"The Only Way to Spend Saturday Morning When traveling, I love to spend Saturday morning at the farmers market. There's no better way to meet the locals and get to know the town culture. What produce do they love? What coffee do they sip? What's the overall mood? One of the best Saturday morning farmers markets I've been to was in a giant park in Portland , Maine . The stalls were packed with reasonably priced, locally grown produce (of course, Maine blueberries were abundant). Despite the chilly morning temperatures, children played in a splash park and adults sipped locally made apple cider while listening to the various jazz musicians who had set up around the farmers market. Despite the crowds, parking was abundant (such a rarity!) as was the "Maine nice" that we found around the entire state."

Produce, baked goods, and food stalls galore! Walked through a beautiful, tree covered sidewalk on our way to the market (see photo attached). Once we arrived there were so many booths to choose from. It was hard picking out what to eat but settled on Twisted Croissant. They had both savory and sweet baked good options. Tried the Rosemary Ham & Cheese Croissant and the Wild Blueberry & Mascarpone Donut. Make sure to look behind you for a wait here sign when walking up to a booth. Made the wait fair and fast. The donut was deliciously light and just the right sweetness. And the croissant was fluffy, packed with so much filling, and what tasted like homemade mustard? Delicious! Still thinking about it one day later. Also tried golden raspberries for the first time from another stall. Tasted mostly like traditional red raspberries but still fun to try!

After visiting the weekend farmer's market, I picked up several new recipes. One time, I enjoyed some Chicken Teriyaki with noodles there. It’s a great spot to find fresh produce, flowers, and other local, handmade items! The market is also a place where you can make new connections—I once spent about 20 minutes chatting with a homeless woman I sat beside. Portland has a significant homeless population, so I’ve met quite a few people with unique stories. Some shared valuable insights that have stuck with me, including lessons that help me appreciate stability and avoid homelessness. The people I’ve spoken with offer wisdom that really resonates.

This market was awesome! So many good vendors! We only did one lap, but I could have done a couple to get more goodies!! Unfortunately I don’t know the names of all of the spots where we got things. I do remember a stand that had samples of peaches and nectarines that were out of this world. I definitely regret not getting in the (long) line for some!

This farmers market is phenomenal! The hidden gem today was the pepper jelly!

Had fun at the PSU Farmers market today on Dia De Los Muertos. Grabbed a shitake mushroom tamale and bean rice and cheese burrito from Sarah's tamales! Both were super yummy! Also grabbed a Dahlia flower boquet - Beautimous! A great place to spend the morning or afternoon and vendors galore! Street parking can be scarse so prepare for parking a few blocks away or in a garage. Great selection of Veggies & Fruits!

Fantastic food, lively and extremely fun place to hang out on a Saturday (or Sunday) morning for grocery shopping or just breakfast or lunch. Most places accept cards but some places will add a surcharge if you pay by card, and some places don’t take card at all so it’s wise to bring some cash. There are restrooms in the university building which is open to the public during market hours.

Yelp
Although it was a very cold crisp 32 degree morning weather in Portland, we braved a road trip to the Portland Farmer's Market held on the Portland State University campus. Was it worth the adventure? Absolutely! Beautiful "sunny weather" prevailed. Still cold but a beautiful campus filled with autumnal colors and a wonderful atmosphere of vendors offering all sorts of homemade food, products and goods. The year-round flagship farmers market, is held under the canopy of giant elm trees on the campus of Portland State University (PSU). Portland-area residents and chefs, along with visitors from around the world, flock to the market to browse as many as 100 vendor stalls featuring local farmers and food producers. Accepted Currencies at the Market Cash: Cash is accepted and typically the preferred payment method of vendors. Credit/Debit Cards: Many of the vendors take credit or debits cards. Look for signs or ask vendors before purchasing. Market Tokens are also available. Yelp
I had the most amazing time at the Farmers Market! On a weekend trip from San Francisco, where Farmers Markets are everywhere, I thoroughly enjoyed my time here. Such a great selection. We met a lovely couple in line and chatted with them while we waited for coffee. Shoutout to the Farmers Market for introducing us to two great people!

