Friendly staff but poor coffee and food in a relatively basic setting. At least you’ll get served quicker than all the other (extremely) busy brunch places around there, but the egg bagel was barely toasted and very bland. Would certainly choose somewhere else next time

Another Nashville great gone! It was a peaceful vibe in a sea of activity. Usually there was a line and a full house by 9am. I wonder what happened?

Google
The services was wonderful! The food was nothing special. The bagels were not fresh . Omelette was good .i felt the food was not integrated.

12 South needs a good coffee shop and I’m glad Portland Brew is there. They also have a handful parking spots outside the cafe. Espresso shot in my Lavender Latte was good. They have two large seating areas indoors. There’s a strong wifi and a water station. They also have an avocado toast on their menu. Everything is reasonably priced.

Google
Always a great local spot in 12 south that thankfully never gets overwhelmed with the tourists. Coffee is consistently top notch and their food is great! Got their new Kale salad. Loaded with bacon, goat cheese, almond, and a fried egg. The server that brought it to me was excited to tell me it was her first time making it and DANG she did a good job. I don’t think they have gluten free bread, but whatever the salad was perfect. Porch is good for dogs! Except there’s annoying construction next door. Didn’t ruin my lunch though and didn’t scare my dog. I can always count on this place having seating!

After a 3 mile jog, it's great to grab a coffee and snack at Portland Brew.

Google
Coffee is very good. Got the Iced Caramel Cream and could taste both coffee AND caramel, neither was overpowering. Tasty sandwiches served on your choice of bread, including sourdough 😋. Had to knock one star for slower than anticipated service and once our sandwiches were brought out (13 mins) we had to remind them that we ordered coffee as well. They had stated that they would bring it all out to us, therefore we didn’t wait at the counter.

Google
Staff was very nice! Got a Lavender latte iced it was delish! The bacon egg cheese breakfast sandwich on a bagel was very good.

Yelp
Stopped by after work for an iced coffee and breakfast sandwich (veggie). The seating area is huge with lots of tables/couches and table space if you want to get any work done. Its a relaxed, quiet atmosphere. Friendly, fast service. Definitely one of the better iced coffees I have had but the breakfast sandwich was okay- the bagel was a little to tough for me. Loved how they have parking in the front for a hassle free experience.

Yelp
Portland Brew is a great coffee shop in 12 South! My friend, and I both got a dirty chai, and we loved our drinks! It is cute inside. There is plenty of seating, both inside and outside. I think they are dog friendly inside, because we noticed dogs, but it may only be to order. I'm not positive. The staff was really friendly and helped us decide what to order. I would definitely come back here when I'm in the 12 South area!

Yelp
One of the best coffee shops I've been to! My friends and I were in town for the Nashville half marathon last weekend, and we came here for all 4 days we were here! The cold brew and lattes are delicious, and they offer a big variety of flavors and milk alternatives. The zucchini muffin was also a hit! The staff is very kind, and they are able to prepare all of the orders quickly. It's also SO affordable! I'm from NYC, and I was shocked at how great the prices were. I will be sure to stop in every time I'm in Nashville!

Lauren M.

Yelp
Lots of seating! Good coffee. I love coming here to study but their coffee and food is just okay. Not super good but not bad at all. 10/10 for atmosphere 6/10 for food/drinks (average) bagel sandwich was okay i'd give it 5/10

Jacob H.

Yelp
Fast service, great seating area with many couches and plenty of table space. Overall ambience is relaxed with quiet music in the background. Wifi is private, and there are no prices on the drink menu. This drink was $6.85.

Yelp
It is a tragedy that this place is closing for another eyesore of a clothing store. As 12 South transforms from a lovable neighborhood strip to a soulless LA billboard, I realize my time in Nashville is also reaching its end. The vibrant atmosphere that fostered so many of my new friendships is now drowning in a sea of commercialism among faceless tourists.

Nisreen A.

