Booked online prior to taking my first trip to Puerto Rico. Book at least one month before your arrival. Stayed in mixed dorm the first night there. As a Senior Solo Traveler is was a very good experience being with younger persons from all over, but mostly from the States. The next two nights I had booked an Extreme Private which had a single bed and air-conditioner window unit. All bathrooms are shared, but no problem. The price for both the mixed dorm and the Extreme Private are inexpensive. This place is clean and safe. The location is good. Take the free trolley right out front. Great balcony. The staff and owner/ manager persons are the best. You will be fortunate if you get to stay here. If I ever get to go back to Old San Juan I will book here before I book my flight. My three nights here were the best introduction I could have had to Old San Juan. “Try to book the mixed dorm as first choice then go from there. The Extreme Private is, also, a good deal. Bring groceries with you unless you plan to eat every meal out.”

The location and terrace is the best of this place. Everything else is either broken or close to malfunction. Elevator is an adventure and the cleanliness is low level. The bed is really hard and uncomfortable and small for 2 people, air condition has a bad smell and hardly cools the room, the shared bathrooms smells like urine. The lady at the front desk though was nice, though it did not change the bad experience. For a youth hostel it is overpriced with those things.

I didn't know it was a religious hostel type place. I was in need of a quick and cheap place and went to Priceline to book and ended up here. You should know that you might get a shared room with multiple beds, a central bathroom/shower, and central living area that has a kitchen with a balcony. The view from the balcony is quite nice. The place was clean. You should bring your own towels and toiletries because it is not offered. A pleasant experience overall.

This was my very first hostel and it was a great experience. The hostel was a little difficult to find and finding parking with a rental car there was almost impossible. But everything is within walking distance so the car I rented was a waste of money, plus keeping it in the parking garage. It was very clean and friendly. When I first checked in it was difficult to find someone but I found them eventually. The guy downstairs that works the bar has their direct phone number so he helped me. NO CASH they say. The rooms are air conditioned, everywhere else in the hostel is like 90 degrees. The view was amazing and I felt very safe. Especially as a young female traveling alone. Make sure to book in advance because I was turned away for one of the nights I stayed because I didn't book ahead and was forced to find a hotel. And maybe pack a blanket because the one thin sheet they provided was uncomforatable. There was hot water, a refrigerator and a vending machine. Overall a very nice hostel and I had a wonderful time.

For a hostel it's pretty good. Bring some shoes. If you don't mind not having a private bathroom it's a good place. Old San Juan is a good place to start your Puerto Rico adventure. Plus, they provide some tours. AC is great! And customer service is surprisingly good for a hostel. And you will get a lot father in Puerto Rico if you speak Spanish.

20$ for a bed in the dorm in the middle of old San Juan. That's a great price. The dorm was big with a lot of space. As well it was clean and the staff friendly and helpful. As it was spring break there were many spring break kids around and not all of them knew how to behave in a hostel...

Google
Right in the heart of San Juan with easy access to everything. The room fit out needs and the shared bathrooms were okay. AC in room. Thankfully there was a very small elevator to reach the 6th floor. No parking anywhere close so we had to walk roughly 5 blocks. I suggest paying to park in one of the structures to avoid a $250 parking ticket (as we got when we parked in an area that was missing the painted curb). Otherwise got a good night of sleep!

Google
Location of this hostel is fantastic, heart of old San Juan. Right next to forts San christobal and walking distance to El Morro. Rooms are decent. 2 things to improve here. One problem was that the WiFi in the hostel is accessible only in the concierge area and not the rooms. Second, the hostel is on the 5th - 6th floors and the lift doesn't really work every single time. In general, decent place to stay.

Yelp
The hostelworld posting said that there was parking. By this they meant that there was parking nearby that you had to pay for. "We have parking"=parking is available for free or low cost NOT there is parking nearby that say they are $10 for 24 hours but charge you $6 more when you leave. Hostelworld has since been updated it seems... When I arrived and inquired about the parking the lady who checked me in said that they have had a few people say that they were confused about the parking bit but "eh...mmm..I'm not sure where parking is...mmm..mmm....mmmm..the buidling with the clock? I'm not sure how much it is, or if it's overnight". Staff need to be better trained. Clean. Has AC that no one can touch, so hopefully you won't be too cold or too hot (this is mentioned on hostelworld though). Nice view. Good location.

Yelp
I found this place strolling down for available affordable options for a one night stay since I am a local and just wanted to do something different. I got there and was welcomed by a kind, blond girl and she made sure that I felt the place like if I was home. The place it's a bit outdated but that is the whole point of it. Even though it looks outdated it went right on point for what I needed--a place to be safe and rest. Common areas were clean and looked good, bathrooms were decent and clean, and oh my gosh, that view! That balcony view from that 6th floor I stayed was marvelous. I could see from the place up from the Plaza Colón to the Cruise port and beyond! It is very quiet, comfortable for basic needs and definitely covers everything one needs to survive an "alone" night. For the price, honestly I can't ask for more because they already offered me much more than what I was expecting for the price. Loved it and will definitely recommend it and if I can stay again!

