17 Romantic Cabin Getaways in the U.S. for a Couples Trip

"Getaway Mount Adams rolls so much Pacific Northwest charm into a tiny, enticing package. The pint-size cabins are a splendid spot to snuggle, stargaze, and soak in the mountain views. Of course, with scenery this spectacular, an outdoor fire pit, and s'mores supplies available for purchase, you probably won't hole up inside no matter how enticing the all-wooden, nestlike interior. Just a two-hour drive from Portland, this complex of cabins makes for a great break from the hustle and bustle." - Travel + Leisure Editors

After monitoring the weather, I determined that road conditions could be risk. I contacted them three days before scheduled arrival. The winter weather forecast continued worsen, so I followed up again the day before arrival. Despite being unable to make it there safely, they were unwilling to allow me to reschedule. This is consistent with their policy, but in my opinion it's poor customer service.

My dog and I had an amazing second getaway at the Mt. Adam’s location :) the cabins are clean, have great views, and the property is wonderful and full of wildlife. We came across cows from the adjacent pasture, as well as deer. The staff has always been very friendly and helpful if we’ve ever needed anything as well. Really love the opportunity to disconnect from the internet and my phone as well. Keep in mind if you go in October, there’s usually a burn ban so no campfire which is a bummer; but they do provide a small electric grill so you can still cook outside :) we will be back next year!

I've been to these cabins multiple times in the past and have always enjoyed it so so much. but it's under new management now and the customer service sucks. I went back and forth with their nonsensical, intentionally and deliberately obtuse emails, and eventually gave up and cancelled my reservation. What a shame. Nice concept and nice location, but worst customer service you'll ever find in a million years or in a million miles in any direction.

We have stayed here before and found it pleasant, but have had such a bad experience dealing with them this time that I will never be back. We booked a stay about a month out but the flu hit our household and we have had such a hard time trying to cancel or rebook--as others have said, it is so different from hotels or even airbnbs which will let you cancel or reschedule your stay with ease and not have to pay so much. The back and forth is so onerous, and they are claiming that we have to pay a rate increase (despite the dates having identical rate pricing) that it will end up costing far far more than it should, and if covid/flu or anything else hits again, we will be like $450 in the hole. I am so disappointed in these policies and their inflexible interpretation of them and their customer service that we would never plan to stay here again. Edit: we booked under my husband's name, and he was too busy dealing with customer service.

It was a great time! Pros: everything was set up as expected. Received my cabin assignment in the morning. No issues getting in. Even the added on fire starter was ready to go and covered in the fire pit. Perfect cabin location (Herschel), but feel like I was lucky that it was in the back facing trees vs. the front facing the cow pasture. Cons: While I think that no cell service is a great way to escape, I was holding Postcard to their claim that the landline works in the cabin. It did not in my case. I tried contacting maintenance and would hear the automation but the line would cut off when trying to reach them. Their customer service could do better. The hot water really does run out fast, so I’m hesitant to recommend these cabins for more than two people. If I had a partner with me? We’d struggle over how long our showers should take. ;) Overall, perfect for me and Gaia! P.S. Just a word of caution, watch out for ticks! Had to flush four down the toilet. But I went on a hike, so they may not have come from the Postcard site itself. Cell service really does not exist here and won’t be available until BZ Corner or Trout Lake. Be mindful if you’re expecting even “spotty” cell service. But if you really want “off the grid” like I did, then you’re in the right place!

The $50 fee to cancel or reschedule your reservation within 14 DAYS (!!) and no flexibility on this is a deal breaker for me. It's also hard to reschedule because you'll be emailing back and forth for days. UPDATE 10/22: I see a response to my bad review... is odd that it says "we were unaware" and that my feedback was welcome because I escalated my issue to management who said "to ensure fairness and consistency for all customers" they would have no flexibility to the cancellation policy. The icing on the cake was that by the time the issue was resolved (after all the back and forth emailing since again a phone call is not an option) it was 2 days before my reservation so they cancelled my reservation per my request but I was charged the FULL AMOUNT of my stay, though my first contact to change my reservation was 12 days before my reservation date. I cannot recall a time where I experienced such terrible customer service.

What a lovely little cabin. The kitchenette is well-stocked and well-situated. The bed is comfortable, and the site is so sweet. The fire pit was so nice to have. It's just great.

This review may read like an IATA? on Reddit, but I think it is important to share for anyone considering Getaway. We booked a cabin six days in advance of our stay. During the checkout process the website was clear that the reservation could not be canceled or changed within 72 hours of our stay. Unfortunately, my partner came down with Covid 48 hours before our stay. We know that you are supposed to stay at home when you have Covid, so we decided to do just that. I contacted Getaway that same day to explain the circumstances and ask if we could reschedule or receive credit for a future stay. I made the same request the day of our check in and check out. Every time, I received the same copy/paste message that we were outside of the policy (which we were) they would "uphold our policy". This was frustrating because we are all living in a Covid world and we were trying to do the right thing by staying at home (who wants to stay in a cabin just vacated by Covid positive people, not to mention the staff member responsible for cleaning it?). Meanwhile, all of my interactions with Getaway felt like I was dealing with an AI bot and not a real human on the other side. In the end, we never made it to the cabin and were out the entire cost of our reservation.