Yelp
From all the farmers markets around, this one stands out as my favorite. What sets it apart is not just the variety of fresh, local produce, but also the vibrant community atmosphere. The vendors here are incredibly friendly and passionate about their products, which makes each visit a unique experience. What truly makes this market a cut above the rest, though, is the food. The coffee is hands down the best I've had at any farmers market, perfectly brewed lattes. And don't even get me started on the breakfast burritos. They're a must try, packed with flavor and made with fresh ingredients. If you're looking for a market that has it all great food, a welcoming vibe, and quality produce, you need to come and check this one out yourself.

Yelp
One of my favorite farmer's market in Portland. Always has consistent and best vendors for veggies, fruits, and bread. I especially love the food vendors there and one of my favorites is Roam which serves homemade roti wraps. You can get your choice of protein in the wrap and it's full of seasonal veggies in the wrap. In additional, the bread vendors at this market are awesome! From Fressen to Dos Amigos breads and Gabriel's bread, you have all your bread varieties covered. The baked goods game is strong too! Love the cakes from Mio's Delectables. They have some pretty head turner cakes for any Holiday party this season! Go explore this market because it's worth it!

Yelp
This Saturday farmers market is a Portland staple. You can find your fresh veggies and fruits and other locally sourced foods, people watch, acquire flowers, get your breakfast/brunch/lunch, run into your community all in a few blocks' span. It's busy in a fun way. My favorite time to go is berry season.

Yelp
My favorite farmer market. I've been taking all my out of state friends to show them what a real farmer market looks like and this one delivers. It gets crowded during summer from all the tourists and locals/students but it's still worth it because of the variety of both good food, produce and gifts. And there's currently 2 Coraline cat statues around the area if you're into Tim Burton animation films. Some stalls get super busy like the fancy Asian bakery stall, the breakfast burrito and the family farm ones. My favorite stalls and products I've been buying from are: - Molly Salvadore's Tamales -- their market vegetable tamale is huge and amazingly fresh - Fraga - goat milk products

Yelp
Browsed the market today and saw a wide variety of goods from small batch liquors, bee products, small batch salsas, hot sauces and sauces, flowers, plants, fish, meat, dairy, produce (the berries are flourishing right now). If you have questions about this farmers market, message me and I'll find answers as I like visiting the market. I had a breakfast burrito from Enchanted Sun on the far south end of the market. Good quality ingredients and a balanced mix inside. I got the combo of bacon and sausage expecting to love the sausage as that's what I prefer over bacon, but the sausage was a little too mild in the burrito and the bacon shined. I'd order it with just the bacon next time and save a dollar ($10 combo, $9 single meat). The green salsa was pretty mild and didn't add much flavor to the burrito, but I don't have the most sensitive palate so others may love it as is.

Yelp
This place is always a joy to come to every and all season as they always have a variety of things to go with that season especially in fall when you have spice stuff and cozy warm things especially baked goods. I highly recommend checking out baked goods in the area as they're fresh and they just have amazing taste and they're big. You can't go wrong here, but I highly recommend trying to breakfast burrito which is always a hot spot to go for it cause it's packed all the way at the end, depending on which side you're coming from. Great people and supporting local feels good.

Yelp
LOVE this farmers market! * Amazing variety and selection of fruits, cheeses, food vendors * The breakfast burrito was my fave!! The line dies down closer to 1 or 2pm * Big Jam was one of my favorite finds - got the haskap jam which tasted like tart blueberry!

Yelp
Great place to buy your seasonal, grocery haul for the week or to bring your out-of-town guests. It's a huge market and the variety of shops makes every second worth it rain or shine! Things you should know: I. PARKING Street parking is available II. SERVICE There's a well diversified selection of shops at this particular market, ranging from locally sourced produce to a variety of desserts and palats of food. A few places we gravitate towards and recommend: 1.) Enchanted Sun: breakfast burritos. 2.) Mio's Delectables: Japanese pastries. 3.) Buddha Chocolates: they'll let you sample before you buy III. QUALITY Home-made and home-grown everything? I'd say that's better quality than buying processed and chemically-rich products from your local grocery store. Plus, produce here is very affordable in price.

