We have just spent a week at Porto Bay and from our arrival to our departure we were very impressed with the service we received from all the staff at the hotel. We were staying in one of the suites from which we had a wonderful view of Copacabana Beach. We arrived early as our flight landed at 05:30 and we were able to access our room earlier than the normal check in which we appreciated after an overnight flight. Sacha on the front desk and his colleagues were very welcoming and were happy to offer recommendations for restaurants, etc. The hotel has a beach area which is manned by an excellent couple of young guys. These guys couldn't do enough for us and are a real credit to the hotel. The breakfast and bar staff are hardworking and friendly and again are a credit to the hotel.|Prior to booking I agonised over booking Porto Bay or The Fairmont and I am so pleased that we chose Porto Bay. The location is great and there are some excellent restaurants very close by. We did visit The Fairmont which is a lovely hotel but Porto Bay had a more intimate feeling as The Fairmont is a bigger and busier hotel. Porto Bay just felt a lot more relaxing and calmer.|The hotel upon arrival give you some information regarding several tours to which we did not avail of as we had already booked a private guide for two days. For those interested in attending football games they have an option to books tickets and travel to and from the stadium fyi.|I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this hotel.

The hotel looks AMAZING. Very dark and moody but in a good way. My panoramic view room was not well maintained. The AC didn't quite cool to full capacity. Bed was on the medium firm side, which I like, but the bed sheets were a slippery sateen fabric instead of crisp cotton and did not do well with cooling the body. A couple of recessed lights were out in my room, and the soft light in the bathroom flickered, so I left it off. These are all easy fixes, and hopefully they can be addressed after my review. ||||But I cannot say one bad thing about the staff. They hire amazing people. And the location is superb. Would I stay here again for the same price--NO. Would I do it for a super discounted rate and not more than two nights--YES.

This place was great. Not my first time to Brazil, but my first time as an American to Rio. I will say this… all the bad rumors of Rio are not true. Yes, you need to be careful but EVERYONE is amazingly nice. The staff at this hotel went above and beyond and did an amazing job for us. Especially those guys who work the breakfast service in the morning - they are some of the friendliest people you will ever meet!! Great hotel and great service!

We had a wonderful stay at the Portobay Hotel Rio de Janeiro. From the moment we arrived, the staff were warm and welcoming, but a special thank you must go to Sacha, who truly went above and beyond to make our trip unforgettable.|Sacha was full of enthusiasm and always ready with fantastic recommendations on where to visit, which gave us a much deeper appreciation of Rio. His local knowledge was invaluable, and it really helped us make the most of our time in the city. On top of that, he managed to upgrade our room, which made our stay even more special.|Thanks to Sacha’s thoughtfulness and energy, we left Rio with incredible memories. We can’t thank him enough and would highly recommend this hotel—not only for its comfort and location, but for the outstanding service provided by people like Sacha.

Very nice hotel and location. There should be more English speaking people at the service desk. It was very hard to communicate with staff. Also, even though the location was great with the beach and beach service was excellent it was not a safe area at night. We were followed twice and asked if we wanted to purchase cocaine/weed just walking the hotel strip.

I’m giving a 5 stars because of its price–value. • Amazing water pressure in the shower ✔️ • Comfortable pillows ✔️ • A gym with a stunning view and plenty of space for a proper workout ✔️ • Fair pricing ✔️ • Friendly staff and overall very clean ✔️ Dear Hotel, you should advertise your gym more — it is absolutely stunning!!!Even if everything else were average, I would still give 5 stars because I don’t think any other hotel has a fitness room like this. Also this is one of very few hotels that has balcony in a room!!! That said, if we’re comparing this to 4-star hotels in major European or American cities, it doesn’t quite reach that level. But for Rio standards, this is excellent.

Our six nights in Rio after an epic 8 day Peru adventure didn’t start the best as the first room (1909) had a strong unpleasant smell. We were moved and the second room was much better and we relaxed into the holiday. Every member of staff were a delight to deal with and nothing was too much trouble. The roof top pool and bar was a highlight and the food generally excellent.||The hotel rooms in particular will need updating in the not too distant future but it wouldn’t put us off staying again as the location was superb.
