If I could, I would give 3.5, I would. above average but short of very good. The location of the hotel is excellent, facing the beach. We had an expensive top floor room with amazing view over Copabana. Really unforgettable. The roof terrace has great views and you can see beautiful sunset. However, given the standard and price, this was not as good as expected. The decor is tired (mid 1980’s). We had a dirty broken chair in our chair (although quickly changed when asked but with a less comfortable alternative). Every furniture was a little chipped. The bathroom is ok but one of the taps was loose. The staff was nice and responsive when asked but not proactive at all. It could be fantastic but a little short of that.

I came to Rio on a solo trip to celebrate a milestone birthday and ring in the New Year. PortoBay was the perfect hotel for location. This hotel is directly across the street from Copacana, Ubers are easily accessible to get you around, and you are right in the middle of the Nee Year Eve concert and fireworks show to ring in the New Year. My room has a balcony with a side view of the sea. Perfect way to relax after a long day of exploring. The hotel is cute, but quaint. The staff is so welcoming, friendly and always willing to help. I enjoyed the breakfast, lunch and room service options. I also enjoyed the rooftop for the relaxing vibe it provides. Overall, I enjoyed my time at PortoBay and will be back next time I’m in Rio.

Very nice and helpful staff (special thanks to Sacha at the reception!), great location and beautiful view. Nice bedding and clean room, very good food at the restaurant. The staff was accomodating enough to let us use the pool and other hotel facilities even after check-out while we were waiting to catch our flight back home. Thanks again!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. I was looking at all the poor reviews and it seems that the hotel has improved a few things over the past years. Breakfast, the view, the staff are amazing. The bed is large, the sheets and towels are nice and everything was clean, including the balcony glass. There is a coffee pod machine (albeit $10 per pod and potentially not every room has one) and complimentary water bottles. Sometimes you need to wait a little while for the lift. Otherwise we were very happy and very grateful for the upgraded room!

I wouldn’t recommend this hotel - the staff is very strange, not welcoming and accommodating. If you’re coming with a toddler, they assume a baby past 6 months doesn’t need a crib so they won’t offer you one. Quite absurd for a hotel with this many rooms. Reply- sure, room 1709. And yes I sure hope you have baby cribs for the size of your hotel. Your staff is quite clueless.

The only thing good about this hotel is the area. The staff is very dismissive when complained about the poor AC quality. I am on the six floor. This is a problem because i overhead another guest who is on the 19 floor complaining about the AC. We had food on the roof top bar when it came it was cold. They stated it got cold because the kitchen is on the 5 floor then offered us a 30% discount off the bill. The mini fridge was dirty the room had a bad odor. This was my third complaint when ask about the same thing they pretended as if it was the first time. I book this hotel based on the reviews. I can’t wait to leave. Could not wait to write this review. Please don’t come here.

Very good hotel. Clean and good location. Some facilities maybe outdated, but it does not impact the use of room overall. The front desk is friendly, and they have on site spa, not big, but it is enough. The hotel has 20 stories, I think it is one of the tallest hotel in the area, give you a good view of the beach and ocean.

This is a lovely hotel. We had a corner room with views of the beach. The breakfast choice was also good. We arrived at the hotel at 8am after a long flight from London and could not get into our room until 3pm, which was very disappointing. Good location.
