"Set Sail for Portage Bay Portage Bay Goods describes itself as “a gift shop for the thoughtful procrastinator,” but it’s equally handy for souvenir-seeking visitors — or even locals looking for a fun little treat for themselves. They carry tons of highly giftable and inexpensive items ranging from fun to functional, including totes and wallets, Seattle -themed children’s books and apparel, local glassware and art, and novelty barware and mugs. There’s also a fine selection of kids’ toys, games, and craft kits. Add the finishing touch to your gift with a sassy, locally created letterpress notecard."

I am just a girl visiting from Houston, and happen to be walking in the cold with my coworker when she said she needed to stop into this store to pick up a card for her aunt (happy to do so because it was nice and warm inside). What a great place I walk into!! Portage Bay Goods is more than just a place to grab a card, there is something for everyone! Before I knew it, I had found some of the cutiest gift items for my family, talk about all in one stop! The unique and fun and thoughtful items sold are why I had to not only take a few pictures but also write a review, because we don't gatekeep the good stuff! Please get yourself over to Portage Bay Goods, I am sure you will find something you can use, need, or gift!

Google
Great gift shop with a unique collection of funny, cute, pretty, and quirky!!! They have stickers, magnets, earrings, dish towels, oven mitts, pins, and more!!! Highly recommend this store if you are looking for cool Seattle souvenirs or fun gifts. I really wanted to get the dish towel LOL it’s so funny hahaha. I will definitely make another visit and get some cool stuff!

Great gift shop with some super cool stickers and pins

Google
What a lovely store! From local artists work and stationaries, there are so many options for gifts. I highly recommend it to tourists to get something to remember Seattle by.

Google
Best gift shop in Seattle! Inexpensive, thoughtful gifts - plus unique Seattle souvenirs for out-of-towners.

Cute, fun, useful, and silly gifts for adults and children

Good place to shop souvenirs or little decorations. More options compared to other souvenir shops!

Google
Friendly staff and a very quirky selection. I try to buy all my greeting cards here, they have a tremendous and unique selection. Gifts and novelties are also really great; the selection of art, pins, stickers, magnets, etc is great for gifts or souvenirs

Yelp
It's a small but fun little place. Definitely a great place to pick up a card and a fun gift at the last minute and easy to get in and out. I bought a book about cats behavior for my bf :).

Yelp
I didn't think there was a top notch stationery store in Seattle, but I was wrong! Now, you may be thinking of Paper Luxe, but you have to pay an arm and a leg at Paper Luxe for a card worth buying. At Portage Bay Goods, they only charge an arm. Kidding but also not kidding? Stationery is an expensive hobby, but the prices are a bit higher here compared to other big city independent stationery/gift stores I've seen in the last six months. I'm only talking $1-$1.5 difference, but when specialty cards usually start at $4-$5, that's a 20% price difference. Do with what you will. I still love to pick up some stationery everywhere I go, and Portage Bay Goods has a fantastic collection. The cards are fairly diverse in style and sense of humor, along with a nice array of cute and endearing cards. If you're looking for serious cards / letterpress / wedding-style paper, this is probably not the place for you (go check out Pike Street Letterpress!), but this is a great one-stop shop for all other stationery lovers.

Yelp
What a nice surprise in Fremont, WA. I am a stationary fanatic and I found Portage Bay Goods to have very unique stationeries that I have not seen anywhere else. Overall I would say prices are reasonable, I'm leaving as a happy customer.

Yelp
The cutest shop ever! We stumbled upon this little shop while on the way to eat. They had such cute little goodies that you can purchase for yourself or make great gifts for people (which is what we did(: ) They had really cute pins, stickers, button pins, etc. The lady at the register was very welcoming and quick with checking us out. My family loved the little gifts that I purchased for them from Portage Bay Goods!

Camly T.

Yelp
This place gets me. As soon as I walked in, I wanted to buy everything I saw. It is such a great place for gifts. They have beautiful cards, puzzles, pins, art prints, earrings, tote bags, and so much more. They also have cute postcards/magnets/stickers based around Seattle if you're looking for a pretty souvenir. It was soooo much fun to browse and buy. I want to come back for sure. They also support lots of local artists. What's not to love!