Yelp
I picked Posada San Francisco because of location and lack of kids. There are no adults-only resorts on Puerto Rico, and I figured a hostel was my best bet. And it turned out to be a great idea. The location is perfect. On the outer edge of Old San Juan (OSJ) you are only minutes away from anything in the area but out of the huge tourist crush from the other end of town. When looking at a map of Old San Juan you will think it's bigger than it is. To walk from the Posada to El Morro on the opposite tip of OSJ might take 15-20 minutes at a leisurely pace. I booked the standard double bed private shared room. It cost me $58 per night because I had to pay for 2 people instead of just myself. The single supplement sucks, but it's still inexpensive. The room was clean, clean, clean. And the satellite TV and air conditioning worked. I had to share bathrooms but one was always available when I needed it and they were always relatively clean if not just clean. I appreciated that the other guests during my stay were not slobs. The women working the desk and the one man I saw regularly were always polite and friendly. No issues with service. I used the washer and dryer while I was there, but I got up early to do it so there was no wait. And they are both in good condition - either new or very well-kept. All in all, my four night stay cost me $252 which includes taxes and online processing fees. That amount would have gotten me one night at a resort or hotel. For the price and location, Posada San Francisco really can't be beat, and I would stay here again. Tip: Because I stayed on the 6th floor, I didn't interact much with the other guests. If you're on the 4th floor with the dorms, you'll meet more people. Tip 2: They rent bikes for cheap. Don't forget that. I did.

Yelp
Perfect location for safe area of Old San Juan. It's right in front of a trolly stop (free around OSJ) and across from Plaza Colon. Lots of restaurants and tourist shops around to venture towards and located beside the fort. It's a great location, and with another gal pal - I felt safe walking the streets around the area even in the evenings. For $34/night including taxes and fees, it's totally worth the humble hostel environment. Great balcony views, huge kitchen on 5th floor, small fridge in room, flat screen tv and personal AC unit. Rooms open with key cards and on my floor (6th) there were three bathrooms to share on the hall. Bathrooms are not dorm style where multiple ppl are in them but single bathrooms where you close the door and lock behind you. One has a shower stall and the other an actual tub. I Never had to fight for the bathroom or wait. I saw a cleaning lady everyday and the bathrooms were clean but bring your own toiletries and even a hand towel to dry off. You do get a bath towel for each person in the room. Certainly not bad at all ...

Yelp
Posada San Francisco is located in a wonderful spot in Old San Juan! There is a wonderful terrace right out the front door (Plaza de Colon). It is a hot spot for tourist, as it just a couple streets up from the cruise ship port. The hostel is located right next to a food court and bar - which always seemed to be open, no matter what time we walked by it. The hostel blends in with the rest of the the buildings, but the hostel is labelled with a sign above the door. You may have to look hard at first, since it doesn't have a massive sign that you may be use to looking for. When you first enter you will appreciate the art work on the ceiling in the main lobby of the building. It is wonderful. You then have the option of taking the stairs or the elevator. I believe the hostel was on the top two levels (5 and 6). We always took the elevator, but its from the 30's, so it's not what you're use to - plus I read it's not always operational - so keep in mind you may have to take the stairs each and every day you are there, Check in was very simple. The staff was friendly and helpful. They have laundry onsite (1 washer and 1 drier - at least in the section we stayed) and you can buy laundry pots at the front desk for 50 cents a pod. I stayed in a private room. It was at the end of the hall, so it was extra quiet and we had a bathroom right next door. The doors do not have attached bathrooms, but it felt like it did as we only had to wait for the bathroom on one occasion during our 4 night stay. (We stayed on the 6th floor). Our room was very plain, but nice. Had a bed (it was ok - not overly comfy), mirror, tv, a/c, chair, mini-fridge and large closet. Some people were weirded out by the cross in each room, but it never bothered me (maybe cuz I grew up with religious parents). The a/c was strong and always worked. Never had any issues! On the 5th floor is where the communal kitchen was. The kitchen is large and spacious. It had everything we needed to cook with, when we did use it. Having a mini-fridge in our room may have accounted for this, but the fridges in the kitchen were locked. I'm not sure if you needed a key to use them (say if you were staying in a dorm style room and you had no individual fridge) or if they were locked for staff only. Not sure. The views from either the 5th or 6th floor are top notch. It was such a wonderful spot!! Want to see our exact room? Check out the lobby for yourself? See what view I am talking about? All this can be found on my YouTube page at "Josh the Travel Guy". Just look it up and check out the video(s) where you can see a visual representation of this review!!

