My Favorite Airbnb: The Positano Villa I Booked for a Nine-Person “Friends-Moon” | Condé Nast Traveler

"We climbed to the clifftop one other time for an extremely memorable private dinner at Posides on our last night, which made the effort of the ascent worthwhile." - Katie Henwood

Posides is absolutely one of my favorite places to eat in all of Italy. The brothers who run it, along with their staff, are so kind, friendly, and genuinely passionate about what they do. The space is small and charming, with an open kitchen where you can watch the magic happen. There’s limited seating, but it’s well worth the wait. The food is incredible; fresh, creative, and full of heart. The cappuccino was perfect, and the carbonara toast was unforgettable. I still think about it. The French toast was another standout, made with thick custardy brioche, fresh berries, and a crème brûlée topping that was absolute perfection. Everything feels local and seasonal, and the menu changes often, which makes every visit special. An amazing spot with a cozy vibe, beautiful plating, and some of the best food I had anywhere in Italy.

This was without question the most memorable meal we’ve ever had in our travels, and this is our fourth trip to Italy. Before arriving in Positano, I read countless reviews trying to find the best places to eat. This place stood out with consistently glowing ratings. Even so I approached it with cautious optimism knowing how unreliable online reviews can be. But from the moment we arrived, every expectation was exceeded. Meeting Antonio was a highlight as well. His warmth and kindness were immediately evident and his passion for cooking radiated through every dish. The meal was extraordinarily crafted in every way. My wife and I can’t stop talking about the meal. We are even considering extending our stay just to join Antonio’s cooking class. If it’s anything like the meal we enjoyed, I’m certain it would be an incredible experience. Thank you, Antonio, and to the entire team. You gave us a meal we’ll never forget. We’re deeply grateful for the care, hospitality, and culinary magic you shared with us.

Posides is truly a gem! From the moment we walked in, the service was warm and welcoming — we immediately felt at home. Every dish was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious, but the standout for us was the French toast — rich, decadent, and topped perfectly. The scrambled eggs with pancetta, the avocado toast, and the baked eggs in tomato sauce were also incredible, each plate prepared with such care and flavor. The atmosphere is cozy yet vibrant, and the staff went above and beyond to make our experience special. We left full, happy, and already planning our next visit. Highly recommend!

Google
Absolutely Amazing Experience. A Must-Visit! We had both breakfast and lunch here, and every single dish was outstanding. The French toast was delicious, and the fresh orange juice was the perfect start to the day. But the real star was the meatballs. Honestly, the best I’ve ever had in my life! Can’t forget their amazing drinks. My husband ordered negroni and it came out fast and he loved it. We wanted to stay longer to enjoy drinks but because of rainy weather, we didn’t want to hold the table too long so they could get more people served. The staff were all incredibly kind and welcoming. It was especially heartwarming to see them greet Korean guests in Korean, such a thoughtful touch that shows how much they care. There’s also a very handsome guy working there! If we ever come back to this area, we’ll definitely return. This place is a gem, and I can’t recommend it enough!

We LOVED Posides. Came to Positano for the day from Amalfi. This was the best restaurant we’ve eaten at. My son found it based on reviews, so we were determined to go. It’s a small restaurant. Menu changes daily. We were treated like family. Lots of laughs. Cafe Americano was also delicious. We ordered off the daily menu. The pappardelle and Snapper were absolutely incredible! We also ordered the French toast from the regular menu for dessert. You can get off the ferry and walk all the way up the man street (my preferred for the view and sites), or get off the ferry and go left up the many steps (our preferred way down). This is a MUST GO!!! They know how to cook.

Google
Unquestionably one of the best meals we’ve had on our European vacation. Antonio and Ilario were very welcoming and fun to talk with. The flavors and views were amazing. We highly recommend slowing down and spending a bit of time enjoying the experience! Edited… So good that we had to go back before we left Positano. This time we came for lunch after having a wonderful breakfast just a few days earlier. Once again, Antonio and Ilario presented us with an amazing experience. One that we’ll relive every time we view our photo album. If only we could transport ourselves back for any other fantastic meal by these two brothers….