Ryan C.

Yelp
An adorable little store in Fremont that offers unique gifts and Seattle-centric merchandise for people of all ages. We originally stopped in after perusing their window displays that featured creative puzzles of Seattle, and we knew we had to buy one. While in there, we were awestruck with the pins, stickers, and other tchotchke items that were available, but it was probably good that we had limited room in our luggage, or we might have gone a little crazy. The holidays are right around the corner, and in an effort to support great local spots this season, friends and family are gonna be receiving quite a few gifts from this place! The business is taking COVID procedures seriously, enforcing the mask rule, has lots of hand sanitizer, and encourages social distancing. Will for sure be back!

Kelly F.

Yelp
I live up the street and needed a gift wrapped for a birthday party. I was happy to find out when I called ahead that not only do they sell gift wrap but they will also wrap it for you! It was 3.50 for the gift wrap- still cheaper than going to target and buying a roll and ribbon that I would have to store in my tiny apt.

Siobhan D.

Yelp
Oh my gosh this is a crazy cute shop with so many unique items!! We bought 7 things but could have easily purchased a dozen others if we weren't hopping on a plane later today. My favorite things were the funny patches, magnets and coasters. I adore my new coaster!! So many novel Seattle souvenirs- stuff that is so much better than you will find at the airport gift shop. Definitely stop by if you are in town.

Jane M.

Yelp
The past two years our new tradition is to go holiday shopping here. Great store, so many unique and clever things! We always find great gifts, for others or ourselves.

Elizabeth L.

Yelp
Upscale gift shop featuring premium goods and local artists, quirky and off-beat. Great kid and baby section, as well as large assortment of letterpress cards for all occasions from independent designers. Prices are higher end, picked up a baby card ($5), a pair of leather Robeez ($26) and a gift bag ($6) for a baby shower. Highly curated selection with price points to match.

Chris H.

Yelp
I dropped by here to grab a card and a silly little knick-knack. This is probably the first modern little knick-knack shop I ever went to, at an earlier location in the same neighborhood. It was interesting to return after all of these years, now that modern little knick-knack shops are everywhere. By modern little knick-knack shop, I mean the ones that have stuff that makes you go "Oh, how cute" or "Oh, how funny" and are mostly drawing from a few wells--things with cats on them, or things with unicorns or zombies on them, or things that make jokes about T-rex having short arms, or coasters picturing a happy-looking idyllic 50's housewife who is making a joke about vodka or about killing her husband...you know, that kind of stuff. Seriously, people who design these sorts of things really need to get more creative and not just copy each other or ride the coattails of the flavor of the month right into the ground (yay, mixed metaphors). I found a couple of things but it was more of a struggle than I expected, perhaps because my heart just wasn't in it. The things in these stores are from such a narrow range of the pop culture/humor spectrum that you almost ache to find something that just carries a simple sentiment. Even so, I bought a magnet with a squid and a whale that made me think, "Oh, how cute! How funny!" So, I guess I'm hoisted by my own petard. Sigh. I also bought two cards that were far more mild mannered than the other thousand cards there. I will say that they have quite a lot of kids stuff, but I'm a childless adult and I didn't browse in that section. The cashier was very gracious--she politely rang me up and didn't react to my grumpy attitude. She deserves a raise.

Alaia L.

Yelp
Super cute trinket store! If you need to find some souvenirs for anyone back home that has a sense of humor, this is the place to go. Tucked into one of the many super cute neighborhoods of North Seattle, this place has pretty much any gag gift you can think of. From smart ass thank you cards to zodiac magnets that are super spot on it's crazy. Only thing that I would want, is just more a pin selection!! It was pretty limited to one little shelf in the store and I was they had more. Nonetheless, great store overall and would come back again!

Inna B.

Yelp
What a cute and conveniently located shop with eco-friendly stuff! As you see from my reviews, I really don't go shopping all that often. Portage Bay Goods happens to be in a very convenient Fremont location, however, and I needed to buy some holiday cards. So I went inside and happened to find lots of cute little items that I know some people would love... and some amusing recycled/eco-friendly holiday cards. They cards are more expensive than the ones at Hallmark, but they definitely have more... Heart? Character? I'm not sure how to explain it, but the cards just seemed a lot more... "small batch" (in a good way). It was also great to see some obviously new designs! (It can't be that old if it mentions Twitter!) When I was purchasing, the cashier gal said "I like your hoodie." I wonder if she just liked the design or if she noticed it was a Yelp Elite hoodie...