Yelp
Guy working tonight was so rude. I was standing far back from the ordering area because I didn't know what I wanted. It was open for any other customer who was ready to order. He couldn't give me 10 seconds to look at the menu he kept being annoyed and asking if I was ready, the group next to us was also reviewing the menu and he rudely said "whenever someone's actually ready to order let me know" We just walked out.

Frances M.

Yelp
Coffee great and salad amazing! Lots of food options but most weren't gluten free, which is totally fine, I was just limited. They have a lot of seating upstairs as well. Would be a great place to do a group hang out.

Gabriella A.

Yelp
I absolutely loved Portland Brew. I got the bagel breakfast sandwich with avocado and would definitely recommend. The iced coffee was also delicious. This is a great spot in 12 South for grabbing a quick bite and is a great environment for doing work.

Grace M.

Yelp
Waited in line for 30 minutes while the cashier spoke to her friend at the register. The table we sat at was sticky trash all over. My granola came in a plastic cup which was honestly as bad as it looked. Don't come here spare yourself and go to the other coffee shops around town. Also you shouldn't push your political views on customers a good way to loose business.

Summer T.

Yelp
Service sucks!!!! Workers are so rude when you tell them you have a milk allergy they have an attitude and talk to you very rudely would not recommend because of the service!!! Worse service I've had in Nashville guy at front counter rude. Multiple guest have complained regarding the customer service. Coffee is good but not worth the terrible service and rude workers here

Lauren L.

Yelp
Honestly, we only ordered a black coffee and 2 bacon egg and cheese's. The coffee was good - hard to mess that up. The bagels were just awful and honestly inedible. The bagel itself was hard and dry, the egg was so thin, bacon was beyond burnt, and the cheese was the best part. The wait time was longer but there were many people in there I'm assuming due to the location. We won't be coming here again just due to the food.

Yelp
this place is a fixture in the 12 south local community. i lived in the area throughout my Belmont years and spent many a study sesh and first date here! the regulars are wonderful to chat with and the staff are such kind and creative people. the muffins are consistently great and i can never go wrong with extra toasted multigrain with butter it's like crack to me. love it here.

Juliette L.

Yelp
Cheapest food and drinks on the block. I ordered a bagel and a sourdough breakfast sandwich, my bagel came out promptly then after about 15 minutes they brought out another bagel and a breakfast sandwich on a bagel as well. I told them this wasn't my order and instead of fixing it they just took away the extra bagel

Reese C.

Yelp
Drinks are fab! I would recommend the apple cider, it's really good! There are plenty of places to sit and an outdoor area as well. Parking is limited but it wasn't an issue for us today. The staff is super sweet and the music is great!

Savannah C.

Yelp
Food and coffee was very good but girl who brought my food out was really rude after I politely informed her that the food is not what I ordered and when she brought out the right thing she slammed it down.

Lilly W.

Yelp
Awesome staff, cozy environment very chill! Great sandwiches and coffee worth the stop!!!

Will M.

Yelp
Overall, I think that this is the best coffee shop in the 12th south area. The drinks aren't excessively expensive and the coffee is truly top notch. I would highly recommend this place, especially if you're looking for a place to study.

Aspen K.

Yelp
Chocolate chip scone was killer!!!! Got a vanilla latte and cannot complain. Would def stop back in

Rob S.

Yelp
This place was all in all a great stopping off point to try some local (well pacific Northwest) coffee and get some breakfast before we started our trek home. The area was actually really active with people out riding bikes, walking, running and just being active. The coffee house is very covid safe as they have removed all interior seating and chairs. So basically it's a to go orders only type of place. Nice breakfast menu that has some good options for everyone (see pics). I went with the everything bagel with bacon and cheddar cheese (no egg). Really solid breakfast sandwich and the bacon was cooked to perfection. My wife had the yogurt and fruit with granola mixture. It was fresh and grew on her as she got further into it. Also, if you have a pup, they are dog friendly and there's a good chance customers and workers will give your dog some love. Prices are good and the wait wasn't too long, especially considering all the people that were there when we were there. We would for sure return here in the future.

Sarah G.