Yelp
I really liked staying here when we were in Puerto Rico. I'm a firm believer that hostels are the way to go, and this one was really nice. It was somewhat hard to find since it's not clearly marked, but once we were there we really liked it. We got a private room and it was very clean, and we were thankful for the mini-fridge and AC. We spent a couple of evenings hanging out on the balcony and watching the cruise ships coming in and the happenings in the park. The location is excellent - it's right in the middle of old San Juan, right next to one of the forts, across from a park, and not far from drug stores, grocery stores, restaurants etc. If you stay here I recommend eating at Caficultura which is right next door.

Yelp
(reviewed on trip advisor as well because I loved this place so much) If you like luxury, please do not waste your time here. This is a bare bones place to stay. That in mind I LOVED this place. I met the owners of the hostel when they were passing out breakfast. It is family owned, run and cared for. This hostel is PRIME location for everything! Let me list off things that are a need to know before you book: 1) this is an old building, there are stairs that are tall, narrow and HOT , there is an elevator that has a gate that literally had my boyfriend and I running out and into the elevator as soon as possible because it slams and scares us, also elevator is HOT and sometimes might not work. If you need an elevator all the time or have trouble walking please do not book here. It will be unpleasant for you and the owners are sweet people who deserve the most possitive reviews possible 2) private rooms are small and bare bones. you have a bed with two pillows and a sheet. You have a small fridge, an AC and a TV and maybe a closet. That's it. Good luck getting any view. But you know what, I'm only there to sleep and shower. I want to spend my money having fun in PR and on gifts for people back home, not a fancy room. My house is plenty fancy for me thank you. I'm for adventure. 3) you have a shared kitchen (MEGA BONUS) you can cook your own food if you don't feeling like dropping big money three times a day and that's a big money saver! Grocery store not too far and there is a CVS and Walgreens about a 10-minute walk (VERY SAFE) to get ins and outs you may need. 4) no parking, but Dona Fela parking is about a 5-minute walk and is CHEAP! Cash only though so keep that in mind. 5) Free breakfast now offered and it is just a light little something but the owner usually comes with her daughter or employee to help prepare it for you. Never had issues with shared bathrooms. We went in down season so keep that in mind. Old San Juan has character, charm and all the best restaurants. Locals go there all the time and is the place to be for a real Puerto Rican vibe in a safe part of the island. there are cops patrolling all the time not because its dangerous but just because they want to keep it safe. I never, not once felt in danger. Please keep in mind "La Perla" (the pearl) is not too far from old san juan and is sketch as heck STAY AWAY FROM THERE! But other than that Old San Juan is the place to go, and this Hostel gives you the most bang for your buck. I will stay back here in a heart beat!!!

Yelp
Does anyone have an post-Hurricane Maria info on PSF? I lived there for three months while I was volunteering around Puerto Rico and haven't been able to get in touch with anyone.

Yelp
I booked this place through Airbnb and I was a little concerned that it was too good to be true. Great location in Old San Juan, stylish inside and out - $52 a night? It was even better in person. Cristiane was very helpful and easy to reach. We were able to find parking without a hassle, as it is on the edge of OSJ. Totally safe, clean, cute, air conditioned rooms. Common area very nice, nice kitchen, great balcony with amazing view. Unreal value. We paid a lot more for not as great places in Condado, Boqueron, and El Yunque. Apparently they have renovated the 4th floor as a hostel with shared rooms for like $25 a night. Couldn't recommend this place more.

Yelp
Nice hostel in Old San Juan. I loved staying on a higher floor and having a beautiful view of Plaza Colon and the castillo to my left. I stayed in a 4 person bunk and found the room to have a lot of space for a hostel. The bottom and top bunk definitely had a lot of space between the two so that the person on the bottom could easily sit up and the person on the top had some privacy. I thought that the A/C was strong in my room and got the job done in that strong heat. I arrived at night and found the night manager to be a little spacey (she was upset that I was on the wrong floor to check in--I was just following the directions that were sent to me) but the owners during the day were friendly and were able to see that I had booked for 5 nights but because of the online system was in different rooms and found a way to keep me in the same room for all 5 nights. Would definitely stay here again.