Yelp
We love farmers' markets. Traveled 43 states and been to an equal number of markets. This is by far the best one we've been to. So many vendors with everything imaginable. Parking can be an issue but we found something a couple blocks away with a little effort.

Yelp
perfect way to start your saturday morning here ~ there are more organic and nutritious healthy groceries! a lot of botanical and floral products and good quality food from smol businesses. not as many jewelry or thrifty items from what i've seen walking around the whole farmers market in about 20 minutes or less.. street parking seems tuff but if you're lucky YIPPEEE

Yelp
Probably the coolest farmers market I've ever been to! So many different vendors that it was hard to choose from. Come early and bring your hunger because there's more than enough coffee and food to have a meal while you shop. Everyone was professional and kind, and the location was just right. You get to shop while being surrounded by trees! Definitely coming back and bringing visitors with me!

Yelp
I am a farmers market junkie. The PSU Saturday Market is one of the top three I have visited. The others being in Davisand San Luis Obispo California. Unbelievable variety of produce and artisan goods/food. The hatch chile burrito stand is bonkers good. Hot mama's salsa is outstanding and the foraged mushroom guys is so knowledgeable (and he is a "fun guy" too). Great way to start your weekend.
google avatar

Yelp
Best farmers' market. Local food, local produce, fresh and consistently high quality. All vendors also accept card, but a small surcharge for use at times. This market offers baked goods, to seasonal fruits and vegetables, sustainability caught seafood and pasture raised proteins, vegan and artisanal cheeses, dairy and nut milks, and heirloom products, and local eats. Not to be missed.

Yelp
It is an interesting market. There are many artsy things but I am just her for the weekend. They are not practical for travel.

Yelp
What an awesome farmers market! My Airbnb hosts insisted it was a must-do, and I'm so glad I went. Even first thing in the morning the streets are packed, but there is easy paid parking in the garage about a block away. There are sooo many tents of beautiful fresh produce, meats, eggs, honey, herbs, and pretty much any other grocery item. There are also tents with baked goods, coffee, pierogies, pizza, sandwiches, and other delicious treats. I got a breakfast burrito (despite the very long line) but it was fresh and delicious. The park is beautiful and there were multiple artists playing live music. It was the perfect way to spend a Saturday morning!
google avatar

Yelp
Lots of different food vendors available at the farmers market! Great prices and the best options to chose from for what you need at home. I love that there are multiple varieties available.

Yelp
I absolutely love this farmers market and if you've never been to farmers markets this should be the one you go to for the first time. I think they have vendors for anything you might ever need. My favorites before we moved to Hillsboro were Vtopian (vegan cheese), Groundwork Organics (organic produce), Buddha Chocolate, aMylk (vegan milk), Twisted Croissant, TreFin (fish), Orange & Blossom (vegan bakery), Roam (the best tofu wrap ever), etc. We're sadly too far to drive there every Saturday but we still do it once a month and it's year-round too.

Yelp
I have always been a fan of farmers markets. It allows you to get to know a geographic area fairly fast through the types and variety of vendors, food booths, sometimes local music and of course by watching and emerging with the locals. When we moved to Portland over 4 years ago - pre-COVID, the PSU Farmers Market was one of the first markets we attended. It was phenomenal! The variety of vendors from fresh fruits and vegetables, seafood, meats, and dairy products (including Vegan) provided such a huge variety of options. Then there were produced foods from middle easter products like hummus and numerous baked goods, which of course can be dangerous from the calories, but delicious. I also became a fan of a few specific vendors. Favorites for our family include Salmon from Native Candy, fresh brewed cider from Draper Girls' Country Farm, Hazelnuts from Freddy Guys Hazelnuts, and Happiness Family Farm which is a Black-owned farm in Portland. I also learned about Wild Roots Brewery here, which is now my favorite Vodka distillery. I have lived in CA and traveled the country and world and the Portland PSU Farmers Market to date is still one of my favorite all time markets. I am so glad I live here in Portland now and that a visit to the market happens typically 2-3 times per month. Definitely a must visit for both locals and visitors!!