Yelp
(I almost don't want to tell you ) This is the best coffee shop in Nashville! Exxxcellent cold brew. Hot drinks are great. Friendly staff. Very relaxed atmosphere. Other shops are appealing to tourists, but Portland Brew appeals to locals and coffee connoisseurs!

Adam S.

Yelp
One-time visit for coffee and breakfast sandwiches the day after Christmas. Appreciate the shop being open and it was packed. Unfortunately, dark roast was weak -- like a $5 cup of warm water. Sandwiches were simple and forgettable. Most likely would not recommend or go back based on this experience.

Julia T.

Yelp
Portland Brew is a cute funky coffee shop great for studying. One of my favorite parts is you can find some dogs hanging out there too. The chalkboard menu has a variety of sandwiches with different names such as "Multnomah" or "Hawthorne" named after popular street and neighborhood names in Portland. The Multnomah, my personal favorite, is a turkey sandwich, slathered with pesto, melted provolone, and little dried cranberries wedged between the layers, then, of course, put into a panini press with your choice of bread (I go with cranberry bread for obvious reasons).

Caleb F.

Yelp
I'm a bit of a coffee snob sometimes, but other times I just want a good black cup of coffee. Portland brew provided this for me, so I really have no complaints. Decent study vibes but really nothing special. Good service, nice people. If you are visiting the area, good place for a midday pop in coffee break.

Leah D.

Yelp
This place has good coffee and some food options. There are a few parking spots which is great since the area doesn't have many parking options. Currently, there is only outdoor seating, but there are covered outdoor tables. Be sure to ask for prices since the menu doesn't list the coffee prices.

Emerson J.

Yelp
I have been going here since they opened this location, and I used to go here almost everyday. Sadly over the years, what once was a vibrant, warm, and cozy cafe has become a pit of sadness :( Every time I go in there I'm met with grumpy customers, followed by a "hurry-up-and-place-your-order" staff. I used to have such lovely chats in there, and now everyone has their pretentious head shoved in their precious behind :( Additionally, they are ALWAYS missing something (and it's usually exactly what you wanted), and their chai freeze "machine" has been broken for two years. Oh and a coffee is $7 and tastes worse than the convenience store brew adjacent to it. Basically, save your money and go anywhere else :/ :( Goodbye Portland Brew :(((((

Yelp
My husband and I were bored of our walking routes in our neighborhood and decided to walk along 12 South for a sense of civilization yesterday. Along our walk, we noticed that the other two 12 South coffee shops were open and had seating to enjoy your coffee outside - but that meant that they were CROWDED and had lines to order. Lucky for us, Portland Brew is doing to go only from a window at their 12 South location. No line, no wait. We each had an iced Americano (it was HOT outside when we were walking around 12-1). Fast service, good coffee - what's not to like? It's weird I never went to Portland Brew pre-COVID - I think it always just looked so small, like I'd never get a seat. Based on the service and the coffee, I'd be happy to return to try Portland Brew's full experience once things are back to normal!

Pam L.

Yelp
From the moment I entered, the cashier was warm and friendly. I asked for sandwich suggestions and he gave me three options. I tried The Boring in a wrap. Delicious, fresh and huge! I got my coffee right away while I waited, which was delicious. this restaurant is Covid-safe with no tables inside, and a few outside tables. Masks and plexiglass inside.

Kelsey C.

Yelp
Popped into Portland Brew to grab a cup of coffee before we jumped in the car. It's the type of local place that I love - lots of seating and quiet space to work and study. Good locals place. The barista was friendly and got my almond milk latte out quickly but so few places get the milk to not taste weird when it's steamed so it was a little hard to drink but I knew that going into it. My friend ordered a coffee and two of the carafes on the counter had lukewarm coffee but the barista filled hers up behind the counter no problem. The place isn't super squeaky clean and the supply station had unwrapped straws which was a little icky. We left fueled up and ready for the rest of the day but probably would stop someplace else next time.

Brendan D.

