Fanciest place we went to for a meal in Madrid. And it was worth the hype. Went for lunch in the middle of the week so it was quiet. The food was excellent, service was superb. We nearly left crawling on the floor - we were so full. Highly recommended. If you are allowing yourself just one splurge while in Madrid - let it be a meal here.

I went there on a Saturday evening for dinner. The place is beautiful, great atmosphere and perfect service. Prices per person is 100€ formula. But it offers a big quantity of food. High quality place in la Latina. The place is 2 floors, big space and amazing interior. The staff specially Javier are amazing and helpful. Well recommended.

Google
Found this restaurant by accident while looking for Tapas on a busy street. Was pleasantly surprised to find this restaurant specializes in roasted lamb. We tried the signature lamb and it was phenomenal. Fall off the bone tender, rich and flavourful. The service was friendly and helpful. This restaurant appears to be quite popular with tourist, but shouldn't be dismissed based on this. However, be warned that the cost can be high. Overall this is a recommended spot for meat lovers in Madrid.

We LOVED our dinner at Posada de la Villa: Great traditional "old Madrid" food, beautiful atmosphere, and fantastic attentive service! The roast lamb is a must and is as good as advertised (two of us finished it completely, but we would have happily shared it among 3 or 4 people). I was worried that this restaurant would be all meat, but we had the grilled asparagus with our lamb and it was outstanding as well -- perfectly grilled (if a bit pricey), and perfect for sharing. Complementary sweet treats round out the meal. Jose Andres was right -- this is a must reservation in Madrid.

I want to 1st clarify that we came here not for the affordability of the food but rather the experience for an establishment that has been around for over a century. It felt like we were teleported back into the 1900s and how all the decor still resembles something of an old time charm. We had to try their claim to fame roasted lamb for 2. They surfed the usual tapas and we were quick delighted when the presented the quarter lamb whole before it was cut up and served. It was a rather simple seasoning with salt and pepper but it was tender and moist. Full of flavor in every bite. We can't even finish it and thought the roasted veggies were unnecessary. It would have been nice to have a few more friends to dine with us so we can share more dishes. We inquired about the name on the chairs and was informed that those were famous people that sat on them and it is now their chair. We were later given the key to the inn as souvenir and the staff invited us back when we ever visit Madrid again in the future.

Google
The Oldest Inn of Madrid is the setting for this one of a kind restaurant. You can smell the house specialty roasted lamb cooking in the wood oven as you walk in the doors. The hostess showed us the oven and gave us a nice history lesson. Of course my wife and I ordered the roasted lamb and we were not disappointed. We also ordered roasted veggies and sliced potatoes. The lamb is served in a hot terra cotta bowl with broth and the waiter prepares it table side and serves it too you. The meat falls off the bone and is flavorful and tender. This is a must stop in Madrid. I wish I could have tasted the whole menu.

An unforgettable medieval journey I’m a Madrid native but I have been first time recently to Posada de la Villa, and it was incredible. The moment you step in, you feel like you’ve travelled centuries. It’s a three-floor wooden gem, originally an inn from 1642, now a restaurant that feels like a medieval time capsule I visited in a group of three and we shared a quarter roast lamb — their signature dish —and it was cooked in a traditional wood-fired oven just like they’ve done for ages. Crispy on the outside, tender and juicy inside, pure perfection . We had it with potatoes and salad, and even skipped starter extras—but the complimentary croquetas were a very welcome surprise. After coffee they served some tejas biscuits too, sweet little treats that rounded it all off. For dessert we went with the combo plate. The leche frita and milhoja stole the show soft and rich, just heavenly. And when we left, they gave us a small decorative key thick stamped paper, a handwritten receipt such lovely touches that felt special. Full disclosure: it’s a bit on the pricey side. For tourists it’s no big deal, but as locals we felt it. Still, it’s totally worth it for the experience: embracing old Madrid, both in the space and in the food. The hearty, warming menu is perfect in winter, maybe too heavy for a hot summer day unless you’re very hungry. If you’re looking for one of the most atmospheric, historic eating experiences in Madrid, this place delivers, every detail makes it memorable. Highly recommend!

Bunch of English speakers went here - one of the more senior wait staff spoke more English which made things easier but for communicating anything complex it's good to keep google translate handy for the regular waiters. We got the lamb for two between three but it'd have been better between four! Huge portion! Very tasty though! Salad was nice for starter, the onion soup was nice but originally was given someone elses Garlic soup. Service was good ( pace of the meal was good, not too fast ), place looks great too! Was busy so might be worth booking, although we hardly needed one when it opened for dinner at 2000.