Google
An absolute gem! We were recommended to come here by our Airbnb host. We ordered cappuccinos, the poached spicy eggs and french toast for brunch. They only had 5 items on the menu and let me tell you they mastered those dishes! While the restaurant is small, it had a lovely atmosphere and great personable service. Don’t let the prices scare you. Since positano is on the pricier end anyway, this place was ACTUALLY worth it! The chef also offers cooking classes in the evening, which is why they are only open for breakfast and lunch. One of the best meals we’ve had here!

WOW. I am in love with this place. I came here for breakfast and honestly this is just an incredible place. It was not so terribly far from my hotel despite the very tremendous heat but it was a great place. It had a nice view, and the staff were so incredibly nice. They were so friendly and welcoming— I felt truly relaxed and happy. As for the food. It was DELICIOUS. I do not usually give five stars as I am brutally honest but I ordered avocado toast and french toast and I really wish I hadn’t been so full because each toast was splendid. It was another taste from another dimension. It was so good I was blown away. I definitely. Recommend this place to anyone staying in Positano.

Yelp
Posides was one of the most memorable meals of our trip. We had a cozy table for two on the terrace overlooking the most stunning Positano views, the kind that make you pause and soak in every moment. The food was outstanding. The Caprese salad was fresh and bursting with flavor, and the prosciutto salad was beautifully balanced with just the right mix of savory and sweet. Every ingredient tasted incredibly fresh and thoughtfully prepared. The drinks were equally impressive. The house Posides Spritz was refreshing and perfectly balanced made with a cherry liquor, and the limoncello spritz was smooth, bright, and easily one of the best we've had in Italy. We finished with an affogato that was the perfect finale, rich espresso poured over creamy gelato for a sweet, satisfying finish along with the seasonal cake. Service was warm, friendly, and attentive throughout the evening, making the experience feel personal and relaxed. The restaurant is a bit of a walk from the city center with a few stairs to climb, but it's absolutely worth it. The stroll back down afterward is the perfect way to walk off the meal. Between the amazing food, stunning terrace views, and kind service, Posides is a true Positano gem.

Yelp
We traveled to 3 different cities in Italy during our trip and Posides was my favorite restaurant! It is intimate, family owned, and has an open kitchen. The brothers, Antonio and Ilario, banter with each other and with customers so it really feels like you are in their home. You can tell that they are passionate and enjoy sharing their food. There is limited seating and they don't take reservations so you may have a wait. Don't forget to take a photo of the menu before you come in. The menu is small and curated because they have mastered their craft and source fresh local ingredients. All of the dishes we tried were absolutely amazing! I would love to return one day.

Yelp
This place has all the Positano charm you'd expect. Feels like you're watching a family prepare their meals right in front of you. They have cute seating with an option to sit on the balcony for 1 table, overlooking the island. Also, tomatoes were some of the best we had on the entire trip. Incredible breakfast with lovely mimosas and freshly squeezed juice. Fresh basil, flaky sea salt, and rich pancetta alongside eggs. Can't get much better than that! 5 star service too!

Yelp
A must try in Positano. I first tried Posides last summer after a friend highly recommended the restaurant. It did not disappoint then, and it did not disappoint today. The chefs create a warm environment, where everyone feels like a guest in their home. The rotating menu ensures that you're getting the best Positano has to offer that day. I will definitely be returning for a third visit

Yelp
We saw conflicting hours info online, showed up and they said they weren't open until 9:15. The place is cute but tiny, only 5-6 tables. But as a result, service was attentive (although the food quite slow to come out). Small breakfast menu, pricing a tad high...our French toast was tasty, yet 20E for one thick slice with berries & cream. You can, however, tell that presentation and flavors are focused on here more than many other restaurants in town.

