This is a lovely hotel in a very good location in Copacabana. Several restaurants available within a short walking distance. The hotel was clean, rooms made up daily and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Special mentions to Daniel who helped arranged our transfer to Ilha Grande, and Alice on reception who was very accommodating and even helped my friends changed rooms. Overall, it was an enjoyable stay. Unfortunately due to the cold weather we did not get to experience the roof top pool or the beach club but I imagine this being a huge plus when the weather is nice. Still worth going up to the roof top to soak in the lovely view. We did not eat in the hotel so can’t comment on the food. ||PS Try to avoid the corner rooms as the bathrooms are a little smaller. May be worth splurging for the sea view room if you are there longer as with the side sea view you can only see the beach when on the balcony.

We had a wonderful stay at the Portobay Hotel Rio de Janeiro. From the moment we arrived, the staff were warm and welcoming, but a special thank you must go to Sacha, who truly went above and beyond to make our trip unforgettable.|Sacha was full of enthusiasm and always ready with fantastic recommendations on where to visit, which gave us a much deeper appreciation of Rio. His local knowledge was invaluable, and it really helped us make the most of our time in the city. On top of that, he managed to upgrade our room, which made our stay even more special.|Thanks to Sacha’s thoughtfulness and energy, we left Rio with incredible memories. We can’t thank him enough and would highly recommend this hotel—not only for its comfort and location, but for the outstanding service provided by people like Sacha.

Very nice hotel and location. There should be more English speaking people at the service desk. It was very hard to communicate with staff. Also, even though the location was great with the beach and beach service was excellent it was not a safe area at night. We were followed twice and asked if we wanted to purchase cocaine/weed just walking the hotel strip.

We loved our stay at Portobay. Perfect location, friendly staff who gave us wonderful suggestions for tours (including a fascinating visit to a favela and the Tijuca Forest). The room was great, the service awesome, the food fantastic. Loved the rooftop bar. Highly, highly recommend.

We’ve been staying at the Porto Bay Hotel in Rio de Janeiro, and from the moment we arrived, it’s been a fantastic experience. The hotel itself is beautiful — the rooms are spotless and comfortable, the breakfast in the morning is absolutely heavenly, and the staff are so friendly and welcoming. It’s in a perfect location too, right on Copacabana Beach. We booked through Trailfinders and couldn’t be happier we chose to stay here.||During our stay, we were lucky enough to have not one but two incredible guides who made our trip truly unforgettable.||One day, reception arranged a driver named Rodrigo to take us to the Botanical Gardens. On the way, he asked how adventurous we were feeling and suggested a visit to a local favela if we felt comfortable. We decided to give it a go — and it turned into the highlight of our trip. Rodrigo showed us a completely different side of Rio, introduced us to locals, and even took us to an amazing spot for lunch. It felt safe, genuine, and eye-opening in the best possible way.||We also spent three days with Marcello, another wonderful guide who we instantly warmed to. He took us to Christ the Redeemer, Sugarloaf Mountain, and even made sure we got to the airport smoothly. Marcello was so kind, hard-working, and attentive — we loved spending time with him and truly appreciated how much care he put into making our days special.||We already loved our stay at Porto Bay, but the experiences with Rodrigo and Marcello were the icing on the cake. Highly recommend both the hotel and these two exceptional guides for anyone visiting Rio.||— Daniel & Toby

The staff is great, very kind and polite. The breakfast is wonderfull, the pool view is perfect. The only problem is the noise outside the room. You can hear the cleaning staff, the other PAX, everybody who was transit out side, specially the room next door. The walls are not accoustic at all. You can hear EVERYTHING from everywhere. The PAX in the room next door was coffing all night long...it seems like they where inside our room. Do not take the rooms close to the elevators

The stay at the property was positive overall. However, I would like to point out the lack of willingness from the staff to meet even the “basic” needs of guests. On the last day, we had an early flight with a taxi booked for 6:30 a.m., while breakfast started at 6:30. We asked if we could quickly grab something 5 minutes before breakfast officially started, but our request was denied, despite the breakfast room and buffet already being fully set up.|Definitely a lapse in style, as it would have cost the hotel nothing and left the guest dissatisfied! The staff could also definitely improve in terms of friendliness and hospitality.

Great location, helpful staff, clean if not a little dated in areas. Prestige rooms are better. Breakfast is excellent with attentive waiters. Pool area and bar excellent with fabulous views of the beautiful Rio landscape. Really enjoyed our 4 night stay and will recommend.