Yelp
I go here twice to three times weekly. Easy parking. Easy menu. Friendly and prompt service. Their regular brewed coffee comes in med roast or dark roast. I get those and additionally order Cappuccinos or Lattes. All excellent. As for food, their oatmeal with fresh fruit never disappoints. And their breakfast bagel sandwiches are solid. Great place to bring your dog and hang out front and people watch. And their "star" program lets me get a free drink about every 2-3 weeks. Lastly, with all the bogus coffee shops in town, this one seems to stay true to the basics. When in doubt, go here.

Alex U.

Yelp
I stopped by Portland Brew for an iced coffee the other morning and was pleased with their COVID procedures in place. The staff was friendly despite being busy with a line of people waiting. They place orders in a separate pick up window and make sure people keep 6ft apart. The iced coffee was fantastic. I will look forward to trying this place again once they reopen fully.

Audrey B.

Yelp
Don't get me wrong, I like PB's coffee is pretty good I think BUT they have a serious roach problem. I tried to ignore it but every time I go in at the 12 south location I see roaches on the floor, in the bathroom, and the last time I went on the couch I was sitting on! I will not be ordering food there anymore because of that. Also the workers at PB are so rude! There are like 3 nice workers and the rest are less than kind. Also the food takes 20 minutes plus to come out and whenever you say thank you to the food runner they will just glare a you or grunt. I've had the worst customer service here and so have my friends but we continue to go back for the coffee. Ugh I wish they would higher nicer people and get an exterminator

Alyssa G.

Yelp
We love Portland Brew espresso and are pretty picky when it comes to coffee! What makes this place unique is the seating. We headed to the second floor and went out onto the balcony. We loved the counter style seating that overlooked the street. There were also quite a few couches and comfy seating options. But we liked people watching at the counter! This is a great place to hang out at while waiting for a table at Bartaco. We had such a nice date of coffee and sitting on the pretty balcony before a late dinner.

Taylor W.

Yelp
I'm from Portland, where the coffee is marvelous and we take pride in it's rich, full, aromatic experience. This was not that and it's a shame they use the Portland name on their coffee. To start, the coffee is not good. The service was meh - if I wanted rude baristas I'd have stayed on the west coast. I went there to work and the internet was so bad I had to leave after 10 minutes - couldn't load a webpage, let alone get anything done. Would not recommend and will not go back.

Courtney S.

Yelp
Wonderful! The cold brew was the best I have ever had. I had breakfast and my partner had lunch. Both were excellent. The barista was nice, even when I asked a ton of questions. Highly recommend for a quick coffee run or for a breakfast pit stop.

Ross J.

Yelp
I've enjoyed going to Portland Brew for about a year and a half now, but recently, it has been an absolutely awful experience every time I've walked in. If I could give the customer service and staff friendliness negative stars, I would. The staff is never polite when taking orders, they always have a bad attitude when serving, and never seem to care about any customers who come in. It's been unacceptable lately. Portland Brew workers need to either get fired or start acting like they care because this poor of customer service is incredibly disappointing.

Alyssa M.

Yelp
Stopped here for a coffee and sat outside with a friend. We both had an iced coffee and it was probably one of the best I've had.

Jessica G.

Yelp
Our second day of two in Nashville and looking for breakfast in the 12S area. We had already been to the other coffee shop nearby (twice) and liked it, but the Yelper in me wanted to branch out. We weren't really looking for a big breakfast, just coffee for my boyfriend and something quick and easy to start the day. Entering the setup is a little odd. There a dining room to the left and the right, kind of leaving you in an awkward window area to order. They have a pretty decent menu for breakfast and lots of coffee and tea options. We placed our orders at the window for a coffee, a hot chocolate, a bagel with cream cheese, and a granola/yogurt/fruit bowl. Food prices are pretty reasonable and it ended up being a relatively cheap good quality breakfast. We took a seat at the counter which faced the street and people watched a little waiting for our food to be delivered and as we ate. The bagel was good, though I would have liked a little more cream cheese (to be fair I put way too much cream cheese on my bagels) and although I hate yogurt I stole some fruit from my boyfriends granola bowl and it was fresh (strawberries and bananas). I only went three stars because I liked the other coffee shop in the area a little more, and the coffee prep counter here where you grab lids and sugars and whatever you may want was a little messy, and honestly the staff wasn't all that friendly with our questions about where things were and how things worked since it was our first time. There were plenty of people camping out with laptops and hanging out on the patio with notebooks so I do think it's a popular spot to grab a coffee and work, I just don't see anything special here as a breakfast option, but it was quick and reasonable.

