Really cute hostel! Very low key, got the impression of a lot of long-timers/remote workers as there wasn’t much of a vibe/people taking part in the activities. Everyone was friendly though so it didn’t matter for us as we were a 3 but wouldn’t recommend particularly for solo travellers. Great facilities, really nice private room. We had the tamales which were great too. Nice ladies who cook your eggs in the morning, lots of places to sit and chill and a 10-15 min walk to the centre. All areas are totally safe. Booked a tour to the gorge through reception which was really good but only in Spanish just FYI! And you have to pay cash to reception before 8.30 on the day of your tour else they cancel your place.

This place is incredible. Such good value. Lovely atmosphere, generous staff, and a really good hostel environment. The breakfast is so good - best bread we've had in Mexico, with eggs freshly made and coffee and fruit and cereal on offer. 100% recommend.

This was our best stay during our 3 weeks low budget travelling trip! The breakfast is so good: fresh bread, fruits, coffee, fresh jam and they make the eggs how you like it! The hostel has a lot of different places where you can sit. Location is also very good! Friendly staff!!

This hostel would get 5 stars if it weren’t for the awful wi-fi (in the rooms) & mould in the bathroom of the triple room with private bathroom. Other than that, it’s a great place to stay. It’s nice that they offer a free breakfast & the hostel is within 10 minutes of the central historical. All in all, a great stay. But could use some upgrades :)

The only place to stay in San Cris! Pros: - Amazing and abundant free breakfast (eggs, toast, fruits, cereals, coffees and tea). The free breakfast brings people together. - Incredibly well equipped kitchen. - Sizeable lockers. - Abundance of extra rugs if cold. - Conveniently placed outlets in dorms. - So many cosy sitting areas. - Incredibly friendly and courteous staff who take pride in there job. - Hostel areas and dorms are cleaned throughly every day. - Hot showers with great pressure. - Tours are available. - Internet works throughout the hostel. - Filtered water available. - 24/7 reception. Cons - Nothing.

One of my favourite hostel experiences not just in Mexico but anywhere. A lot of this is down to the staff, who are very hardworking but also friendly and always smiling, and it seems like they're happy to be working there which makes a huge difference! The hostel is ideal for travelers who want to socialize in a relaxed manner. It's not too big and it's not a party hostel, so you have a nice social vibe but relaxed and without the noise, and it's easy to meet people to go on tours together or go out for some drinks. It's also a nice property for a lazy day in as it has some nice trees and plants, regularly visited by hummingbirds, and cozy covered spaces in which to relax. The hostel is also very clean, as the staff clean the rooms and bathrooms every single day. There's a good breakfast every morning of eggs (cooked to your liking), bread, delicious homemade jam, fruit and coffee. I had a private room so I can't comment on the dorms, but all in all, this hostel was pretty much perfect - Raul con "H" :)

Posada del Abuelito is a cozy hostel located in the center of San Cristobal with private rooms that welcomes single as well as families from around the world. The hostel is kept clean with a full time cleaning crew. The free big breakfast of cereal, toast, eggs made to order, coffee, and fresh fruits is a great way to start the day. Best of all is Alexander, the attentive on site manager who goes above and beyond to make your stay comfortable and stress free Bring a sweater or jacket as the temp drops at nights in San Cristobal.