Yelp
This place was truly magnificent! Not only was the food some of the, if not THE, best food we've had in Italy so far, but the chef and staff were incredible. We went for breakfast but missed the window slightly, so prefer from the slightly rotating lunch menu. And i'm glad we missed breakfast, because the lemon Cod (Baccala) and ribeye steak tagliata to die for. We are originally from Texas, where we have plenty of world class steak, and chefs to cook it. But this was truly something spectacular. We also had a Cortado (type of coffee/expresso) I special requested which was not on the menu but they accommodated anyway. Then finally a dessert which was a local pastry soaked in sweet rum with crème and fresh berries. Uh, wow?! The place is a far cry from some of the more touristy places you find scattered throughout italy, and even toward the lower areas of Positano. I find the larger the seating areas, the less handmade and handcrafted the meals, and that is usually evident in the quality of the food. This place only seats roughly 6 tables at a time, meaning you get truly handcrafted meals. We were able to engage with the chef during our stay since the food is cooked in the same room as you. There is only one table outside on a patio, so if that's what you are coming here for - plan for a wait. Small, cosy, quant, and incredible food. Worthy every penny [or your local currency]. I wish I could bottle this experience and take it home with me. Chow down, and Ciao!

Yelp
Like other reviews have mentioned, the restaurant is run like a family kitchen and invites guests into conversations that gives a very warm and friendly atmosphere. Like dining at a friend's house. We had planned to only stay for a quick bruschetta snack but had to try the pappardelle pasta with clams, swordfish, and mussels dish as we saw them being delivered to other tables. It was absolutely delicious and all of the ingredients were so fresh. I hesitated ordering dishes that included buffula mozzarella as I had a bad experience in the states but the chef brought out a fresh ball and encouraged me to try the Italian version and no pressure if I didn't like it. Well...my wife and I ate it all and I was happy that I was given a push to give something another chance. Best meal we've had in Italy!
google avatar

Yelp
This was our best dining experience in Italy. The brothers who run it are so personable. The food is out of this world . My husband was literally sighing between bites of his steak. We ate here twice and everything we ate was amazing. However long you have to wait, do NOT skip this restaurant.
google avatar

Yelp
We had a few hours in Positano and were looking for a good spot for lunch. We tried to avoid the restaurants that were immediately accessible when dropped off at the dock. The google reviews and ratings were glowing for this place. And all of the photos of the food looked amazing. We didn't realize there was a trek uphill to get there, but it was worth it! We only had to wait a few minutes for a the table to be cleared. It's a small space, but super cozy, which allowed for impeccable service. And the view from the table outside is stunning. Besides the food being outstanding, no really it was the best meal we had in Italy hands down. I'm just upset it wasn't closer to the area where we were staying because I would have eaten there everyday. The dishes were all fresh and the plates were beautifully presented. The biggest standout was interacting and observing the staff. It felt like being in a family kitchen and it made us feel at home. We shared conversation and laughs. It was a highlight of our trip and I would go back just to dine here again.

C L.

Yelp
Best food I had in Italy. Breakfast and lunch. Very small place so don't be afraid to wait. You will not be disappointed. Everything we ordered was amazing. Antonio is a master chef. Wish I could give a 10 star review. Yes! That good.
google avatar

Yelp
What a gem! We came here for brunch and I got the Carbonara, which had bountiful egg, pancetta, cheese in a fluffy brioche bun. It was quite hearty and very savory! I also tried bites of the eggs in purgatory, French toast and frittata. All delicious! The eggs in purgatory had great heat to it and the french toast was soo crispy. The vanilla bean ricotta was scrumptious! The ambiance here is lovely and very seaside-esque with blue running throughout the restaurant. Highly recommend for brunch! Edit: We liked this place so much that we came back for dinner. If you like spicy food, you MUST get the spicy seafood stew. It is filled to the brim with various fish (mussels, clams, salmon, etc) and the stew is absolutely scrumptious. I asked for medium spicy and it was just so satisfyingly delicious and spicy. The bread that comes with is hearty and crispy, too!

Yelp
I don't leave reviews often, but this place is worth it. The food was amazing and the chef walked each plate to us to explain how it was made. True love goes into their food. And the service was the cherry on top as they are very attentive and made great recommendations with what pairs well with what we ordered. This has been my favorite place in Positano to eat

Nick F.

