We took a mini road trip down to North Carolina to spend a few days at Getaway Asheboro. It was a beautiful sight to wake up to in the mornings, even with the rainy weather. I can't explain how liberating it was to unplug from technology, airplane mode is a godsend! Just us, the fire, the fresh air, and great homemade food we made ourselves. We felt very welcome, check in with key code was easy! Place was easy enough to find considering there was a tornado warning rainstorm outside. The welcome note was a great touch with the s'more kit! Love it. View decent. Love that you can contact them via text and also there is a emergency phone in cabin complete with hot running water and heater/ac. Love that there is a 2 burner stove and gooseneck kettle! Didn't like that the 2 burner stove can ideally only fit 1 pot at a time. Forgot the cord to my Coleman stove otherwise I would have cooked outside on the picnic table. Fire pit has a covered plastic trunk on each cabin so your wood bundles stay dry! They charge 6.50 a bundle of firewood used after checkout! How convenient and awesome!
Things we disliked: I emailed to request a view by the water, there were serveral (at least 5-6 from walking around that we saw and we booked 3 months ahead of time, and saw some were available but we still didn't get assigned one (main bummer), the step to our bed in the Walt cabin was super squeaky noisy!!, there was no dish rack (though we saw images of other cabins with a dish rack design. Mini fridge was great but do NOT rely on the freezer up top it. We placed some of our bag of ice in there and it didn't last the night - full on puddle inside that I cleaned it before leaving. My cooler I left in the trunk of my car kept ice for the total 4 days we were there - I drove back home with it!
Things to note: 1) no WiFi or TV or microwave (didn't bother us bc we are used to camping in a tent, but if you're looking for more of a hotel stay, this might bother you lol) 2) it's all gravel road once you enter the property. You could probably get by without 4wd/awd, but at the minimum, probably best to make sure your tires are in great shape! Especially considering the bipolar weather I had to drive through to get here (drizzle, to blinding sun, to overcast, to TORRENTIAL SCARY DOWNPOUR where you saw everyone on freeway with their hazards on!! - or maybe simply pick a better weekend) 3) book AHEAD! 4-6 months ahead, ideally. The bookings go quickly, I wanted Shenandoah and it was empty one week then full the next so I lost my window to book the timeframe I wanted. Ended up at Asheboro (no regrets otherwise) 4) all cabins come with cookware and cutlery - 1 small sauce pot and a medium size skillet great quality. I simply chose to bring my own bc im quite particular - cast iron esp while camping! Love that they have can opener, lighter, great knives in cabin!! Good shit.
I love their website and how literally the photos and EVERYTHJNG was as described very accurately.
