My husband and I stayed at Portobay Hotel Teatro for 3 nights during our stay in Porto. As other reviews say this hotel was clearly built with design in mind, not functionality. It features theater- like elements throughout, including curtains and an overall dark/dim lights appearance. Our room was pretty tight, with barely any space to open up and lay out our two suitcases and to still have room to walk around them. The bed and bathroom were separated by a curtain. There wasn't much room to lay out my own toiletries and make up by the sink however there were a few shelves opposite of the sink, by the closet. There's a safe and mini bar in the bathroom as well. There was a blow dryer which worked very well. The biggest downside was the AC. We stayed here in mid- February however it was still pretty warm, with temperatures in the mid 50s- 60s. It got a bit stuffy in our room and when we asked the front desk about the poor quality of the AC they said that there is a limit to how low you can set the temperature. We also found that the AC was auto controlled and it turned off at times.
Other than this, there were several positives to our stay. The hotel is conveniently located 10 min away from the train station (it cost us 3 euros to Uber it from the train to the hotel) and about 20 min away from the airport (13 euros Uber). I remember that the hotel offers airport shuttle to/from the airport but don't remember exactly how much it was. Uber was definitely cheaper though and very easy and quick to get a car.
Breakfast was included as part of our stay. Coffee wasn't that good (we had much better in Lisbon). There was a variety of fruits, cold cuts and cheeses, pastries, pancakes, scrambled eggs, etc. There were potatoes on the first morning but that's it.
There were many restaurants, cafes, and souvenir shops around the hotel. There is also a theater right next to the hotel. We didn't check a chance to check it out but did see a huge line of people lining up to get in every night. The famous book store, Torre dos Clerigos Tower, Museum of Discoveries, and Ribeira boat tour are all nearby.
The hotel has its own restaurant and we were given a voucher for two glasses of wine each time we would dine there. We did not end up using it though.