Yelp
Having visited from Austin, Texas I was super impressed with the set-up and all of the great farmers and vendors that were set up here at the Portland Farmers Market. It is probably THE BEST farmers market I have been to. Located at the Portland State University this market is easily accessible to anyone and everyone. The pathways and areas to walk around were easy to navigate, and there are plenty of spots in the grass to hang out and enjoy the food or items you will find here. We had no fuss finding parking (we just waited for someone to leave the street side of parking for free), and had an easy time getting up and down and around each market vendor. There was so much to look at and get through that you must come ready to spend some of your money on high-quality items and food! I enjoyed this one coffee stand that was super unique and had an old-school, almost steampunk machine that was churning out delicious hot coffee and cocoa. They even provided our coffee in a reusable cup that you can leave at the stand and/or at the recycling spots and areas around the market. Super unique and sustainable way of getting your coffee! Plenty of flowers to choose from and there was even a group of musicians playing the soundtrack to our shopping experience on a Sunday. I saw a lot of kids and families enjoying the market as well, just proving that this market is for everyone!

Yelp
The Farmers Market @ PSU is located in the South Park Blocks and has a strong emphasis on high quality, organic products from passionate vendors with the best Oregon has to offer. Rather than the sugary offerings other markets might put out. How can they? It's Portland after all. I'm not sure about their hours- but I think it's held on Saturdays only. My daughter came here every week when she lived on this block. Now she lives elsewhere and continues shopping here to stock up on things. If I lived here, I'd shop every Saturday too! Vendors such as Tabor Bread, NomNom Taiwan, Verde Cocina, Creole Me Up, Buddha Chocolate and soooo many other stalls have a loyal following. Regulars however, make a beeline and line up at least 20 people deep for a pastry kiosk (forgot name) that's supposed to be very good- but it was chilly and drizzling so we kept it moving. Bring your basket or your reusable bag and get shopping. But if you just wanna hang, you can do that too.

Yelp
Such a good farmers market! The produce, flowers, food, music, everything about it makes for a lovely environment! I dream about the summer strawberries

Yelp
Get here early to avoid the mall walkers. People will just stop in front of you; Apparently, social awareness is not our city's forte. The vendors are great and the location is beautiful.

Yelp
Great atmosphere! Over 100 booths, nice selection, great vibe. Loved it! Parking was super easy.

Yelp
We stumbled across this market when out for a walk, exploring the neighborhoods around our hotel. They were close to closing when we arrived, so while most vendors were still selling everything they had, there were a few booths starting to pack up for the day. It's unfortunate that we visited on our last full day in the city. I would've loved to have been able to pick up some of the snacks or vegetables that were on sale. It's even more unfortunate that we'd already eaten lunch that day, as there were quite a few food stalls that were calling our names as we passed by. I loved the variety of items on sale - from the fresh produce and handmade snacks to the crafty gift items and everything in between - this market had everything I'd expect from a good farmers market. They were requiring visitors to be masked when were there (November of 2021), which everyone adhered to, thankfully. The market is fully outdoors, but you can't ever be too careful, right?
google avatar

Annabelle H.

Yelp
This was probably the biggest farmer's market I've ever been to! The selection was great, and it wasn't crowded like how the LA and SF ones get. Since we were only in town for a weekend, we just had brunch and bought some souvenirs to bring back. We picked up a couple of sticks of salami from Olympia Provisions - always a favorite, and stopped by two food stalls. One of them served Taiwanese steam buns, which were so delicious! The other one was serving Polish food and the potato dumplings and sausage were all so good! We'll definitely be stopping by again next time we're in town. There's a cool booth selling peppers that looked good too - they were roasting fresh peppers and it smelled great! Can't wait to come back.
google avatar

Yelp
This is one of the best farmers markets I've been to. There is a great variety of produce, pastries, hot food cooked fresh, beverages, flowers, alcohol, and more! I walked around a few times just to make sure I saw everything! I recommend Mio's Delectables as their desserts are so beautiful and tasty! If you're visiting Portland or a local, check it out!