Bird E.

Yelp
My favorite place for small gifts. They have the best selection of cards around. Gift for adults and children. Locally curated. Highly recommend.

Beth W.

Yelp
I love this store. Their cards and quirky gifts always make me smile and I find myself going in to browse even when I don't have a specific occasion in mind. The selection is great and the prices are good. If you are ever looking for thoughtful and hilarious items, this is the place to go.

Danielle C.

Yelp
I love these kinds of stores! They sell lots of quirky fun items here, and they make great gifts. They have a cute selection of greeting cards in the back that are cute and/or hilarious. There are a ton of magnets and bumper stickers here, and a lot of the items are Seattle-themed (tote bags, etc.). I got this cute floating yellow duck tea strainer for my boyfriend as a gag gift. So cute! There are also Bungalow 360 wallets here, which feature super adorable prints on canvas material. The lady at the front was super nice, and the boston terrier was in today. How cute.

Kari C.

Yelp
We happened to walk by this little gift shop on the way to dinner. They have an awesome selection of off-beat humor greeting cards. We laughed our asses off! I bought a small print of a robot cat eating the Space Needle. Highly recommend this shop if you're looking for an unique gift.

Sara N.

Yelp
How cute is this place?! I just picked up a birthday card here for a friend. I'm impressed by their well-curated selection of gifts (and maybe even a little something for yourself). The clerk was very kind and welcoming. Go!

K K.

Yelp
I LOVE this place. They have the best selection of quirky and unique cards, gifts, art and knick knacks that are high quality and fun for both kids and adults. I love the beautiful artistic and unique cards (many local) and they make me so happy just looking at them. They are a little pricey but you pay for what you get and it is so worth it. The energy of the store is bright and welcoming -- the workers are always so kind and willing to help however they can. This store is worth fighting for parking in fremont. I could honestly stay here for days haha. Definitely worth checking out -- way more fun than a "made in washington" store

Kaitlin M.

Yelp
I LOVE this store!! There are numerous different kinds of gifts and knick-knacks to be bought here. They carry a lot of Seattle (and Fremont) themed art, shirts, and magnets. They have a very large section of unique cards for any occasion - mostly from independent artists, etc. They sell a lot of tote bags, makeup bags, pencil cases, notebooks, socks, and a million more similar items. They even have a small section of local beauty products - salts, soaps, lotion. I can't even let myself go to this store without supervision or I will buy the whole thing!! Such a wonderful place.

Laura M.

Yelp
Portage bay is definitely one of favorite shops. They have the BEST cards for any occasion and lots of local cards and art by local artists I was really impressed because we came by last night during the third Thursday art walk. They were displaying works by the artist of the month and also had a special artist on site selling her work. During this particular trip, we got a Fremont neighborhood poster (artist of the month) and a necklace that says love in nautical flags (special artist for art walk). I love getting awesome gifts and supporting local businesses and artists. Definitely come by for yourself or to pick up an awesome gift !

Betsey S.

Yelp
Somewhere, somehow, I got it in my head that Portage Bay Goods carried gifts made by local artists. I thought that was really cool, and honestly it was the only reason I went in there. It didn't take long for my bubble to burst when I finally made it in, and found 'MADE IN CHINA' all over every item I picked up. Dammit! "Portage Bay Goods" refers to goods that can be PURCHASED near Portage Bay, not goods that were made anywhere near there! I'm slow sometimes. I did manage to find a handmade glass soap dish and and tumbler made in California for my sister in law (semi-FAIL), but I was so disappointed I couldn't really appreciate the useful/funny/cool stuff in the store. I'm not sure I'd make a special trip back, but would stop in if I was already shopping around Fremont. I am, however, considering opening a locally made stuff gift shop...

Sherry T.