Yelp
Your review helps others learn about great local businesses. Please don't review this business if you received a freebie for writing this review, or if you're connected in any way to the owner or employees.I made a reservation for a private room via Hostelworld. Unfortunately the Posada cancelled my reservation when I was in the air. My flight arrived at 5 am. I took the bus and was at the location by 6 am. They don't have anyone at reception until 9:30 am as posted. So I had to wait to drop off my bags which made for a long day since I travelled all night. When 9:30 am rolled around, I tried to check in. They told me I didn't have a reservation. I showed them the reservation email. They said it must have been cancelled by Hostelworld. It took over 30 minutes to check in and they weren't friendly at all. Later that day, I received an email from Hostelworld saying the Posada cancelled my reservation. Luckily, at least I was able to check in to a shared room. A little disappointing since I wanted a private. The Posada is pretty and in a good location. The facility was nice. The beds were hard as a rock and stained. There was 2 of us that rented dorm beds and they only gave us one key. We were constantly having to find the other one to leave or get back in since you can't access any of the common areas or rooms without a key. Overall decent experience. They could definitely improve a few things.

Yelp
Looking at the reviews, location, and price, this place seems too good to be true. It's right in the middle of Old San Juan, costs under $60/night for a private room, and has a great view. Yes, it's on the fourth through sixth floors of an old building, but that's why it has such a great view from the multiple balconies. My old college roommate and I had a great time meeting fellow travelers of all ages and just hanging out in the open air. The vibe really can't be beat. As for the rooms, there are inexpensive hostel accommodations and slightly more expensive rooms. Entry is with modern hotel key cards and two or three doors to pass through before getting there, so it's plenty secure. The room is entirely no frills, but it has a/c and a mini fridge plus a chair or two, which is really all I needed. They have queen beds and rooms with two single beds. Sheets are clean, floors are clean, and mattresses are firm. I slept well apart from the noise of the air conditioning. Next time I'm in San Juan I'll be back here.

Yelp
Great location right by many restaurants, stores and entertainment. Rooms, restrooms and common areas are clean. A bit outdated but that's the whole point, Old San Juan. Definitely warm and welcoming. Elevator might not work sometimes but stairs are a great workout! I would definitely come back here next time!

Yelp
The AC was kickass (in the single room at least), met great people, reasonably clean. Had a great time! And awesome location!
google avatar

Yelp
Cheap and in a great location. The A/C is just in the rooms which isn't unusual but the bathrooms are sweltering. Also, the light outside my room was way bright and shone through the window above the door. Still can't knock the price/location!

Yelp
The best deal for a room in Old San Juan. Although not an aesthetically appealing room, it provided a place to store my luggage, sleep, and shower. There's no WiFi in the bedrooms, but there is WiFi in the common rooms. - Not luxurious whatsoever - ~$30-$35/night for a single private room- includes a mini-refrigerator, bed, air-conditioning - +$5.00 for late check-in after 9pm - I stayed at the hostel at the beginning of August, so I don't believe there were many people staying in the hostel. With that being said, I never really encountered problems using the shared bathrooms - Gorgeous views from the 6th floor (this is also where the reception desk is located) - They allow luggage storage until 5pm on the day of check-out, and check-out is strictly enforced at 11am - There were broken wall tiles, and exposed plumbing pipes in my room, which made it seem dangerous and probably a huge violation of building code, but how can I complain at ~$30-$35 per night? - Centrally-located to all of the major tourist sites in Old San Juan I would recommend this hostel to all of my friends who are traveling on a budget.

Yelp
I loved this hostel! It has amazing views from the balcony on floors 5 and 6. My bf and I stayed in Old San Juan for three nights and one night we had a few drinks and chilled out on the balcony overlooking the ocean/port/and city. The rooms had everything we needed. We stayed in a private and it came with a bed, TV, small closet, mini fridge, chair, mirror and air conditioner. It was all we needed. The staff was super friendly and we did get a chance to meet people. A couple things to note: You will have to climb six flights of stairs and it is a bit hard to find but once you do it is so WORTH IT! Probably one of my favorite hostels I have ever stayed in!

Yelp
This place is actually too good To be true. But it is. The amount you pay for such a spectacular view and location is insane. I would recommend this for everyone! Staff is incredible. They refunded me my last night within just a 12 hour window when my flight changed. The only complaint I have is that the vibe is much different than other hostels--people generally keep to themselves. Large groups may interact with each other, but not necessarily with other travelers. The elevator is an experience!

Yelp
5 stars for the location!!!... Is perfect! Close to everything... Walking distances 5 stars for the personnel... Very friendly and polite... They check us in earlier, around 12.30pm, with no charge... 5 stars for the view... From the balcony of the common areas you can see Plaza Colón, San Juan Cruise Port and the south of Old San Juan 3-4 stars for the rooms... Basic room is really basic, but for the small price to be close to everything is worthed... If you are used with fancy hotels definitely this not the place for you 2-3 stars for the parking... Is almost impossible to get parking on the street... The closest and the cheapest place from the hostel is the parking lot were is the clock tower... Around of $0.80 per hour...

Yelp
As a HOSTEL, this place deserves 4-5 stars. As a hotel or guesthouse I give it 3 Large rooms, "queen" is really a twin/double, but the bed is more comfortable than I expected. Lots of shared bathrooms in relation to the rooms but hot water and pressure is an issue. Kitchen is spectacular, shared balcony views are great and location is great. I would definitely stay here again. Great value compared to the rest of Old San Juan.

