Portland State University

As an alumna, I'm no doubt biased, but I return often for the art, music, and theater offerings. Most are great artistry and musicianship at reasonable prices. A city-centered university, PSU is accessible, friendly, and has a pleasant urban campus vibe with great restaurants, and cultural experiences like the Portland Art Museum and the Oregon Historical Society nearby. The Schnitzer and Keller Auditoriums present Portland Opera and Oregon Symphony within walking distance. Outstanding research areas include urban planning, homelessness, climate science, engineering, environment and economy, sustainable solutions, semiconductors, transportation and much more.

This school has some of the most incompetent professor you will ever have the displeasure of "learning" from. I have not learn anything that i believe actually has furthered me in me degree and despite me trying have yet to find a professor i could connect with or at least learn something from. Also all the classes you have to take due to it being a librel arts school are some of the lowest quality classes, and every online class psu offers is truly astonishing what they allow the professors to not do. Over all I don't recommend this school to anyone who wants to learn well getting there degree.

Portland State University has always been a very diverse and welcoming space. there's a feeling of inclusivity and a relaxed air about the space, but the work that is done here is taken no less seriously than at any other institution of higher learning that I've been to in my 5 years as a college student.

I was sexually harassed by several teachers here, and discriminated against on the basis of my disability, ethnicity, gender, and profession. In retaliation for me reporting these things and talking about them in public, the school expelled me and banned me from campus after I graduated with honors. They did so illegally and without due process. I dropped my lawsuit against them after I realized that they expelled me in order to provoke me to sue them on civil rights grounds. I am not your slave, PSU. Slave days are over.

I visited the UPS store that's on the ground level to overnight ship my sister's medication she accidentally left when she came to see me. She lives in New Mexico and I'm in Portland. I was shocked at the prices for overnight shipping 150$ I thought it would be like 15 bucks but nope. I had no choice so I paid it because my sister needs her meds. I will never use there services again and found out later that USPS would have only charged 25$. If you need this kind of service please don't get robbed by the UPS store. What a scam.

Departments don't seem to communicate across very well. There isn't really tuition free degree for transfers, it's the Pell grant unless u qualify for other loans. Classes aren't always available when needed and required classes or steps needed for transfers result in burnout and feel remedial, taking classes you don't or shouldn't need for said degree to fulfill full-time requirements which then use up your Pell time limit and mental capacity, especially for those juggling family and full-time work and then you find out with only a few classes actually related to your degree left and the other degree requirements that you won't be able to take the last few terms to graduate unless you have $5k/term to throw away and just wasted time with filler classes.

A beautiful university in the heart of downtown PDX. My daughter has had a wonderful experience here as an undergrad. It’s not the most prestigious university so if that kind of thing is important to you, you may want to spend an extra 30,000 for no reason. At the end of the day, you get what you give. My daughter is in her senior year and has had awesome professors (according to her, I’m not a helicopter parent so don’t engage with them personally, it’s her life and if by 21 you’re still engaging with your kids professors that’s something you should reevaluate). She’s self motivated and has gotten herself a fantastic opportunity to intern in a lab at OHSU, into the honors program and on the deans list each quarter so ultimately, as she prepares for graduate school to get her phd, I am confident she made the smartest choice in not opting for a more prestigious school just because she could. The complaints I hear about homelessness, etc., are overblown and in almost every urban city in America. They’ve never been violent or dangerous to her or any of her friends and are certainly less dangerous than trust fund nepo frat boys coddled by mommy & protected from consequences for their actions by daddy’s $. So if you can get over yourself & if your student doesn’t rely on you or AI to write their essays, hire someone or fill out your kids college applications and plan their summer trip in Europe for them, then PSU is a fantastic option. IF, Trump doesn’t ruin it by sending in troops and creating a war,

There are nice areas of campus to walk and appreciate the city. As far as the academics, I think their record is evident, certainly successful in many departments; worth your consideration.
