15 Best Hotels in Portland, Maine

"The Portland Harbor Hotel has undergone a major update since opening in 2002, giving it a decidedly more modern personality and nautical vibes. In keeping with the theme in the public spaces, guest rooms have a seafaring thing going on. This is a hotel to book if you want to be in the center of everything in Portland. It's in tourist central in the Old Port, which means you're just down the street from the city's best restaurants and bars." - Joe Ricchio, Alexandra Hall

Portland Harbor Hotel

"Why did this hotel catch your attention? The Portland Harbor Hotel has undergone a major update since opening in 2002, giving it a decidedly more modern personality with nautical vibes. Tell us about the rooms. Any tips on what to book?In keeping with the rest of the hotel, rooms here have a seafaring thing going on. Some have views of the city or garden, and all have comfy beds and linens. Glass-enclosed showers have granite tile work and suites have whirlpool tubs with built-in sound systems. Each floor has a breakfast nook featuring a touch-screen Starbucks coffee machine. Is there a charge for Wi-Fi?Wi-Fi is free. Drinking and dining—what are we looking at?Blue Fin Restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner (and provides the room service); dishes include classics like oysters Rockefeller as well as strong original creations like lobster pappardelle with sage cream sauce. If you're looking for something al fresco, there are few better places to relax and sip cocktails than the garden patio. And the service? Staff is professional and accommodating; the concierge is particularly knowledgeable. What else is in the neighborhood? You're in the heart of the Downtown Old Port, just down the street from some of the city's best restaurants and bars. Bottom line: Why are we choosing the Portland Harbor Hotel? It's one of the better high-end hotels in the Old Port and its character shines through in a way it doesn't always at bigger chains." - Joe Ricchio

We visit Portland at the beginning of spring (2025), and the city was amazing. The Hotel is fantastic, well located, close to the most interesting area of the city. Everything in the hotel was perfect. My wife and I recommend. The staff are kind, and a Brazilian woman works at the hotel. Everything is very clean and organized. Nice food and a romantic winter garden invites for a good wine. Don't forget to try the lobsters.

This was a great hotel! Perfect location. Rooms were very nice. The restaurant breakfasts were so good! Room were quite. I liked having a pantry on each floor that had breakfast items and drinks. Eulid keeps it well stocked and is such a nice person.|Valet parking only.

We went to Portland, Maine for a family holiday and stayed at Portland Harbor hotel. The location of the hotel is undisputed the best. The same being located at the start of the Fore Street, which is one of the most happening and beautiful streets of Portland. it is also next to commercial street and harbor, which are just 5 mins by walk.||||The hotel has a beautiful vibe and warm lobby. The lobby has a " Joe coffee" as they call available throughout the day for grab and go.||The hotel has a beautiful restaurant and bar, which opens to a patio, with a small water feature and fire place.||||The rooms, were very comfortable and nice. We were in a suite onlooking the patio/garden, which looked beautiful during the night hours. The bathroom was big and had an independent Jaccuzi.||||Every floor at this hotel has a small pantry, that is free to all guests and is included in the resort fees. It includes availability of tea and coffee, water bottles, sparkling water, basic fruits throughout the day and also yogurt and cookies and some tarts during morning hours. This further made the stay more comfortable, as you always have the basics available.||Further-more, in lieu of the resort fees, the hotel gives a credit that can be used at the bar, restaurant or even at a small tuck shop that they have.||||I may mention special thanks to “Josh” at the front desk who was more than hospitable and made sure, to grant our every desire. He is definitely an asset to the hotel, and has never shirked from anything at any hour. He did set up a fireplace for us, to have our family time together. It was something that will always be cherished.

Excellent location to walk to all the downtown restaurants and shops on the harbor side of Portland! Hotel was very clean and nice. Our room had everything we needed and was comfortable. Excellent service with very helpful front staff to provide recommendations. Parking in the attached hotel garage was easy and convenient for a reasonable fee. Would definitely stay here again if we returned to Portland!

Great hotel… perfect location, comfortable, clean and great staff. Valet staff were great. Thoughtful drinks and snacks on every floor. If I need to find a negative. I would say there’s only one elevator. I would definitely stay here again!

Perfect place to stay if you’re visiting Portland! In a great location- very easy to walk to restaurants, bars, and the ferry. The rooms are clean, and the service is very attentive. Although valet is $45/day, it’s super convenient and you know where your vehicle is. The $35 daily resort fee can be used on room service/the restaurant/ bar which we used after a long day of exploring! I would highly recommend staying here!

The location of this hotel is perfect if you want to walk around downtown Portland. The room was clean and comfortable for three days. Regarding the $45 a night parking, it's cheaper than the nearby public lots, which have terrible reviews. Plus, when the snow came my car was underground. However, they tell you to message them when you need your car. I did and waited 15 minutes with no response. Went down there and the kid was on his phone. So that's not super reliable. Additionally, there's a $35 a night amenities fee included. They say you'll have a credit to use towards room service, but with a $5 room delivery fee and 20 percent tip automatically included on top of high prices, that's not going to go very far. This is a good hotel for adults, especially seniors. I enjoyed my stay but now that I know the city I might opt for something else next time.

What a pleasant surprise! Everything about our stay from check-in with Adam to the upgraded room, to the lovely amenities in the pantry, to THE BEST martini expertly crafted by Connor, to dinner and nightcap with Raine, this place was a delight on every level. My only complaint is we’re not here longer.