Yelp
I only stayed here for a couple of nights while I was in SJ for an academic conference. The great part of the hostel is that it is centrally located. I loved being so close to the hottest sights in the city, all within walking distance. The place was clean, and I enjoyed meeting other travellers here. On the down side, it is on the top floor of a tall building and the entire time I was there the elevator was out. So in addition to walking a lot (as most tourists do), I also had to hike up 7 flights of stairs to get to my room. The staff also didn't seem to know much about the city. The bathrooms were difficult to get into - only two per floor, and you had to have a key to each floor, but they only gave you a key to the floor that your room was on. At the end of the day, I would not recommend this place to someone travelling to PR unless there was nothing else available in the price range in OSJ.

Yelp
I would like to provide you with a balanced review of Posada San Francisco. To start, here are some of the great things about Posada San Francisco: - The location: right in the heart of Old San Juan. Walkable to so many restaurants, bars, and both forts. The beaches are a bit more of a walk, but doable if you are willing. There are also lots of spots to hop on a free trolley or 75 cent bus. - The cleanliness: I felt the entire hostel was clean - including the bathrooms and common areas. I really liked the kitchens. They were well stocked with the basics (pots, pans, utensils, plates) and provided a big, open area in which to cook. There was lots of seating as well, inside and on the balconies. - The price: In my opinion and experience staying in hostels, the price is mstly fair. Also, the location makes the price more worth it because you could easily not rent a car (as we did) and still have an enjoyable and fun stay. I still recommending renting a car if you plan on exploring other parts of the island because taxis are very expensive. - The atmosphere: The hostel is very historic and has a great vibe and ambiance about it. We loved the balconies that looked out over the water. Very lovely overall. Unfortunately, we experienced some poor customer service at Posada San Francisco. It was prompted by a misunderstanding on our part, and escalated as we tried to understand and work out a solution. Here is the essential outline: - Before we came to Puerto Rico, we had to change our reservation due to some life events, as aforementioned. After the change, I did not receive a confirmation of my changes (in the confirmation format that I had seen before). I suppose I should have asked for one, but I felt that was there responsibility and I felt that the email chain that I had going confirmed our reservation. This included having to switch rooms during one night of our trip. - Due to the misunderstanding, there was a discrepancy about when we would have to change rooms. We did not mind having to change rooms and expressed that we understood their busyness. However - we did not know about one of the room changes so when we were an hour away on a beach and received a phone call telling us we had to get our stuff out of our room, we were very distressed to leave 4 hours sooner than we planned. Also, when we tried to explain our misunderstanding, we were met with aggression and unprofessional behavior. - The woman who we emailed with prior to arriving and over the phone during the incident acted rude and disrespectful toward us. She did not give us the chance to explain how we understood the situation at all. She spoke over us, interrupted us, and told us "well it's just all there in black and white." - Furthermore, when we asked if our deposit could be applied toward the rooms, she told us that we lost our deposit when we changed our reservation. - **NO WHERE IN THE HOSTELS TERMS AND CONDITIONS, HOSTELWORLD.COMs TERMS AND CONDITIONS, OR ON THE RESERVATION PAGE FOR POSADA SAN FRANCISCO ON HOSTELWORLD.COM DOES IT SAY YOU LOOSE YOUR DEPOSIT IF YOU CHANGE YOUR RESERVATION** - It says if you cancel, then you loose it, but the parameters of what constitutes as canceling are not explained. - Basically, we ended up having to pay a lot more for two more nights, having to switch rooms twice instead of once. - There was a final incident with the owner that I feel needs to be shared. While checking into our last room of our stay (the third check in we had to make), we encountered the owner. He was visibly angry and the tone of voice used toward us with loud and aggressive. We were told things like "you screwed up" and "we should be able to talk about these things like adults not little children." This all occurring in the front desk area of the hostel. When my husband asked the owner to stop blaming everything on me, the owner yelled, "Don't tell me to shut up!" (which my husband did not say). - All of this and NOT ONCE did ANYONE say that they were sorry for the miscommunication; sorry for the way they spoke, or made any effort to accommodate us in any way. - We understand that hostels and hotels are different, but customer service like this is unacceptable no matter what the format. We share all this not to deter anyone from staying at the hostel. There are so many lovely things about it and I cannot imagine that this happens frequently. I am not saying that we were 100% right, but I am not saying that they were not either. What I want to share is how this hostel handled a tough situation - which, in my opinion, is telling about the values of an establishment. It is unfortunate that a simple misunderstanding was met with aggression, unprofessional speak, and overall disrespect. On principal, we will not patron Posada San Francisco again. If you choose too, be sure you read all the fine print, get everything in writing, and make sure you and them both fully understand the cost and length of your stay. Stayed March 2015

Yelp
Out of all the hostels I've been in, and I've been to plenty, this is BY FAR the best. As the saying goes, you get what you pay for. While this was a tad bit pricier than most other hostels I've patronized, it was well worth it and I enjoyed my stay. The staff was friendly and answered my questions. I kinda wish the front desk people were a bit more cheerful and smiled more, but other than that it was a great experience and highly recommend this hostel to anything else out there. The location was ideal as it was right near restaurants and walking distance to the bus stop.

