lovely, though not something you'd drink on your own all night at 32%) and all the beer is awesome if you want to expand your knowledge of what is out there. The Port Street Beer House is a must for anyone who wants to enjoy beer filled with heart and soul.

Yelp
Tucked around the southern end of the Northern Quarter, this pub's emphasis is strongly on beer, as you might expect: a large range of bottled ales are available, along with several draft choices, often from the Prospect and Dark Star microbreweries. A sister to the great bar Common, this is definitely more pubbish in concept: you won't find a DJ here, or food beyond crisps and nuts, and the place typically closes at midnight. Having said that, there's still a young urban vibe to the place: this isn't an old man's pub by any stretch of the imagination. There are wines (and spirits) available, but it's evident they aren't the main focus here. The staff really know their onions when it comes to the beers available, and sport impressive beards. You might ask them if anyone's ever bought the £45 bottle of beer on sale. There's a small beer garden to the rear, and a second floor upstairs with more seating.

Nicole B.

Yelp
If you are looking for the best choice of beer in Manchester - this is the place for you. With the choice of beers expanding by the day you will never be disappointed at the vast array of beers offered by Port Street Beer House. The staff are incredibly experienced and will answer any questions you may have about their ales, and they are very good at recommending based on your existing taste too. They are also very good at warning you when you order the most expensive - none of them will rip you off and would rather recommend you order a half pint. They also have a great beer garden, all be it compact, where you are bound to meet some characters. Some people do say that Port Street is expensive - and yes it is one of the pricier drinking holes. But the quality and choice of the ale is way beyond it's competitors, so well worth a visit.

Emily B.

Yelp
Port Street Beer House is just the sort of place I like. Focusing on beer, with staff who will offer you a taste and chat to you about your choices. Those who've read my other reviews may remember that one of my pet peeves is self-styled 'good beer' pubs where the staff seem unduly annoyed with you asking for a taste of a beer, or for a recommendation. I went here for post-work drinks and worked my way through a few different dark milds and stouts, all delicious, before defecting to pints of Moravka to end the night. My stay was sadly too short as the group disbanded after a few hours, but I really hope to get back here very soon to sup more ale. Cheers!

George M.

Yelp
Great selection of beers, not the usual stuff here only if the beers would be colder, great atmosphere quiet the music is on the low side

Nicolas R.

Yelp
What ?? I haven't reviewed PSBH yet ?? Bloody hell I'm late to the party. Although I will find minor issues, I have to give this place a full 5-star considering how much it did to mine and pretty much all Mancunians' knowledge of beer and most certainly the independant breweries across the UK and the rest of the world. I defy you to have a bad beer or bad advice in this place. The decor is on the boring side but it's clean, tidy and generally very well maintained compare to most places. The music, when you can hear it is really good, there's a small beer garden at the back and to custom is honest and happy. No TV, no footie, no crap beer...unfortunately no food either but there is no kitchen so what can we do. Some will say the beers are expensive but I never felt that the quality wasn't matching the price. There are other places a bit cheaper towards Stockport but for good beers in the NQ there isn't an ounce of doubt on where to go.

Max H.

Yelp
By rights, Port Street Beer House (PSBH) should be my local. I live nearby, it has a stunning selection of beers, a huge number of which are on draught, and incredibly knowledgeable staff. But something's off. I don't know if it's the atmosphere: it seems like it would be a fantastic place to while away an afternoon, but I've never been for more than 2 pints without escaping elsewhere. Is it too closed in? Dark (Beer garden excepted)? Loud, even? I can't quite put my finger on it. Whatever it is, it's not my local. EDIT: A friend, Matt, upon a recent visit, described it more as an afternoon beer cafe than a drinking establishment. I think this is getting closer to the point - after all, it was gone 11PM at the time... There's another reason why this place isn't my local, and that's the price. PSBH tends to be 10-20% more expensive than the average for craft beer in Manchester, which is frustrating, really, and not something that can easily be explained just through their admittedly massive selection. I can, though, only echo what others have said about PSBH: if you're into your craft beer, you must at least try it. I might also point out that it was here that I had the nicest draught pint ever: Schneider Weisse Tap X: Meine Sommer Weisse. At £7, though, I could only justify one.

Paul W.

Yelp
For two years I lived in Ancoats, and by far the best thing about the location was having Port St BH as my local. Amazing craft beers, from some fairly standard beers (Erdinger is about as mainstream as it gets) to the craft microbreweries to the bizarre ( the 30% beer was always taunting me, but never quite had the guts to give it a shot). While the selection of beers is amongst the best in Central Manchester, I feel the setting leaves a lot to be desired. While it is clean and spotless, its decor is plain as can be. The main seating area upstairs is just a room with some dining tables and chairs (it feels like hanging out in a stranger's dining room!). A few booths and comfy chairs would really make all the difference to make the Beer House a Beer Home! With a bit more comfort, I'm sure the overall atmosphere would greatly improve too. It's nothing short of frustrating to see a place that is so great not even try to take a few simple steps to perfection!!! With such a great selection of beers I don't have the heart to give Port St 3 stars, but with a tiny bit of effort in the decor it would be an easy 5 stars. Please do it PSBH!!!! I beg you!!!!!

Shaun P.

Yelp
Clearly a very popular bar on the edge of the northern quarter. It basically compromises the bar downstairs and one sitting room with many tables upstairs. It's an ideal place if there is a large group of people. They specialize in alternative brands of beers. I had the draft cider that was delicious, and at 8% it hit the spot very quickly. Was semi sweet and cloudy and still. Not my particular kind of bar as I thought lacked character and ambiance but as I was with a group the focus was definitely being together and chatting.

