Stepping Beyond Cartagena: Exploring Colombia's Northern Reaches

"A gracious colonial with an interior garden and a vast front room with great wooden shutters that swung open to look out over the Magdalena River."

"Staying at Hotel Portal de la Marquesa is like stepping back in time. From the moment you walk through the door, the decor and atmosphere transport you to another era. Juana's welcome with a refreshing juice is just the beginning of an unforgettable experience. The rooms are beautiful, but what really stands out is the attention of the entire team, especially at breakfast. The location is unbeatable! Plus, I had the chance to enjoy the private pool in the Junior Suite – spectacular! Definitely a place to relax and enjoy Mompox."

Really wonderful place to stay in Mompós. The rooms lie around a calm courtyard with many fruit trees and plants. Birds come and go, we even saw hummingbirds as we were having breakfast ! Our room was very big, clean and nicely decorated. The staff are so helpful and friendly, and will help you with anything that you need during your stay. Lovely place, lovely people. Y muchísimas gracias a todas y todos los empleados quien nos cuidó tan bien et nos hizo sentir como en casa nuestra ! Muy muy chévere.

Magical stay in a stylish, historical and highly relaxing boutique hotel by the river! Liked · The hotel is small and decorated with style. The living room and dining room are stunning, with their high ceilings. So is the patio with its refreshing swimming pool. The staff are very kind and helpful, given the small number of guests they have to work with. The hotel also has a very friendly and cute little cat called Catalina, which makes it feel like "home". Its location by the Rio Madgalena is perfect. We didn't try the breakfast, but it looked amazing too. Disliked · Nothing!

We stayed three wonderful nights at Portal de la Marquesa. Originally we were supposed to stay in another hotel but upon check-in there were problems with the room that made it too difficult to continue staying there and we had to find replacement accommodation. Luckily Portal de la Marquesa was just a few doors down and they had two rooms available. It was very late at night and Hernán had us quickly settled into our room. The entire hotel is beautiful. It is so wonderfully decorated while keeping the original charm. The staff are amazing. The entire team. The ladies who look after breakfast are so kind and made us some food to take with us on our early check-out. Highly recommend.

Overpriced as there are other options that are probably similar or better for a lower price. The room was big, relatively quiet but did not feel private as it is a small enclosure. The staff were ok, they "own" the place and do things at their pace. It seems like things are not necessarily done proactively, rather you need to ask and they will give you a look and do it. For example, asking for breakfast after clearly sitting there waiting for it to be served, they were too busy chatting amongst themselves. What this place does have going for it is the location, it is in the quieter end of the Alborada. The river front location makes it a great place to observe river life and passer by's. A great front lounge, sit under the fan and read or observe. Lots of food options near by and a great Cafe next door. FYI: We stayed at another place close by, slightly more expensive, but that was truly worth the value for money.

A beautiful town with very nice people !! It is a very, very small town, 2 days are enough to go everywhere.|Beautiful houses and most of them are becoming hotels. El Portal de la Marquesa is one of them. It needs some good maintenance ! |Staff is very nice.|It has a small "swiming pool" with fresh water. The heat is real heat 34º C try the sightseeing tour early morning.

The Hotel has a fantastic location! The old atmosphere of the house is very beautiful.||||The staff, even being very attentive, lacks the information they provide to guests. I believe there is someone missing to manage and is pending details, for example, we arrived and the room with separate beds was not ready as requested, the hotel was only shown because I requested it, nothing was said about what we could know in Mompox.||||The hotel would need to provide at least one English-speaking staff member as there are many foreign guests.|||| Something essential and that was not said by the employees: there are guides registered by the city hall who, for a reasonable fee, accompany visitors on an itinerary that allows you to make the most of your time, I think this is essential in the city to really understand the history better of each place, I recommend the one I hired which was fantastic: José telephone: 321 8558121

Cozy hotel with an antique colonial feeling. The staff was really helpful and kind. The room we got was okay but was on the second floor (kind of) so if you don't like tight spiral staircase ask for a first floor room. The hotel is located on a no vehicle zone so you will park at least two blocks away. The location is great for walking around town and taste some of the local food.