Yelp
Posada de la Villa is truly a world-class restaurant. The food is exceptional; service is perfect and the ambience is classic Spain through and through. Their specialty is roast lamb which is usually reserved for two people but they will make an exception and provide a hearty half order for one. (Still way too much food.) The potato side dish is moist and fit perfectly with the rich leg of lamb. Topping it off was a perfect chocolate truffle and crispy, crunchy cake bread just before getting the check. I'm not sure if this "extra" is typically on the house, but it was a perfect and unexpected treat to end the meal. Outstanding experience in the heart of Madrid

Yelp
Had a great experience eating various tapas and vino. Service is friendly and the place is clean and inviting. Even has an outdoor-ish area in the middle of the hotel/restaurant. Would recommend as a spot to stop while walking around and trying all the restaurants.

Yelp
We came here twice on our Madrid trip - the most recent being on 03.04.24. We sat in the bar area and just had drinks and tapas. On one night, the owner or manager (an older gentleman) was making the rounds with the people, checking on the customers to make sure all was well. The bar service here, too, was top notch - old school and professional. The upstairs dining area is beautiful. The building is old yet well preserved. It is Old World decor at its finest. Hopefully we can squeeze in a real sit down meal sometime. I recommend getting here as soon as it opens - this place is very popular and fills up fast.

Yelp
Out of this world! The service was impeccable. The wait staff was so helpful and nice. The ambiance is great. It's exactly what you want at an old world restaurant in Madrid. And the food! Get the roasted lamb and the flan you will not be disappointed!

Yelp
This is very classic establishment with Castilian decor. Food was OK . Our lamb dishes were below expectations and did not match Asador de Aranda. Service was formal and the clientele more upscale. The ambiance was subdued. I wouldn't discourage a visit as tastes can vary. Check its history and other reviews. Reservation recommended.

Yelp
Fantastic meal in Madrid. First saw this restaurant featured in José Andrés new show. He and his daughters were here and had the 1/4 lamb, their signature dish. It did not disappoint. Simply prepared with salt and water and roasted in a nearly 400 year old wood fired oven, it is sublime. And I say that as someone who doesn't usually care for lamb. The dining room upstairs* has an old world vibe and the busy wait staff attend every table and work around each other seamlessly. We also got the sliced potatoes which are cooked alongside the lamb so they got a nice umami and smokiness to them. We had the asparagus with two sauces which turned out to be 4 enormous chilled white asparagus. They were delicious. I thought we were getting grilled asparagus, but that's not what we ordered and the white asparagus was a pleasant surprise. One sauce was a type of aioli and the other was a bright fresh minced pepper, onion and tomato salsa. They also had a bowl of green olives and a bread basket for the table, as well as 4 complimentary croquettes which were light and fluffy and flavorful, all served before the meal. We finished off the meal with a flan that was probably the best either of us had ever had. Then they bring you 4 little cookies with your check. mercy! We had this meal for lunch and well, that was it for the day. We were so happily full that we didn't need dinner, so, in that respect, it was kind of a deal! It was about 148 euro for what we ordered including a 40 euro bottle of wine, so, not an inexpensive meal, but for what we got and the great service, we think we got a great deal. We would come back here again in a heartbeat if we returned to Madrid. We saw some incredible looking stew with chicken, sausage and garbanzo beans that I would like to try. Someday! *they had a small elevator to the upstairs if you are in need of one.

Yelp
What a gem! Referred by Hilton by Gran Via and they were 100% right. Delicious dinner, wine and dessert. Service was excellent.

Yelp
Thank you Jose Andres! This place was featured on his Madrid CNN show. WOW. Excellent service, excellent food--you must order the lamb. Unlike other yelpers the service was quick. Order the sliced potatoes and the house red wine with your lamb. It will be the meal you compare all other lamb dishes to. Enjoy!

Yelp
This place is fantastic. The food is outstanding. The decor is vintage and comfortable. We had lunch here twice during our stay in Madrid. We sat in the outdoor and loved the breeze and people watching. Special note for the leg of lamb for two people. That will have you write home!!

Rebecca H.

Yelp
This is a popular place so we are only able to get an afternoon lunch reservation. We didn't realize the traditional meat stew need advance reservation but this give us an excuse to visit Madrid the next time. All the food we ordered were great but special shout out to the hake casserole; it is one of the best we had.

Yelp
Excellent, welcoming environment. The house special is roasted lamb. It's crispy and juicy. I highly recommend coming with an appetite because the portions are generous. The wooden chairs in the dining area have the names of famous persons who ate at the restaurant carved into them. I saw Peruvian-Spanish Noble Laureate and former politician Mario Vargas Llosa and the Mexican rock band Maná as names I recognized.

Very tasty food ,amazing ,delicious ,and the waiter Dimity alias ( Mihai )was so knowledgeable regarding the food recommendations so 5 stars, best

Yelp
Great wine and beers. We had a sampling of lamb, smoked hams and other delights. The restaurant is over 100 years old with the oven having dates of 1647. Great little tasting or sit down spot in Madrid.

