Don't be put off by the title of this review, rooms are large with great views of the valley unfortunately our room was in a modern wing with lack of soundproofing. A good size bathroom with bath and nice terrace. The room does need a coat of paint but besides that enjoyed the stay. Breakfast was buffet style and generally good, coffee from the automatic machine was poor. Quite good bakery section. Staff were very pleasant

Both the hotel and the restaurant were superb! The hotel is a renovated Convent with large rooms that are well appointed and elegant. We were sorry that we only were staying one night. Our room on the second floor had a large private balcony with a view of ruins and the countryside. There was no elevator (not a problem for us, we travel light- but FYI). Lovely common area near the bar- we were sorry we made an early dinner reservation and did not have time to sit there with a glass of wine before hand. Make a reservation for dinner- the dining room filled up. the food was excellent I had a creamy pea soup that was superb and spouse had scallops with a sweet potato froth for starters that may have been the best thing either of us ate in two weeks in Portugal (that included 6 Michelin recommended or starred spots). The breakfast buffet was plentiful and more than adequate. Belmonte was worth the detour and the Pousada and restaurant were icing on the cake.

Absolutely Gorgeous. Only 24 rooms, incredibly views, historical building, up on a hill overlooking the valley below. Balcony off your room lead to incredibly star gazing. Breakfast was included for our room. Well designed spaces for lounging within the former monastery. (Convent)

A wonderful building with great views overlooking the valley. We had a large room with a balcony. Everything was very clean, although I found the pillows uncomfortable. Nice pool with loungers on the terrace.|Dinner was excellent but the breakfast was only average.||The staff were very friendly except the man on the desk when we arrived. He did not offer to get our bags from the car and only offered to help when I struggled with my suitcase down the step. He then took it to our room but left the case in the corridor. He did not give us any information about the hotel facilities, or Belmonte other than ask if we wanted dinner. Very unsatisfactory.||There is no public bookcase but there maybe a few books available if you ask.||A lovely hotel which could be so much better.

During our recent trip, we visited Pousada Convento Belmonte for coffee, having previously enjoyed excellent service at other Pousadas, where we stayed However, unlike our prior experiences, we found the service here lacking, with minimal staff assistance beyond the receptionist. After a significant delay, we ordered two cappuccinos, only to receive a beverage that resembled powdered milk. Upon expressing our dissatisfaction, a second attempt resulted in a marginally improved, yet still unsatisfactory, drink. It became apparent that the bar staff lacked the necessary skills to prepare a basic cappuccino (a lady) and her attitude suggested we were being unreasonable. This was disappointing, especially considering the Pousada's beauty. The lack of staff knowledge and poor customer service detracted from our experience, and we regret choosing to stop there, despite having planned a stay at Convento Belmonte, when we made the reservations.

Such a gem! Driving up the mountainside we did not expect this exquisite destination. Historic yet relevant. The rooms had all the modern amenities yet you felt like you stepped back in time. The restaurant was lovely with fresh and locally forward cuisine. My only regret is that we did not stay longer. It was truly one of our loveliest moments in Portugal.

I booked a Superior room and got a bog standard one.|When I pointed out the mistake at reception I was told I have a Superior room.|In that case, the photographs on their website are misleading to say the least.|The room we have is described as Classic on their website, a step down from what we booked and paid for. Indeed, it has less in it than the cheaper room in the way of seating|We have visited this hotel many times, but sadly this will be the last. |Note to the management - don’t downgrade your loyal clients

The hotel is an old monastery that has been modernized. It was amazing. The staff was great. We also ate at the restaurant, and the food was outstanding. I highly recommend.
