Pousada de Obidos Historic Hotel (Óbidos, Centro) 4 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Time has a way of softening things; so it is with medieval castles converted into romantic getaways, like the lovely Pousada Castelo Óbidos, located just inland from the ocean, a short drive north of Lisbon. There’s quite a colorful history here involving falconry, fierce battles, and child brides. But you don’t need to worry about that when you’re wandering through the gardens or relaxing with a glass of wine on the stone terrace. A stone terrace called Porta da Traição — the Gate of Betrayal." - Tablet Hotels

I stayed here one night with my wife on our honeymoon and we were impressed with how friendly the staff were, from leaving a bottle of sparkling wine in our room to offering to take our luggage to the parking lot. The views from the hotel’s castle walls are UNMATCHED and definitely better than the rest of the areas open to the public. The rooms are clean, spacious, and the air conditioning was excellent. I’d say the food is pretty traditional, old school, but still tasty and fits the castle ambiance. The breakfast buffet was very extensive. This is a must-stay in Óbidos if you have the budget. Cheers!

We stayed in this hotel one night in Fernando room.|Excellent experience. Nice stuff in the hotel and in the restaurant. We parked near the town wall, and they sent stuff to pick up our luggage and bring it to the room. We also had very nice dinner in the castell restaurant. |Room was very clean; all amenities were good. Breakfast was excellent.|Of course, this was on expensive side but was worth every penny.

I stayed here for two nights in April and had a truly wonderful experience. The room was spacious and very clean, and the meals were absolutely delicious. During my stay, there was a large power outage across Portugal, but the hotel and my room stayed fully powered the whole time, which made the stay really comfortable. While I was walking up the hill with my suitcase, a staff member happened to notice me and kindly helped carry my luggage. That moment left a deep impression on me. The next day, my train to the next destination was suddenly canceled, and I wasn’t sure what to do. Thanks to the staff’s kindness in suggesting an alternative bus route, I was able to continue my journey safely. Since I’m not very confident in English, I was especially touched by the staff’s kindness and patience. I’m truly grateful for their warm hospitality—it was more than just a pleasant stay. It was a stay wrapped in genuine human kindness.

We got to stay in a castle/medieval walled city — how cool is that? We did heed some of the reviews that warned of lots of stairs and old building smells in the castle and switched to a cottage room and had an excellent experience — our room was large, we had awesome views of the city, and the bathroom was extremely well organized. Beyond that, the Pousada team was so kind and wonderful. They helped with our luggage, gave recommendations for places to eat, and gave us a ride to the train station (much appreciated, as we wouldn’t have made it easily with our luggage). We loved our cottage room, and the touch of the wax-sealed letter from Dona Ines explaining her story was a sweet touch that was both delightful and taught us a bit about the history of Portugal and where we were staying. I loved both my stays with the Pestana Group and would definitely stay again/recommend to others.

Lovely location with outstanding views!! To have breakfast in a magnificent castle is quite a delight especially when the dining room is under Juliana’s watchful eye. What a lovely smile first thing in the morning before a climb around the castle grounds and town of Obidos

Breakfast the next morning was very good and the service was five star! I would highly recommend this to anyone looking to experience a stay in a castle!

I told my husband I wanted to sleep in a real castle while on our trip to Portugal. This definitely fit the bill! The walled city of Obidos was truly magical. We enjoyed wandering the streets and visiting the shops. The service at the Pousada was fantastic, including when I missed a step and landed face down on the step just inside the door (how embarrassing). Thomas was very helpful and offered assistance and made sure I was ok. Our room in the castle, D Leonor, was spectacular and exactly as I expected. It was chilly but they provided a space heater. There were also cozy robes. The Ginja was much appreciated. I’m so glad we were able to stay here.

We came here on our honeymoon and it could not have been a better experience! It was truly magical. The rooms were incredible. The restaurant was equally amazing and Juliana gave us the best service. Cannot recommend enough!
