We are glad we stayed in a castle, however we won't do it again.|Castle stays are not for us as we enjoy bright rooms and air flow.|So, beyond that, they have welcoming and helpful staff.|Very good breakfasts. |Accessing the hotel was a bit of a challenge due to a road closure.|After a phone call, they dispatched someone who helped us park our car (about 5 minutes away)|

Staying in the castle was amazing! We explored the grounds after hours which was unreal. The bed was stiff however. The food was great. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful especially when I dropped my phone from the castle wall into a vacant backyard. Definitely memorable in a good way.

the castle and town were absolutely beautiful|our room was incredibly musty and it was difficult to be in the room for any length of time-I sprinkled essential oils all over the bathroom, sitting area, and bedroom. It was very small and really could only sleep there|the bathroom wasn't the cleanest either|I have to say though, that the dinner at the castle was very authentic and delicious

It was a beautiful place to be in, especially during the Christmas season. We were directed to the free parking area (Caixa Geral Depositos, behind the bank) only upon checking in. Why not post the location on the website? It would have saved guests the trouble of moving their cars.

From start to finish this was one of the best experiences we have had in Portugal. The entire staff are friendly, happy and extremely helpful. We ate dinner at the hotel and the food was outstanding! A 10 out of 10! Our room was like something out of a fairytale.

We went dinner at the restaurant and the food was great! Leandro was very polite and kind, giving all the care we needed!! The hotel is very cold, the castle wasn’t comfortable, it’s a real castle, so you can’t wait for comfortable rooms. The heat was just by air conditioning, didn’t really work for the cold it was. TV only with some channels, very bad. We forum a much better stay at Montebelo Mosteiro de Alcobaça Historic Hotel, much better and cheaper, close by.

Definitely not our favorite hotel on our trip to Portugal. Pluses: Wonderful staff that drives you to and from your car. Kudos to Jorge! Service with a smile. Clean room. Good breakfast. Minuses: The hotel is part of a 1300 castle built into the wall of the town. Therefore, many, many steps to get around the hotel. The restaurant dinner was very very poor. Service was good but food was subpar.

Very disappointing experience. We arrived at the castle/ pousada where we entered a messy office and were greeted by rude staff. We had to park outside the wall of the castle, so in order to get our luggage, a man took us ina vehicle and drove like an absolute maniac through the streets of the village. We were then escorted to our room. In order to access the room, you have to climb a flight of cobblestone steps. I couldn’t keep up with the man, and found this very stressful. The room was okay— bed was comfortable and bathroom was clean, but I needed to use the complimentary slippers because the floor was not clean. I think they use the gimmick of the castle to attract guests and otherwise make zero effort to make it an enjoyable experience. We really regretted staying here.