Hesseh S.

Yelp
Bright clean modern with a touch of the traditional . Seating quite well spaced possibly too well spaced . But comfortable and without music . Beer selection good and well kept .

Rachael T.

Yelp
Popped in here on one of my Sunday lunch ventures having just grabbed a bite to eat at the blue pig. Was surprised by the amount of different ales and beer there's on offer and the knowledge of the bar staff! My friend wanted something he described as "hoppy but not chewy" so the lady behind the bar seemed to understand this statement and proceeded to recommended a couple of beers and let him sample. I on the other hand not liking the sound of either hoppy or chewy when it comes to choosing beer went for "fruity" and was presented with a fruit beer they only sell in halves which i suspect is for health and safety purposes as it was a strong one!! It was nice relaxed and cozy feeling inside and yes you can have a good chin wag as the music isn't lifting the ceiling off ( god i sound like my mum!!). Will be back to try some more beers as it seems they change them on a regular basis which is great and i like the fact that you can have a little taste before you commit to a full glass worth.

Beck R.

Yelp
Beer drinkers paradise. The menu of drinks is extensive and continues to introduce new breweries regularly. The cider drinkers have a number of good options too. I like that port street Beer House is a proper pub. No music and all chat. Its one to sit down at with friends, losing an entire evening talking until the early hours (or at least until they kick you out). Its 2 floors so you can generally get a seat at any time. The bar staff are friendly and the door men even friendlier. The only tip i have is to check the price of your beer before you order. Some of the specials can be very very expensive! But thats the great thing about port street, they seek out the unique beers that no other bar in Manchester does.

Duncan W.

Yelp
MMMM mmmm MMMM beer, Those who know me know how much I love a great beer and this is one of the places to be in Manchester. I love the fact they have such an extensive range of beers on Keg, Cask and in bottle. There really is something for everybody in here. This is one of those bars where if your not into your beers you can be sure the bar staff will recommend something you'll like. The staff are all lovely and really helpful. Local regulars will make you feel at home. I was only able to stay for a couple of drinks on this visit but I'll defiantly be back soon to sample even more of their beery delights.

Chloe C.

Yelp
It needs to be said, this place has some nice wines too, for those of us who don't drink beer. I recommend the Macabeo. Also has a nice little beer garden and seating for large groups upstairs.

Ina B.

Yelp
Went here to catch up with an old friend of mine. Really pleased with the fact that the level of noise made it possible to have a normal conversation. The selection of beer is great and the staff is great at recommending beers if you don't know what you want. Great place for beer lovers. I'll be back!

Yelp
It's a while since I've been here and I've only visited a couple of times, but I have been disappointed with the service on each occasion. Unfortunately, my belief is that they hire 'hipsters' over 'bartenders' and the first time I set foot in here (and at that point, not a beer drinker), I was made to feel quite ridiculous for asking if they had anything other than beer. A cool bar in nice surrounds with a good ethos is sadly spoilt by unfriendly staff who suffer from a little too much pretention. I'm prepared to give it another go, but thus far, unfortunately, unimpressed.

Yelp
Always excellent. Great little bar with real ales galore. My only regret is that I chose a pint of chili and chocolate stout once. I previously enjoyed a chocolate stout and assumed I'd also enjoy the chili addition. After all I do have chocolate in chili quite often. Not so with this one. I needed 4 regular pints before I called it a night. All I could taste all evening was the spicy hit of the chili which ruined the rest of my night...I chalk that one down to experience. Barman even had the decency to not laugh at my discomfort.

Yelp
These lot do craft with perfection. Some say it's a bit pricey but considering the awesome quality and dedicated staff it's well worth a visit :D

Yelp
Cozy place with a nice selection of cask beers! Nice patio too, but not for this time of the year ;)

Yelp
Had an amble around Newton Street and it's environs and by chance walked down Port Street and found the Beer House. What a find indeed! Great choice of beer, friendly staff who gave us tastes of the ale on offer. I am an avid "people watcher" and sitting in the windows watching passers by was just up my street. I will certainly be calling in often. I get a lot of overseas visitors and they will love it too

Yelp
Another great craft beer bar in the centre of Manchester. They have a great selection of craft beer on and also have one or two sour beers on, which is great. The staff are friendly and kept checking to see if people were being served or not. The interior inside is like a standard pub but I love the logo/sign in the window!

Yelp
This is probably my favourite contemporary drinking haunt in central Manchester. I love how they have the breweries in to give talks. I love that they have an endless range of beers. Yes, it's fair to say you can spend a fortune if you want - £7 SEVEN for a pint of the IPA infront of me at the bar! Unlike some other Northern Quarter establishments they do have some more modest priced, but still great quality beers! A couple at £3. They've a small beer garden in the summer. Generally pretty busy after work on a Friday, but can be great late on during Saturday. How many places actually have a menu of beer? Fantastic! Ask for a taster if you're not sure. Some of the bar staff are VERY knowledgeable about there beers and can tell you all about it, which really helps show a sense of passion about the beers that sell. A must visit for any ale drinkers in central Manchester. Even better, you can actually talk to your friends as there's no deafening music!!

Yelp
Went here one Saturday evening after getting a recommendation from the guys at Brew Dog bar and it was great. Really great selection of UK, Colorado and California craft brewers and a fun atmosphere. Big list of bottles and draught, knowledgeable, helpful staff made some great recommendations.