Yelp
If you're looking for a cheap, friendly environment with a great view and location, this is the place to go. I met the coolest and friendliest people here. The beds are not the best, but what do you expect from a hostel? Anyways, I loved it and hopefully, I'll be back :)

Yelp
There's a reason this place has an almost 5 star rating on Yelp. Forget your idea of hostels and cheap hotels as bug infested, dirty, and gross looking - Posada is clean, friendly, in a pretty building, and in a perfect location. That last point will probably be the most important for backpackers and other low budget travelers - Posada is in Old San Juan, on Calle San Francisco, the very heart of the old city. It's within walking distance of all the major attractions and all the best restaurants and bars. Posada is also clean and bug free. I've heard there are some big cockroaches in the Caribbean, but I didn't see any here. The proprietors are friendly - it's a mom and daughter operation, and both are helpful and available if you've got questions about the city or the accommodations. Then of course there's the price. If you're willing to stay in a dormitory with strangers, $19 a night. A private room? $25 a night. A double private room? $44 ($22 per person). You won't find much better prices anywhere else in the USA. All the rooms include linens and air conditioning, and there is wireless Internet available in the commons room on each floor. The commons rooms are not air conditioned, but they do have lovely balconies that overlook the plaza. Renting a private room in Posada gives you almost all the luxuries of a hotel at a tenth the price while also putting you right in the heart of Old San Juan. This is a good option not just for backpackers but for anyone who wants to see the old city on a budget.

Yelp
I had an awesome first-time hostel experience. During my stay, I met a lot of friendly people from around the world. Friendly host -- Thank you, Amy for accommodating me last minute :). Expect to get mosquito bites here, especially out in the balcony. Water pressure in the bathrooms definitely need improvement. Conveniently located to bars, shops, restaurants...etc. I never had a problem finding a parking spot in Old San Juan.

Yelp
Definitely a good choice for a hostel in Old San Juan. They do take credit cards, which I found rare in PR. The elevator is a little scary and it's a lot of stairs to climb, but it's cheap and centrally located. I checked in at 8:30pm and despite having told them I was going to be arriving at that time, the gate was locked and I had to call and wait 15 minutes outside for someone to come unlock it. A/C worked like a dream, but the beds were a little weird - covered in the kind of plastic you see on kids' beds for bed-wetting problems... I stayed in a 4-bed dorm, which I had to myself. It was very small but had a huge walk in closet for some reason? The bathrooms were well-kept. Parking at the nearby Dona Fela parking garage was only $8 for ~16 hours. I'd stay here again if I returned to PR.

Yelp
This was the most amazing hostel I have ever stayed in. Partly because I was not expect anything great after the terrible hostels with no electricity in other parts of PR. The bf and I got the most beautiful air conditioned room (which we only had one night to stay in sadly). It had a flat screen TV, beautifully made bed with the room cleaned immaculately. Something about the fluorescent white sheets and black framing on the bed and the dim lighting was just welcoming to rest on during a hectic trip. It truly relaxed me. The staff took care of every detail. There was this beautiful teenage girl (dont get any ideas) who would tend to the place after hours and was so helpful with everything from shampoo to luggage! It made my stay a truly luxurious experience considering they are a hostel. There was a beautiful foyer with elements of spanish colonial architecture and a balcony and spacious common areas to chill out, beautiful black metal tables for eating dinner (which we couldnt use but a great way to save money since they do have a kitchen as well) and elevators that made it super convenient for luggage. The owners told us about parking and where to get everything we need. I feel lucky to have found this place! Overall, words cannot really describe how much i loved this place! Let's just say I will be going back to Puerto Rico just for this hostel! Last time, I focused on the beaches and islands in the east but next time I will spend more time in old san juan (one night is NOT enough!). This is a gorgeous hostel - I recommend that you spend your money here!

Yelp
This is a steal if you want a great location in Old San Juan. Gorgeous views from 4 shared balconies. Spotless everywhere and big shared spaces inc a kitchen. The owners were so welcoming! They put fresh flowers and a bottle of wine in our room when I mentioned it was our honeymoon. Me gusta! You share bathrooms as in a pensione in Southern Europe, but a really great price and friendly atmosphere.

