It was a rough night here. Fan was broken and making a loud noise. Walls are paper thin. 6am or so a staff member was making so much noise I was in disbelief. Additional to the cleaning and dragging furniture they were playing music and singing. What a nightmares There are also people making lots of noise until 12-1am. The showers are not very clean and the floor stays wet. I would avoid this place. I did appreciate the breakfast included for free.

We had a good experience with a private room and shared bathroom. The rooms and bathroom are old, but they clean them regularly. Location is very good, everything in walking distance. In the morning, shower could be cold at the end but that makes sense since everyone would be showering. Always hot shower in the evening.

Do not book directly with Posada Hotel Don Mario. I booked a reservation for 6 nights at the fully reimburseable rate and paid in full. The receipt which came back to me the same day showed I paid for one night and that this is not reimbursable. When I tried to make a change through both email and phone call I was asked to send my receipt to show this. I received no response. I decided to cancel in full as I did not want to ruin my vacation by arguing that I had already paid. I have to challenge the charge on my VISA card as the hotel is trying to now say that I am only due reimbursement for the one night shown on my incorrect receipt. This is taking me hours providing all my documentation. Do not subject yourself to this.

I stayed here last summer and had a pleasant, problem-free stay. So when I needed to return to Oaxaca, I had no hesitation in rebooking it. ||Maybe the management changed, but it’s not at all the same. When I arrived, there was a kerfuffle with my reservation. No biggee, we worked it out. In the morning, where previously they had offered a simple selection of toast and cold cereals, they now included a cooked breakfast. The waitress was surprisingly rude, telling us that we either eat breakfast now or forget it. It was 830 am. When it came, it was literally inedible—quite an accomplishment in Oaxaca! The so-called enfrijoladas consisted of two tortillas with runny beans poured over them. We bailed. |That evening (after the earthquake) the neighborhood disco cranked it up. Impossible to sleep. I went to the reception desk and there was NO ONE THERE!|The following day, I mentioned to the clerk that the housekeepers had forgotten to provide the little bottles of water in our room. He informed me that water was provided on the first night only, and that I would have to buy some. I have NEVER been in a Mexican hotel that didn’t somehow provide water for their guests. This is just being ‘codo’(cheap). |This morning we had no water at all. They explained that they were waiting for the water truck —in other words they had neglected to keep their tank full, despite having relatively few guests. ||At that point, I blew off my last night and found a better hotel at a better price. I shall mot be returning

Really enjoyed a 3 night stay here. The staff were helpful and patient as we were a family of 5 with a 2 year old baby. Staff were kind enough to allow us to keep our bags in the office space before and after checking in/out. The patio and balconies were so pretty and a highlight of my stay in Oaxaca. Many of the negative reviews are people who have not realised not all the rooms have shared bathrooms. The only room for improvement was the shower in room 14 as the water flow was very low and water came out quite slow. The sink was a bit splashy too. But a lovely stay other than that for the price! Great location and very comfy beds. Gracias por recibirnos!

DO NOT BOOK!! The most rude staff I’ve ever met.. only the younger guy was nice. We had a nightbus the night before so we barely had any sleep. We arrived earlier, the room was READY but they refused to let us in sooner than 1pm. All we wanted was to take a nap and get some sleep we missed the night before. The sanitation is very poor, shower barely works and it doesn’t match the pictures. Please avoid! Wish I had read the bad reviews before booking

If you’re looking for an inexpensive and convenient place to stay and are away most of the day, it’s good. If you’re expecting hairdryers and air conditioning, not for you. The rooms are cleaned daily, and have a combination heater/fan, and a full breakfast is included every day. Not a very quiet or private place, the windows on some rooms open on the common area. The location is excellent for access to museums, markets and parks. You get the full experience of Mexico here.

This is an intimate, welcoming and affordable place to stay in Oaxaca. The rooms are clean, comfortable, and cozy. There is a public balcony, a third floor terrace in addition to a lovely breakfast area. The staff is friendly, helpful and patient with non-native Spanish speakers. In addition, many of the staff speak English and can give directions and assistance in either language. The breakfasts are fantastic -- fresh, different every day, with juice, protein, coffee or tea and fresh fruit, tortillas and bread with excellent home made jam. The hotel itself is a 10 minute walk on well-lit streets to the Zocolo. There is wifi. The hotel staff can arrange competitively priced tours of the area. The owner is a wonderful woman who is on-site all day and well into the evening. She works with her staff, serving breakfast, welcoming guests, offering advice about the area, and good conversation. Posada Don Mario is mi casa in Oaxaca.