Yelp
Soooooooooo cute!! If I had a baby explosion from my tummy this is the first store I will go to and buy baby clothes, toys, dolls and books. A lot of the items in the store were unique items that I haven't seen before. It was fun, colorful and full of life. Don't have babies yet? No worries, they have jewelry, stickers, pins and fun Seattle gadgets that make fun souvenirs or gifts. Definitely a cute store to check out :)

Sonya G.

Yelp
Fantastic service, fantastic selection, and completely true to the sign outside: "The gift shop for the thoughtful procrastinator!" I wandered in early (okay, my definition of "early" may take a few liberties) on a Sunday morning, looking for a birthday gift for a one-year-old boy. Having no kids myself, and few friends with any, this is quite possibly the first first birthday party I'd been to since -- well -- being around that age myself! Since this was for family, I had been stressed about choosing the right gift for weeks (See? THOUGHTFUL procrastinator!), but the time had finally come that I just had to pick something and go. Lucky for me, Portage Bay Good DELIVERED! [I mean that in the metaphorical way, not that they shipped to me... I don't know about those things] I was quickly able to find the section of tactile/book/visual toys that seemed appropriate for kiddos and picked a noise-making puzzle of different vehicles (helicopter, race car, ferry, etc). The woman at the front confirmed for my insecure-baby-gift-buying-self that it was an appropriately aged toy, offered to wrap it for free, and I was on my merry way! At the check out, I noticed gobs more kitchy magnets, cards, and totes that I will certainly be going back to discover. Not to mention, my very first in-person sighting of "Go the F**k to Sleep"!!! PBG, you just earned yourself a lifetime customer.

Cathy G.

Yelp
This store is really fun. You never know what you will find,. It carries an eclectic variety of gifts, funny items ( Archee McFee kind of stuff) and then nice candles and jewelery. Staff varies in silliness, seriousness and one standoffish person. Christmas, birthdays and special occasions send me here. You can find things for those who have everything.. nowhere else can you buy Forgiveness Soap - wash all your sins away, or flying cats.. Go, have fun, buy gifts.

Kat F.

Yelp
This is my standard go-to store when I want to pick up a present for a friend. They've got all sorts of interesting things, from fun coffee mugs to voodoo doll kits to glassware and jewelry. They also have an extensive selection of greeting cards that are far more interesting than what you'll find at the drugstore. If I miss a bus over by the bridge and have to wait a half an hour for the next one I always come over here and browse. You never know what you will find that you didn't know you needed! (Coffee mug with pictures of dinosaurs that become pictures of fossils when you add hot coffee? Anyone?)

Josephine M.

Yelp
I absolutely adore this shop. No matter how naughty I've been, and how close it is to so-and-so's birthday/wedding/aniversary/graduation/shower, I know with absolute certainty that the perfectly quirky gift is here, and I have nothing to worry about and only one stop to make. This is a great shop, with a great staff, and just the right combination of always in stock and rotating goods. The fact that this tiny little business has survived the Fremont Bridge construction, while many around it did not, should be very telling. Do not spend a day perusing Fremont without stopping here. If nothing else, you'll likely leave with an amused grin on your face and the most offensively packaged gum money can buy.

Starla S.

Yelp
I sometimes go here just if I need a good laugh... or if I want to come to terms with my "confessions of a slacker mom" tendencies... or, I guess more appropriately... if I actually need to buy a gift. They've got everything from "I'm not a tranny" gum to the hot ticket item "ugly dolls" to refurbished bike tire wallets to countless numbers of Anne Taintor cards and magnets. This is the place for you're eagerly awaiting Bush's retirement, you might have just gone to a drag show or plan to in the near future, your kid prefers death cab to the wiggles, you wear vegan shoes but have a jackalope above your door.

Katie S.

Yelp
Kinda like an upscale Archie McPhees! I'm just pissed my toddler is too big for the super hilarious onesies there. They have the best supply of gay-lesbian greeting cards ever, and lots of other fun accessories for your life. Do you actually need anything they sell? Probably not. But if you find the coolest hat there, that makes you feel like a rock god, you MUST BUY IT, or it will be gone and forever haunt you. At least that's been my experience. Oh, and the little grey plastic psuedo-humanoid dude that will dispense soap that you though you'd draw cool 'tattoos' all over and would make your kitchen sink look real cool? That, you coulda skipped.