Yelp
Antonio and his brother have an absolutely lovely restaurant here. We had dinner with them and it was some of the best Italian food we have had. If you are looking for authentic, traditional, family owned, local food, or just a fantastic meal I would highly recommend Posides. If you are lucky enough to be visiting when they do a class I would highly recommend it! The class is small and personal not like some other larger chain companies. Antonio is a very knowledgeable chef and showed us exactly how to recreate his dish at home. The class was very reasonably priced for dinner, unlimited wine, cooking knowledge, wonderful hospitality, and hours of fun! Antonio thank you! We plan on dining with you sometime soon!

Yelp
The brothers at poside are absolutely hilarious. The climb to get to the restaurant is definitely well worth it. I ordered an iced coffee latte to start followed by the must have French toast, and finished with freshly squeezed filtered orange juice. Everything from start to finish here was amazing. Exceptional food and service you will leave with never forgetting. 10/10 recommend
google avatar

Yelp
Wonderful little hole in the wall. Food was delicious, service was great. Only a few tables and no high chairs so just keep that in mind-- but worth it if you have to wait for a table as the food was seriously sooo good.

James R.

Yelp
Probably the best meal we had in Southern Italy. Everything was freshly made right in front of you. You can literally see the chef cooking your meal. Staff was phenomenal and very friendly. They will let you know the menu if you just ask. Food was excellent. Pasta even better. Great views from the balcony table.
google avatar

Yelp
We were lucky enough to walk by Posides one day early in our week long trip in Positano. We ended up going back 4 times. The food was excellent, the people were great and the space was quiet and inviting. There's a little table on the balcony if you want a view, but really we went for the food. We tried several different restaurants during our trip but none of them came close to Posides! My wife and I loved the food and the people!
google avatar

Jane K.

Yelp
A must-visit when in Positano! Somehow, this was the first time I've come across an iced drink (on the rock) while in Italy! And it was so good. €4.5 #espressoontherocks #icedlattemacchiato #yum The Avocado Toast con Pomodoro (€13) was the best avocado toast I've tasted, and the French Toast Mascarpone alla Vaniglia (€13) was just as good! Got another Iced Latte Macchiato to go!
google avatar

Yelp
Such a gem in Positano! Small family owned restaurant with amazing food. The family took the time to chat with us while they prepared lunch and checked in consistently. The lemon creme brûlée was absolutely amazing! I hope they open for dinner soon!
google avatar

Jenny S.

Yelp
We stood in line for 15-20 minutes for breakfast to then be told they were cutting off breakfast service with the group in front of us. We didn't want to eat lunch here and ended up wasting time having to find a new spot to eat.
google avatar

Venetzy M.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious Came here to have breakfast and it was Devine! Had the eggs in purgatory, they were a perfect amount of spicy.

Marc L.

Yelp
In Italy for 2 weeks and this was our favorite meal of them all. The meatballs are incredible along with everything else. Family owned restaurant by 2 brothers and their mom. It is worth the trek from the beach. Food and experience is as good as it gets. Also amazing sommelier and most friendly staff!
google avatar

Kaylen D.

Yelp
So nice, we ate here twice! This place is quite possibly the most AMAZING place we have ever come across. My husband and I came here on our honeymoon (2 short days in Positano) and ate here both days we were here. The carbonara toast is the best thing either of us have ever eaten... to be honest my husband ordered it and I just couldn't keep my hands off it. I also tried the avocado toast the first day, and it was the second best thing either of us have ever eaten.... The final day we opted to try the French toast as well which was quite fabulous BUT I still would fight someone to the death to be able to take that carbonara toast home with me. They are only open from 9-12 but if you have to wait, this place is worth it. The family that runs it was so kind and funny. I'd come to Positano and deal with all of the stairs again just to eat here! Gratzi Mille, Posides!
google avatar

Kayhan J.

Yelp
Posides is a fantastic spot located in Positano on the Amalfi Coast. The staff and owner are super friendly and fun. They have efficient service and explain the food well. The ambiance is great, it's small but they have nice decor and a good view if you sit outside (only one or two tables outside). The food is so delicious, and healthy. They are all homemade dishes. The owner explains he simply cooks how he would cook at home, he never went to culinary school. So if you want some truly authentic Italian food this is the place to try. Everything we had was good but be sure to try the meatballs and the ravioli. Please give Posides a try when you visit Positano, it's amazing and you won't regret it. It's a perfect lunch spot!
google avatar

Semie K.

