This hotel is a very original place, the main part is a conversion from very old country buildings, old hand hewed wood for roof supports, doors and window frames all painted in lovely colours. Nothing is modern at all apart from the plumbing and the kitchen. Breakfast was a wonderful selection of bread, cakes, both savoury and sweet, straight out of the oven and a good selection of tropical fruit too. The staff were very friendly and efficient. Big pots of delicious soup were put on a tabletop wood-burning oven of an evening for free self service - how unique was that? Despite it being the middle of the the Brazilian winter and high in the mountains the rooms were pleasantly warm.

Lovely public spaces, helpful staff, walking distance to main attractions. Breakfast was good and they also offered bowls of soup and bread in the evening. We were a family of three and had a large room in the older part of the hotel. Nothing fancy about the room but more than adequate for our.needs.

We rented the whole pousada for our wedding in Diamantina. The place is very nice, the other evaluations give details on that. What we liked a lot is that Fabiana, the owner, and her team where extremely supportive, creative, and reliable with the whole organization involved. All the planning worked out smoothly. We had a small reception the evening before the wedding where they prepared food, caipirinhas, fruit juices etc. Everyone loved it. Small hickups like a flooded bathroom where sorted out directly. Every single one of our international and local guests commented how they had a great time. Thank you!

There's every reason for this inn to be voted the best in Diamantina. It's like an oasis in the center of a rather busy historic "downtown". We requested and were enchanted in getting chalet #15, the furthest within the vast backyard of this historic property, where we really could only hear the birds and the chickens in the morning. It was the perfect place to rest, but just walking out the door of the property, you are within walking distance of every attraction in this town.||||Can't say enough about the team that make one feel totally at a home away from home - or rather, as if visiting family out of town. Special kudos to the 2 ladies who serve a delicious breakfast - and I had some of the best omelettes ever, Adriana and Rose. But Adriana at the front desk in the morning and Marco in the afternoon were extremely helpful in their own way, as was Manuel, the owner's university student son, who lent us his armstrength to carry our luggage up the hill to the chalet.||||The rooms are very clean. And though in a way it could be considered an inconvenience to leave the car in a private walking area a 5 minute walk away, it was so good not to have to worry about driving for 2 days. The cobblestone streets are challenging for car and driver. Just don't forget anything in your car that you'll need during your stay!||||If there is only one detail we'd recommend working on is adding a larger shelf in the shower stall to leave things like shampoos, etc.||||Not cheap, but we felt like every real was well-spent.

I stayed for a week in one of the "chalets". A little plain but very comfortable and well-kept. The breakfast buffet offered an interesting variety of typical Brazilian food, including fresh tropical fruits. The courtyard is very quiet. in the evening, sometimes you can faintly hear the music school nearby, but it ends well before midnight.

This 200 year old Pouso is near the centre down a very steep hill from the bus station and is ideally placed. ||||Our room in the main building was rather dark with poor lighting, a TV with distorted picture and sound, and a shelf which looked as if it belonged in a warehouse rather than a hotel for hanging clothes. We found the poor lighting irksome but no telly and basic decor didn't matter since the place was clean and comfortable.||||There are, however, other comfortable rooms in which to sit and a big plus is the excellent breakfast. ||||General observation about accommodation.||||Be aware that the price quoted for some hotels is the basic one subject to the addition of taxes or supplements for week end occupancy which can hike the price considerably, so always check that what is quoted covers everything, breakfast and all taxes and supplements. I understand Portuguese and was horrified by the extras which some places there wanted to charge. Avoid week-ends if you can and if you are going to stay three nights ask for a discount.

My wife and I stayed at Pouso da Chica some days end of December. Again, we had a relaxing stay, very attentive staff, amazing breakfast with homemade dishes and fresh juices, and the really nice courtesy soup in the afternoon. It feels very familiar there. E.g., when Fabiana, the owner, perceived that I was curious about a small local fruit, the pitanga, Fabiana got a latter, climbed up a tree, collected fruit, and made me a pitanga juice. See you again soon!

We were happy with our room and for the most part felt that the staff were friendly and tried to help us even with the language challenge. There was an English speaking staff member there when we checked in, and I tried my best with my limited Portuguese (at least I tried). Unfortunately, there was one woman on the reception desk who was repeatedly not helpful and when I asked to have a cab called for us once went off on me for about five minutes (fortunately I didn't understand her), until another woman there said she would take care of it. I've traveled before in Brasil, and I'm pleased to say I haven't had this experience often. It was an unfortunate blight on an otherwise pleasant stay.