Megan R.

Yelp
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this store. I've been coming here for a long time and they are just great. The selection is always great, and they always have that perfect inappropriate card you've been searching for. They give you a discount if it's your birthday (or a few days surrounding I think) if you present your ID when you are purchasing. The staff is really friendly. Their gum selection is HILARIOUS - and they always have things you never know you needed. Best store in Fremont!

Christina B.

Yelp
Love this place! Great gifts for friends and family with a sense of humor (plus your standard "lady" gifts like soap and other I-want-to-smell-good products). Nice people, too. Funny baby gifts and a lot of alcohol themed gifts too - there was a "bar bingo" game here that was too funny. Really, there's something for just about everyone on your list, it's brainless shopping - need a gift? Go to Portage Bay Goods. You'll almost always be able to find something that fits the person you're lookin' for within your budget. I swear, I am in no way or shape affiliated with people that own/work here - I just love a place that makes it so easy to shop for friends and family! Now go! Patronize this establishment already!

Mack M.

Yelp
The new location is even better! And, so is the selection - if that's possible! If I had to choose a favorite line, it would be the card line, Greetings From Uranus, which are more restrained than you might imagine - but inventive and well-designed. Look. I just love this store. I wish I had more friends so I could buy more stuff here to give them!

Sammi E.

Yelp
What an absolutely adorable shop! I just loved everything about the toys, the atmosphere, the cards, the staff, everything! Most of the time when I visit places like this I go crazy wanting to buy things but never end up getting anything. They had a great mix of local products and bigger names. I just could not resist and ended up buying a few things. A great Fremont spot.

Rebecca H.

Yelp
Quirky little spendy store that has lots of kitsch and camp. Reminded me of Archie McPhee, they carry a lot of the same stuff. It has a little of this and that, it's a good place to get a gift for that funky friend or cool baby. Definitely appeals to the Fremont demographic; I don't know that you would find your grandma a gift there, unless she's sort of an indie kind of groovy gal. It's expensive, but good kitsch always is. My friend was in desperate need of a chapstick and got one there for 6 bucks, a Dirty Girl raspberry stick, which smells lovely and she likes, but 6 bucks for chapstick? It's that kind of store.

Shila B.

Yelp
Music: None Layout: Organized, very colorful and charming. Brings out the inner adult in one. Price: $$, some things are hit and miss on the price range. Customer Service: 5 out of 5 I bought 2 line ups from This Chaming, gourmet flavors at $2.50 which was extremely pricey, however, good lollies. I haven't seen these lollies since the convention back in Vancouver.

Tony D.

Yelp
This shop has a nice selection of smart and clever gift ideas. This place gets a 5 in my book because of its top notch, high five worthy service. I picked up a letter press card there while on vacation a few weeks ago. Somehow the card disappeared while on my way home. I blame TSA. I was bummed because it was a funny card that I could not locate at Paper Source. I called the store, and the associate found the card on the shelf and sent it out to me. I had to pay for it, but I was thankful for her going the extra mile for me. It arrived that week and my woman was thrilled. Hooray for Portage Bay!

Amie S.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite shops in Fremont! They carry a large variety of everything - and most of it is not your usual mall-variety stuff. They have all the Ugly Dolls (I think the cutest one is Icebat - but actually they're all so cute, I probably couldn't choose if pressed), bath & body stuff from BlueQ (Dirty Girl & Miso Pretty) and tons of journals, bags, cards, kitchen stuff, books - including all manner of funny magnets, pins and other odds & ends - lots of great gifts! Also helpful: they have a pretty big selection of stuff for kids, including cute tee shirts (maybe the signature "i-Poo'd" tee is a little much - at least for my taste - but mostly they're cute), and the toys are all labeled according to age-appropriateness. For someone like me who doesn't have little ones, I find this to be an important detail when shopping for friends.

Elyse S.

Yelp
What a cute little shop! They have a great selection of cards for every occasion, which pretty much is where I get all my cards now. They have many from local artists, too, like the Oatmeal and much more! The trinkets and doo-dads are also pretty fun! Books, magnets, soap, art, you name it. Cute and unique gifts. The gift wrap selection is small, but interesting, and seems to rotate. I love wandering through here, even if I don't have a specific gift in mind.