Yelp
A dream of a restaurant, it was heaven on Earth. Very cozy atmosphere with a couple of tables so we lucked out to be seated for lunch for a group of 8. We ordered almost everything on the menu and the ingredients were superbly fresh and locally sourced. The ribeye steak was one of the best steaks I've ever had and all the seafood (grilled octopus, scallops, linguine with clams) was delicious! Desserts were also amazing (lemon crème brûlée, berry panna cotta). We would come back here again in a heartbeat. The chef was a gem!
google avatar

Nicole M.

Yelp
I am so so sad we waited until the last day to stop in here. Everything was so so fresh. We took a few items to go and I loved them all. Cappuccinos were perfect. The women helping us was so so kind. Inside is small if people decide to stand inside to eat/drink but we were in and out so we didn't mind. Highly recommend.

Blake M.

Yelp
Best restaurant I've ever been to in my entire life. Don't miss this if you're in Positano or you're making a massive mistake.
google avatar

Emma K.

Yelp
This was one of my favorite restaurants in Italy. The food was just so delicious and beautiful. You can see how fresh everything is because the kitchen is right there in front of you preparing your food. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and made sure that your experience was great. The chefs would talk to you and make jokes, and it added so much character to the cafe. The casual and comforting ambiance of this little cafe by the sea allowed us the relax and enjoy an amazing meal. The big stand out was the tagliolini with shrimps and lemon. It might be one of the best dishes I've ever had. The fresh amalfi lemon, local shrimp and homemade pasta was perfection. We also loved the homemade ravioli and the sea bass. We ended the meal with Delizia al limone, and it was the best we had on the Amalfi Coast. I highly recommend Posides!
google avatar

Jordan R.

Yelp
A tiny, hidden gem! We stopped in here on our last day and I'm so glad we did! You could almost miss it on the hill, but you shouldn't. We had a table in the corner and could look outside. The views here are amazing. The food though was especially good! We had mozzarella, avocado toast and some prosciutto. This place is family run, and he literally sliced the tomatoes and cheese, etc while chatting with us. His mom ran next door and got the basil for our topping. It was delicious- high quality ingredients served well. Oh, and great wine. And all at a good price! They mother and son were so nice, and it was her birthday! We would definitely go back and recommend you stop in!

Aaron L.

Yelp
Meh Okay food Decent coffee Terrible service I feel there are many other options in town that are way better than this. Like casa e bottega.
google avatar

Dylan K.

Yelp
My favorite little spot in Positano. The staff is hilarious and incredible. The food measures up to the best of them. You can even request a small balcony for 2 for a romantic lunch/dinner. I had the ravioli and my wife had the prosciutto and melon salad. Both out of this world.
google avatar

Yelp
Absolutely Amazing!! This family small business is a hidden Gem in Small town Positano. Can easily be missed due to how small of a location it is, but when you stumble into it, you will be happy you did. The Service is 2nd to none and they greet you properly and are very attentive. Antonio one of the sons and the main cook did amazing on all of our dishes that we tried the 3 days in a row we attended. Let's not forget about his Texas GF who has a lovable personality who treated us with that Texan Hospitality that can't be miss as she from Houston Texas. Amazing!!! Make sure you all stop here to see for yourself why this is the best place to have lunch in Positano.
google avatar

Chelsea B.

Yelp
The best breakfast we had while in Positano! Great food and great service. Be patient, it does take a little bit because there is only one cook and it's a tiny little space but it's so worth it! They do have a single patio table with a great view but overall you come here for the food, not the view! Definitely recommend! We had their espresso on the rocks, French toast and carbonara toast. All were fantastic! They will even whip you up something not on the menu if you can't find anything that jumps out!

Bryan S.

Yelp
Amazing food, the two brothers are hilarious and make for a fun experience while eating the best food we had in Italy.

Amanda B.

Yelp
This is hands down the best breakfast in Positano if you're looking for something with more substance than coffee and pastries. The staff were really nice and spoke English. Tiny place but well worth the wait!

