A beautiful gate to the Cité in Carcassonne. A great place to walk and enjoy the history of the Cité.

Great views up to La Cite as you walk up to this entrance. Spot the circular stripes!! They are real.

River Aude gate is a closer to modern city gate to access the castle. This was a gate I choose to enter the city from the west, as it was very close to the apartment I stayed. Just across the river Ade via old stone bridge. Beautiful views from the bridge. Gate itself and surrounding walls looks like giant circles are projected to it, but its not projection, it was painted in yellow, now barely visible, but still makes a nice illusion effect. From here I entered the medieval city. Old city is free to enter as there are many restaurants, and the only part that is ticket requirement is a the Comtal castle with ramparts walk.

Fantastic and interesting place. It is a beautiful and impressive construction. We spend a 2 hours there, and did generally enjoy the stay. However there were alot of people, but apparently it is the second most visited place in France. In the middle of the castle, you can find alot of shops selling all kinds of stuff to all the tourists. There is also plenty of opportunity to buy something to eat. Walking around in the castle is free, however there are events that you can join, but they will cost a small fee. Parking was kind of a nightmare though. Savner you self some time, and go directly to one of the parking lots a little further away from the castle. The sign said free space, but everything was full, and trying to get back out, while people still drive in, was almost impossible. I also cost for parking. We paid 6 Euro for 2 hours. Since it was free to visit the castle, I found the price for parking fair.