Yelp
Our first stop when landing in Portland Saturday morning was the PSU Farmers Market. It was a cute market that wrapped around the center park. I liked the variety of unique vendors, and how everything was blended together- the food stands, flower stands, merchandise stands, etc. I tried the "Chinese hamburger pies" and had the curry beef and onion pattie. It had delicious flavors of curry, and it was hot for the cold weather. We also tried the artichoke and cheese tamale right next door, it was a delicious blend of flavors. Ask for extra salsa! We also stood in line at Mios for some cute Valentine's Day dessert, it was a little pricey but you're definitely paying for it's elegance. Happy Eats

Yelp
Like a foodie utopia. I had Bao, fresh plums, pastries that were mind blowing. If I lived closer I would befriend half the vendors. I haven't been to a better farmers market in years-

Yelp
What a fun place to visit and buy locally! The food is fresh directly from the farmers, fresh fish is excellent, too! Don't miss Dos Hermanos Bakery!

Yelp
By far the best farmer's market I've ever been to. Huge selection of vendors selling all sorts of things. Crowded, but pretty spacious and easy to walk around. Nearby parking lot for a few dollars if you can't find street parking. Prices were reasonable and if I lived in Portland, this is definitely where I'd go for super fresh organic produce, specialty items, meat, eggs and dairy. So many local farms featured here! The prepared food selection is also huge. We also really enjoyed the hot sauce vendor. 10/10 would return to this farmer's market. Super jealous of those who have this available to them locally. I live a couple hours away and will definitely be back!

Caron W.

Yelp
Never ever have I been to a better farmers market. Everything you can imagine!! Soup to nut. The atmosphere is so tranquil.. I can't stop thinking about how wonderful it was !! The music they play in the back by musicians was lovely!! If your near or far go !! Well worth the visit !!

Yelp
Great location Lots of parking but fills up fast, always people leaving though. Paid parking but for an hour and a half was $3.50 so not bad at all. Really nice campus/area to have a farmers market. Good selection and not too many people. First time to try Chicago style deep dish, my picky 6 year old approved!! Will be coming back for sure.

Yelp
I'm from out of town but I came here to check out the farmer's market and I was impressed at how big it was! It's at Portland State University in the courtyard and there is a few blocks worth of tents with fresh produce, baked goods, a lot of food stalls, and of course your random stuff like handmade snacks and goods. I was able to pick up a breakfast burrito from Enchanted Sun Breakfast burritos (that'll be in another post) and sat for a little bit to enjoy. I liked that since it's on campus, it has a lot of benches and random seating to enjoy in a tree lined area. I would be coming back if I lived here.

Yelp
Great healthy yet delicious breakfast and veggie selection. I stopped by VERDE COCINA for a bite. I selected their breakfast scramble which comes with a thick bacon cut and asked for cheese and habenero sauce. Steamed veggies, bacons, sauce, eggs, and 2 tortillas. You can make 2 breakfast tacos with significant amount of leftovers. Yes, the portion is huge!!! They specialize in Mexican breakfast with a twist and use healthy local ingredients. They also offer vegan options such as tofu scramble. I can't wait to come back next weekend and try their other plates. Also great friendly and fast customer service.

Yelp
Mark your calendars for this weekend wonderland! The PFM at PSU is not to be missed on your Saturday morning routine. This is the place to celebrate the best of each season that Portland and the surrounding areas have to offer. Of the PFMs, this is the largest and my favorite. If you've never been to a farmer's market, they have way more than just the best tomatoes and peaches in season. There's also meats, prepared foods, baked goods, international cuisine, coffee, flowers, gifts, and eggs sure to make the richest, orangest scramble of your life. What's best is it's local and keeps money in our economy while you get top quality ingredients for your family. So bring your reusable bags, some cash (and your card) and make a morning of it! You won't be disappointed!

