Step under Porte Guillaume and you are on Rue de la Liberté, the main pedestrian spine to Place de la Libération. Locals treat the arch as the city-centre threshold and an easy meet-up point; visitor guides fold it into everyday wayfinding with tram Darcy as the stop name. The Parcours de la Chouette walking trail sends you from the square under the arch and down the street, so foot traffic resolves around this single span. A small plaque to Thomas Jefferson adds a note of long-distance friendship, now part of the storytelling used on tours. In practice the monument is less a relic than a working sign - a nexus between plaza and promenade, commerce and heritage - and a reliable compass for first-time walkers

At the city's entrance, a magnificent 18th-century stone archway adorned with allegorical sculptures welcomes visitors. This monumental gate provides a stunning panorama of Dijon, showcasing its meticulously planned, clean, and orderly urban landscape. It's a must-see for anyone exploring the city.

Simple beautiful monumental structure. We really like such simple buildings that complement the old part of the city and organically fit into the overall architectural ensemble. 100% recommendation for a visit, especially since it is very close to the center.

Clearly a landmark of Dijon, it is like a mini-Arc de Triomphe. Really worth seeing and then goes down all the main through the main pedestrian street to the Place de la Liberation.

On 22 July, 2024, my wife and I were determined to see the Gate before leaving Dijon. For the gates we have seen before, this one isn’t magnificent While nobody seemed to admire the Gate, we’ve been here.

Wonderful town. Interesting. Fun. Delicious eateries. Friendly people etc. Well worth the stopover for a night, on the drive to the Alps from the UK.

Such a beautiful and symbolic monument in this small city. The nice thing about France, wherever you travel to which ever city, you'll find an arc of triomphe.