Yelp
Okay, we did not know what to expect and being a ragtag group of partiers after watching the World Cup, we did not understand the process. The waiter seemed put off by our lack of knowledge but we eventually placed our order. Then, the food came and WOW! The roast lamb, the lamb chops and the steak were beyond compare, may be the best tasting food ever. The asparagus was to die for and it was all so wonderful. A little more compassion for stupid tourists would be appreciated, but if you want some of the finest food in Madrid, this would be the place to go.

Sara W.

Yelp
Well worth the expense. Best ratatouille I've ever had. The lamb they say is for 2 but definitely 3 (or even for if you order a lot of sides/starters). Also enjoyed the asparagus with 2 sauces. Overall fantastic meal!!!! I even went back again within my one week trip.

Yelp
I loved the lamb. It's a must. Others enjoyed the fish. The baked potato was awesome as well. The place had a great feel and is possibly the oldest restaurant around. The service was strange. Food came out at different times. This is the only reason for 4 stars. A staff member walked us back .4 mikes to our hotel. Now that's special. This would not happen in the USA.

David H.

Yelp
Wonderful restaurant. Great service, good food and reasonable prices. Reminds me of an old school steakhouse.

The attention in this place is incredible! They do las make you feel at home. Great typical food

Yelp
Be careful going into this restaurant. We were looking for tapas, but they put us in the dining room. Maybe we should have been more clear? Head waiter was clearly annoyed that we were not ordering a huge meal (at 8pm?). Charged us for bread, olives, water, every little thing. This would have been okay if not for the attitude that came with it.

Yelp
A lovely rustic restaurant, waiter very helpful attends to your needs. Lamb to die for breaks off the bone, starter was mushrooms large advice one portion perfect. Bread fresh made Superb, house wine really good. Lovely experience

Yelp
My wife and I had a very nice dinner here last night. After spending two days in Toledo, we were ready to get back to the action in Madrid and somewhat burned out on the tapas scene, chose Posada de La Villa for a good, quality Spanish dinner. We were immediately greeted by the maitre de and walked upstairs to what is the second of at least 3 levels. In Spain, be prepared to be asked if you have a reservation when walking into any respectable restaurant. While we've never made one and never had a problem, it seems the front of house enjoys toying with you a bit on this matter- if not to make you feel as though you are being done a favor then perhaps as a statement that for this caliber of restaurant, you've gotten lucky:) We were seated in a very nice dining room surrounded by lots of warm brick and wood making for a very comfortable and quaint ambiance. My wife said it reminded her of the higher end Gast Haus's in Germany, but for me it felt more Spanish country, almost with an 18th century feel. The service was excellent, with wine, chosen appetizers of fried onions (the Spaniards do live their fried food, but you can take solace in knowing they're using heart healthy EVOO) and picked cucumbers (of the giant variety) along with the mandatory complimentary aperitif in most Spanish restaurants (and bars for that matter); in this case cheese filled croquets. For our main course, we had the roasted lamb for two which arrives in a steaming hot bowl giving it a very country, even medieval feel. The waiter expertly divvies up the quarter lamb onto each plate, spooning the au jus on to each portion and leaving about a quarter of the meat in the bowl. We complimented the lamb with potatoes, almost scalloped with onions and peppers which were the perfect compliment. One thing to note is that while very, very good, save for chicken, the meat in Spain, be it pork, ox, venison, lamb, etc. has what I would describe as a "gamey" taste to it. Not a bad thing at all, but fot Americans used to mass farmed pork and beef with added chemicals, preservatives, etc. I'm sorry to say that the meat here takes some getting used to. With that said, the lamb was exceptional, and you just know your enjoying something very authentic and special as you look around the dining room to find that you are significantly outnumbered by, a very good thing indeed. We did meet a very nice couple from the US sitting at the table next to us who have just begun their retirement in Spain, and the gentleman too enjoyed the lamb! For desert, we had a small sampler of fried milk cake, milhojas and a cream cheese filled funnel cake all of which went beautifully with a small glass of port from the local area which the waiter kindly refilled half way at no extra charge. If you have the time and are looking for a very nice atmosphere to dine in the heart of Madrid and don't mind spending a little money (with the dollar on the decline, Spain is very, very expensive for everything), I can't recommend this place enough.

