Pousada Literária de Paraty (Paraty, Rio de Janeiro State) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Settled by the Portuguese in the 17th century, Paraty is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which sits on a beautiful stretch of coastline and hosts a major literary festival each year. Pousada Literária de Paraty, housed in a gorgeously restored colonial mansion in the heart of the historic center, is the event’s official inn. The boutique hotel features a large library, naturally — start with anything by Jorge Amado — as well as a pretty swimming pool and a farm-to-table restaurant with breezy indoor and outdoor seating. Suites are modern and spacious, furnished with colorful textiles, 600-thread-count sheets, and customizable minibars. Some have fireplaces and living rooms, and all have books on display." - Tablet Hotels

Lovely quiet place in an excellent location in Paraty. The staff, in particular those working at breakfast and the pool/bar area are excellent, friendly and professional.|The room was extremely clean, though smelt damp, before we got used to it! We stayed in one of the ground floor rooms, however, it was quite noisy from guests above walking, on the floorboards, so a room on the upper floor may be better. There was a very professional information book on the hotel/company in the room, however, basic instructions e.g. setting up the keysafe, a drawstring bag for the pool/to take on trips or buy? room service? etc. were missing. Our room was quite dark as lighting is limited, however, it meant the room stayed cool. The pool area is lovely and the integral steps in the pool, make it easy to get in and out. There's also a great library room. Unfortunately, only a few books in English, which is completely understandable but an amazing room to relax and read your own books in. All in all, a perfect place to spend a few nights.

Such an amazing experience staying here. It is located central to the entire Historic Centre. They are extremely accommodating and welcoming—every single staff member we interacted with so kind and professional. The grounds are stunning—photos online do not do it justice. Breakfast was amazing every morning. We also enjoyed lunch and dinner at their restaraunt on numerous occasions. We would definitely return and would 100% recommend to a friend :) Thank you all again.

The staff were excellent, very friendly, professional and willing to go the extra mile. Our suite was spacious, clean, comfortable and cool, but maybe the lighting was quite dim. The rooms surround a large, beautiful garden full of plants, burds, butterflies and marmosets can be seen on the roof and in the trees. There is also a decent size pool, kept clean with lots of loungers for relaxing. Breakfast is served al fresco overlooking the garden and pool. You do need flat shoes and good ankles to negotiate the uneven cobbled streets of Paraty, which also flood at high Spring tides, but does not affect the hotel.

Lovely place to stay. Relaxed atmosphere with nice small pool. Coming in felt like going into an oasis of calm after the hustle and bustle of Paraty old town.|Good friendly service. Truly exceptional food from the adjacent restaurant.

We stayed at the Pousada for 6 days during Easter time as a family (2 adults with a very energetic 5 year old in tow).||My wife wanted me to see Paraty (as we are based in Rio and London) and she suggested the Pousada to explore the area.||Its definitely a great choice for the area as the Pousada is very central, and it also has an excellent restaurant inside (Quintal das Letras). ||My family enjoyed the trip as we were able to enjoy the pool area, explore the town, as well as organise a boat trip to explore the Islands (highly recommended). It was very easy to relax at the end of the day at the Pousada as they have a great bar as well by the pool, and also provide some babysitting services if you want some coverage while you go to a fine fining restaurant in town for some adult time with the spouse.

Location is fantastic, breakfast delicious, a great spread every morning, buffet style and a la carte. Also have a small but lovely pool, and spa with a great list of services, very attentive and helpful staff. A little oasis in a bustling historic city full of tourists. I just suggest they open the rooms when not being occupied, my suite had a musty smell of a place that never airs. I would not skip lunch and visit to their Fazenda Bananal - it's a reserve farm 10 mins away, scenic and lovely.

What a beautiful hotel/resort. Great location and impeccable service. Daniella at the front desk made our trip to Paraty. She recommended 2 of the most amazing beaches that we’ve ever seen. She took her time to understand what we were looking for and nailed it. She set us up with a driver that was so friendly and that we felt safe with the entire time. He went the extra mile and ensured that we were safe and knew where to go. He commanded respect wherever he went. Lastly, Gabriel at the pool bar/restaurant was truly amazing. He was a pleasure to deal with and was REALLY funny. Had some great monkey stories. All in all, a great visit to a beautiful city that was 100% made by the amazing service provided by the staff at this exquisite hotel.

We absolutely loved this Pousada. The grounds are beautiful with lots of greenery. The pool is a great size considering that most of the hotels in the area have very small pools or none at all. There were plenty of lounge chairs and umbrellas. I enjoyed all the books especially the coffee table books in the reception area which was a nice area to relax during the rain of the day. The breakfast was delicious, fresh fruits, fresh juices , and you could order eggs and the pao de queso waffle which was so yummy, I had it everyday. Our room was on the second floor, lots of natural light coming in and very spacious, it was a master suite , with a bathtub and shower and a sitting area where the sofa turned into a bed if you needed it. The bed and AC were very comfortable. Everyday they would leave us different dessert treats in the room, felt very special. I enjoyed the spa treatment I got which was the one that included the facial, a therapy bath, a massage and body scrub. It was great! And my husband got the facial which he enjoyed and it made him glow. Our very last day, we got visited by some monkeys while eating breakfast, we were all so happy. It was magical. We stayed a total of three nights and enjoyed every second. The location is perfect too. Another bonus I left a bag of laundry for them to wash and when we got back from an excursion they had it all done and folded in our room for us. They also helped us hire a private boat and jeep excursions. We loved our time here and hope to come back some day.