Ashley Z.

Yelp
Posides is an adorable cafe with delicious food. We ate at Posides for breakfast and got the French toast and lemon ricotta pancakes with a peach sauce (daily special). Both melted in our mouths and were incredibly fresh.

Shawn T.

Yelp
Amazing little spot for great drinks and great food. Started with the caprese salad which was simple but done to perfection and highly recommend. Then my wife and I shared the grilled octopus with spicy tomato sauce and mashed potatoes and the tagliolini with lemon shrimp. Seems like the menu changes daily but so far this was the best meal on our honeymoon.

Rosa Z.

Yelp
The best food I've ever had. I got the meatballs and affogato and my boyfriend got the sea bass and lemon cake. We are already looking forward to eating there tomorrow. The atmosphere was perfect - the chef cooks right in front of you and is extremely kind. You can tell he truly is passionate about cooking and making a nice environment for his guests.

Elizabeth K.

Yelp
Take the cooking class! It's a must! So fun and engaging. Small group and each person participates to the meal. We made 2 pastas, meatballs and dessert. The food was so good we came back for lunch the next day.
google avatar

Brendan S.

Yelp
We walked past this place a few times and decided to try it today. It's a small little cafe with 3 tables inside and one table for 2 on the balcony. Lucky for us the balcony was available. I got scrambled eggs and my wife got the yogurt with pistachio (they were out of granola) and Fruit. The eggs were delicious and I am glad they were as they were the first eggs I've had in about 9 days. They definitely hit the spot.
google avatar

Paula M.

Yelp
The food was delicious. The staff very friendly. Definitely recommend. We ate the best pasta with lemon sauce and shrimp. The place is small and cozy and they make you feel at home.
google avatar

Joelle M.

Yelp
This quaint little cafe is dishing out some of the most incredible and unique Italian dishes in Positano. Run by the absolute nicest family, we had the opportunity to meet Antonio and Ilario, brothers who make this place feel like home for every person who walks through the door. We went twice during our quick trip and wish we could have visited once more before leaving to try more of their creative plates. Stop in! You won't regret it
google avatar

Taylor B.

Yelp
Great food and drinks, and even better hospitality! I will come here every time I visit Positano.

Julia H.

Yelp
Such a great spot! Went there for breakfast every day. Ricotta toast was heavenly. Very fresh, chef grows the food locally. Owned by two brothers, very charming. Amazing ambiance and service!

Elizabeth K.

Yelp
Looks like just a cafe, but they serve better food than most restaurants around. I had the special Nona burger and it was . The French toast was amazing too. Great service, very chilled out, overall awesome experience, no complaints.

Alex C.

Yelp
Touched down to Positano after being around Italy for several days. One of the best pastas I've had during my stay here. Seems like the lunch menu changes to maintain freshness of the ingredients. We had the burrata with anchovies/crouton/lemon/cherry tomatoes. Just delicious. But what shined was the shrimp linguini. This dish is made of just pasta water, lemon, and fresh Sicilian red shrimp. The shrimp is thrown in last just mild searing. The shrimp was perfect- texture and taste is akin to Japanese sweet shrimp amaebi but hot. Absolutely amazing with just those ingredients. The Service was excellent. Antonio, the chef, was very passionate about each dish. If you're in this area, would highly highly recommend. The cafe is a humble, cool little space with only one 3-person table on the balcony with a partial but beautiful view of the Positano harbor. However, the food easily stole the show. We happened to stumble upon it, and we are lucky we did.

Yelp
Posides Cafe is favoloso! I have been in Positano for 2 weeks and this cafe was our go-to for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The quality of the food is authentic Italian with the finest ingredients, priced more than fairly. The owners are 2 brothers, Antonio and Ilario. They are charming, talented and have learned all the best from their beautiful Neopolitan mamma, Annalisa! They speak excellent English as well. Don't miss this wonderful experience in gorgeous Positano. #BeautifulLifestyle #PositanoLove

Yelp
Great drinks. Relaxed atmosphere, beautiful terrace if you're lucky enough to claim it. :)