Peter H.

Yelp
Like a funkier 'Fireworks' without all the expensive stuff you can't afford anyway. Was just walking past Portage Bay today after lunch and was drawn in. Laughed and enjoyed so much in the store. From the duct tape wallets to the Ugly Dolls to the cool, fresh stickers they have. This must have been what Fireworks was like before they went upscale and multi-store. As I said, one big difference is they aren't filled with $500 mirrors and $1,000 tables. This is just fun, fun, fun. Lots of quality goods and gifts, and the kind of thing you won't find at every other store. If you're in Fremont, and having a fun browsing day, wander across the street to it.

Dan S.

Yelp
*Super irreverent schwag and gift ideas, lots of f bombs and weed products-gotta love it. Bacon Band Aids?check Duct Tape Wallets?check Voodoo Doll Kits for a girlfriend with an a-hole Ex? check *Local jewelry at a decent price *Super nice staff, always helpful and warm *GREAT kids games, clothes etc... and not ToysR'Usey *Candles, seasonal gifts and cool Fremont tee shirts, you can spend an hours poking around the store.

Katelyn P.

Yelp
Amazing gift shop with the quirkiest finds. Great for cards and kids toys/gifts. Always has fun artwork with rotating local artist.

Kelly D.

Yelp
If you can't find something in here to love and take home, you are probably dead ... My condolences. Such fun, unique stuff and the proprietors and employees are lovely ... This shop is helping to keep the flavor of Fremont alive, folks! Last - but never least - they are great supporters of local schools ... Thank you, PBG! :)

Ashley B.

Yelp
This is the only place I go for cards now, I love the selection of funny, cute and sentimental. My only compliant is the selection of gift wrap. For a store that refers to itself as "for the thoughtful procrastinator" they make it hard to wrap the gifts. I'm a big wine gifter and the wine bag selection is weak.

Kristin C.

Yelp
This store is full of lots of fun, kitschy things. Think magnets, cards, t-shirts, gag-gifts, etc. It's also super eco-friendly too. They have lots of cute grocery bags. I bought one of those awesome head scratchers too. Great spot in Fremont that fits in with the quirky attitude of the neighborhood. I don't buy a lot here, but I like to go in and look around whenever I am in the area, and I like to get cards here for friends and family just because.

Ashley E.

Yelp
I've lived in Fremont for awhile now and really haven't been into any of the shops in town, shame on me for not doing so as I know they have some really interesting items to offer. Portage Bay Goods is a unique little gift store, I came in with a friend who was looking for a gift for her assistant, we ended up spending a little more time in here as we had so much fun looking at all the little trinkets and knick-knacks they had all around the store. They offer a wide range of offerings some a little off the wall to very tasteful so it was a good time exploring. I ended up walking out with some cute little magnets for my bare fridge and my friend got here assistant a cute little duck tea diffuser.

Logan S.

Yelp
It's true what they're saying. This is a really fun little shop. They have a nice section of cute baby gifts, some Seattle-themed gifts, some fun journal-type things, and lots of other neat and interesting stuff. It's pretty reasonably-priced too, as far as gifty things go. I feel like they did all the hard "thinking" work for me (since I'm terrible at coming up with gifty things!), and put everything in one spot. I'll be doing lots of gift shopping here in the future!

Felicity B.

Yelp
Most of my birthday gifts for friends come from here. I can always count on a great array of fun and unique products often with a Seattle vibe. Always fun to shop or just look around!

Kira B.

Yelp
Picked up some adorable little pins, Polaroid photo frames, and Theo bread & chocolate bars. I really like this shop - has lots of funky and unusual gift items and not too overpriced.

Creepy m.

Yelp
This is definitly the best, last minute, oh my gosh something thoughtful for David's aunt, Kim's baby, Mia's stocking stuffer, Blah blahs wedding. Its my secrect to getting cool gifts with zero effort. Hip baby stuff, good smellin' bath and body, kitchen arty stuff: really a place if your clueless and need a gift now. Prices range on everything and they have good wrapping paper and cards. Plus they are nice and mellow.
