This is in the old Portuguese part of the city in a converted colonial house. The decor is interesting and the room space large. We had a balcony overlooking the sea, which was a bonus. Breakfast on the top floor terrace had the same view and was very pleasant each day. Only does bed and breakfast, but lots of good restaurants and bars down the street.

I stayed at the pousada for ten days with a small group of friends. It's a small and simple place but very clean and well-kept. The bed was comfortable and the shower strong with plentiful hot water. Breakfast was always lovely and the views of the bay from the bedrooms and rooftop terrace were beautiful!

Stayed 3 nights here. Its a good location, near the historic centre. 10 mins walk. Supermarket nearby.|Room was very dark, not very clean either. Dust and hair everywhere. No hot water in the shower 2 mornings. Breakfast poor, cakes and coffee. Minimal amount of fruit, so if you miss it you miss out. Noisy at night, bar opposite got pretty loud one night. Would not return.

Not worth the 8.8 rating on Booking.com, really couldn’t wait to be a morning to leave.|Rooms dark, bathroom with layers of mould and broken toilet seat, every time someone flushed or used a shower in the room or in any of the rooms around, high pitched noise lasted for several minutes. Roof broken down from rain at 23.00 and water flooded the hall in front of the bedrooms, with shouting of staff until 1.30am like it would be a middle of the day. Instead of an apology in the morning, unhelpful and bored staff at average breakfast and literally no eye contact at checkout, texting on her phone.|Location was indeed great, but if you value clean, normal standards, do not fall for this pousada!

We stayed in this hotel for 3 nights. The hotel is located in the old town, only few minutes away from bars, restaurants and shops. Our room was quite big, but the furniture is old and part of it doesn´t work properly - for example the door of our wardrobe closed itself all the time although it shouldn´t work like that.||The staff is very friendly and helpful. The breakfast is ok, but the real highlight is the view over the bay you have while having breakfast.

Very few positive things about this hotel that don't outweigh the disadvantages: ||- bay view from our room and from breakfast rooftop. ||- ok breakfast (mainly cakes and bread and some fruits) ||- very close to Pelourinho. Easy to go out in the night: cafes and bars nearby||||- dark bathroom (some light bulbs not working) ||- dirty and filthy room (found HAIR and NAILS on the floor, spider webs on the walls)||- sheets had dirty marks, hair and sand all over them when we arrived. (asked to change) ||- I drank from a WATER BOTTLE filled with CLEANING FLUID. A cleaning lady FORGOT it in the bathroom and I confused it with the similar water bottle we had bought earlier that day. The hotel manager just told she is sorry, so no real apologies, no compensation was offered. ||- in general rather disorganised and poorly managed hotel. Unfriendly managers that after all we experienced during the first day there, didn`t even greet us during the next days neither asked if I`m ok.||||We tried to spend as less time in hotel as possible, cause the room was just disgusting! On fotos the rooms look much better than they really are.

Thank you Joanice for the hospitality in your beautiful pousada. You were very helpful in finding good places to eat and visit. The WiFi is only working at the reception, a good opportunity to see daily street life in Pelourinho and talk with people.

If you love rooms with Bay views and a hotel/pousada with a great location close to Salvador's Old Town district (Pelourinho) than Pousada do Pilar is perfect for you! Pousada do Pilar is located on a very popular cobblestone street (Rua Direita de Santo Antonio) known for its hip bars/restaurants with Bay views. In fact, when Anthony (Tony) Bourdain brought his hit CNN travel show Parts Unknown to Salvador in 2013 he filmed several segments on this street. I love staying here because it's only a short walk to Pelourinho which allows me to easily move about freely on my own terms!