Yelp
This place, to me, is nearly luxurious. I mean, for hostel, this place really is. It has a very nice interior. It has everything: two "sets" of kitchens, two full bathrooms, balconies, living rooms, air conditioning in every room, and a very friendly service! All at a reasonably price. The view from 5th floor balcony was stunning! It's right located in the heart of Old San Juan. The lady who works there, she is very nice! I wish I knew her name; but if you met her, you will know who I'm talking about. If you need anything, she will gladly help you. You won't be disappointed. This place made my trip very pleasant.

Yelp
Solid place to stay in OSJ due to the location and price. We stayed in a basic double room with a comfy bed, closet, fridge, and a/c for about $80/nt. The bathrooms and common areas are clean and well furnished and have wifi. The views from the balconies can't be beat. Parking was found on the streets nearby so look before you pay to park. Friendly staff and well run operation. My only complaints are that their washing machine was broken and we needed to do a quick load of laundry and the showers are hit or miss with water pressure and hot water.

Yelp
This is a great place for the budget traveler to stay in San Juan! Clean accomodations, central location, great views, and reasonable price. I stayed here 3 nights and rented a single private room at $35/night. The room was basic - twin bed, closet, mini fridge, air conditioning, and a small window. Add a cross on the wall, and definitely felt like a monastery. The location is perfect! Most San Juan tourist attractions (save the beaches and Condado) are within walking distance. Restaurants, a supermarket, Walgreens pharmacy, and the bus depot are also within walking distance. And the Old San Juan location with historic architecture does make it feel like a traditional Spanish settlement. One thing really cool about this hostel is the view. Rooms are on floors 4, 5, and 6, and each level has a common area/patio that looks over Old San Juan and the port. A great place to relax and chat with friends or read a book. Other thoughts - During my stay the hostel was pretty quiet, no concerns about noise. The free Wifi Internet access is solid. Kitchens are available to cook basic meals. Breakfast is not included, but there are affordable dining options in walking distance. Streets around the hostel are safe at night, and foot police patrols add to the feeling. It's important to know their office is only open 8 AM - 12 PM and 1 PM - 5 PM (or thereabouts, check for certain). Arriving after hours you must call to be let in. I didn't have much interaction with the staff, but they seemed friendly. Overall, this is a great budget lodging choice for adults in San Juan! I've stayed in a good number of hostels, and this place ranks near the top. --------------------------------- A couple (comparatively small) improvement areas: 1) One simple thing they should improve is external signage. There's no sign at the entry and I think the place is relatively new, so a couple cab drivers during my stay had a little difficulty finding it. 2) Also at the entrance, they could use a buzzer or intercom. I arrived after hours and unfortunately my cell phone didn't work, so I had to borrow the next door bartender's to reach hostel staff. I do hope the signage/after hours communication items get fixed. Both are really easy and arriving at late 11:30 PM, I would have appreciated getting to bed instead of 20-30 minutes finding the hostel, figuring out how to get in, and waiting for staff to arrive.

Yelp
I personally love this hostel. It is centrally located in OSJ, easy walking distance to groceries, tourist sites, bus stop, etc. Extremely affordable and books up quickly. Rooms are cleaned daily, several kitchens to cook in, two bathrooms on each floor so you don't have to wait. I would totally recommend.

Yelp
Stayed here for 6 nights, and we had a fantastic time. Our expectations coming in were low, but this place exceeded them in every way. The rooms were small, but who needs a big room anyway when you have all of old san juan within walking distance to explore. The best part about this place, other than the great location, was the kitchen. They have two full kitchens on different floors with stoves, sinks, pots and pans, dishes, and cutlery. It was all very clean and there are lots of tables and chairs inside and on the balcony where you can eat and relax and enjoy the exceptional view. This place was absolutely fantastic for the price it was. We had to share bathrooms, but we didn't once run into a problem where we couldn't find an open bathroom. There were two bathrooms on either side of our room so it was really like we were sharing two bathrooms with maybe 3 other people. All the staff was friendly and helpful, they let us store our luggage there before we checked in since we got there early, and again after we checked out before we left for home. It was a great place and if I ever come to San juan again I wouldn't hesitate to get a room at posada san francisco. ***most important thing, it's a little hard to find at first. The check in desk is on the 6th floor of the building!

Yelp
GREAT price. GREAT location. Rooms are a good size. Kitchen was nice to have. Even though it was shared bathrooms there was always one open since there are 3 toilets to each floor. We stayed during San Se...it was the perfect location. The staff is awesome, friendly and they keep the place very clean. ENJOY Old San Juan!!!

Yelp
This place is an excellent option for the budget conscious traveler. Centrally located with plenty of restaurants nearby. Parking garages are a short distance away if that is a concern you may have. Simple check in process. Friendly staff. Amazing views of the city. The views alone are worth staying here. Clean. I very much enjoyed my stay.

