It could have been a really nice holiday, unfortunately we booked through hotels.com and although we had confirmation of our booking, the hotel was overbooked. Luckily due to cancellations we were only able to spend 3 nights instead of the 6 we booked. It would have been a massive issue if we werent lucky enough to land a cancellated room as the hotel is remote and we arrived in the evening. As it was peak season we eventually cut our holiday short as we could not find decent alternative accommodation on the island. I would highly recommend booking directly with the hotel as they don't seem to have a good relationship with the booking site and phone ahead to ensure the room is actually available. The rooms were clean and breakfast was good.

Beautiful location with great views of the jungle and the ocean, but the room had some problems, the hosts were never anywhere to be found, and the attention to detail was poor. We booked the family chalet for our large family and found one fewer beds than was shown online. So two of our young sons shared one of the beds in the loft. The bed was right next to a window, which we found wide open in the morning because it had no latch - our 5-year old could have easily fallen through it and landed on the concrete two stories down. There was also no latch on the front door - when I pointed this out, they said it was generally safe, but not having a way to lock our room was disconcerting.||The list goes on - there was nowhere to hang a towel in the bathroom and they didn't even have a TP dispenser, there was a bar to hang clothes but no hangers, soap but no shampoo. They said you could get drinks from the communal fridge and mark down what you got in the notebook - but guess what? No beer or wine (or adult beverage of any kind) and no notebook. Since there's no store or anything within walking distance, there's no way to get drinks.||The host family seemed to always be at the other place they ran down on the beach so if you needed anything or wanted to talk to someone about activity options etc, you were out of luck. When we did see them, they were very kind - including baking a birthday cake for our kiddo who had a birthday there! But it would have been nice if the breakfast had been on-site (as advertised but really at the other place on the beach) or if there had been a way to contact the owners. ||Despite all this we enjoyed our stay because the location is unbeatable and Ilha Grande is amazing!

I would give zero stars if possible. One night before our booking they informed us that they had to cancel because of some issue (later we find that they are renovating). Extremely hard to communicate. The numbers on the website didn’t work, and you would text one number and get a response from a different number… extremely complicated. Finally, they arranged our stay with a different Pousada at another beach, but lied about the kind of room we would get at the other place. We felt stranded on this island because of this irresponsible behavior from LAGAMAR.

This is sad to leave a such review but this place was our worst experience in Brazil. Firstly, the room didn't match the description, mentioning TV ect, the standard of this room was not even a 1 star hotel. The "garden room" was extremely humid, lacked insulation, no window next to the bathroom, and the main door couldn't close properly. We booked this place through Booking.com. However, due to the room's condition and falling sick with a severe cold that worsened during our stay, we had to leave the island to see a doctor after just one night out of our 3 nights. Despite explaining the emergency to the host and requesting a refund for the remaining nights, they do not respond to Booking.com that try several times to join them. This host is dishonest and lacks empathy. There was not even a record of the remain 50 % paiement done to the host, fortunatly we paid by card and could prove to booking.com that we paid fully. Although previous reviews praised the breakfast, it was the worst we've experienced during our stay, with low-quality products, including runny honey that was like liquid sugar. It's regrettable to have such an unpleasant experience at this place, especially considering the high cost. If you wish to have a peaceful and relaxing holiday, I recommend to avoid this place.

Beautiful place as if you’re right in the jungle which you are actually, the views are spectacular and Isabell is lovely with her daughter Sophia. They took great care of us. We can’t wait to come back again. The breakfast was also really great. Everything was fresh. They even baked fresh cakes, juices fruit and lots more.

I came to Ilha Grande to get away from the craziness of Rio and really pleased I did. Great location at Lagamar and really friendly hosts. Breakfast was lovely and more than enough food to sit and enjoy the great views for a few hours. Lodge was great. I mentioned to a friend that Lagamar was more Thailand than Thailand.||Just a couple of things to note that aren’t mentioned in Lonely Planet:||1. Whilst you can get to Lagamar and back from Arbaao it’s definitely not recommended. Angra seems to be the mainland destination.|2. The local beach, which is picture perfect, only had two restaurants that I could find and I couldn’t get the rhythm of when food was being served. On reflection maybe a bit more guidance / instructions on the area when checking in would have been beneficial. It’s only a small area and I would have assumed that everyone knows everyone.

One of absolute favourite places we visited in Brazil. So beautiful, on a truly isolated part of the island, 2 minutes from a beach and swimming lagoon. The only drawback would be fairly limited options in terms of places to eat near by, although we ate each evening at the hostel on vermelha and really enjoyed it (especially the fish with pineapple). Highly highly recommend everything about staying in this part of the island!

Isabel was such a lovely and sweet host. Always up for a chat and eager to help. Breakfast was nice. And the pousada is very beautifully located slightly up the hill so you’ll be surrounded by the jungle while peaking at the sea. However, keep in mind that dining and lunch options close to the pousada a very limited and quite pricey for the quality of food you can get. Prepare yourself that this get away will be about being in nature and not a culinary holiday.