Yelp
If you are looking for a good breakfast /brunch place on a lazy Saturday morning, the Farmer market by the Portland State University is a good place to start. It has over 50 vendors with many varieties to include fresh fruits & veggies, homemade breads & desserts, CBD kombucha, flowers, coffee & tea. The market also has food vendors representing many different cuisines including Chinese green onion pancake. Polish sausages, noodle soup, Ethiopian Taco, Mexican burrito...etc. Taiwanese Pork Belly Steamed Bun is amazing. Probably the best food stand in this market IMO. The pork is well seasoned & bun was a large and fluffy. It's a highlight of my Portland trip. I also tried a nitro tea which is interesting but does not live up to the standard of a nitro coffee. I also got some fresh cherries and washed those by the water station which is very convenient.

Yelp
Coined THE "Portland Farmer's Market", and rightfully so, this weekly event usually has over 100 vendors and takes place every Saturday (all year round) on Portland State University's campus. The hours are 9:00 am to 2:00 pm (Nov-Mar) and 8:30 am to 2:00 pm (April-Oct). It's situated in downtown Portland and is easily accessible via the Portland Streetcar. You can start wandering on the south end of the park and complete the circular loop, which takes approximately 2-3 hours to see what each vendor has to offer, try samples, or buy. If you're planning some grocery shopping, it will take longer because there are many vendors selling similar vegetables and produce items at different prices. I like tasting the cheese samples, meats, spreads, and chips. A few of my favorite food vendors were: Taste of Poland- It was a reminiscent feeling of home in SoCal when I saw they sell pierogis since I ate them from food trucks. The pierogi had potato and cheese filling and topped with grilled onions with a side of sauerkraut and sour cream. The filling was mediocre sized, but the taste was delicious with a smooth texture. They also sold "take home" packages of pierogis to fill your needs. Great Tang- They sold fried tang baos, which are similar to the big soup dumplings (sans the soup) that are fried and has a filling. I bought the chicken filling, which was most popular since there was a 10 mins wait for it. The size is a small discus and is very hot when you first bite into it. I thought they went heavy on the dough since it was thick. The filling was minimal, but the taste of the marinated chicken was appetizing. There were hints of soy sauce and savory spices. Via Chicago- They were selling $4.50 per slice Chicago pizza with with different toppings choices. I ordered two: Arty Par and Pepperoni, which were chocked full of cheesy goodness. However, the other flavors were masked by the cheese. It felt like an extra cheese pizza than a Chicago deep dish pizza, but was still delicious nonetheless. In addition, there is live music, chef demos, reusable plates and utensils provided; and best of all, credit cards are accepted. Keep in mind that there is a no pets policy.

Yelp
yelp did not fail me here. I read all the stellar reviews of the farmers market and it was a lot of fun on a nice winter morning to walk here. There were so many vendors at this farmers market. Initially, I didn't think it was that big but it circled the entire square. We picked up bone broth that was delicious, pizza - they offered both vegan and non-vegan options. Perfect for our family! We bought some delicious and fresh milk. We also got these Chinese buns with meat inside. It was pretty good. All in all, a pretty nice farmers market.

Yelp
Can't say anything wrong about this place. Occurs only on weekend and luckily we were there on weekend. $13 for parking nearby but after visiting the place was happy and no repent. Spanned across 2 blocks. Full of local food and many vendors selling plethora of stuffs. Puppet show , sea side view. Garden to eat under tree and kids playing in the fountains. This place had all.

Yelp
Wow. This is a SUPERB farmers market. We were visiting from Seattle and staying a few blocks away, so we strolled over for breakfast and to see what the market had to offer. The variety, quantity, and quality of the offerings was better than anything we've ever seen in Seattle. And Seattle has several great farmers markets. But we don't have any this good. We'll return the next time we are in Portland for a weekend. An outstanding experience.

THIS IS WHAT A FARMERS MARKET SHOULD BE! There are minimal prepared food vendors and then one of everything that you would need to prepare a gorgeous meal. Truth be told- I was here for Enchanted Sun burrito and my favorite salsa vendor. But I always take time to admire the fresh flower stations (SO REASONABLY PRICED). Parking was difficult to find but well worth the effort!

