I was having no luck at finding a good restaurant in Porto until a couple I met on the tour recommended Porta 4. I managed to get a reservation on my last night. The food ambience, and professionalism were What? top-notch. This by far was the best food I had tasted my entire time in Porto. I would highly recommend it. The restaurant itself seats, a total of 12 people on the inside. What an intimate and exceptional experience . I wholeheartedly recommend this to anyone visiting Porto

We read about this restaurant online and it came to our attention because the story behind it seemed super interesting! from what we saw online, it was supposed to be a one man show cooking for all tables with a very limited menu! However, when we got there we were just told "its the world's smallest kitchen" and there was a helper in the kitchen + a table staff as well. This itself brought down the charm and much to our amusement - a lot of the starters were prepared by the helper not even the main "chef". Other than that, the food was way below average for the amount you are paying. We ordered a cheese platter for the starters and it felt like old cheese bought in the supermarket at the cheapest price and the presentation was horrible as well. The mains were okay but I would never say it was anything about average. The dessert was probably the best thing we had (a cold brownie) with banana caramel. Overall, the amount we ended up paying for the bill was totally not worth it and it left us wishing we went somewhere else for our last dinner in Porto. Unfortunately I don't recommend this place if you are looking for your moneys worth. Not to mention I got sick as well the day after :) I knew the Tuna tataki tasted and looked funky!

Porta 4 was our favourite part of the trip to Porto! By a mile the best food and such an amazing experience. So intimate and cosy. We were very well looked after by both the chef and front of house host. We also loved chatting to our neighbours on the next tables. Delicious food. We had octopus, pork, cheese and sausage platter and a cheesecake. All superb. Thank you. We will be back whenever we visit Porto!

Google
The food and atmosphere of the restaurant were beautiful! The chef is lovely, very helpful and kind. It is a one man kitchen with 8 tables so be prepared to book! There is a slight wait for the food, but this warning is given at the start of the meal, and it turns the meal into an evening affair (which is lovely). There was one slight issue, a glass of wine was knocked over and the waiter offered to replenish the wine, we realised when checking the bill that this was to be paid for (if it was made clear, we would not have minded).

What a great little gem of a restaurant. Had a fantastic meal in the first seating. Intimate, cozy, awesome food. Make sure to book a reservation.

This place was recommended to me by my friend who had been before, and we are so glad we managed to get a table. The food was outstanding, George the chef was so caring with his food and he created a flavour sensation with his dishes. The cheese and meat platter was great, especially the jam. We then had the venison and Iberian pork cheek and both were fantastic. We had the cheesecake for desert with a glass of port to finish, which was also so good. The red wine from small vineyards in Portugal was excellent. Would come back here next time we are in Porto. Thank you!

Google
Was lucky enough to eat here last night, it is an absolute must if you are visiting Porto. This is a fantastic little restaurant with a brilliant atmosphere manned by only one chef and one sommelier. There are only 5 tables (so make a reservation!) all close to the kitchen where the chef cooks amazing Portuguese food right in front of you. The sommelier and chef were friendly and talkative which really added to the relaxed atmosphere and they suggested perfect wines to pair with the food. Cannot recommend highly enough, a really special dining experience.

I was lucky enough to be staying around the corner from this beautifully quaint place, and even though I didn't have a reservation, George and Ricardo made me feel like I was at home. The gnocchi and the vinho verde were absolutely delicious! I only wish I had one more night so I could eat here again!!!

Yelp
Porta4 is a very small restaurant. I think they can seat 12 inside the restaurant at a time. They do two seatings on days when they are open 19:30 and 21:30. Reservations are essential and you need to be on time. We had the table closest to the kitchen which I considered the chef's table. We had a front row view to the action as one chef prepared all the food in a very small kitchen. Wow! You see why they only do specific seatings. All of the dish for a seating has to be prepared at the same time or there wouldn't be the space or time to make these lovely dishes. They recommend sharing the dishes at the table so you won't be wanting while the next dish is prepared. That said everything was prepared quickly and beautifully. There were two servers to take orders and help with the wine selection. We had a great pet nat wine that worked with our salad, gnocchi, and duck. We had a port with dessert of course. Each dish was delicious. This was one of our favorite restaurants in Portugal.

Yelp
Service was normal but most importantly the food was phenomenal, omg,but this definitely gets a one star, the owner got one more glass of wine on the receipt, eight more euros, when he realized we were looking at the receipt he changes back to normal. The atmosphere is pretty normal and the place is really really small, seating around 12 people

Yelp
Would give this place zero stars if possible. We never ate there despite making a reservation a week prior for 930pm on a Monday night. We also arrived and had our reservation confirmed by name an hour prior at 830pm and listened as the "host", and I use that word loosely, made a reservation for a walk up couple. An hour later when everyone was seated at the same time, (for the record we were the first to arrive at 910pm) we were told our reservation was not in the system. A farce ensued where the same host did not honor our reservation, never addressing the walk-ups who were seated next to us. This poor excuse for a restaurant employee then threatened to call the police on me when I gave him a piece of my mind about what I thought about his hosting skills. AVOID at all costs.

Yelp
Probably the best dining experience I had in Porto. This place is tiny, as in 6 tables for 2, and you'll definitely need to reserve ahead of time(trying stopping by the night before or earlier, as it fills up). Once you're in though, it a really great...we ordered the tasting menu, and we're not disappointed. The cheese plate was amazing, the cod and humus and ricotta and strawberry salad delectable, and the deserts sublime(especially the mango lime concoction!) If you're looking for an intimate night out in Porto, I highly recommend this spot. You won't regret it!

