Being a colonial building it does have some charm but the property is not well maintained and we found a dirty room, of which we couldn't open the window blinds. The only positive thing is the location if you wish to stay in the historical city centre. We are not Brazilians and do make an effort to speak Portuguese even if it is not one of our spoken languages, but the staff wasn't friendly at all. Especially the person at reception during the daytime. Breakfast was lower to the standard we got used to in other hotels during our trip of 20 days around Brazil.

This place is a dump! We stayed at an Amazon Jungle Village cabin with huge spiders, bugs and it had 5 wall hooks, but it was in the jungle!. This place is barely a step up. Pitiful. Walked to dinner and I was fearful of my life the whole way, and it was only about 10 blocks. Very scary neighborhood. Either scalding or cold water in the shower…you choose.

Great place to host yourself, nearby downtown, Pelourinho and "Mercado modelo".

I was in room 8 (first floor - there is no ground floor) and despite being very tidy, the room smells like mold. The room was painted and clean, but the smell was enough to trigger my allergies. There was a problem with the A/C, which was rapidly solved. The staff was very attentive. They even tried to get me another room, but all the other rooms on that floor had the same smell. On the upper floor, on apartment I visited did not have that smell, on the contrary. There was a pleasantly clean smell.||It's location is good, near Elevador Lacerda. ||Because it is an old building, it is not adapted, so I do not recommend it to elderly people and to people with disabilities. In order to get to the reception, one has to go up two flights of stairs.||Breakfast does not offer a lot of options, however it is pretty good. Fresh cakes, bread, cold and hot food, besides coffee, milk and juice are served. The view from the room is breathtaking.||Despite the smell of mold, I recommend this hotel (if you don't have allergies). The staff is great, the building is beautiful and the location is good.

When the taxi dropped us off outside the pousada it looked like a derelict building! But what a surprise!!! Inside this pousada/hotel is a stunning old colonial building with original floorboards and beautifully furnished. The breakfast room has awesome views of the bay from three huge windows. We were upgraded to a loft room which had two levels. Bathroom and lounge area on the ground floor with a little wooden staircase leading to a spacey bedroom with twin beds and a decent sized wardrobe. Just steps down the corridor was a balcony terrace with more amazing views of the bay. Perfect for sunset drinks and nibbles! Such amazing value! Staff were all friendly with one English speaking who was so helpful. I would recommend this hotel for location, friendliness, cleanliness and even though updated it has also kept its colonial decor but in a fresh way.

From the outside it didn’t look like anything special and we were worried that we had booked the wrong place!||How wrong we were, the location for carnival was great. The staff were so helpful especially as we spoke little Portuguese, they ensured that we were safe and knew where we were going. They booked tours for us and arranged taxis. ||The rooms are old but it goes with the theme of the hotel, they are cleaned daily and are spacious. ||We extended our stay by 2 additional nights as we were so happy.||Thanks to George and the team for making us feel so welcome and safe!

We loved our stay! We arrived 4am and were told by the reception person that there is no room available till 12pm. He also told us that we can not lie down on the benches. But when we asked if we could go for a walk, he paniced and suddenly told us that there is a room available!||In the morning we met the manager (Aristo) and explained what happened and he apologized for that and told us that he would be able to give us another room later in the day. We were really impressed by the room. It was a loft and really nice.||I liked the classic look of the building with high cieling and original wood floor. The hotel is located very close to the elevator and the historic centre. It is however not safe to walk around at night. The hotel also provides individuale safe boxes at the reception which is very convinient. The view from the breakfast room is amazing.||Overall we were pleased with our stay at this hotel.