Yelp
HUGE Farmers Market on PSU's campus! A must go!! One of the best farmers markets I've been to! So many unique varieties of food, ranging from tamales to biscuits to huevos rancheros. Can easily spend a couple of hours here. Can grab lunch and get your grocery shopping in. There's at least 10 food stalls and a bunch of pastry stalls. Also lots of stalls selling fresh vegetables! Can't go wrong with food from any food stall! Would definitely recommend the huevos rancheros from Verde Cocina and the artichoke and cotija cheese tamale from another local tamale stall, next to Via Chicago. The deep dish pizza at Via Chicago was average and the biscuit with marionberry jam from Pine State Biscuits was really good!

Yelp
I went to Portland during my spring break and this is one of the places my brother took us to visit. I loved the vibe and everyone was so welcoming.

Yelp
In my opinion, wait a minute, who else's opinion would it be... PSU Farmers Market is thee best Farmers Market. In addition to multiple fruits and vegetable stands, there are multiple bakeries, and all kinds of unusual booths like sheep skin, homemade cheeses, and of course local microbreweries and kombucha stands. What impressed me the most though is their handling of the unusual situation we you live in now by controlling the number of people, keeping everybody apart, an offering to sign for eyes, so we don't hold the tablet and contaminate each other. To top it all off, it is located in the beautiful Park blocks at Portland State University.

Yelp
This Farmers Market is on another level. If you are visiting you just need to check it out to see it for yourself. I really wish that we were staying at a place with a kitchen so we could have cooked all of this delicious food.

Yelp
Fabulous Farmers market in the heart of the City, located on the North Park blocks on PSU Campus. The trees form a canopy so even on a hot day there is shade, and in the rain, there is protection. Produce is fresh and abundant reflecting what is in season. On my recent visit, peppers of every color, size, shape and heat were lining the stalls. One vendor even roasts them onsite and sells buy the pound, saving me the time and trouble of roasting. Buy them! The selection at this market is wide and varied: fresh meats and fish (duck, rabbit, elk, crab, salmon, oysters, etc); goat cheese, fresh eggs, homemade pasta, salsa, chocolate, jellies and jams, wine, vinegars, olive oil, and gorgeous affordable bouquets of flowers. The bread and bakery items are everywhere so if you are a carb-a-phobe, consider yourself forewarned! Fresh loaves of fig and walnut swirl bread, scones loaded with berries, nuts or chocolate; fresh pies overflowing with ripe fruit; tarts and cookies and cakes - oh, my! My favorites: The Market Gourmet (aka The Tart Lady) located in the middle of the south side. They offer several savory tarts filled with in season veggies like mushroom and Gorgonzola, potatoes leak, chicken pot pie, and sweet tarts like apple, sweet potatoe, pecan. They have several varieties of cookies, a daily quiche, and a delicious spinach pie which is basically Spanakopita in a pie shape (spinach, feta, egg.) I buy the individual savory tarts and freeze them. On nights where I don't feel like cooking, I pop one in the twister oven and serve with a fresh arugula salad. Perfect meal. My other favorite is Mio's Delectables, a booth loaded with Japanese inspired sweats. This is Bakery meets Art. Her creations are so beautiful, so artfully designed that you want to photograph and frame them! But don't let this stop you from eating them - they taste as good as they look! Her tiny macaroons and shortbread cookies with flavors like green tea are packed with flavor. Fresh fruit is layered on tarts giving the appearance of a rose. Every item is a work of art. If you are having guests for dinner and want to finish the meal on a high note, buy a selection of her individual desserts and share. You and your guests will be delighted! The prepared foods are just as good. Lines of people wait at Pine Street Bisquits at the North end. There is a line for a reason! Their seasonal adult pop-tarts are worth the calorie splurge! There is a Korean truck selling steamed bun creations that are wonderful. Gyros, pizza, bagels, sausages - the list goes on and on! If you are on a mission and want to walk with purpose to pick up specific items and be on your way, go early! Between 8 and 9:30. After that, it's packed and it takes patience to make your way around the square. People are walking slowly, stopping frequently for tastings and samples, meandering, taking it all in - as they should! It's as much an experience as a shopping venue. So if you don't like crowds or are going just to shop, go early. Fabulous Farmers market with delicious, amazing offerings of every season!