Yelp
We found this restaurant in a guide book. It was also my first big meal in Spain. I was not disappointed! The food was delicious and the service was excellent. I also appreciated the rustic decor of the place. Although our Spanish was horrible, the staff was very accomodating and attentive. We had the following: 1. Roasted baby lamb - it comes in a pan and they cut it up in front of you. So very delicious. It seemed like all the other tables around us ordered the lamb too. 2. Merluza (hake stew) - Also tasty. You have to like seafood though since hake is fish. 3. A plate of asparagus - good but nothing out of the ordinary. This is the traditional green asparagus we eat here in the US. We ordered asparagus at 2 other restaurants in Spain and both served the large white kind. 4. Sangria - this was my first taste of real Spanish sangria and it was far sweeter and thicker than the kind I've had in the US. I was a bit surprised at the sweetness. I had sangria at another Spanish restaurant and it was also very sweet. The meal was expensive. I can't remember the exact price but this place isn't for the budget consious. I am giving this place 5 stars because the food was very tasty AND the service was excellent.

Yelp
Conveniently located in la latina (and visible from our hotel) this restaurant serves some of the most delicious roast lamb you will ever taste, served complete with the crispy skin. The bread and olives are also exceptional, and the wine is nice as well.

Yelp
We came a few minutes late to our 9 pm reservation. The Matre 'd was very nice. We started our meal with olives and croquets compliments of the house. We had house wine, house sangria, and beer to drink. We started with soup. Onion soup and garlic and egg soup. Both were good. The next course was garlic shrimp. Very tasty but the shrimps were tiny. The next course was wood fired lamb served with the leg and hoof. It was amazing- the crispy skins melted in the mouth. This is what this restaurant is famous for. In the center of the first floor is a giant wood stove. We had a side of roasted asparagus and also roasted mushrooms- both are great. We ended with the house dessert plate and an Galatians aperitif made from grapes and served in an iced glass-.overall a wonderful meal, with excellent service and a setting that is fit for a special meal in a special city. I highly recommend- we spent three hours dining and savoring our meal. This should be on every visitors list of traditional Spanish cuisine to try in Madrid.

Erin K.

Yelp
Got there early and service was wonderful. They served olives, bread, and croquettes which were amazing. We had roasted lamb, bull tail, mushrooms, asparagus and general vegetables. Best roasted mushrooms I've ever had!

Yelp
I ate here with my family on Christmas day for lunch and it was really excellent. The menu is, well, very traditional Spanish: cochinillo, cordero, solomillo - typical asador-fare. But I have to say that the quality of the food, its preparation and presentation are all really top-notch. The cordero was simply divine. The service was outstanding. It aint cheap, but well worth it in my opinion. The location is a fun, multi-storied building with a bunch of different rooms. This gives the restaurant a smaller, cozy feel despite being rather large. I would have to say this is one of the best, if not the best, traditional Spanish restaurants that I have eaten at in Madrid.

Nya K.

Yelp
Great lamb - the suckling lamb is spectacular. The service is good. The bill at the end is honest - they billed my credit card in Euros rather than the what some other restaurants do in Madrid where they try to push the charge in US$ at a fake exchange rate which will cost you another 6%. Leave the charge in Euro and your credit card will convert it at the office daily rate.
google avatar

Edwin M.

Yelp
Excellent service, the best lamb in Madrid.
google avatar

Amy C.

Yelp
2 words: Roast lamb! It was sooooo good. Probably tied or at least in the top 2 of best lamb I've ever eaten. The other would be the Chinese restaurant that Bush Senior liked in DC (shame on me for not yelping that so I can remember it). Anyways, definitely order the lamb. The service is also very good - they kept my lamb warm because I had to step away for a phone call, and they brought it back when I returned to the table. It's expensive, but worth it.
google avatar

Laura M.

Yelp
Their signature lamb for two was delicious! House red wine fantastic and affordable. The sliced potatoes were perfectly roasted and seasoned. We will be back for more!!!! One note, they charge a mandatory tip but it was worth it. Lamb for 2, one bottle of red wine, asparagus, sliced potatoes and complimentary bread, olives, and dessert $88 euro.
google avatar

Philip G.

Yelp
I have been to this restaurant around 4 times over the last 18 months. Their roast lamb is awesome. I was at a wedding once and when the priest said, " Lamb of God, you...." I thought about this place and the lamb. You have to have the lamb of God. They cook the lamb in an old stone oven. As an entry try the chistorras. Break off a piece of the bread they serve (great by the way) add chistorra and enjoy. The house Riberra del Duero is very good and cheap.

Yelp
This was my second time here in twenty years. This is a classic Spanish place with great food and ambience. I think it is equally popular with locals as well as tourists. Staff was very helpful and friendly.

Yelp
I visited the restaurant last Saturday and really I was impressed , great dishes and excellent service , I ate the roasted lamb that was delicious , for sure on my next visit I will go back again !!!!

Yelp
Best food we had in Spain....found it on our last night, after 10 days.....all other restaurants have the same exact food, and nothing good...but Posada de la Villa was a welcome change. We had the garlic soup with egg....fantastic.....and the grilled mushrooms...out of this world....and then the main attraction of roasted lamb....came straight from the wood burning oven with crispycrackling skin, and very tender! Best lamb I've had!