Yelp
A great place to stay with friendly people coming in and out of the hostel. Great location in the heart of San Juan! The only problem I had is that the beds are not comfortable! My neck is hurting as I write this review.

Yelp
This is the perfect location to stay in Old San Juan. Right in the middle of the city, there are several balconies overlooking the marina and the city, as it's one the highest points in the area. We stayed over New Years and could see fireworks throughout the city. The rooms are simple (bed, chair, fridge, tv, a/c), but spacious with good air flow (not stuffy). Although there are shared bathrooms, they are several so I felt like I had my own. The set-up of this place is funky in the best of ways. I would stay here again.

Yelp
It's a nice place to stay for a couple of nights located in the heart of old San Juan, the building itself is awesome. It's a family owned guest house, rooms are big enough and clean.

Yelp
My husband and I loved our stay here. All the women of the staff, including the housekeepers, were so friendly and helpful, recommending places to eat, shows to go see and directions to different sites and bus stops. We were on the sixth floor and were blown away every morning and evening by the gorgeous views from the balcony. The room was a simple bed, tv, fridge, chair and closet. Exactly what we needed since all we needed was a place to sleep. After walking the hot streets of the city, the AC in the room greeted us blowing strong and cool every time we returned. The floor we were on had several shared bathrooms, and we felt very safe and comfortable. Meeting other travellers from everywhere was another plus that you don't experience from staying at a regular hotel. Also the hostel is walking distance to everything - the San Cristobal castle is literally next door. We are so glad we chose to experience Old San Juan this way instead of just another hotel!! Would definitely come back here again!

Yelp
Not exactly a "social" hostel, like others I have stayed at. It is mainly inexperienced backpackers coming in and out. Definitely try to stay on the more social floors, and hang out on the balcony around 8pm if you are into meeting people. Also - PACK A BLANKET. They only provide sheets (don't even try to ask for anything else), and the AC is on full blast (they don't allow you to turn it down).

Yelp
Honestly, if you're on a budget, this place is ideal! The rooms were clean, the location was good, and my single $35/night "tiny" room was bigger than I expected and included a mini fridge and drawers. There's a shared balcony on every floor, the bathrooms are private (though shared), and the concierge was helpful and kind. 10/10

Yelp
Great location, awesome views, and it's really cheap. I think I paid $27 a night for a shared room, and for a few nights I was the only one in my room. Don't buy sunblock, etc., before coming here because a lot of people can't fly back with it so they leave it at the hostel (I did). They also organize day trips to various places in Puerto Rico; I went to El Yunque. The driver was a crazed Austrian woman who, on the drive back down the mountain, had me convinced we she was going to take our group careening over the side to our doom. Don't go on the day trips if you're not prepared to possibly get into a car accident.

Yelp
Definately stay here when traveling in or out of san Juan. CLEAN, very basic, shared kitchen was great to have. The balconies have great views. Close to everything in old San Juan. One floor has the dorm style rooms, and the other 2 floors have shared bath- privates. We had a TV and AC. Met some great travelers.... and shared experiences. The price can't be beat.

Yelp
Very clean, well maintained hostel. Lovely location at entrance to Old San Juan, superb view of Old San Juan and the harbour. EVERYTHING is on waking distance if you're not one four on the grave. Great restaurants and shops right outside. We walked to a beach called Escambron from here (1-2 mile? Well worth it). Also, we were able to tour all the forts and the cemetery by foot from here. In the hostel, rooms are simple as promised. Bathrooms are not short in supply and are very clean The kitchen area is very good. Each room has a small fridge to keep your food safe. Access to the buildingis unrestricted once you have your key card, but unregistered guests are of course forbidden. They deliver what they promise. My only disappointment with hostels in this part of the world is that it's not the norm for hostels to offer coffee, drinks, or breakfast. They have a beverage vending machine when the main office is open.

Yelp
I booked this place for one night after arriving in San Juan one night ahead of schedule. My cab driver couldn't find the place because it's not marked on the outside, and when I did enter the building I couldn't figure out how to actually find the hostel--there is nothing inside the building to indicate where to go. Some kind couple came in and must have noticed my confusion because they asked if I were looking for the hostel. They said, "Oh, just take the elevator." That didn't really help because there's no marking in the elevator to indicate which floor the reception desk was on. Finally, I gave up and quickly booked a room elsewhere.

Yelp
Best hostel ever! 4th floor the party floor with dorms from $15 a night to singles @ $25, 5th & 6th have private rooms for families & those who want the quiet life. Excellent location on the square, safe there & the area to walk around the whole city. Owners are amazing & make you feel like family. Cannot say enough about how clean, organized & friendly this hostel is. Will be back.
