Positano vs. Capri — Which Is Best for Your Italy Trip?

"Positano is a picturesque town on the Amalfi Coast known for its steep cliffs, colorful buildings, and beautiful beaches. It offers a laid-back atmosphere with sandy beaches, historic sites like the Museo Archeologico Romano, and scenic hiking trails such as the Path of the Gods." - Laura Itzkowitz Laura Itzkowitz Laura Itzkowitz is a writer and editor based in Rome. Visiting Positano Spiaggia was truly an unforgettable experience. As soon as you arrive in Positano and begin walking down toward the beach, it feels like stepping into a living painting. The colorful houses cascading down the hills, blended with the deep blue of the sea and the clear sky, create a breathtaking scene that’s hard to put into words. The beach itself is well-organized, with long rows of blue umbrellas and sunbeds that add a beautiful touch to the view. The water is clean and crystal clear, though it can be a bit chilly depending on the time of year. The atmosphere is relaxing, and the sound of the waves adds a soothing background to your time there. There are plenty of restaurants and cafés just steps away from the shore, where you can enjoy a delicious Italian meal or a refreshing drink while taking in the sea view. Prices can be slightly higher than in other places, but the overall experience is well worth it. Walking along the pathways around the beach offers great opportunities to capture panoramic photos of one of the most beautiful coastal towns in the world. Whether you’re here to sunbathe, swim, or simply sit back and people-watch, Positano Spiaggia leaves you with a special memory that lasts a lifetime. For me, it was a day full of beauty, and I will definitely return in the future.

It is as breathtaking and amazing as you see in the pictures. The colourful village pirched of the rocks just looks amazing from whichever angle you look. The only problem is, because it looks so good, everyone wants to take a picture everywhere. It can get very crowded and people stalling everywhere for pictures makes the walking experience somewhat bothersome. The beach itself is also lovely although much of it is encroached by the restaurants so the public area is tiny. Yet definitely would do it again.

The beach has too much trash and is very close to the boat docks, which makes it feel crowded and a bit messy. Surprisingly, the water was cleaner than expected. There’s a public shower available – €0.50 per wash.

Positano looks like a real-life postcard. Colorful houses, breathtaking views, and a town center full of charm. The beach is mostly private (tiny public area), and there are tons of stairs. It gets packed in summer, but the vibe makes it all worth it.

Great beach. Had a blast here. Bring sandals during summer or you will burn your feet on the black sand. Dreamy location for some sun, a beer or some ice cream whatever you fancy

The views are pictoresque and the village is constructed in a very interesting way but I was really dissapointed with the dirtiness of the water. It was disgusting and what a pity for the prices you pay there. Really overrated/overpriced.

Horrible! 95% of the Beach is owned by Restaurants and clubs with overpriced chairs and umbrellas (50€/pers entrance ) 5% of the beach is for tourists (average not part of some fancy club or just visiting for the day) and the pebbles were thrown from the beach owned by restaurants into the side for general public. I don’t recomand Positano in general: overpriced, over crowded! People were fighting to get into busses at any hour of the day! Is just human basic rights to be able to access Earth resources ( beaches, forests and mountains) and be enjoyed by everyone!

The picturesque views around the beach are breathtaking! The walkways were easy to navigate as long as you can use stairs. The streets and alleyways are filled with vibrant selections from local artists and dining opportunities. Once you get to the beach area, you'll want to secure a spot to relax as you enjoy your break. The water is delightful but be prepared to navigate large hot pebbles to get there.
