The Vestiges of Southern Portugal's Islamic Empire
"The marigold façade of the Pousada Convento in Tavira, a town on Portugal's southern coast, gleams in the late-afternoon sun. Refreshing as it is to sip chilled pineapple juice in the Algarve heat, it's not the promise of shade that leads me into its cloisters. The tranquil courtyard, flanked by cheery yellow walls and weathered colonnades, is a portal to the 16th century, when the structure was built for an order of Augustinian nuns."
In the middle of the old town, nicely located, easy access to the main place by foot. |Hotel is a mixture of old and new. We had a suite in the old part of the complex, very spacy, with two bath rooms. Only bad thing are the water saver armatures which mean warm water arrives no sooner than two minutes or so.|Breakfast is excellent. Good service.|Dinner and bar services quite o.k.|Very friendly staff.

Pousada Convento Taviro was awesome. The property was beautiful and had a lot of history. The room was large and had everything we needed. We were in Portugal in November so it was a bit cool, but we're were still able to relax in their lovely pool area in the afternoon. The service from the hotel was second to none. We had a little trouble with our rental car and Alex jumped out of his chair from behind the front desk and drove it from where we were parked on the street to their secure parking area. He also gave us a short tour and history of the hotel. We were very appreciative. And the breakfast the next morning was spectacular, every kind of food you would want and more. We didn't need to eat again until dinner time that day. This was the best place we stayed in Portugal so far on our trip - we highly recommend it.

Beautiful hotel in a fabulous settling. The bedrooms are well appointed, the pool and bar area is luxurious and the breakfasts are outstanding. All the staff are extremly accommodating. The position of the hotel in the old town is charming. We had a great visit.

Beautiful property and excellent service from the front desk, food and beverage and cleaning staff. The location is close to town and yet there is the privacy of being away from the hustle and bustle. I had the breakfast included in my package and the selections were great. Didn’t have time to use the pool area.

Well located in the historic part of Tavira only a few steps from several historic buildings. The Pousada Convento Tavira was once a convent and additional excavations are ongoing. Service was excellent and our room was comfortable. Free parking was available. Breakfasts and lunch were delicious.

We had a group stay for a week. Everyone raved about the Pousada - beautiful grounds, friendly staff, delicious food. The courtyard and pool areas are so inviting and relaxing. The location (in the heart of downtown Tavira) is perfect. We will be back!

An absolutely lovely experience from start to finish. The property, the breakfast, the service. Special recognition to Alexander who stood to greet us with a smile every time we came to the front desk.

Had to leave Portugal early after a two week stay at several different hotels on my way south from Lisbon. Two of those were from the Pestana group, but the Pousada de Tavira was probably the most disappointing, I had to leave a day early do to the new covid restriction in Portugal. I had booked for three nights which I payed for up front, after staying only two nights they would not refund me one night even though it was because of the result of covid, it was also to expensive considering if was off season and the buffet was probably the worst I had on my entire trip. For the cost the room was small.
