Porto A.S. 1829 Hotel

Very nice charming hotel. Rooms are very cozy. Small shower/toilet but very well done. The shower is very nice. Our room had a little seat with table as well. They offered really nice chocolates, wine and water. A real treat to have stayed here. The breakfast was a bit disappointing, all fresh but small variety and what should be warm was fairly cold BUT didn't spoil our stay at all!

Fantastic hotel! Friendly and efficient staff. Breakfast was great with lots of choice and items replenished quickly. Great location. Everything is walkable from there. Room clean and comfortable with view of the street. So quiet at night. Slept very well.

The staff were excellent, we were only there for one night, and the receptionist recommended so many things to do, the hotel room was gorgeous, it looked like a room you would pay 1000 euros a night in Paris. The hotel was close to everything. I loved the big soaker tub, as by the end of the night my legs ached from hills and stairs. I never wanted to leave. The hotel and staff were excellent I hope to be back for much longer than a day. We also got a welcome drink, very nice welcome

This hotel was a gem. Perfect location right in between the upper and lower areas of Porto and a short 7 minute walk from the Sao Bento train station. The room was well appointed, spacious and very clean and comfortable. Breakfast here was wonderful with a nice selection including papaya and smoked salmon! The staff was friendly and helpful. I will definitely stay here the next time I visit Porto!

We had a pleasant experience. The staff was very nice, the room was clean w nice linens. The room did have a quirky shower but it was fine. The shower area was in the hallway of the room. The only disappointment was the restaurant on site was closed during our stay but plenty of places to walk close by. I had no concerns for my belongings or safety as mentioned in previous reviews.

We had a great stay at Porto AS 1829 Hotel. The location is excellent—quiet, elegant, and perfectly placed in Porto’s historic center. It’s about a 10-minute easy walk to the Douro riverfront and Dom Luís I Bridge, and also 10 minutes to the public transport hub near São Bento station.|The staff is extremely friendly, helpful, and professional. The hotel is very clean, and the room was well-equipped, comfortable, and nicely decorated.|The continental breakfast was excellent and varied, with very good coffee.|As the hotel is in a historic building, some rooms may not have a balcony, and the shower, while modern and well designed, is not very spacious—a minor detail that didn’t affect our stay.|Overall, a charming hotel with great service in an ideal location. Highly recommended.

The is a little and boutique hotel. Loved the location. Had a 2nd floor which had stairs to another bedroom. Bathroom was small and controlling heater/AC was a bit difficult. Overall I will highly recommend this hotel for anyone looking to have a good time in Porto.

We booked a short break at an affordable price. We were expecting basics but were pleasantly surprised when we checked in. We arrived early but 'Hoy' (sorry about spelling) couldn't have been nicer. Our room was ready so we were checked in. Ample space, well presented, clean and tidy. Complimentary water, tea and coffee with milk lol. Not a complaint but some people would the shower paint was slightly fading in places. This in no way detracts from the stay. Breakfast included and the choice is way above the chains in the U.K. The waiting staff provided great information and service. We would highly recommend.

We loved this place! Hands down the best food!! The location, service amazing. The pork is delicious and the desert was an extremely good! Delicious unforgettable. Not enough compliments! The pasteleiro amazing

This hotel has so much going for it... PRO'S: - excellent location with shops and restaurants right outside the door - a young, enthusiastic and helpful staff. Kudos to the gal who works the front desk (unfortunately, I can't recall her name, but I believe she may be the only female front desk attendant), who so graciously recommended some fabulous restaurants for us! - complimentary Portugese Egg Tarts and port, which seemingly was available 24/7 - a nice sit-down breakfast in a Michelin star restaurant, located in the lobby - a mini fridge stocked with complimentary snacks and drinks - a basic room that did the job CON: All that being said, there's one aspect that was not so appealing, which was the clawfoot bathtub/shower combo. It's literally located in the bedroom, separated only by a partition. Whenever we showered, humidity filled the room, which is a huge pet peeve of mine. I doubt this is a European feature, since I've traveled all over Europe and have never encountered this. Also, the shower curtain definitely needs to be replaced, as it was moldy on the bottom. Yuck! Because of this, I left the curtain wrapped around the outside of the tub, which resulted in water all over the floor. Neither a practical or good set-up at all! To top all that off, the most frustrating aspect, and I'd go out on a limb to say even dangerous aspect of the clawfoot tub/shower in our room, was the fact that the tub wasn't even bolted down. When Hubby was showering, he swore he felt that the tub was sinking into the floor. I thought he might have had too much to drink, except for the fact that he barely even drinks. So, how could that possibly be?!? Upon further inspection, I noticed that the tub wasn't at all stable, and that I could easily push it back and forth. What?!? We notified the front desk, and they fixed it but that was plain unsafe. How could a bathtub be wobbly whenever you moved around in it? That was really an accident just waiting to happen!! If you can tolerate the clawfoot tub/shower I think you'll find this hotel flawless. Just take this aspect into consideration, since you'll be showering everyday, right?!?

Wonderful hotel with friendly helpful staff. Super location for walking the City and seeing all Porto has to offer. Only concern was the bathtub /shower Combo. Not meant for adults. Too small to bath or shower easily. For the price we paid it would have been nice to have proper shower. Other rooms I'm sure have better. Great breakfast.

For our stay in Porto we choose this extremely well situated hotel in the historical center of Porto. The hotel has been freshly stablished in an historical building giving a real charm to the place and to the rooms. The service was friendly already before arrival - it is always nice to receive an email q few days before a stay to check if everything is all right and to provide some info on the city. While onsite the service has continued to be great!

Hotel was wonderful with amazingly helpful staff, great location, fabulous restaurant, best breakfast buffet. Only drawback was the odd tub/shower arrangement as noted in other reviews. Otherwise was perfect

Our stay at this hotel has been storybook magic. We had a wonderful room over a historical plaza that provided endless views and entertainment. The staff was more than highly accommodating and friendly. They cared very much about the quality of our stay. We fell in love with one of the hotel concierges, Bruno. He was above and beyond with service, humor and help. A close second were the rest of the waiters and reception. The restaurant has an amazing vegetable soup and great wine. An amazing location as well. Also, this hotel is concerned with eco-sustainability and it walks the way it talks. STAY HERE!