Yelp
A neighborhood gem, not very touristy. The server/owner had very nice suggestions for dinner. I recommend the sea bass over a lovely spinach/breadcrumb base that is quite Portuguese. Very nice wine suggestions as well. Prices were not terrible for the type of good and the area.

Yelp
My absolute favorite meal in Porto! We were luckily enough to stay a block away from this place. We tried to walk in one night, but they were full. However, we were able to put our name down for the following night with success. There are two seating times: 730 and 930. This place is small and only seats 10-12 people. It feels cozy and not cramped. It is tapas style, so sharing is recommended. My boyfriend and I split the dinner for 2 which is 35 euros - and more than enough food! We started with a generous meat and cheese board which tasted so fresh. I had the mussels escabeche and my boyfriend had the salad as a starter. The mussels were fantastic- the onion and tomato paired wonderfully with the mild escabeche style of this dish. We also had the codfish (easily the freshest fish in Porto) - it comes grilled with a wonderful hummus. The hummus is served warm and has a great puréed texture. The veal loin was outstanding and cooked to a perfect medium. I cannot emphasize how fresh all the food was. The wine was great. Friendly family vibe throughout the night! They take credit card. A nice relaxing 2 hour experience!

Yelp
Hopefully you are lucky enough to eat here while in Porto. We tried for a 9:30pm reservation, but they didn't have anything, but wandered by at 10:30pm and were able to get a table for 4. This spot is very tiny (maybe 2 - 4 tops and 2 - 2 tops?)! The staff are amazingly friendly and welcoming. The kitchen is basically at your table, its so close. I loved being able to watch the chef cook while we enjoyed a glass (or bottle, but who's counting?) of wine. The flavors were bold, fresh, and delicious. I would highly recommend to anyone in the area.

Yelp
An absolutely wonderful dining experience. Creative, delicious, and warm - a great time to be had.Ambiance and a great team from chef to som.

Yelp
The smallest restaurant I've ever stepped into but also my favorite spot in Porto. The restaurant is run by two friends who are very friendly and offered us great advice on where else to dine in Porto. The food was delicious and the entire experience was beyond a "homey" one. I would highly recommend.

Yelp
Stopped in on Saturday late when the restaurant was mostly empty after the dinner rush but they wouldn't serve us dessert even though it was hours before close. The manager said come back Tuesday at 7:30. We extend our trip in Porto an entire day to try this place and get there as instructed, even 5 minutes early. All of the tables are empty. And we are turned away again despite following exact instructions. No one said we needed a reservation. We didn't eat all day in anticipation of coming here. Ultimately these stupid little restaurants are over rated. We ate at all the "best" rated spots from Voltaria to Tapabento and I am sure the Google / Yelp algorithms are broken or paid to show these as top results. The highly rated restaurants were obnoxiously exclusive but also had the most mediocre food. None were nearly as good as Alibi, Puro, or Concept 31. Food in Portugal is amazing everywhere so you might as well dine at a restaurant that greets you with a welcome smile and table when you are hungry instead of turning its nose up at you. Total waste of time and poorly managed.

Yelp
This was the best meal we had in Porto! The place is small and intimate, the food is phenomenal, and the owner and his friend are friendly and entertaining and they know their food and wine well! I can not recommend this place enough!

Yelp
Cute, quaint, place with yummy food. Solid dining experience with nicely curated balanced dishes.

Yelp
I stumbled upon this cute little place hidden beneath an old clock, it's easy to just walk past and miss it. I stopped in as the tapas menu option of wild potatoes sounded great. I ended up planning on staying for just an hour but ended up turning into 3-4 hours as the company was so good. The entire restaurant ended up convincing one of the founders and our chef to take us out on a tour of Porto nightclubs and bars. Simply a magical end to any night and not something you can find in a standard tourist restaurant. .. you want to visit you can be sure they will make you feel at home and of course great food.

Yelp
One of the best restaurants during my travels throughout Portugal! Make sure to call in the morning to get a reservation. The food is prepped in front of you by an awesome chef and the host is so wonderful! They have a unique and local wine selection that is superb! Would definitely plan to come here again for years to come.

Yelp
This is a seriously tiny restaurant and that is half the fun of it--though it was also tasty. There is space for 10 or 11 seats. We got there shortly after they opened and had no problem getting a table, but would recommend making a reservation if you are able to! At least when we were in Porto in the "low" season, there seemed to be only one seating (i.e. no new diners replaced any of the others after leaving). Because it is so tiny you can see the chef preparing everything, and it is a two-person operation working with speed and coordination to juggle all hats. The menu is all tapas, including 4 or 5 vegetarian tapas. The leek and kale soup of the day was good, as was the mushroom and cabbage bruschetta. The chocolate dessert was really good, and if you get the spiced creme brûlée you can see the chef use her blowtorch in the kitchen!

Yelp
We absolutely loved this restaurant! We had rented an apartment in the neighborhood and happened upon Porta 4 during one of our walks. We stopped by the night before and reserved for their first seating at 7:30 p.m. It is a good idea to reserve because the restaurant only seats 14 people. The menu is limited, but everything we ordered was delicious, particularly the tender beef cheeks in a flavorful reduction. The restaurant is run by two guys who make their customers feel as if they are part of a intimate dinner party. Wine? There is no list, but the owner who has ties to local, small producers will offer you a flavorful bottle from his personally selected stock. I would like to keep this restaurant as a secret, but these guys deserve all the success they can handle.

Yelp
Amazing experience. One of the best in all of my Portugal visit! They made us feel right at home and the food was so fresh and yummy. We will be back next time in Porto! :)