Austin S.

Yelp
In a city full of trendy coffee shops, the coffee is what stands out. Much like the music industry of Nashville, the song always wins. Portland brew is the greatest hit of Nashville coffee. They roast it to a medium or medium dark roast. This alone makes them stand out, as practically every other hipster coffee shop in Nashville won't take the roast above a light to a medium light. The atmosphere is truly minimal, the people are friendly, and they know what the hell they're doing. This is it, for me.

John C.

Yelp
Customer service has been awful lately. I come into this coffee shop multiple times a week and every time the workers are grumpy. One of the workers said "what do you want" very carelessly and before I even got a single word out of my mouth. I have also witnessed them raising their voice to customers when people come in and have conversations with people like humans do. If you don't want people to talk in your shop then don't be a place that serves coffee and food. It makes me sad because me and my friends go here all the time and it's such a warm environment with good cheap coffee but lately the workers have been treating me and others poorly and I don't think I will go there as often anymore.

Faina G.

Yelp
This is what my avocado toast $5 looked like. They should be embarrassed serving something like that, needless to say after 1 bite it was gross.

Michelle S.

Yelp
Mocha Glacier is delicious. Lots of comfortable seating inside and outside. Convenient location. Walking distance from our Airbnb. Perfect way to kick off the CMA Fest weekend.

Phoebe B.

Yelp
Went to Portland Brew for the first time today and it was awesome! The staff was very friendly and it was the perfect place to get work done. I also got a the rainforest mocha, which was soooo good!

Catherine B.

Yelp
Had a quick iced coffee that was delicious and a breakfast sandwich. Amidst the sea of bachelorettes, PB had a little less tourist vibe and despite a really long line, I got everything super fast. Highly recommend!

TJ G.

Yelp
Cute establishment, a few parking spaces available. Relaxed casual feel. Some food selections that are up there with price for the small amount they give you. 2 food selections and 2 coffee options ran me $22. Husband got a hot rainforest mocha that was sweet and had a banana taste, I ordered a cold Carmel creme late. Had some daily specials, but ran out of ingredients. The baked goods are great, everything was sweet.

Jerry Z.

Yelp
So I have to preface by saying I'm reviewing this off coffee and ambiance alone. I'm also sort of a coffee snob and prefer very light roast/pour over coffee. The coffee here was pretty garbage, there's no sugar coating it. I had the drip coffee, but it was pretty nasty. The medium roast tasted like kindling, and the baristas didn't really look like they had any idea what they were doing. They menu only contained espresso drinks (lattes, cappuccinos, etc) and drip coffee. The ambiance was nice though, it was a very quiet place with a lot of people who were reading or doing work. No idea about the food, but the coffee was meh.

Sheena T.

Yelp
When Frothy Monkey has a line out the door, the coffee overflow customers come to Portland Brew. It is large and has plenty of space for people to hang out or work, and they offer your typical coffee shop fare with some food too. I stopped in for an iced coffee, and it was OK, but they don't offer soy or almond milk on the additions bar. That's a big bummer. Most places offer that! Otherwise, an OK place but I see why most people go to Frothy Monkey.

Nicole M.

Yelp
Originally from Portland, Portland Brew lives up to the coffee standards found in the Northwest. A rich and creamy texture leaves you full and coming back for more. Order ten drinks and get one free. The staff is welcoming and remembers the names of regulars who stop in. Currently orders are takeout only and the line can get long, but it's worth the wait.

Anna J.

Yelp
Really reasonable priced coffee, especially for the 12 south neighborhood! I really like that they offer honey syrup as well as almond milk with no extra charge. The food is decent as well, especially the omelets! I also like that it's not crazy loud in there or filled with too many tourist like frothy monkey! There is ample seating inside and parking around and in the back.
